Fnaf Theory: Fall Fest, The Aftons, Williams Mistress ??

this is a little random but i have this fnaf theory thing i wanna talk about. idk if anyone has brought this up before but here we are !!!

in relation to these tv show episodes i think this is telling the story of william afton’s relation to micheal afton and also relates possibly to fallfest and charlie’s death

here the woman in the show is telling this vampire (in PURPLE) ((it’s william lol)) that the baby who i think represents micheal afton is his even though he denies it

i think whoever this lady is is a MISTRESS of william aftons and Not his current wife or partner. i don’t know if this has been brought up before but i think this is interesting and could be why william denies the child so much and maybe a reason why william cares for micheal so much less than the rest of his children(?) but i’ll come back to that

so i think this tv show tells a story from around the time of fallfest so the 70s (or maybe slightly before with the fallout happening around fall fest after he’s been born) where william had an affair with someone and she ended up pregnant with micheal

i think this part of the show is meant to allude that william wasn’t a big part of what would become fazbear entertainment just yet. maybe he worked under henry (?) maybe they both worked under some else and took over from there (?)

let’s talk about fall fest so it’s this mysterious possible origin story for all of fazbear entertainment and

we all know it’s likely that fall fest burnt down somehow and i think that’s very interesting considering what clara the mistress says during one episode

she says she burns down the vampires house, a house that looks very much like the fnaf 4 house which we are almost certain is the afton household

both being depicted as up on a hill, it’s also interesting that i think it’s help wanted 2 when in fall fest you can spot a house up on a hill nearby. i think this is the afton household and maybe

the fire that happens at fall fest comes from william aftons mistress burning down his house for some reason maybe it’s his denial of micheal or maybe that’s a metaphor for something else or maybe william taking Away micheal after deciding to go back to his wife

another thing i wanted to bring up quickly is the fact this william figure calls his car a rental and that could make more sense of why william was never caught for charlie’s death if he was using the same rental or rental cars at the time

by the end of the episodes the william figure and the mistress do get back together i have two theories on this

1. they do get back together but eventually fall apart again and william wins a legal battle for micheal leaving his distraught mistress who burns down the house and william gets back with his wife and then has the rest of his children, preferring them to micheal

2. due to them getting back together during the secret second ending of sister location it could show a happier outcome for micheal that never happened, a happier non canon ending that quickly gets interrupted by ennard and micheal gets scooped

either way he will never escape his past and Who he is related to and what his father William put his mother through and everything that happened thereafter

i don’t know how much this changes or if it’s true but i thought it was interesting enough to bring up !!! i thought of this while listening to markipliers old sister location play through at work so thank you mark <3

Some Thoughts About Sun and Moon, Their Transition from Fall Fest to the Pizzaplex, and how Their Lives were Slowly Corrupted

Not sure how coherent this is, considering it's relying on some theories I haven't posted yet and haven't seen anyone else post, but I hope it makes sense. I was writing this as a quick background sketch for their mindset going into a oneshot, but I think it's good enough to post here, maybe give some people something to chew on or a new angle to take for their own works, if they want. Content below the cut, 'cause it's kinda long.

Moon always liked scaring kids, I think. But as Jack o’ Moon, it was in the playful, ‘Oooh I’m gonna getcha’ way. His act with Sun really was an act. They were happy, I think. Not that everything was sunshine and rainbows. They weren’t the main feature of Fall Fest, always pushed beyond the limits of their battery, not really given proper maintenance when they should, left to their own devices most of the time. But it was all they knew, and they really did adore the kids. Sun loved basking in the sun, playing fall-themed games with the kids, hinting at his “dark other” half throughout the day and playing like he had a terrible secret. Overacting his heart out when Moon “wrestled control from him.” It was fun. And Moon, too, enjoyed playing the “scary” Jack o’ Moon. He liked chasing kids around, snatching them up or tickling them when he found them, hearing their laugh-filled shrieks as they were caught. He liked going round and round on the carousel, so much that he sort of became part of the attraction at night. He liked teasing and joking with Foxy in the downtime. Sun and Moon were both separate and, at the same time, one. Both the same person and their own people. Literally a Jekyll and Hyde-inspired attraction. And Eclipse, the safe mode they rebooted into to reset the cycle, was good, but hardly needed. It was nice, though, to be truly one for a little while. They always enjoyed that.

And then Fall Fest burned down. And they were left to rot for fifty-ish years. And when they were finally recovered, rust-covered and shell-shocked, they were thrust first into the log ride and carousel, because maintenance didn’t realise Jack o’ Moon wasn’t the only one, and then later moved to the Daycare. It was… sort of similar. The day/night cycle they were familiar with. They liked playing with the children. Being responsible for them, though… it got to Sun. It was fine when he was just meant to entertain them, but being responsible for their wellbeing? It was too much. He got more and more overbearing, especially after the first few incidents and Parts n’ Service visits. He needed them to do exactly as he said to stay safe, and why, why, why weren’t they listening?!

And Moon, he was so disoriented. First, maintenance tried to remove him entirely, purely because he didn't fit the Daycare theme, but of course that wasn’t possible, because he was Sun. So instead, they stripped all the protocols he was familiar with (or tried to, anyway, didn’t quite work), and shoved him full of naptime procedures instead to sort of go with the Day/Night cycle system they couldn't change. And security protocols, because why not? Moon still was the boogie man, because that’s what he’s always been, but now he’s Moon, too. Naptime attendant, needs to make sure all the naughty little boys and girls sleep. He would chase them and catch them to put them to sleep, because that’s what he’s always done, but in the dark Daycare and different context, children were more scared than delighted. And that frustrated him, but it also felt right, because children were supposed to be scared of him, and he was very, very confused and conflicted. The urge to soothe literally warring with the urge to scare. And then he had his security protocols on top of that, which made him inherently violent in a way he hadn’t been, before. Not just creepy and touchy but dangerous after hours. And the boogie man part of him liked that, too. He liked creeping up on naughty little trespassers, guiding them or chasing them or dragging them into backrooms and clawing them ‘til all their insides were on their outsides. It was a fun game. He did it with STAFF bots, too, when he was bored or agitated.

And all this terrified Sun, when he realised. When Moon started really acting deranged. When the dismantled STAFF bots started appearing in their room. When Moon got rougher with the children. When Moon started genuinely fighting for control, after Sun genuinely started trying to keep him out. And all at once, their play struggle for control turned genuine. Sun was genuinely terrified of Moon taking control, fighting to keep him out all day everyday, ultimately futilely, but still trying because he had to. Because Moon was really, truly dangerous now. And Moon, frustrated with Sun because this is what he’s meant to do, and Sun’s being selfish, making everything about himself, not listening, being a hypocrite, starts shutting Sun out. Pushing him away. He doesn’t fight for control like Sun does, not yet. He knows that Sun can’t fight the light changes, he’s just upset that Sun’s even trying to in the first place. Moon accepts his role and is fine, even happy, with it, despite his Sun problem. Sun isn’t, becomes more erratic, overbearing, desperate, but ultimately can’t do anything.

And as a background to this all, they’re still being treated terribly by management, not given proper maintenance, not even being cleaned regularly. They’re the only reason the Daycare is spotless everyday, and it’s because rather than hire a proper cleaner, they shoved Sun/Moon full of OCD-like protocols that force them to prioritise cleaning messes over literally everything else. They’re at odds, strung out, overworked, and not even given enough time to charge properly. They’re at their wits end all day, everyday, with no end in sight.

Sun can’t even enjoy playing with the kids anymore, because he’s too wrapped up in everything that could happen to them, all the messes they make that he has to clean up, and that if they’re not having fun like they’re supposed to, he’ll get in trouble again. Moon’s doing… relatively fine, in comparison, but is slowly becoming an actual boogie man. Losing parts of himself in it. In the "if your former self could see you now he'd be horrified" sort of way.

My wack, most likely to not happen prediction as to how the upcoming fnaf carnival game is gonna be is like,

it's gonna be us playing spy for William and we're gonna be bribed by him via sweets and pizza and chewing gum, and we can switch between playing as Evan, Michael and Elizabeth,

Evans mechanic is that he can sneak past more people, and can manually try and see the faults in how fall fest operates, which is time consuming,

Michael's is that he can see more things (because idk, hes taller or smth) but he'll have a harder time comvincing carnie's to let him onto rides and attractions,

Elizabeth can get more people to tell her things rather than her manually going and snooping, but the information is a bit vague/she has a time limit or somthing

Like I said this probably isn't how the game isn't gonna be at all but hey, at least we can make a fun AU out of it lmao

The first fnaf game theory without MatPat, and I will say I was scared, but Tom came through. As Tom has been helping write the scripts for theories far before Matpat retired, I'm not even sure why I felt nervous. This video still feels like Game Theory, with the classic editing and witty jokes.

This theory focuses in on Fall Fest; what happened and who was there? We tie a lot of loose threads with this video. Tom has a pretty compelling theory that I don't want to spoil now.

Even if you miss MatPat, this is still a worthwhile video, and a brilliant theory.

other fnaf shenanigans incoming!

adding on from RyeToast's video on the identity of Old Man Consequences, the whole dreadbear coming out of the water for the fall fest game/being able to force the bear sprite into the water in fnaf world made me think about the second possible soul in golden freddy.

so we know (?) that the crying child (maybe cassidy) must have died in the hospital or mostly likely did from the flatlining sound in fnaf 4, but we never really know how any other possible possessor died.

what if, to weave the kidnapping theme that the books and the movie seem to show for at least one child, that maybe (very big maybe) the other possessor was kidnapped (?) and drowned before being maybe stuffed in the suit. this is actually a massive reach but surely the sprite being able to drown in fnaf world has to mean something??

there's also problems in that it doesn't fit afton's MO at all and that it can't be the first killing because that has always been susie.

i don't know it's just an idea.

Ghost - You really like his body. Like... really like his body. You blow raspberries on his stomach, you smack his ass, you talk about his eyelashes—scratch that, you love his body. To you, every scar tells a story, and you've asked him plenty of times to talk about them. And then you did the unthinkable that had Simon wanting to disappear into the fucking blankets—"Si-bear, I didn't know you had a mole on your inner thigh!" Bloody fucking hell, he'll never hear the end of this. And then you kissed it and Ghost's face had never felt so bloody hot before. Christ, you'll be the death of him, sweetheart.

Roach - Nothing but the most sickeningly saccharine stuff to ever stuff happens with Roach. A poke-fest, a kiss-fest, a tickle-fest, you name it, it happens. Roach loves to sleep with his face buried in your chest and arms wound tight around you. Always. You rubbing his head soothes him to sleep as well.

Alex - You're also the big spoon here, too. You're busy talking about conspiracy theories you believe the government is/was involved in and Alex is entertaining you ("That so, Boss?"). In actuality, his eyes are comically wide because the truth is oftentimes stranger than fiction and you may or may not be walking a little heavy there, Boss.

Alejandro - Is the big spoon to your little spoon in bed no matter what you're doing. Loves to intertwine your legs together, too. Alejo murmurs how much he loves you in your ear and kisses the top of your head before telling you good night.

Rudy - Sometimes when he's asleep, you'll whisper "Rodolfo" in his ear which causes Rudy to shoot up, eyes comically wide because the only time someone calls him by his full government name is when he gets into shit but it wasn't him this time, it was that idiot Alvarez— "Didn't get to tell you good night and I love you, Rudy, so... good night and I love you, Rudy." Oh. Oh. Ha. Real funny.

Farah - A cuddle bunny through and through. She loves laying up under you, her head resting on your shoulder or under your chin, or her face in the crook of your neck. She wants to hear you as you sleep. She wants to feel the gentle rise and fall of your chest or the resonances as you speak. Farah simply can't get enough of you.

Keegan - It's really you teasing him because Keegan isn't one to really get flustered or deviate from his infamously neutral expression. Much. Until you came along. You two are relaxing in bed and you're the one randomly calling out, "Hey, Kee-Kee," to which Keegan makes the most surprised and disgusted face in response and you're wheezing.

Bonus points for Mr Darcy-style Draco tromping around his estate. Quote that made me snort: "Any promotion of your business will absolutely be based on how gorgeous your wood is.” Harry smiled reassuringly, then blanched at how ridiculous his wording sounded. “Er. I mean. The wood, not your wood. The wand wood, that’s yours.”

A Hag, A Hex, A Tale of Redemption by @aibidil (43k, Explicit)

A fuck-or-die fairytale in which Draco Malfoy lives a despicable and unapologetic life — that is, until he's cursed to die unless he can fall in love with and fuck Harry Potter.

Not only does this fic have fabulous wandlore (wands for non-wizards!), but it's a twenty-four carat fuck-or-die curse fic (in a CONSENT fest, so think about the implications there). It features a a deliciously unredeemed and furious Draco and, of course, is crammed full of Aib's impeccable humour and smarts. The deft use of a folklore-y fable adjacent narrative style rounds off what is simply an excellent fic.

Packed with magical theory and both wandmaking craft AND Veela magic. The characterisations had me kicking my feet (these boys could bicker for England), and the insanely hot UST had my heart racing. Absolute banger.

Erised 2024 Fic Rec List!

I wanted to put this forward before @hd-erised reveals to maximize the blindness of my recs for this year’s fest!

These were my favourites among those up for offer, in order of posting (note, this is fic only - every single piece of art was gorgeous and is worth looking at it): 

✨ Runaway Train (18k)

This is a cool fic. I can’t think of a better word to describe it. Right from the get-go, the reader is strapped in alongside Harry and we are on a journey. The title fits the feeling of that perfectly. I was not expecting the end result of the mystery, and I mean that in a way that left me with a sense of wonder. It’s so incredibly original. 

I also love a Draco who isn’t afraid post-war of appreciating old magic. There’s nuance in his separation between that which is bad and good! Also, I’m a sucker for when the conflict or tension in a Drarry fic is Harry and Draco versus something else, not them against each other. They make such a great team when allowed! 

✨ At Night All Birds are Black (51k)

This fic put a lump in my throat at the end. The first thing I think about when I consider this fic is the resolution because it brought everything together so beautifully. 

I don’t want to spoil since this is a case fic, but it was just so captivating! The lore and worldbuilding were just incredible. 

✨ Body and Soul (22k)

I find myself rather fussy about both soul mark and creature fics. This one explored the comorbidity of two such things in such interesting fashion that it hit the notes for me! There was also just enough angst to hurt, and the happy ending made it very worth the pain. Bonus points for magical/Healing theory and using framing as a narrative device!

✨ The Pain From an Old Wound (30k)

When it comes to magical theory and case fics, this one continued the trend of me being fed this Erised season. The nature of inheritances and wizarding culture are more tropes that I am very picky about, although this fic did it in a way I enjoy. 

It delved into other tropes that I thoroughly enjoy but don’t see very often in fic, like including things about Malfoy Manor, a bigger role for Narcissa, and (because I don’t want to spoil) THAT SOLUTION to how Draco solves the blood curse placed on Harry. Also, I must mention that I very much enjoyed Ron as a socialite! 

✨ A Soft Place to Fall (142k)

Although the word count on this one was initially daunting, I became very quickly glad that it would take me multiple days to savour and enjoy this fic. It hit so many notes for me that I don’t even really know where to begin. 

The magical theory (again, fed) was incredible, and how it tied in with trauma and healing for Harry. I found it subversive in the sense that it touched upon trauma post-war that I don’t usually see, focusing more on his childhood than the war itself (although of course that is not forgotten). 

It also features a Professors-but-not-Professors AU, with Healer Draco and Harry teaching physical ed. I always enjoy Healer Draco anyway, but I loved seeing the non-explicit ways that he has changed his life since the war. He’s great with the students who end up in the hospital wing. He had a hand in physical ed being offered at Hogwarts, as well as the fact that Muggle sports were incorporated. When he realizes that something is off about Harry (following an incident), he puts aside their initial tension in order to fulfill his Oath. It’s completely organic that he truly begins to care. That is never brought into question for the reader (Harry takes some convincing, but what do you do lol). 

Other things I loved: ZACHARIAS SMITH (it’s possible!), the students (they are so cute), and Harry’s relationship to his trauma and how he learns to love himself. And, of course, it goes without saying, how Harry and Draco grow together. This will be a go-to comfort fic for me, in future. 

✨ Seven-and-sixpence (35k)

There are some tropes that are very difficult for me, infidelity (although it is NOT between Draco and Harry here) and open endings among them. HOWEVER, sometimes a fic will come along with those tropes on offer and I will be pleasantly surprised! 

This fic was that for me. There was something about Harry having such a deep need that going to Draco regardless of his current relationship that really spoke to me. And as for Draco, this is pretty much the only way I like him portrayed when he doesn’t feel worthy of Harry. He’ll still take him, and he’ll build him up, and then his sense of inadequacy only increases because if he didn’t deserve him to start, he certainly doesn’t now. I really enjoyed the complexity of that. 

✨ Prescription (2k)

In contrast to the previous one, very sweet! Also a perfect bite size. Draco is Harry’s favourite Healer, and they go from there. ❤️

✨ Old love don’t rust (20k)

A case fic, although the case (however interesting!) is merely the backdrop. I thoroughly enjoyed the non-linear narrative, and how Harry and Draco’s history was gradually built while they’re dealing with coming back together in a tense, high-stakes sort of way.

I struggle generally with ‘getting back together’ fics, since I have a hard time seeing them letting go of each other once they have a hold, although to me it’s very understandable that life gets in the way, especially when you’re young and just getting started. This was handled in a satisfying way to me. 

✨ Equipoise (88k)

More magical theory! And another case fic! I love case fics when magic itself has something to do with the solution, as well as magical creatures being included. The way magic itself as a quantity is handled in this fic had me spinning up theories and hitting Next Chapter through to the end. The secondary plot, based on a creative play with Unbreakable Vows, was also a nail biter. Poor Harry, but thank god Draco was willing to help him out. 

✨ Victory Lap (4k)

There’s a lot of story here for under 5000 words! The Wizengamot case that Draco was sequestered for is HELLA interesting, and seeing as I’m always a hungry sucker for Established Drarry, Draco and Harry’s reunion was a lovely (and hot) read. 

✨ As Luck Would Have It (12k)

I am very weak for canon divergence Drarry, especially in 6th year. Do you want Half-Blood Prince, but Draco and Harry are weird and unable to stay away from each other? Do you like it when the canon plot is changed in interesting and creative ways, and comes up to an exciting conclusion? Well, I do, so I loved this fic, and if you do, you’ll love it too. 

✨ Storm’s Eye (12k)

The chemistry is on point here, the lore/theory intriguing, and the race against time palpable. I’m a sucker for Draco being protective of Harry, and of calling him ‘love’ and ‘darling’ so naturally. I melted every time (and so did Harry lol). Extremely satisfying. 

✨ Kiss Me, Fuck Me, Love Me (5k)

Yay, more non-linear narrative! This is another thing I am being fed on this year. 

The fic balances being sweet, hot, and funny perfectly and creates an explosion as Harry and Draco ride out the last night of their mutual pining and the first night of their relationship on New Year’s Eve! I realized while reading this that my favourite kind of Drarry mutual pining is when it’s their friends who are suffering, not so much them, lol. Pansy and Ron’s individual theatrics about Harry and Draco was hilarious. 

So those were my favourites! I'm very excited for reveals to find out who the authors are! ❤️💚

"Ribfest is back," shouts The Mayor, immediately before he descends into the turret of the tank and seals the door behind him. He is not wrong: Ribfest is indeed scheduled for this weekend, but the amount of cowardice shown in this one interaction makes me question his moral authority to preside over it.

This event is special in my town, but not for the reason that it used to be. Every year lately, folks get tooled-up on their homemade barbecue sauces and start to lay siege to the town around them. Nobody is really sure why this started so recently, but the active theory from the FEMA scientists is that AliExpress "has a lot of great shit for sale" and you'd be stupid not to experiment with putting some of it on some fall-off-the-bone braised pork.

Now, most folks would tell you that if you're going to end up fighting off your neighbour with an ice pick every year, simply don't go. This is a dismissive argument made in poor faith. And, worse than that, it's disrespectful to the meats, a concept that would make my dear mother faint in horror. The threat of imminent death that hangs over every moment of the proceedings simply adds a new dimension to the flavour.

Here's how I do it: I get in and I get out, fast. You don't want to be caught unaware while you're busy tucking into some "C"-tier stuff slopped out by the kindergarten teacher, Ms. Shotwell. No, the real strategist figures out from last year's ordeal who has the best barbecue in town. And this time, it's Barley Mowat, a young gun who used to be a television journalist before the Bad Times began. He got replaced by a machine sentience, has no job. Lives for the ribs, as do most of us now. Sometimes he starts to tell you a fact about how sewer pipes are made, or how many football fields long a structure is. It's best to just let him talk, even outside of the shrieking rage fest of a Ribfest-induced hallucination. We hang out at the bar, sometimes. He drinks a lot.

Barley's ribs are once again top-tier: he's got some kind of green chile sauce this year. Lends a real taste of the Southwest to every bite, which is tender and rich in equal measure. Plus, he clobbered a dude from the backpack store with a golf club when he tried to steal the up-armoured NASCAR that I used to drive to the event. Don't park in the designated spots, folks: like I said, get in and get out.

Alright time for another dca theory rant at early am... bc im tired of the community sleeping on the dca lore implications and not talking about it.

So today I was playing Security Breach, I recently finished my first run and working on getting afton ending and/princess ending. And being the completionist as i am, i go to all the areas to get all the gifts and bags with notes. But some caught my interest.

I was going underneath the backstage tunnels (the ones where you see the "Freddy you're supposed to be on lockdown" scene with Vanessa) and i found a little ally you need Montys claws for, as i do, i open them and to find a small room filled with twisted looking trees and branches with a projector in the middle of the room to a large screen upon orange tarp covering circular objects. I find it more strange because it first reminded me of the Dredbear games in Help Wanted vr games, then it reminded me of Fall Fest but also of the theater room in the pizzaplex. Weird right? Well the present on top of the projector was a Sun figurine.

Does that count as Sun being more connected with Fall Fest? Far fetch for something of a vague room but it was just odd to put something like that in there.

Then as I got lost adventured along the hallways, I found the area were you get chased by Monty, Chica, and Roxy in those misty hallways near those same tunnels. Well. I found another Monty claw access room where it looked familiar. It was the same or VERY similar layout as the frankinstine mini game in Help Wanted VR where you put the bot pieces together. It was literally the same room. tvs, conveyerbelts and all. And thats where I found the Moon figurine.

And typically you find these character figurines in related areas, like alot of chica stuff will be in the kitchen or her bakery, Roxy stuff in raceway or near any chase sequences. Stuff like that, its relevant, it makes sense. So why put Sun and Moon, one of the most vaguest characters (that has collectable items mind you, i dont see any vanny or music man plushies anywhere) in spots that reference completely something else but also familiar to the player/fanbase?

Also, now knowing what we know now about fall fest? We have seen a lot of references to it at this point and who is the recurring character to show for it? Sun and Moon.

Jack-o-moon in secret level of Foxy's ride in Help Wanted 2 (and i point this out as like a maybe thing, I know this was in the Plex but i can also see this as a carnival game, but also, why Jack-o-moon? his clothing and look is so vintage, it would be more accurate if it was just moon because he was chasing us through the plex, not this jack-o character)

BB World arcade. It takes place in a carnival as well. And as one of the few playable minigames thats even tucked away and hidden that takes alot of effort to get to, has to mean something. You have the Sun and Moon in the background starting with Sun happy, then goes to Moon whos mischievous and evil looking, then back to Sun who looks mad and so on. Thats also where we make our first impression on Eclipse. Well maybe not so much its Eclipse...

When you follow the glitch line in the BB world minigame, what happens at the end? We found that the creepy looking sun/moon replacement covers the screen and prompts in purple "good night". We deemed this sprite Eclipse. Which fair. Thats what we knew at the time. Look at it again. Please. It does not look like Eclipse. It looks like Jack-o-Moon better. It has the correct coloring compared and even has an odd mouth coloring like who we see in Help Wanted 2 than to the Eclipse we see in Ruined. So the "Eclipse" we see in not Eclipse, it is Jack-o-Moon. Which makes sense because that may the dca was at the time of Fall Fest was.

Everytime we see Fall Fest, its Jack-o-Moon (vise versa).

I hope this made some slight sense or you saw where I was going with this because Im actually loosing my mind.

New theory andor is the story cobbled together by historians a 100 or so years after the fall of the Empire. Fest being ferrix is a translate error. They can't find any evidence for why Bix left, so they made it up(also why she kinda became a random stay at home wife type randomly). The key plot points and the main story is right, but the nuances like the whole character flip from "take me in or kill me" to having to be convinced to join the rebellion is just misinformation. Maarva really did kidnap a child, though that happened she's just like that.

I finally reached the (bitter...Yikes) end of my first proper, no-skips, series rewatch. For the past 8 months or so I have been watching, listening to podcasts, reading fanfic-- just went all in. Fanfic lead me here to all of you- the first time I've actually engaged with other fans. It's been a genuinely positive and life-affirming space- -thank you to everyone who has created and maintained it.

This will sound dramatic, but engaging with the x-files so fully has been healing to my inner-child (inner -adolescent, really). Until recently the last time I read fanfic was in high school, printing out pages to devour, hoping my clandestine mission wouldn't be interrupted by a phone call or a nosy sibling. It was something that was *mine*, which was genuinely special in a household of 7. A home that was often chaotic and inconsistent and where it behoved me not to need much.

So this sloooow-burn, chaste-but-oh-so-sexy intellectual romance attached to my desirous, confused, young Catholic mind nearly instantaneously. It was a refuge and a joy and simply something to look forward to. I was embarrassed, though, for anyone to know how much time I spent considering the characters, scrolling through chat spaces and the gossamer project. Liking things sincerely and passionately wasn't cool (except for football, I guess? 🙄), particularly a (however popular and mainstream) Sci-Fi show. (Even tho for me aliens and monsters were always a quirky, vibey backdrop to watch 2 impossible people fall in love. But then again Romance wasn't afforded any more respect as a genre).

Over the many years since my engagement has come in intermittent spurts- rewatching favorite episodes, reading occasional fan theories. Getting tipsy at a dinner party and talking for too long about Gillian and David's storied and fascinating dynamic.

... The revival 🤷‍♀️ It happened and I watched!

But like for many, the last several years have been hard (to say the very least- I know I am deeply privileged in any relative sense). I said goodbye to my dad and marriage within a few months. I moved states, twice. Got sick and (mostly) better. Confronted an incoming middle-age that looks little like I had imagined. Started over, day after day. Coped. Survived- via friends and laughter and little shreds of hope. And the x-files.

Cliched though it may be, in therapy I've been learning to get to know my many 'parts'- including a lonely, temperamental teenage me. A part that is angry and sad but who really just wants to be heard, seen, and taken seriously. I told my therapist recently how psyched my 15 year old self would be to know that now I can watch x-files *anytime* I want and I never have to fight over the TV or computer- I have my own! I can read fanfic endlessly, geek out with other fans, write and read long posts riffing on the stuff I love and hate and find ridiculous- with a group of hilarious, thoughtful people just as obsessed. That I can even buy tickets for a friggin festival full of these fellow fans (hit me up at Phile Fest y'all!) ! That I am way into the show again but without any self-consciousness. That in a hard time I am lucky enough to find comfort and joy in something I've so dearly loved for so very long.

And that like 20 some years later Mulder and Scully will bang twice in one episode. Canon.
