Tbh as much as i love seablings i like the idea that lizzie's death has nothing to do with jimmy's curse more. Lizzie's death was her own. If we want to talk about jimmy's curse, instead of lizzie's tragedy, then let's talk about how it was broken on accident.
Consider this: every game has been the same except this one. Certain "curses" are attached to certain people - Jimmy the canary, Skizz the boogey, etc. But not this time - or, well.
Last game was the first time, according to martyn's canon, that two players were so damaged from the watchers' overfeeding on their significant traumas (pearl witnessing scott's suicide, cleo's own traumatic death) that the listeners were able to intervene and temporarily swap their souls out with, ofc, lizzie and gem, to give them reprieve to recover.
I like the perspective that instead of there being one death loop that restarts over and over, there are multiple happening all the time. They overlap. The watchers are of course constantly feeding - and perhaps this is why the members of each loop vary slightly over time. Adding ingredients, removing others, as time wears on. Lizzie was not actively in a loop during limited life - but that does not mean she hasn't been in death games in the meantime. Perhaps even gem has, too, though i believe possessing cleo was her first time.
Also last season, grian was yanked out of his body by the watchers, attempting to remove him from stunting the growth of their anguish farm (making it a game instead of a saw trap, as @stalarys so aptly put it). But he managed to keep his claws in the game, even going so far as to break beyond the literal borders of the game - "we're already dead," as he said, leading the nosy neighbors beyond the veil - because grian is nothing in any universe if not stubborn in the face of authority.
We know from last season that the games are already unstable. The listeners' influence is growing, and grian is proving to be more and more of a problem. (He definitely doesn't know about the listeners' existence, but he's likely unaware of how he may be helping them, and they him.)
Jimmy is not dead first. But he dies so soon after - the second body to fall.
The game, the watchers, the farm - it course corrects when things go wrong.
Grian, who has broken the rules this season not once but thrice - allowing an exception for scar to reroll, even allowing breaking of his own rule on helmets (for both scar and mumbo), and falsely rolling a success last session, is given a chaotic impossible task. (Grian tends to doom his allies - curse or simply bad choices, he is teamed with etho, and their rerolls are entwined. They seem personal, don't they? Etho ran from grian's wither once before. Grian died leading out a warden.) He succeeds, on one heart despite everything, only to be slain on top of the button itself.
He's stuck in spectator. Isn't that perfect? The game, HIS game, GLITCHED. His grip on his in-game body, the part of him he wedged into the mechanics of this death loop, slipped. He regained it, sure, but now he is forced to course correct: he comes back green when he should be yellow.
And grian has just seen the price of breaking too many rules. Jimmy's funeral was too soon. He switches back to yellow, rerolls for his deserved prizes at the cost of his own chances of victory.
(Because victory, while still a goal, is not the point. The point is to break the game.)
(Last season, tango watched one of his closest and most common allies sacrifice himself for his team. This season, he allies with him again. It's ironic that they're giving away their hearts to others - similar to giving away their time. Maybe skizz's death impacted tango too harshly. Maybe his pain fed a bit too much.)
(This is the first season since skizz, an angel, died so full of divine bloodlust that it manifested as the boogey curse, that he has been here and his curse has not. Two curses now, tentatively broken.)
(Martyn feeds the watchers more when he is an unguided hand, wandering and hurting, so ren has not been in this particular loop for a while now. He is available to replace tango, just for a bit, just like how gem and lizzie replaced cleo and pearl.)
Last season, the games finally started to break.
This season, we get to see the cracks.
(The watchers are more obvious this season. The keeper's symbol, grian's lack of achievement entering the end... They're grappling for control as it is slowly but surely dragged away from them.)

I just got back from watching Grian’s episode and the big things I've noticed are:
- definitely totally not an evo logo on the secret keeper (it is)
- he asked viewers to submit their own tasks (as in submit the players to the whims of the WATCHERS) (OUR WILL BE DONE)
- he requested that there be an end portal on this seed (if you've watched evo you know)
I think Martyn’s lore is straight-up just canon this time

Yes, I'm aware Grian is Xelqua, but it's also funny to have him use the name in the place of words like God.
Monkey see, monkey do after all.
He noticed the other hermits using the watchers names in that way, and started doing it to blend in.
Which yes, does end up in him quite literally cursing his own name sometimes, but at least he blends in!

Lizzie and Jimmy’s death shots, as promised.
Like I said, these two had a special role to play in Secret Life. I wonder if Lizzie would have broken the canary curse if Jimmy hadn’t killed her earlier? Either way it was a near thing.
Some claim that the curse *isn’t* broken — that Lizzie didn’t technically die first and is instead falling into the void forever. I don’t know that I fully buy into that theory, but it will be interesting to see who dies first next season, won’t it? :D
Stills and video clip from the AMV in my pinned post. If you do look me up on YouTube, say hi — I adore reading your comments!

I drew were I think Joel and Lizzie’s fragments would apear. I know they don’t actually glow out of cloathing/shoes— but I wanted to show where they were. (Yes they are falling in the void, shhh it can be different colors they are glowing.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Explanation;
Lizzie has two fragments, one from last life and one from secret life. I hc that she fragments more easily and hers are much larger than pretty much anyone else’s. (Other than mumbo)
Her fragment from last life is on her back for the amount of times she was backstabbed/ betrayed in the series. (Obviously I couldn’t draw her back and her face so.. too bad-?) but I imagine that the fragment covers the majority of her back.
The fragment from secret life is on her face almost like tears. This was the heartbreak of no one coming to her party, and how the rest of her series played out after that was quite tragic to be fair, she never really got any revenge or closure.
Joel are e v e r y w h e r e.
He’s been on every series and never won so he’s just got a bunch. Most of his fragments are small because I don’t think the watchers would get much from him. The only times they get to feed off of him is usually because of the loss of his wife, only sometimes from a team mate. He isn’t usually close to people in most series, just causing chaos.
3rd life’s fragment is on his foot. I did this because of the kinda funny way he dies trying to put the fire on his house out but dies in the process. So yeah— he kinda just stepped in the fire. (Fairly small fragment cause he ain’t got no friends)
Last life is the neck because of how he always had it out for people, putting a target on him. (Again no friends except for scar but they barely counted as allys) ((lmao I didn’t know where to put this one really ))
Double life is his hand. I did this because boat boys and it’s like he’s rowing the boat (idk that’s my reasoning) I imagine Etho has one on the opposite hand because they are rowing the boat together <3 ( you get it right? They both have an oar to row the boat with) This was the first time Joel has a meaningful alliance, and it’s bigger than the first two fragments.
Limited life is his chest/heart. I felt that this was when Joel had the biggest connection with his team and was completely distraught when Jimmy died. The watchers were eating that shit UP. ( the fragment reaches out to his arm that’s why it looks like there’s six. I totally DIDNT make a random one somehow and am making an excuse for it being there)
Secret life is on his face, matching his wife, how cute. This was because of all the heartbreak he endured in the episodes including and following the wither-warden battle. He loses Lizzie, Jimmy, and mumbo all in one day and then on the last episode is the reason that Scott is able to kill Bdubs when he accidentally shot him. Overall just real sad times for him. And not even that— he dies to Scott once again, the one person he wanted dead the entire episode.
His fragments grow larger each season as he grows closer to the other players.
Edit— yes I know the fragments don’t look how they do canonically, but they look cool so shhhh. Also the ones I said are small but don’t look small in the picture, also just mistakes.

you guys. the lore this session. ive only even watched Grian so far. but Lizzie dying first into the void - breaking Jimmy's curse - with SCOTT around. I know Scott didn't push her but imagine he did. the watchers telling Grian where the nether fortress was. the watchers wanted that to happen. the watchers wanted the chaos. Grian entering watcher glitch mode when he died/pressed the button. the watchers trying so hard to make Scott die and Scott still surviving. I think it was some other force that pushed Lizzie into the void. Something else, someone else. Ren possessing Tango forcing his way into the world to look for Martyn. the greens and yellows defeating the wither. and being ok again. someone else is intervening. something is happening. something INSANE has happened. this was the most intense life series episode next to the finale of 3rd life and that one last life with the wither.

Bruh, do y’all think this is what’s like when the listeners try to throw a death game?
The watchers make it all bloody, the listeners have no idea what they’re doing, but they figure you know, if this is what the players are normally doing, maybe that’ll make them more comfortable while the listeners try to steal them away?
So… they just try to throw a death game…

i've just had a thought;
cmartyn and cren probably have matching fragments now. going by the logic that each fragment is from a significant moment, ren's from 3rd life is most likely around his neck from the beheading. what with martyn's for secret life being around his neck what with the secrecy/dog collar... ough.
carrying the dogwarts banner as he wins and marked the same as his king when he loses
