Orson Scott Card: Two of the most interesting books you’ll ever read if you’re willing to look past a handful of things. Ehem. Just dropping in to let Poppy know that before Poppy- Kingston never even thought if women apart from Rena. Not even in a 'I'd hit' kind of way, even during those 'non monogymous stages' Rena put them through. Even Ryan thinks that about some women he sees. King just wasn't interested.

This is for various reasons, some kinda sad, but the point I want Poppy to take in is the fact she was SO CUTE and so wonderful she catapulted King out of his slump and he w i l l tell her that XD

What other reasons are there that Kingston only focuses on his one gal? You said some are sad; are all those sad reasons because of Rena? Mr. And Mrs. Kangaroo don't seem like they struggled with their marriage... (wicked I swear if they had their own rough patches that shaped how Kingston views love, you owe me a new heart 😭😂).

And!!! For Poppy!! Ohhhh my god. She's got no idea how to handle this. This sounds like a plot to a romance film; how could little old, anxious, stays-at-home her have broken a man like KING out of his slump???

I'm just imagining King decides to bring this up randomly while they're cuddling on the couch, watching a nice movie, or reading together. Poppy laughs softly, very flattered but not really letting this information sink in, "Oh, King. You're too sweet to me." until Kingston tilts her head up so she can see the earnest love in his eyes, "No, darlin'. I'm serious. 'Yer the only other woman I've wanted. Ain't no one like 'ya."

And then Poppy stops, looks almost like a deer in headlights as she fully realizes the way he's holding her, how he's looking at her. And it hits her so hard that she's got someone who loves and treasures her THIS much. She has to look away and cover her face with her sweater or in his shoulder, feeling overwhelmed with this but so happy and loved, even if she has no idea how someone like her got a guy like King. And Kingston can't help but laugh and fall even harder for his adorable little lady, "King!" // "Haha, what, doll? I'm just tellin' the truth!" // *flustered, happy girlfriend noises* "I love you too!"

She loves him so much. He makes her feel like the luckiest gal in the world. She wants Kingston to know how happy he makes her and how this new information affects her heart ❤️

how could you possibly say who you are with any kind of certainty yk

and just listening to Odysseus's monologue in "Keep your Friends Close" really drove that home because his line "I just want to hold you close why won't you let me" and the image of them drawing away just makes me panic because

what if they didn't recognize him

or what if Penelope rejected him? or telemachus had him arrested for trespassing? what if he'd killed himself trying to get home for twenty years, and when he finally got back, NO ONE knew who he was? Not his wife, not his son, not his people--no one.

and like--odysseus himself didn't even recognize Ithaca when he first got back. Imagine the pain compounded on itself when the people who he'd fought monsters and gods and death itself for refused to accept him?

Percy had always, admittedly, had an innate fear of magic. It was powerful in a way that Percy could never know, never wield. ( maybe he was jealous, privately. not that he'd ever admit it. ) he'd tried to even the playing field with his weapons, but… they were only good for tearing through people, not healing them. perhaps this fear, this jealousy, is why he is thankful when Gale pulls a poultice from his pouch, rather than opting for any magical alternative. it doesn't offset the bitter aftertaste of accepting help from the wizard. it's an easier taste to swallow than that of vulnerability, than admitting that he needed help.

his jaw is set stubbornly as he tries not to betray his sentiment, thick awkwardness permeates the area around him. It's how he looks past Gale, trying to focus on anything but what he was doing. he'd yet to learn very much about his traveling companion aside from their shared condition. Percy thought he ought to at least thank him. if Percy could push past his silly pride, maybe he could.

it stings when Gale dabs at the congealed blood that had gathered on the surface of Percy's wound, likely an attempt at cleaning it. a goblin had taken the courtesy to bring their blade down on Percy, leaving a wicked grin of a gash spitting blood down his side. it would have been irritating had he taken the time to think about it. percy clears his throat.

"I've never been good at this sort of thing, " Percy admits, his voice stiff. He should have feigned a bit more grace, but he thought they both had an excuse after the day they'd had, " is it a skill you picked up in your studies? or is this a special occasion? "
