Bob, they tried to kill you and your wife. And now you're choosing to return to Jamaica for a peace concert.
BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE (2024)
Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green
yanno... I actually like how the Joxer-loves-Gabrielle plotline in season 5 puts a lot of focus on the awkward position it puts Gabrielle in. tbf I don't remember all the details of this and I didn't watch every s5 episode anyway, but in general this subplot does often very pointedly state the message that a dude's feelings are his own problem, and it's wrong to make it someone else's problem. when Joxer confessed his feelings and said 'no strings' he should've meant it and moved on when Gabrielle didn't reciprocate, instead of pressing and overtly pining afterwards. Gabrielle never throws him a bone, and, eventually, Joxer does move on.
it's a lesson more men should see in media tbh
this also largely goes for the Ares subplot lol. sometimes you love a woman and she doesn't love you back even if you do selfless things and become a better person, and you just have to grow up and deal with that. being a better person is its own reward anyway.
like these subplots are often annoying as hell and I fully get why a lot of Xena fans completely hate them, but i do find it refreshing that neither ends in receiprocation, the women aren't demonized for not reciprocating those feelings, and the message is ultimately that men aren't owed anything from women even if they try to 'earn' it.
worked on Jason, tried a bunch of character portraits...
Roman had some plastic surgeries to look the way he does, child him was chubby and had a uni-brow, he ended up developing an eating disorder thanks to his parents. Yay
Tried to draw Harvey Dent post-accident, then redesigned Crane's face a bit, and tried to see how he would look with long ratty hair after 10 years as Scarecrow.
The fella with the goatee is Connor Fitzgerald, aka June's dad. He happens to be very very close to Roman.
And of course some attempts at drawing Marley during college and 10 years later, right before the Scarecrow fucks her life up.
literally these four minutes and change of cinema are a masterclass in acting and direction and cassavetes continues to break my brain with the ending to faces
So I watched the Migration movie today and I was enjoying it up until I met this Jamaican bird named Delroy.
The issue isn’t that he’s Jamaican, bc I’m Jamaican American and I love to see representation of my culture. But it was the voice actor that completly ruined the rest of the movie for me.
His accent was off. And for those of you who don’t know Patois and the Jamaican accent in general, it may be hard even realize, but it sucked.
My issue is that they casted an American who did it. Not even a Jamaican American who was raised with Jamaican family. I’m sure there are so many Jamaican actors and actresses that could have embodied the role so much better.
I don’t only want to see proper POC representation in live actions. I want it in animation too. And that includes language, dialects, and accents.
My grandpa's wack ass fish spit out 2 of the 3 pellets I gave him so they sunk and now he's looking at me like he wants more motherfucker you HAD MORE!!!!
thanks @sableglass for the words! I love these a lot –
my words:
sting
She’s already regretting her decision to go out and smoke tonight. New job or not, she won’t be able to buy more for a few weeks, and aurums are about the only thing that takes the sting off her situation.
chase
And then it’s night, but no one’s come to chase her out of the stable underground section of the building just yet.
care
“I’m going to be ill on Saturday.”
“Should I tell him it’s a flu?”
“Something contagious. I don’t care.”
empty
Violet drops her bottle and lets it clatter to the ground. It echoes down the long, empty hallway between L5 company towns. There were supposed to be electric trains running this corridor, back when people were still the ones designing the ship.

This may be my most controversial Xena hot take yet but I gotta say it:
I think Ted Raimi nailed it as a reincarnated version of Xena.
A lot of it is the writing of Harry - the cynical skepticism, the playful dickishness, the irritated protectiveness of Annie. The way he doesn't watch the show just like Xena not reading Gabrielle's scrolls lol. (Incidentally surgeon is a great choice of career for modern Xena, and frankly woowoo scam artist is a great choice for modern Gab lol) But it's also like, line deliveries and gestures and expressions, and I totally buy Harry as a modern version of Xena. It's very easy for me to imagine Lucy Lawless in his place, making fun of General Custer, rolling his eyes at everyone, threatening a lawsuit, etc. I guess to be fair he's a little hammy as full on memories-back Xena, with his "Aaaares" drawls lol, but even then like, it was a fun fight scene and I think he overall succeeded.
Also, as much as it sucks that Xena/Gabrielle was only allowed to be canonized while het, I gotta say that I really appreciate how they did it. Annie bowing out before Harry and Mattie have barely exchanged two words because she already knows they're soulmates, the Xena/Gab flashback montage, showing the kiss from The Quest as one of the clips demonstrating their relationship, and Harry calling Mattie his "friend" before kissing her, to pointedly make it clear that Xena and Gabrielle calling each other friends is not intended as a no homo.
Plus I fucking love that, at least in this episode, Ares is completely dtf Raimi!Xena. Not fazed at all, no hesitation, just flirtatious glee that Xena's back. And I looooove that Ares never actually thought he'd join him lol, he just wanted to get a fun fight out of it <3
Honestly if this was the actual last episode of Xena I think it would've been a very sweet and cute sendoff.
