Q: Give me your faerie book recs! But recs that aren't Holly Black books, Sarah J. Maas books, or the Iron Fey series. please and thank you. Bonus points if it's something I haven't heard of before. My go to recs for faerie books are basically all of Juliet Marillier's novels. Basically every one of her books (she writes mostly historical fantasy) has fey in them. She write faeries that align with the traditional Irish lore more. Kelley Armstrong's Cainesville series is another I recommend. It's urban fantasy with some good mysteries and fey meddling. The Lionheart Province trilogy was based on the Grimms fairytale: The Maiden Without Hands. When I first read the story, I found it truly was quite grim indeed. However, this tale is one of a very few from the Grimm Brother's collection that was a story of hope, forgiveness, and redemption. Once I had that revelation, I had to write Kardia and Leon's story. I also decided to set it in the world of Alburnium that so many of my readers fell in love with as they journeyed through the White Road Chronicles 6 book series. I placed the Alburnium Chronicle stories back in history before Alyra the Illuminate and her friends found themselves battling Lord Darnel's attempt to overthrow the kingdom. However, along the way in both the Lionheart and the Phoenix stories there are several familiar faces that appear, along with family lines to explore. Including Darnel's rise to power. Q: Favorite book that features the fae?. 🧚 I love a story involving faeries – I can’t say I’m well versed or know a ton about fae lore, but I enjoyed what #TheseHollowVows told me! 💫 Full review on the blog now, link in bio. 🗡 Abriella (Brie) is a human thief, and a good one at that. Brie and her younger sister Jasalyn (Jas) live a poor life but they have each other and thats all they care about. One day while Brie is out, Jas is sold to the Unseelie King to pay off their debts – leaving Brie debt free, but without her sister. She must travel to the faerie realm to try and rescue her sister – even though she despises the fae and everything about them. I loved Brie and her resourcefulness. She cares about her sister first and foremost and will do anything to protect her, even if it harms Brie in the process. She’s passionate and sometimes unpredictable. Brie is morally gray, and thats something I truly love about characters. She will do what she must to protect those she loves. The pacing of this story was incredibly fast and I was eager to continue reading more. There was never a dull moment and everything felt well calculated. I went into this not knowing too much and I advise you go in the same way. There is a love triangle, there is some kissing and swooning, and rule #1 of faerie is you can’t trust anyone. ✈️ FLIGHT DELAY ✈️ . Wouldn’t it be nice if books always launched perfectly and on time? But like airplanes, sometimes they get delayed and all the folks who bought tickets are left gloomily wondering what went wrong. . In this case, it was a backlog at the printer that put production of the SWIFT hardcovers behind a few days. So today it’s launching in e-book format — thus this lovely repost of @readingbee.444’s pic — but the limited edition hardcovers won’t be shipping for another week or two. Alas! . That means I won’t be holding my virtual launch for SWIFT until 9/3, to give printed copies a chance to wing their way to the lovely readers who preordered them. The first one I listened to was Tim Clare’s writing podcast “Death of 1000 Cuts,” but when I was still obsessed with Star Wars I enjoyed several eps of the brilliant podcast “What The Force” and I’ve also had fun listening to “Stuff You Should Know” and “Stuff You Missed in History Class,” among others. There’s so many great podcasts to choose from! 🎧 I love being on podcasts too, especially bookish ones.
