The eye patch
There's a couple of things that people tend to notice right away when Baby walks into the room, and chief among them, other than his sheer size, is his eye. Or rather, the lack thereof.
Baby wears an eye patch over his left eye, and for good reason -- nothing lies beneath it but a small mass of gnarled scar tissue. Sadly, this wasn't the result of an accident, or even just from chance at birth. It is a driving force of why Baby Hawke is anti-Templar, anti-Circle, and rather anti-Chantry.
It happened in a small village in the bannorn, the village that the Hawke family lived in before moving to Lothering. There weren't many children in the village, and so Baby, Bethany, and Carver often had only each other to play games with. It was during one of these games that a Templar from the village Chantry happened upon them, and spied Bethany and Baby using magic, when they thought they were alone.
The templar decided to try and take them, of course, to drag them off to the Circle, 'where they belonged'. Baby, however, was having none of it. While he did not yet possess the bulk that he enjoys as an adult, he was rather tall for a 13 year old boy, and so he fought back.
In the ensuing struggle, the templar pulled out his boot knife, and he used it, severely wounding Baby... though not without Baby using that against him, using lightning magic to electrocute the templar as he held the blade in Baby's skull.
Though seriously injured, and bleeding heavily, Baby managed to struggle to his feet and hurry Bethany home, leaving the dead templar where he fell. At home, his father Malcolm was able to heal the wound, but the eye was obliterated. There was nothing there to save.
They left the village that very evening, under the cover of darkness, forced to flee in case anyone managed to figure out what had happened. Eventually, this journey led the Hawke family to Lothering, where they lived until the Blight.

“Don’t touch me. You shouldn’t touch me.”(Daniel c:)
We Know The Devil
"And you shouldn't be in a place WHERE YOU DON'T BELONG." Danny retorts easily, his smile now displaying the edge that was normally hidden away during their sessions. He always knew this girl would be difficult but this? This was different.
Tumblr media
"It really is a shame, you know? If you'd only listened to me everything would be fine but now LOOK AT YOU." He gestures with an open palm at the girl's pale face with the tips of his fingers elevating slightly to indicate her skittering, watery eyes. She'd ruined them. She'd ruined those quiet little peepers of hers....! "But maybe, just maybe, we can get things between us back on track, what do you say Miss Alice...?" He could divest her of the fear that was currently ruining her features---he could return that peace to her---in a nice, quiet place. And once that was done; once she was back to a state that he could actually look at and appreciate....
Tumblr media
"Let's try this again, okay? We won't even have to LEAVE THIS ROOM to do it either."

~"Did you lose your other eye during a hunt, Urosh?"
Tumblr media
The question---as curious as a mingu, this one!---makes the old man cock his head to the side. Had it been lost? Had it been stolen? Perhaps it'd been bequeathed---for there were many deals that one could make. Hmmm....
Tumblr media
"Mmmh...I wonder." His head is still tilting to the side, the sudden jarring angle causing Urosh's hair to slide towards and then eventually conceal what remained of his 'normal eyes' until he's PEERING AT HER FROM BEHIND A FORESTED CURTAIN. Curious. Curious. Curious indeed. "The eyes I have work just fine, although the one atop my head LOOKS WHERE IT WANTS TO most nights." That avian eye---that goblin eye---did like to zip around, after all. Perhaps it was chasing after the constellations. "Be careful if someone DEMANDS AN EYE FROM YOU, immortal one. Such deals are usually bad." He could think of a few if he thought hard enough.
Tumblr media
"Not that an old man like myself needs to tell you such things, hm? I'm sure you know all about such things."

more cally o'pia stuff because it's my blog and i can do whatever i want forever. below the cut is a very rough broad written timeline of How Things Shake Out In Da AU. i hope you enjoy, very dry timeline notes
>20 years ago…
The Psychic 7 (namely Ford, Bob and Cassie) raid a hospital that is performing lobotomies on psychics. In the resulting scuffle, Cassie impulsively rescues-slash-kidnaps one of the patients, a 10-12 year old boy, Caligosto Loboto.
Ford and Otto eventually reach an arrangement with Cal’s birth parents, convincing them not to press charges and to release Cal into their custody. They’re secretly quite happy to be rid of their troublemaking psychic child and to not have to face the consequences of the botched lobotomy attempt.
Cal is raised collectively by the Psychic 7 (minus Lucrecia, who’s already left for Grulovia by the time he arrives), becoming a powerful psychic, voracious reader and writer, an amateur tinkerer, and very much a next-gen hippie weirdo. He’s particularly bonded with Cassie, who stepped into a maternal and teacher role for him early on, so she takes the role of his legal guardian on paper and he assumes her surname, becoming Caligosto “Cally” O’Pia.
The Psychic 6 have their fateful battle with Maligula. Cal, by this point a teenager, remains behind to watch the Gulch and keep an eye on the then-ongoing construction of the modern Motherlobe. He ends up finding Ford, mind shattered, wandering through the woods one night. Cal is unaware of what happened to him but keeps watch over him until the rest of the Psychic 6 - minus Helmut, of course - return from Grulovia.
Helmut’s funeral is held. Cal is particularly affected, especially seeing Bob’s subsequent mourning and breakdown - Cal looked up to the two as a model relationship and they helped him realize his bisexuality, so the incident gives Cal significant hang-ups around emotional intimacy and relationships.
Cal becomes part of the first class of Psychonauts agent trainees after the Motherlobe’s opening, alongside Truman (who he sees as a sort of cousin-slash-honorary family member).
Between then and Psychonauts 1…
Cal graduates and becomes an official agent, though by this point he’s already started becoming disillusioned with the Psychonauts mission, due to the continued breakdown of his family in the Psychic 6. He deliberately puts on an ineffective, slacker persona to avoid being put on missions, despite being a powerful and capable psychic. By the time Cassie leaves the Motherlobe, his role is primarily head janitor and semi-official steward of the Gulch. He also writes for True Psychic Tales under a pseudonym.
As his disillusionment grows and he becomes less trusting of the other Psychonauts for help and answers, he adopts the Loboto persona to go undercover unofficially. He’s especially looking for more information on Grulovia and Maligula, since he suspects he hasn’t gotten the full story from his family or the official press.
Cal befriends Oleander after the latter becomes an agent, eventually progressing to a tumultuous on-off relationship, which becomes something of an open secret around the Motherlobe. Each of their unaddressed issues, combined with assuming the worst based on the other’s unaddressed issues, makes each successive breakup worse and sabotages their secretly-mutual hopes for a serious lasting relationship. The big breaking point occurs when Oleander is badly injured on a mission (losing his eye and gaining his facial scar), making Cal panic over the idea of losing him like Bob lost Helmut; he encourages Truman to reassign him to Whispering Rock, which Oleander finds out about and takes as a tacit rejection-slash-lack of belief in him due to his own issues.
Shortly before meeting Oleander, Cal also has an extended affair with a married woman that he breaks off when she objects to him also seeing other people on the side. He remains unaware that he fathered a child through this affair.
Just before Psychonauts 1…
Oleander’s father dies, which causes him to finally snap and start up the Brain Tanks Plot. Having learned about Cal’s moonlighting while they were dating, he blackmails “Loboto” into helping. Cal agrees so he can secretly sabotage the project from the inside and attempt to keep Oleander safe.
Around the same time, Cal also gets a lead about the Delugianaries and infiltrates them as "Loboto". He begins to learn more about Maligula’s history with the royal family and the movement to reinstate the lost prince.
Psychonauts 1…
"Loboto" interferes as best he can with the Brain Tanks Plot without revealing his true identity to the other inmates, nor making it obvious to Oleander what he’s doing. He leaves massive openings on the psychic radio communications in hopes someone at Whispering Rock will catch them, stations Sheegor and Crispin to intentionally create weak points for an intruder, leaves the kidnapped brains out in the open to be recovered, and intentionally stalls debraining Lilli (to whom he’s an honorary uncle as Cal).
When Raz finally gets to the tower, Cal secretly trails him to make sure Raz can get to the top safely and unopposed. Once he does, Cal bails to return to the Rhombus of Ruin and continue his undercover work. Unfortunately, his boss there has figured out his true identity as Cally O’Pia, and blackmails him into kidnapping Truman by threatening his family (namely Cassie, Oleander and Lilli).
Rhombus of Ruin…
“Loboto” kidnaps Truman, and much like with the brain tanks, does everything he can to sabotage the plot without getting caught. This mostly entails poorly packaging Gristol’s brainless body, failing to dispose of the brain case, and capturing the Psychonauts after they crash rather than leave them to drown. Recognizing Raz and realizing he can excuse not “knowing” to put him under high-security restrictions the same as the other agents, he deliberately leaves Raz the means to navigate the facility via clairvoyance.
Raz learns of “Loboto’s” true identity from Oleander after rescuing him, and ends up using Oleander’s PSI-Portal to enter Cal’s mind. There, he sees the projected "Loboto" persona and meets Cal himself, who plots with him how to fake capturing “Loboto” and escaping in order to rescue Truman without giving away his betrayal. He will not give Raz information on his employers, however, still fearing for the others’ safety.
The Rhombus’ self-destruct auto-engages when “Truman” is released, to Cal’s horror. However, Raz and the agents are able to escape with their “captive”, though he still refuses to talk about his employers.
Psychonauts 2…
Sasha attempts to use a psychic construct to get the information out of Cal. It goes very, very poorly. However, Raz does manage to learn more about Cal’s backstory and get a glimpse of his boss and Maligula.
Sasha continues to attempt to interrogate Cal through the first part of the story, to no avail. After the Lady Lucktopus heist, Sasha’s forced to release him, and he returns to monitoring the Forgetful Forest. He drives away the psychic bees when Raz disturbs them, and Raz can talk to him about the undercover work as “Loboto”, his upbringing with the Psychic 6, and his apparent complicated relationship with Oleander. (There’s an optional sidequest where Raz can go back and forth between Cal and Oleander uncovering and pointing out their misinterpretations of each other, eventually convincing them to talk things out post-game.)
Post-reconstructing Ford, Cal discovers the three in the Gulch and is looped in by Raz. Cal still can’t help directly out of fear of his family being targeted, but gives Raz some tips for trying to talk to Cassie and Bob, and moves to the entrance of the Gulch to keep watch and feign ignorance of Raz, Ford, and Lucy’s presence. Raz can go back to him after helping either Cassie and/or Bob, and Cal is grateful for their apparent steps towards recovery, and baffled yet amazed by Compton and “Nick’s” arrival (with a hint that he already knows what’s up with the brainless Nick).
While Raz and company are doing final preparations for the Astralathe, Cal is distracted by Augustus trying to make it through the Gulch (and experiencing distress due to his repressed familiarity with it), allowing Norma to sneak by and witness the Astralathe activating. She comes back with Truman, and Cal is forced to let them by, knowing Truman is actually Gristol. He also witnesses Lilli tailing them and, realizing everyone is at risk no matter what and he has nothing left to lose, Cal instructs Lilli to distract “Truman” as long as she can and get out of dodge with Raz if the worst happens.
Cal runs back to the Motherlobe to search for the brain case just as Sasha, Milla, Hollis and Oleander are about to leave in pursuit of the mole. Cal begs Oleander to help him and he reluctantly agrees. The two find the case hidden in the mailroom and rush out to deliver it just as Maligula’s storm is released; they end up finding and protecting Lilli during the storm, and turn up just after she reunites with Raz to help with re-braining Truman.
In the post-game, if Raz either already completed or completes the sidequest with Cal and Oleander, they will be found together in the Gulch cleaning up around the Heptadome, and will confirm they’re talking things out. Cal will thank Raz with a signed copy of True Psychic Tales, though Raz doesn’t quite make the connection between Cal and the author. Cal also reveals Truman’s punished him for the kidnapping and undercover work by putting Cal back on the active agent duty he’s worked to avoid, intending for “Loboto” to start doing officially-sanctioned undercover work to clean up the remaining Deluginaries.

[ID: a digital drawing of an original, stylised Flatland character named Atlas.
Atlas is a white isosceles triangle with one eye, a large bushy eyebrow, an eye bag, navy limbs and a tail with a V-shaped tip.
He is posed with his knees bent inwards, his right arm bent up at the elbow with his hand held down, and his left arm held down at his side. His tail is curled up to his right side. He has a shocked expression with a red, orange and yellow star-shaped cataract. There are chunks taken out of his top and bottom right corners that are bleeding, as well as red outlines of a gash across his eye and two on his left side.
The background is black with a bright yellow star behind Atlas.

[ID: two grayscale digital doodles of Atlas done in reference to the ‘about to get a haircut’ meme separated by a white line.
In the left image, Atlas has no scars or chipped corners and has a round pupil. He is smiling and there is Snapchat text underneath him saying “about to go to work wish me luck”. The background roughly resembles the interior of a car.
In the right image, Atlas has his scars, chipped corners and star-shaped cataract again and is staring down with a devastated look. The background roughly resembles a hospital bed.

🌑 : A dark headcanon
Let me tell you the story of E'mal's blind eye!
When he was ehhhh 4-5, his village in Golmore jungle was raided and destroyed by Garlean forces. He was taken prisoner and sent to Garlemald. While he was there, a lot of Terrible Awful nonsense happened but on one occasion, being a little 4-5 year old BABY, he was too scared to look at the guards. They were poking and prodding at him in his little cell but he was afraid. Having some sort of weird power trip over a baby led them to taking offense to not being looked at and they grabbed him and used some laser tech to blind him. They told him if he didn't want to look then he didn't need his eyes. And if he avoided them again they'd take his other eye too.
THE MAIN POINT THOUGH is that they were wearing a specific mask (think: late allagan mask of maiming. That thing) so when he sees that mask or anything similar he has a horrible and immediate fear/trauma response.

For my work to cause such a viscerally deep reaction in a relatable or impactful way is my whole drive for creating. When I was younger, it was just to create things that mashed folks smile, like Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night did for me. Now, since I’m aware of many difficult and often traumatizing concepts that folks go through but it kept being swept under the rug or shunned for any reason—I want my work to provide the space for discussion of the uncomfortable.
“Art disturbs the comfortable, and comforts the disturbed.”
That’s my main goal with my work. A driving force to not only comfort but build for better in society.
This deviated from the point of this update as it’s now 9:15PM; but I’m happy to have vocalized it. Today was rather turbulent, so I wanted to get it out.

@pcrseverance sent: ❛  what do you want from me ?  ❜
"I want you to tell me that you were wrong. That you were all wrong." Truth be told, Baby didn't even know what he wanted. Rutherford, for all that he did, and didn't do, wasn't responsible for everything the Chantry and its... minions had done over the years, to Baby himself, and others. And he knew that. But Cullen was standing here in front of him now, and they weren't. Forgive him then, for letting Cullen take the brunt of his fury over it.
"I want you to tell me that ripping children away from their parents to imprison them is wrong. I want you to tell me that you should have quit the Order many years ago, when you saw what they really did. When you saw them whipping mages because they had the audacity to want their mothers." Without even meaning to, Hawke's voice was raising, unable to contain the anger that still welled up inside of him when the Circles were mentioned.
"When you saw them bleeding little children, using blood magic to hunt them down, imprisoning them in little cages in the dark for months, years," by this point, Hawke was almost shouting, unable to contain himself. His cheeks were splotched red, a vein in his forehead throbbing as he reached up, and tore off the black leather patch that covered his left eye, "--stabbing children in the eyes, trying to murder them in cold blood!"
What was revealed was a mess, a gnarled mass of twisted scar tissue in place of where his golden eye should be, purplish red streaks within the scarring brighter with the angry flush that had washed over his face.
And then, as abruptly as he'd escalated, the fire seemed to go out of Hawke, as he let out a rough breath, hands falling to his sides, almost in a shrug. "Tell me the whole thing deserves to come crashing down." His voice was gruff, almost hoarse now, but much quieter, so much of the heat and fire within him fizzling away, "That you were an idiot for joining those corrupt tyrants. Give me something to... make sense of it. Please."

"Don't you think I have the prettiest eyes you've ever seen doctor Danny?" (sorry for anon I'm too shy to say who I am but ahhh your Dannnyyy)
((You're fine~))
"Hmm..." No. They're still too bright to look at---still too bright by far. But maybe.... The doctor moves fast and in the span of a blink of he's in their personal space; nearly nose to nose with them in fact, with his right hand grasping their chin a bit too forcefully. Ahh, they really were hard to look at...but he could fix them.
Tumblr media
The hand holding their jaw releases it only for both of his hands to grab the stranger by the face and pulls them even closer. He's studying their eyes intently and with care despite his insistent internal disconnectedness distaste. He could FIX THEM. He could CHANGE THEM. He could MAKE THEM RIGHT.
"Unfortunately these peepers of yours aren't...quite right...but if you're offering them to me perhaps a closer inspection is in order!" They're not as beautiful as you think---not as they are---but he could help. Danny's hands are sliding the already short distance upwards as he speaks, his slender fingers twitching faintly. Preparing. "Hold still, okay? This won't hurt a bit and then we'll both see how beautiful they can be!"

Hey!
Ok so I was thinking what does the irken empire do when a soldier ends up loosing their sight partially or completely?
the same with a deaf irken what would they do????
Ah shit i completely missed this ask…
Irkens heal extremely quickly, so there’s not much that can really get an Irken to have to leave things like military service.
Irken eyes and antennae grow back even faster than the rest of the body as well, so things like blindness and deafness never really last long.
If an Irken eye is extremely damaged (like for example Zim’s contacts melt while he’s wearing them and fuse with his eyes like in Walk Of Doom), the eye could heal in a matter of hours, maybe a day at most. If an eye is dislodged like we see in Planet Jackers, it can be shoved back in with little pain and keep work. If an eye is completely removed to the point where it is completely disconnected from the Irken’s head, a new one can completely grow back in a few weeks.
So for eye injuries, most Irken soldiers go to a medic station to get themselves fixed up and rejoin the fight a few hours to a day later. If a soldier has their eye completely removed and cut out of its socket, then they’ll be taken away from the battlefield to a proper hospital, where they’ll heal in a few weeks and then be shipped off again once they’ve recovered.
Irkens basically can’t have natural eye problems because their eyes heal too fast and too thoroughly for that sort of thing to happen. There are some exceptions (for example, Irkens can be colourblind), but generally the eyes heal so fast and are structured so differently compared to humans that things like cataracts, eyes being shortsighted or longsighted to the point of needing glasses, eyes getting weaker with age, and naturally caused blindness are biologically impossible, and that’s without mentioning Irken medical technology in this subject.
(Fun Fact: Due to how Irken eyes heal, some Irken eye surgeries just involve safely and painlessly removing the eye and waiting, as nine times out of ten the problem is gone when the new eye grows in.)
Hearing is similar, but also slightly different. Irkens can hear in two ways, an inner ear, which are the main way of hearing things, and their antennae, which can pick up sounds but not quite as well as the inner ear. The antennae can heal from basically any injury. The inner ear cannot.
So in Irken society, it’s basically impossible to go completely deaf from an injury or loud noise. The inner ear can completely lose its ability to hear things and that would be permanent, but the antennae can’t and grow back extremely quickly. If an Irken soldier goes deaf in their inner ear, they still have the antennae, even though it IS less effective and can’t hear things as well. They basically only become partially deaf.
Deaf irkens that were born deaf or can’t hear using their antennae for whatever reason are usually given special devices that attach to the base of the antennae and let the deaf Irken hear through the antennae.
If an Irken soldier loses their inner ear AND their antennae are damaged or destroyed in some way, they’d be taken to a medical station (still near or on the battlefield) and they’d be back in combat in just a few days, as the antennae grow back even faster than the eyes.
(Also this I just a bonus headcanon but Zim is partially deaf and only uses his antennae for hearing, having lost the use of his inner ear in a lab accident.)
Even limbs being removed can’t keep you out of the Irken army forever. If a soldier loses a limb, they’ll be removed from combat and taken to a proper medical facility, where they are given a robotic limb and some time to learn how to use it, usually returning to the battlefield a few weeks to a month later.
Broken bones also won’t stop anything. As seen with Zim, irkens can heal bones quickly and can even heal broken spines in a matter of hours.
Also bonus headcanon: Out of all Irken bones, the spine and spinal area is the toughest. It heals the fastest and is the hardest to damage. This is because the PAK and more importantly Spinal Implants are located there, meaning that Irken spines not only have a large metal plate protecting them from damage, the spinal implants assist in the healing process and make the process way faster.

This Is Your New Home: Chapter 2
KC blew out a sigh from his vents. His fire had gone out again. Wonderful. The damned rain had made everything far too wet to keep it lit for long. KC moved and grabbed the lighter and drier wood, sitting the old wood that hadn’t been fully burned yet to the pile of wool to dry and be reused if he could.
Upon tossing in the lit firestarter, which was cotton and old newspaper doused with lighter fluid, the flame burst back up again. Thankfully, the rain had died down now. But, the second he lit the flame again, he saw a person vaguely like Sun. Perhaps Sun had gotten a new model?
“Ah, you visit me again?” KC asked Sun.
“Aw, you think I’m your Sun?” A different voice sprouted up. This wasn’t Sun, it sounded…off. He looked up to see it was a broken and ruined model frame of yes, Sun, but also Moon. Who in the hell was this?
“Who are you? How do you know Sun?” KC asked.
“Oh, you’ll find out.” The person told him. KC expected him to sit, explain he was a dimensional traveler Sun and Moon had saved from a horrible situation as he’d heard they’d done recently.
But the animatronic did no such thing. KC only felt a sharp pain in the back of his head and blacked out. KC woke up strapped to a table, what was this?
“Oh, you woke up! Wonderful! Amazing! My name is Jigsaw and your name is Paradox!” The same bot that had been there before he blacked out cooed at him. ‘Paradox’? Like hell was his name Paradox. His chosen name was Crescent, though he had yet to tell it to anyone but his children.
“Where am I?” KC growled.
“Oh, just getting one procedure done.” Jigsaw told him.
“I do not require a procedure!” KC snapped.
“Oh but you dooooo. You require one big procedure. You’re not functioning properly.” Jigsaw giggled and KC growled feeling pain.
“Don’t touch me!” KC snapped at him.
“Awww, you’re not behaving either.” Jigsaw cooed like he was simply a child, which only festered his rage.
“Let me out!” KC snapped.
“I have one little requirement to let you out.” Jigsaw chuckled.
“What!?” KC snapped.
“Beg.” Jigsaw simply said and KC gave a scream feeling his optic ripped from its socket.
KC powered on, oh thank god, he powered on. He couldn’t navigate, why couldn’t he navigate? Where was he? He felt his face and felt his optic sockets empty and ruined wires hanging from them. Right, he was ruined.
He felt cold flooring under him but it was rather soft. He felt the divots of the padding, the daycare? The padded daycare floor. He had passed out sometime after he had his spine broken in half and finally begging to be released. He’d given into that sociopath, dammit!
KC felt the floor and tried to find something familiar, where was he in the daycare? Not the ball pit, nor the garden-like area of the floor. He felt the security desk to his left.
He had been left on his brothers’ doorstep like trash. He was pathetic. A pathetic father, a pathetic brother, a pathetic existence. He used the security desk as a guide and pulled a chair to his liking, using it to hit the objects on the desk itself.
It created a successful toppling effect on the desk and, thankfully, one of the objects toppled had managed to hit the keyboard as he’d wanted and turned on the emergency alert system.
“WHO IS THAT!?” Moon yelled down.
“Me! KC!” KC called back.
“Why the emergency alert?” Moon called closer-by. He was using his fly wire down maybe? But Moon was in the daycare with him.
“Do you know someone named Jigsaw?” KC asked.
“Yes, why?” Moon’s voice got frustrated.
“He hasssszzzz aaaa…he haaaaa-hasssss a message.” His voice box began fizzling from the mixture of battery acid and bleach. Great.
“What!?” Moon asked closer.
“I kn-kn-know you hhhhhhave themmmmm.” KC growled silently as his voice box finally fizzled out.
“Oh my fucking god!” Moon exclaimed rounding the desk and KC took a few breaths. He couldn’t explain further, this couldn’t get worse.
“Jesus Christ, what the fuck did he do to you!?” Moon roared, dropping down near him and getting him up into his arms, something rather easy for him given KC was smaller than him still in this body. He patted his throat to motion for his voice box being damaged.
“Fuck, I gotta fix you.” Moon growled with rage, pure unadulterated rage. He didn’t think he’d ever heard this Moon so angry.
“That demented fucker stole our little brother and tortured him.” He heard Moon tell someone. Sun maybe? Sun was the only other sibling he was younger than. Lunar was younger than him, Earth was hunter too. And his children…weren’t around.
KC blacked out again from the agony that was his spine prior to Jigsaw snapping it in two. He woke up still blind, he supposed Jigsaw had been telling the truth that he’d disable the feature in him permanently to sight.
He felt around and realized he was in Moon’s bed. With the lack of plushies or cats or excessive pillows, it had to be Moon’s bed of all his siblings.
“You’re awake. Thank fuck.” He heard Moon sigh with relief.
“We had been looking for you for a month, KC. You lost GPS signal a month ago.” Moon told him as he helped him sit up. Moon had thankfully fixed his spine, though the pressure of sitting on the new one hurt and ached.
“It’s been a month?” KC asked softly, holding and squeezing Moon’s hand at the pain in his back.
“You don’t remember?” Moon asked.
KC was about to respond but then it seemed like the dam broke. Yes, it had been a month. His mind had suppressed memories of what had happened to him. He suddenly remembered his pelvis being broken, ribs, knee joints, ankles, hips, all of which had happened before his spine was snapped.
Horror struck him. He’d forgotten? He felt nauseous and lurched forward. Moon’s hands on him quickly left and he had a trash can thrust into his hands just before he threw up, throat burning with bile he choked up.
He remembered why his memory was suppressed from the month. Jigsaw’s favorite method of torture toward him. It made him feel sick and dirty despite being in a repaired and likely spotless body, it even felt like a new body but it still felt dirty and exposed. But he still felt dirty enough he wanted to scratch off his casing.
“You don’t have to say why you threw up, I know. You must’ve suppressed your memories because of it.” Moon told him softly and he nodded in response. “KC, it’s not your fault.” Moon told him and he took in a shuddering breath to his engines, listening.
“You didn’t ask for this. You couldn’t have. What Jigsaw did to you isn’t your fault. You’re not anything he told you you are, you didn’t deserve this, you are not a mistake.” KC sniffled a little at Moon’s words.
“I…Thank you.” KC simply agreed. It wasn’t his fault, he’d only trusted Jigsaw thinking he was a traveler sent by Moon.
“I have something that could perk you up a little. It’s not like, therapy or anything, but it might make you a little happier. Or cry. Probably cry.” Moon rambled mostly to himself.
“What is it?” KC asked.
“Let me lead you? I’ll bet you’re still not used to walking around blind.” Moon asked.
“I’m not. You can.” KC agreed and Moon gently helped him to his feet, setting the trash bin back where it was likely to be cleaned later. Moon led him what he thought was the main balcony room, given he got led through a tunnel.
“Zodiac, Horoscope, this is KC. The one I told you about.” Moon introduced. “KC, this is Zodiac and Horoscope. Your sons.” KC looked toward Moon with disbelief. Moon made him two kids?
“Dad!” KC’s new but still unseeing eyes went wide. That was Blood Moon’s voice. Moon remade Blood Moon? KC suddenly got hugged by a smaller bot, a foot shorter than him. And it felt so nice to be hugged by who he assumed was his Blood Moon.
“That one’s Zodiac, the other is Horoscope.”
“Dad?” Harvest Moon’s voice. Horoscope. His name was Horoscope now. KC felt tears building up.
“You remade them?” KC asked, voice nearly breaking with his tears as Horoscope came to hug him as well with his twin.
“I didn’t. Jigsaw made them. It’s hard to say, but he made them, abused them, and then sent them here for me to kill. But I couldn’t do it. They’re my nephews and they didn’t deserve me to kill them when they were beaten and abused. I couldn’t do that. Lunar helped rename them. So the older twin is Zodiac and the younger is Horoscope.” Moon proudly told him.
KC immediately descended into tears, hugging his twins close, his babies.
“Oh, and this one. Solar, he can’t see you, say something.” Moon told someone.
“Parade me around like a show dog, why don’t you?” ‘Solar’ scoffed. Eclipse! His oldest son’s voice.
“Go hug your damn dad!” Moon seemingly pushed Solar because Solar ended up stumbling into KC’s arms. He had his three sons.
Not the originals, he couldn’t have them back, they existed in his memories now. But he had these three, these wonderful new sons and he choked back a sob as he hugged them as close as he possibly could, fearing they’d disappear if he didn’t.

Grimaud's cemetery is grim in the rain. Damon is the one who has had the forethought to bring an umbrella and wouldn't mind sharing but there's not much point. The wet gravel crunches under Jacques' sneakers a few feet in front of him, his steps almost a run. Damon has to bite his tongue. If they shouldn't be seen, why are they here?
Didier Pironi's tomb is unassumingly lined up in a row of others, him and his brother side by side. There's a few flowers, some in pots, some not. Jacques hasn't brought any.
He stands there, in his t-shirt and baggy jeans, stubborn under the rain, just a step away from the shelter of Damon's umbrella.
"He had a lot of my father's things." - Jacques says  - "My dad never cared enough to have a journal, not enough patience, but he'd keep all of the train tickets, hotel receipts, the flyers and so on. All bunched up in folders. Pironi sorted them out for me in years and gave them to me."
"I didn't know you two talked."
There's a shrug. "He didn't want to. I am very stubborn."
The rain doesn't let on. Damon considers it a victory that when Jacques decides to sit cross-legged on the gravel in front of the grave, he lets Damon sit by his side with the umbrella. He's soaked through, his bleached blond hair plastered to his forehead, his round glasses fogged up by the rain.
"Once, we were in Monaco, Jody and Pironi came over. I was at the table doing my homework and they came into the room and stayed there talking."
He takes his glasses off. "I fucked up. I am not good at math."
Jacques says them but they are not his words. It doesn't make them a lie if you believe them. Damon hears what is not said: he has seen Jacques do math for the cars. He's good. A child of eight or nine should not be expected to be 'good'.
"Dad got mad and then got even madder because I knocked the pencil sharpenings over when I scrambled to try and fix the mistakes. He never…he never hit me. Not once. He would just walk out the room like I wasn't interesting anymore. I wasn't a very interesting child. Sometimes my mum wasn't a very interesting woman."
Jacques tilts his head, fingers gripping the tin frame of his glasses. He's never still. Damon knows the look on his face, PR proper. Lie,lie, lie. Keep the family secrets. How dare you do otherwise? But you forfeit your hand when you've killed yourself in a car and Jacques is here in sneakers and a t-shirt and all four wheels on the tarmac.
"My first real memory of Pironi is him with pencil all over his hands from picking up the sharpenings, sitting next to me doing primary school math."
He drops the glasses in the gravel and reaches out, the tips of his fingers grazing the headstone. "Didi knew who my father was. Didi saw what I saw. He loved my father anyway. He just wasn't blind. He always made me feel like I wasn't insane for thinking that my father was a horrible person. He also made me feel a lot less guilty for adoring him anyway. And if I win the Championship, I'll bring it to Didi first."
