The Sweet Payoff of Love
Wednesday night, at our church’s family dinner (a weekly blessing), we sat across from the cutest couple who married in December. He is 90 years old; she is 86. They are just recently out and about because three days before they married, she fell, broke her nose and required stitches from her nose to her lip. He fell a couple of days later. They are both going regularly for physical…

“Everybody has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth.”
There is something so depressing about talking to coworkers who have been at a place years longer than me and hate their job but make no move to leave like I’ve never complained about a position more than a month before I’m actively creating an exit plan

Nawt people treating Sukugo like a problematic age gap romance….????
Gojo is literally 28/29, a GROWN man. He lived through the 90s and was born in the late 80s. The story canonically takes place in 2018. He’s an adult adult.
Is Sukuna chronologically 1000+ years old? Yes.
But guess what… he wasn’t sentient for 1000 years. Kenjaku was, Sukuna wasn’t in his state as cursed objects. He was literally asleep for a millennia. He only truly woke up and was resurrected when Yuji ate his fingers. Mentally (and physically) he’s still whatever age he had in the Heian era.
With the same logic sleeping beauty is a problematic age gap romance because she’s a couple of decades older than the prince (I mean it is a problematic fairy tale depending on the version but NOT because of the age difference, they’re about the same age in most depictions).
We don’t know Sukuna‘s real age, it’s up for interpretation. He’s an adult, yes, with the way he’s depicted in the Heian era, I‘d say he’s around 30-40 max.
Plus, when he goes back to his Heian era form, he’s literally looking exactly like how he looked like a thousand years ago. He’s not an old man or anything.
He’s simply an adult. Just like Gojo.

anyway. this is your notice that I will be liberally blocking blogs pushing antivoting/both parties are the same/etc bullshit. I am fully Not Here For It, as someone living in a deeply red state. I have had actual human people, to my face, at my fucking retail job, advocate for civil war and treason and military overthrow of the federal government. I cannot EXPRESS to you how little fucking patience I have for leftist infighting at this point!!!

at least watch the clip before commenting about it
https://x.com/DNI_lowkey/status/1901922848681161008
youre right that i shouldve watched the clip before talking about it, but im afraid this still changes very little on how i feel about what they said.
you know if tub.bo had gone into the stream with this attitude instead maybe things wouldve been different. also changing your mind means nothing to me if it's not admitted privately to the party affected, and frankly also publicly in this situation considering how much of the harm was done publicly
disclaimer none of this is directly quoted
sad that there was no middle ground to be had between him and dream/sad he realized they wouldnt be able to reach and agreement and become friends again -> i added this later in the tags of my original post, but there could never have been a middle ground to reach with dream when he refuses to give dream even the tiniest benefit of the doubt. the entire time he reacted to dreams stream, he assumed nothing but the worst despite repeating over and over that he would be fair, multiple example i cant be assed to bring up, but him assuming dream didnt defend punz automatically and then being told no, he did defend him. or reading into why dream removed the mention of caiti when all it was was that dream interpreted the end of the sentence differently. dreams concedes multiple times to tub.bo but not once does he extend that same attitude to dream. hell he got mad at dream for using his own clip of saying his friends shouldnt be making grooming jokes
the stream humanized dream and it would make their audiences put down the pitchforks - i find this extremely ironic given that what came out of tub.bos streams instead was mass dehumanization again to the point where someone said he could queerbait because he "operates as a business". also no, having dream on stream does not humanize him to your audience if you again, only are on the offensive and take issue with every single thing he says. also basically having this attitude of "well I tried my best to humanize him to my audience" but sitting back and watching them spread misinformation and "dream is an evil manipulator" and saying nothing means nothing to me.
neither side was mature/this couldve been ignored - braindead fucking take. "ah yes, lets ignnore the situation We Provoked by repeatedly calling dream a groomer, trump supporter, etc'" harassing someone until they snap and then turning around to go "oh neither of us were mature, we shouldve been the bigger person and ignored it 😔" is idiotic and shows zero self-awareness. i cannot tell if they are that dumb or if its intentional at this point.
jack saying there was never a middle ground and he was proven right that they could never be friends/didnt work as friends and he was glad he didnt prematurely cut ties with someone he couldve made amends with + he distanced himself a while ago - also stupid when he is one of the worst offenders of bringing dream up "days since jack mentioned dream" anyone? sure you could distance yourself and sometimes you just dont get along with people but then the reason he doesnt like dream that he cites is that he made a joke to George about being the reason for his success and repeatedly made poor taste jokes about dream and punches down on him Constantly. sorry but this does not scream "being mature about distancing yourself and simply having different personalities that clash"
comments its weird how much people care and that they dont care - motherfucker you actively fueled it with your repeated "jokes". the "red flags" they harped on about in their Other podcast episode. also if you dont care why do you keep fucking bringing him up. even before this whole situation
tubbo realizing he exaggerated his own emotions about the situation because of the stream and afterwards realized they were all stupid - again. this would mean more to me were this not a paywalled podcast and if he acknowledged it Publicly. also idk, making another comment about how unlabelled people cant be queer weeks(?) after the stream does not scream "i realized i overreacted and was immature about this situation"
jack doesnt want to stop making "little jokes" because theyr funny and tub.bo says and as long as its not malicious - does not scream "distancing myself from dream and wanting to move on" also how many fucking times do we have to say that calling someone a groomer (especially when people already actively believe this) and a trump supporter is not "a little joke". at this point it doesnt matter if jack is not being malicious, his audience will take it as such and continue their hostility.
yeah sorry but with their recent behavior both before and after the stream, this means absolutely nothing to me. this still screams that they dont understand the harm theyre causing and frankly dont Want to understand, they want to keep using dream as their punching bag. if they truly want to be mature about it then fucking act like it. they have flipped between sides too often for me to think this is anything meaningful, i mean hell tub.bo couldnt even decide on if dreams a trump supporter or not in those streams(and yeah if it was a joke that "haha oh idk actually he might be a trump supporter" it was not funny and made things worse bc his audience is braindead and will take it as gospel". like im tired of them pouring gasoline on a situation or hell even Starting The Damn Fire and then turning around and acting like they didnt.
also i find it hysterical jack said tub.bo seemed miserable at the end of the stream and was wondering why he would do that to himself, when he does not stop tommy from doing the same thing and at some points even encouraged/fed into said behavior making him miserable.
also the entire queerbaiting conversation and comment made after is utterly unacceptable to me and its not something im going to forgive with no apology or understanding regardless of what they think of dream
i might come back to this to add/change things, im at work and this may be incoherent rambling*

Thinking about the recent MisMag episodes and the way that people talk about K online.
And thinking about the critiques people had of season one about the fandom’s obsession with Evan, and their tendency to only examine other characters in how they related to him. And how people are talking about Sam now she has more canon interactions with Evan and spotlighting her as a love interest or friend.
Wonder what it could be.

myrna calling robby fruitcake and cocksucker and it being an established thing yet abbot somehow doesn’t know about it has me thinking thoughts
what if myrna is/was a sex worker? and robby did sex work to get himself through med school? what if they knew each other and maybe kept an eye on each other?
while it's a part of his past robby isn't particularly proud of, myrna isn't ashamed of it; maybe never retired. she’s very confident in her promiscuity and while robby doesn't like being called fruitcake it doesn't pull a huge reaction out of him like it would for most straight men
even when she called him cocksucker his reaction was just "fruitcake has a certain whimsical quality"; he never tries to deny it, he just doesn’t like it
it puts robby being willing to do a technically illegal abortion on a minor in a new light. maybe he looks after the other workers when he can; anonymously getting them in for std treatments and abortions and vasectomies, looking out for them when he knows they'd be discriminated against or even arrested if they came in at the wrong time
that he would be discriminated and arrested for just trying to keep himself above water
and it wasn’t not all bad, sometimes it wasn't even all work; your brain doesn't know it's a stranger you're cuddled up to after being awake for 30 hours studying for an important final, surviving on coffee and whatever power bars you can grab if you thought that far ahead. it just knows there's a warm, soft body in your arms that wants to be there and wants you to be there and sometimes robby needed those arms around him even more than he'd ever care to admit
and it wasn't all that strange for those arms to be myrna's
myrna was the one who taught him what to wear and how to wear it, how to suppress his gag reflex and get cum out of his clothes, which streets to avoid and which were fair game
and it's myrna he fast tracks in the er when she comes in with a busted face and a long story about a short fall
they stuck together even when robby hung up his boots for the last time and he never stopped looking out for the people who took him in when he needed comfort most

Do you ever think about how precisely Jing Yuan excises his grief to not to succumb to mara because whenever I do I feel like puking my guts out.
This video was in my bili recs this morning and I had to stop myself from tearing up on the train 5s into it. You have to give it to mihoyo that the microexpressions are done amazingly well in the moments it matters. The way he gives himself a moment to take in the two of them after they fought side by side (even if it was to beat up his disciple lol). He regards them with such warmth and affection before Blade cruelly cuts off his attempt at establishing a connection and ughhhh you just see how he compartmentalizes and slips back into his role as the General.
His subsequent conversation with Dan Heng is also so emotionally fraught, I don't even know how he doesn’t just implode.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His "So what?" really gets to me. I thought he'd sound quite like he's repressing his anger but I rewatched the scene and he says it with barely any heat😫 He is well aware that this isn't his old friend anymore, Dan Heng couldn't have been making it clearer. If anything, he sounds resignated and self-mocking.
Also this scene is so evillll because the first time you (I) played this scene, you're totally seeing it from Dan Heng's POV. He's justified in being annoyed with how everyone sees him as someone he isn't, and Jing Yuan seems especially stubborn about not letting it go. I for one just kept thinking "Dude Jing Yuan, leave the poor lad alone."
The thing though is that Dan Heng actually is wrong here — he is very much still Dan Feng by the definition of Vidyadhara reincarnation. The game keeps saying that it wasn't properly carried out and that it failed, but it doesn't tell you in what exact way in the main story. You have to dig a bit for info.
‘The Vidyadhara rebirth normally erases all memory of the previous life. However, you have retained fragments of your past, as well as the powers of the high elder.
‘...If my guess is correct, the Preceptors were unwilling to allow the Ichor Line to end and hoped for Imbibitor Lunae’s resurrection. That is why they tampered with the molting rebirth… and turned you into what you are now…’
Source: Jingliu’s Companion Mission dialogue
‘Most things people are unwilling to part ways with are connected to experiences from their life. It’s really all just small sentimental trinkets: Engraved love pendants, letters from old friends, or even works they’ve personally created…’
‘*Sigh* But what was once of utmost importance becomes of zero relevance when this ancient sea cleanses away all memory and hatches new life. Without exception, no Vidyadhara has ever returned post-resurrection to ask for any of these relics back.
‘After rebirth, ‘you’ are not the same ‘you’ as before. Who cares about how your previous life was lived, or what suggestions might get passed on? You’re better off bequeathing a valuable pendant or whatever for the future benefit of your fellows!’
> ‘So after hatching rebirth you’re a new ‘you’?’
‘From what I’ve seen, most Vidyadhara lack emotions fresh after their rebirth, and are unable to understand the sentiments of their previous selves. Not a single one has ever been able to identify which one of these items used to belong to them.’”
Source: Lingling, a Vidyadhara NPC
It is commonly thought that the source of Vidyadharas' immortality is different from that of Xianzhou natives and Foxians. The Vidyadhara race did not gain immortality from the Plagues Author. Instead, as the descendants of Long the dragon, the majesty of the Permanence flows in their blood.
Due to this unique characteristic, Vidyadharas also exhibit a life cycle different from other long-life species. Their life, consisting of reverting from maturity to an infantile stage in an unending cycle, relies upon continuous cellular transdifferentiation. This is the reason why Vidyadharas do not face the ailments of immortality that many other long-life species have to contend with.
Source: Dan Shu, Disciples of Sanctus Medicus: Collection of Exhibits
“‘I took a few samples from inside a Vidyadhara egg. Nobody was harmed in the slightest. [...]
Todd raised his once dry and skinny hand to show that his wrinkles had disappeared, revealing fair, smooth skin instead.”
“‘Hehe, I just was a little sloppy with my experiment. An inevitable result.
‘I thought I'd gained immortality, but unfortunately things were not that simple.
‘My body, it keeps shrinking. My skin, muscles, organs... Indeed, I'm getting younger, you see, but this "youth" doesn't seem to have an off switch.’
> ‘You're de-aging?’
> ‘Kind of like the Vidyadhara tradition of hatching rebirth…’
‘Yes. But so far as I know, their "rebirths" have a limit.
‘Test results indicate that this de-aging process seems to have no endpoint. It won't be long before I'm illiterate and won't be able to understand my own reports — which would seem no difference [sic] from regular dementia.
‘In the end, I might even become an egg again, just like the Vidyadhara. Perhaps I could become a human embryo once again — I mean, I'm not Vidyadhara, am I?’”
Source: Todd Riordan’s Academic Research Adventure Mission dialogue
While what exactly happens during the incubation process after the Vidyadhara turn into eggs before their rebirth is a mystery, the chief condition of a rebirth being considered one is the *complete* loss of your memories. After rebirth, the Vidyadhara can be of a different gender and usually display no similar inclinations as their previous incarnations. What we also know is the way they turn into eggs is via de-ageing.
So you have to understand Dan Feng's reincarnation was incomplete in the way that he literally just de-aged a bit. Philosophical debate aside about what makes you you and if you're still yourself when you've lost memories that made you you—Dan Heng biologically is de-aged Dan Feng. How Dan Heng thinks of himself is course his prerogative and it's totally fair that he sees himself as a whole new person and believes that Dan Feng has nothing to do with him. But he still has his powers. He still has some of his memories; probably more than he lets on actually if you read some of playable!Dan Heng's character stories in-game. So it’s not hard to understand why other people would still see him as Dan Feng even if he doesn’t think he is.
Anyways, point is that Jing Yuan actually doesn't cling that much to the past as first impression makes it seem, either. I was gonna say that he calls him Dan Feng in...two? instances which come across as very annoying to the player, but I’m Ctrl+F ing this chapter and he never does directly address Dan Heng as Dan Feng to his face. Actually, Jing Yuan comes to terms with it shockingly swiftly. "Old friend." "I'm not him." "Mhm… sorry" <- HE HAS ACCEPTED IT THEN AND THERE. Those are their first words exchanged after reuniting, what the heck... It was both a half-hearted and a last ditch attempt to find his old friend in Dan Heng, and it’s not as if he never had any high hopes but they immediately get shattered, nonetheless.
Jing Yuan doesn't see and need Dan Feng in Dan Heng, the one that does is the Luofu General—he says as much. And after Dan FHeng fulfills what was his duty all along (sealing the fancy tree with his dragon powers or whatever, I don't quite remember) and something he sorely owed to Jing Yuan and the Luofu, Jing Yuan lets him go. *points at "Haha, let us talk of happier topics. The friends you made on the Express are about to arrive here. Don’t you wish to see them?"* Like do you see this!!!!!! He immediately engages with Dan Heng as Dan Heng of the Astral Express, and asks him about his new friends QAQ
He really has perfected the art of letting go. So yeah. On Jing Yuan and the excising of grief 👍

My Roman Empire. I think about these kids all the time. I think about whether or not they survived the destruction of hometree. I think about how much love and respect they clearly had for Grace. Calling her Sa’nok. I think about how excited they were to learn English and about humans, reading the Lorax, counting in English etc. I think about the deep shame and guilt Grace carried after the incident at the school and having to shut it down as a result of that. I think about despite the fact that they were hurt by her actions, they immediately jumped to action when her neural link was broken after their home was destroyed by humans. So many thoughts and emotions…. I truly believe Grace loved those kids as her own.

Okay media consumers, I'm gonna ask you to follow some lines of logic with me.
For good stories to exist, there needs to be conflict.
For conflict to happen, one or more characters will almost always need to make bad choices.
Just because a character makes one or a few bad choices does not automatically earn them the label of "toxic".
Just because said character does not experience immediate consequences due to their bad choices does not mean that they never will (especially if their story is not yet finished), nor does it mean that their creator is romanticizing or portraying their bad choices in a good light.
I mean, come on. You guys love a good slow burn romance. The least you can do is get used to the idea of slow burn conflict.
Edit:
DO NOT INTERPRET THIS POST AS ME SAYING THAT YOU SHOULDN'T DISAGREE WITH ANY CHARACTER'S ACTIONS EVER. DO NOT DO THAT.
I can tell some of you are already thinking about doing that.
Don't.
Please.
I don't have the energy for that.
