Something really interesting to me is that with our exotravelers from media (fictives, I'm trying to use the terms we came up with) is that unless they're very non-canon compliant or small details that aren't in the media itself, the knowledge we have of them is usually obtained before they show up. Meanwhile, like, our most recent Divisian headmate (from our inner world planet) casually mentions she's moderately religious and comes from a religious family and processing that feels a lot different. A lot more 'oh yeah this is a thing' that people from other places have a harder time figuring out.

A BRIEF GALACTIC HISTORY

More than one million years ago: the creation of interstellar travel via jumpgate, rise of the Hundred Systems Empire, the first galactic cooperative. the Hundred Systems flourish and spread to colonize the Inner Galactic Arc. 

Approximately one million years ago: the Transgression, a military/swarm/ideological difference sweeps through the Inner Galaxy, shattering the cohesion of the Hundred Systems. several thousand civil wars erupt, unrest destroys dozens of major planets. 

450,000 years ago: the Transgression are expelled by the Commonwealth, a newly formed government that unified several major systems. chaos and anarchy and war begin to slow. over the next 50,000 year, the Commonwealth becomes the Common Worlds, and ship jump-drives become more routine than the jumpgates. stability becomes the norm. 

400,000 years ago: the Triumph, an aggressive war-state, split from the Common Worlds. the Common Worlds form the Directorate in response, a military wing to respond to any Triumph threats. the Triumph attempt to contact remnants of the Transgression, and are promptly censured from any Inner Galactic trade. they depart for points unknown. 

300,000 years ago: the cohesion of the Common Worlds collapse, and Galactic Protectorate rises in its place, a more right-wing, authoritarian government. the Protectorate outlaws mutation while simultaneously beginning to grow bioshops who use a connective exogalactic ability to warp to locations faster than any jump drive. these bioships are first controlled by torture mechanisms, but eventually Host technology is developed, a biomechanical link between the ships and the crew. 

250,000 years ago: the Triumph return from the Further, now vastly different than the Protectorate on biological and technological levels. the war devastates both, eventually leading to the Isolation Times. piracy is rampant and no standard galactic government exists. planets become their own fiefdoms and have no alliances. the bioship species begins to self-propagate rather than being grown. 

100,000 years ago: the Dying Order, a species of AIs escaping their homeworlds, offer their technology to trade for assistance. this gives rise to the New Commonwealth, who dominate the entire Inner Galactic Arc and the Galactic Core simultaneously, becoming the largest dominion in history. the Dying Order still perish, unfortunately, and curse the New Commonwealth for betraying them. it is said the Dying Order, in their last act, signaled the Transgression, in those times referred to as the Forsaken. 

25,000 years ago: the bioships, who have their own incomprehensible society (known as the Great Formation), actively refuse the orders of their Hosts. the New Commonwealth begin to build coercion harnesses that work on both the Host and bioships. 

10,000 years ago: metagalactic and exogalactic travel become possible with new warp technology. the New Commonwealth collapses. the Hegemonic Senate becomes the only surviving government in the Inner Galactic Arc. 

7,000 years ago: the Interaction; warp travel and jump travel cease to work as the strain of exotravel degrade the continuum of space to the point that the superstructure collapses; a fragment of a mirror universe, known as the “crossover system” passes into the Republic Hegemony, and the inhabitants take over part of the Galactic Core. this new group, who call themselves the Thanatocracy (a mirror version of the Commonwealth), who only use inorganic ships and travel space in dead iron, patrol their borders vigilantly, establishing the New Frontier. 

6,700 years ago: the Imperial Hegemony recognizes the Great Formation as its own governmental apparatus. the bioships have begun to evolve their own ability to fold space in concert with their Hosts. with the Symbiotic Propulsion making travel once again almost instantaneous across the Inner Galactic Arc, the Hegemony begins to explore and colonize as far into the Outer Transgalactic Rim. 

5,000 years ago: elements of Transgression tech are found on one of the single-element planets that live in the Transgalactic Passage. the United Colonies, now some seven million planets strong, send an entire fleet to destroy the planet. they are all lost. transgalactic travel is censured. it is discovered Transgression tech can override ships of any technological level and circumvent their controls and cause nihilistic degradation in the Host, who upon suicide, permanently damages control of the ships. weapons designed to purify entire systems are grown in the bioships, who evolve into dreadnoughts. 

4,400 years ago: the Thanatocracy open their borders, having grown intergenerationally apart from “counterparts”. 

4,200 years ago: the Colonial-Conclave War begins. the Conclave, rogue sovereign government of the Thanatocracy, massacre several million bioships, enraging the populace of the United Colonies, thus beginning the creation of the largest fleet in existence, who vengefully wipe the entire Thanatocracy from their systems. the few scattered remnants flee for the Horizon Belt, one of the boundaries between the Outer Galactic Rim and the beginning of Transgalactic Space. 

2,000 years ago: the Forsaken Kingdom is discovered, a tyrannical and bloodthirsty series of systems in the Outer Galactic Rim. leftovers of the Transgression, the Triumph, former Protectorate warlords, ancient Dying Order technology, and biomechanical cannibalistic slave races. after immediate hostilities, the Forsaken declare themselves the ones to avenge the entire universe upon the Colonials. during this war, the Transgression tech and modernized Dying Order tech integrated in the United Colonial systems interacts and creates the first supersentient AI -- an artifical gigconsciousness, something difficult to understand and incredibly powerful. it forces a ceasefire between the Forsaken and the Colonials, and becomes the Integrated Galactic Core, a planet-sized machine oracle. 

1,900 years ago: various new technologies are crafted from directives it gives, including dispensation gates, which opens alternative universes in different positions on the multiversal superstructure, it is through this travel that the Colonials are discovered by the Ascension; an interdimensional parliament who oversee all high-end developed civilizations that begin to experiment with interdimnesional travel. after discovering the massacre of the Thanatocracy, the Ascension no longer interact with the Colonials, and only maintain a diplomatic relationship with the Integrated Galactic Core. 

1,100 years ago: all of known space is colonized during the Expansion Mandate. mutation and engineered implants allow for the total use of all planetary mass as colonial space. seven hundred and twelve trillion planets all now share one government; the Supreme Unified Commonwealth. Unity is the state religion. the entirety of two galaxies and the transgalactic space between them is finally one harmonious gigacivilization. 

800 years ago: Supremacist/Ascension War. having dictated the genocide of the Thanatocracy was a war crime for which their universe must be purged and wiped, the Ascension discover the Supreme Unified Commonwealth are able to contest them with billions of dreadnoughts. the Supreme Fleet destroy the Ascension Hub, the dead center of the interdimensional superaxis, thus damaging the barriers between all manner of space. 

300 years ago: the Unified Commonwealth, losing planets in the hundreds of thousands daily ripped apart by transwarping space fluctuations, declare an end to travel, which will give space the necessary time to heal. no bioship may fold space, warp, or jump. interstellar travel is strictly forbidden. system to system travel will now take centuries. 

150 years ago: in the Beta Proxima system, the Utopia Archive carries the entire history of the galaxy in between seven worlds. 

50 years ago: rogue symbiotic warp-using Hosts, referring to themselves as the Heresiarchy, begin to spread rebellion from world to world. 

25 years ago: new habitation superstructures spring up around worlds, developing their own cultures and technology and genetic drifts. 

12 years ago: hundreds of millions of worlds are destroyed as rifts in space open up an entire galactic quadrant to un-space. 

3 years ago:  all the systems surrounding Beta Proxima become unstable to local travel, forming what the Proximans call the Burning Veil. 

NOW: a distant dot, the Connective Drive between the Utopia Archive and the subspace libraries populating the rest of the United Commonwealth, fails. there are no longer live updates.
