I just finished the audiobook, Part of the Furniture by Mary Wesley, read by Samuel West. I absolutely fell in love with all the characters, and all the wonderful dialogue and personalities were enhanced by Sam’s reading. What he can do in creating different character’s voices is just amazing. Why can’t every book just be read by Samuel West!

For me, this was the type of story that just made me feel like cocooning myself in a blanket and listening to it all day long. I wanted it to go on and on and to hear more from the characters.

That feeling is one off the many reason why I adore fan fiction. The character/s that you love go on and on and on and can lead so many different lives - the possibilities are endless. And sometimes, because they are written by others who also love the characters, they are even more fleshed out and fully realized than they may have been originally.

Also, a quick shout out to the amazing person who gave me access to this story!

Your words mean so much to me.

They pick me up when I’m having an awful day.

They make me happy.

They give me chills.

They make my heart clench.

They evoke a staggering range of emotions.

I am so grateful for each and every fan fic I have ever read.

Fan Fic Appreciation Day!

I remembered that today is Fan Fic Appreciation Day, so I thought I'd make a post shouting out some of my favorite authors! This isn't in any particular order and it's probably mostly Star Wars fics, but you should definitely check all of these out! Oh, and I'm absolutely gonna forget some people, but I'm doing my best!

This got kinda long, so it's going under a cut! You can feel free to add on any fics that you'd like to talk about, of your own and others!

Okay FIRST is my girl @laughingphoenixleader!! She writes incredible Kanera fan fic-- Moonbeam: A Masterpiece lives up to the title for sure. She's so funny and incredible at writing the deep moments between Kanera! Plus she's come up with some spectacular OCs, and her way of portraying Kanera is clearly rooted in how much she adores the characters!

@chaoticdumbassrogue is so incredible at Kanera, too!! And she comes up with the BEST headcanons (I'm still low key in love with her Kanan as Mira's brother headcanon) and her au ideas are genius!! One of my favorites of hers is Cooking Lessons, which she actually gifted to me!! Super fun story!!

One series I didn't expect to get obsessed in would be the Empire Reimagined series by @musewrangler. It's very original trilogy centric, and the main characters are two Imperial officers, which definitely surprised me, so it took me a while to get into it. But then I started reading Rebellions Are Built On Hope when it was first being published, and I was won over so quickly by the kindness of the main character (Admiral Piett), and how he was very adoption oriented. My favorite part about these stories is how central a theme platonic relationships are-- I routinely lose my mind over Veers and Piett's friendship-- and how the author treats them with the same respect and care romantic relationships are treated with! (also Veers is hilarious and amazing and so ride or die for his best friend I love him so much)

An author I very recently discovered and became obsessed with is @jessicas-pi! She's one of two authors who have convinced me that Sabezra is actually a pretty awesome ship, her Quinlan Vos is hilarious, and her SWR time travel Time Heals All Wounds is slowly consuming my mind!! (seriously, I could NOT STOP THINKING about one of the cliffhangers, I was cackling like a deranged lunatic). Also she's SO funny

@hecckyeah is amazing for many reasons, not least of which is the fact that she's the first fic writer on here who I'm shouting out for non Star Wars reasons (that said, her Star Wars fan fics are AWESOME you should check them out). But! I'm a huge fan of scout and rainy, this incredibly adorable Dousy fan fic that I LOVE! (but also her Star Wars stuff is amazing and so deep and intense and I love it so much)

This collection would be incomplete without me mentioning @okadiah. They wrote one of the very first full length Star Wars Rebels fic I ever read, Blackbird, and so many other amazing Kanera stories!! Blackbird is amazing, incredibly intense, and overall just a really, really good read if you're willing to absolutely lose your mind over the tension but also DANG the message is good also Maz Kanata is there

There are two fic writers here that I'm gonna shout out, but honestly have not read enough of their stuff-- @winterinhimring and @sidesofmayo. I really love what I've read of their work so far, and I'm so excited to read more!! The former wrote an amazing RepComm series called Cin Vhetin that I'm slowly but surely tackling (don't worry, I promise I haven't forgotten!) and my favorite of the latter's was a fic that was posted on here, then ended up on AO3 with a second chapter! It's called Their First Place, it's Sabezra, and it's SUPER CUTE I'm gonna go read it properly after I post this

OOH JUST REMEMBERED ONE!! following a lover's path by @pontmercyingtil is easily one of my all time favorite Kanera fics, it's beautiful!! The Kanera is amazing and I just REALLY love the story. Plus the author's writing style is amazing!!!

There are a handful of other fics where I don't know the authors of on here, but I HAVE to shout them out anyways because I'm obsessed! (if you know the authors, feel free to give them a tag!) First is Morning Light by SweetSinger2010 (one of my FAVORITE Kanan lives aus I've ever read), & are we there yet? by iconocible (just. the feels. the angst. the V I B E S) Chess Pieces by Synapse (which I've definitely shouted out on here before but this ALSO has impeccable vibes which fit A New Dawn SO WELL) and An Unexpected Habit by Jillie_Chan (I particularly liked chapter five because Kanan and Ezra's father son relationship my beloved also you have NO idea how long it took me to find this fic)

This was for fic writer appreciation day, but I’ve been pretty busy, so it’s a little late.

Hold the Pain, Release Me

Eddie made brush stroke after stroke, never really stopping to think or question, going with the flow. His mountain was sharp and ragged with thick layers of gray, tons of black, the sky a thin strip of blue. It was a sprawling fortress of granite and stone.

And when Eddie took a step back to look at what he’d created, it hit him, what had been hidden inside, what had been struggling to get free, he was finally able to visualize his sadness and anger.

His knees gave out beneath him, but Buck was there, grabbing onto Eddie’s shoulders, holding him up. “Hey, its okay, you’re okay.”

Except he wasn’t.

Alone In The Dark With You

Buck couldn’t remain here alone with all his racing thoughts. Catastrophizing. That’s what his therapist called it. He had to move. He continued trying to dig his way with his good hand, but the way the rocks had fallen, if he removed one, another took its place. It was like he was inside an hourglass.

But he wouldn’t give up.

There. Was he hearing things? A scraping sound.

His adrenaline spiked. He pawed at the rocks again, because noise meant movement and movement meant—

“Buck?”

“Eddie?” Buck rasped.He was alive! Eddie was alive.

(Or Buck and Eddie get trapped in a cave-in and things go from bad to worse.)

Eddie doesn’t remember the shooting and Buck is haunted by it. As they struggle with their feelings for each other, Eddie and Buck grapple with the realities of trauma recovery and the understanding that everyone heals at their own pace. Coda to 4.14.

(This is a pretty deep dive into the recovery process. Both physical and emotional. )

The World Is On Fire And No One Can Save Me But You

“This is a riot, not Afghanistan,” Buck blurted.

“And I’m trained Army medic,” Eddie said, stepping forward. “This is just another battlefield with a whole lot of civilians caught up in the middle.”

Buck understood Eddie’s desire to jump in and help, felt it in his very bones, and a tiny part of him was screaming about rules and regulations, but then again, how often did he ignore those? “Well, you’re not going back there alone.”

We Found Each Other (Over There)

A combat medic and a G.I. meet during one of the world’s greatest battles. A WWII European Theater based AU.

(This story is my favorite. It’s grim and intense and full of history, but most of all, it’s a slow-burn with a happy ending.)

My take: Minseok as King, has lost his Queen & wife during the birth of their twins. Jongdae is the lte Queen's younger brother. He volunteers himself as the King's new 'Queen & wife' to keep the alliance between two kingdoms, strong as ever. Together they navigate their extraordinary marriage and parenthood to the babies. Never have I face palmed so much, at the pair's miscommunication and misunderstanding.

My reaction: Jongdae's insurmountable regard for duty. Minseok's noble and honourable nature, is so wholesome to read through all 100pages.

Wait...

It's November. It's November first. Yesterday was October 31st, so October is over. ...it's over. Is it over?

Inktober, artober, whumptober, flufftober, linktober, every tag ending with -tober that's been circulating for the past month... is it over? I don't know why it's just hit me but...

This matters. So I will try to get the message across, even though I'm not the best at it sometimes

Fanartists, fan writers, artists, fic writers, people making comics, every single one of you that has created art for the past month...

This is my first October on tumblr. When I started seeing the "tober" tags, seeing the posts from artists with wips, saying they were going to make something every day to a prompt, making masterposts to update with each day, I thought "cool"

But every day this month, I have gotten on here and smiled.

And I don't mean smiled. I mean I smiled at least 20 times every time I got on the app because I saw all the art and fics. I got to see artists/writers connect stories through different day prompts. I saw people having the most brilliant ideas and creativity, flowing from their hands into their posts. I saw artists responding to continuous asks, telling them how amazing they are. I saw artists getting behind, and keeping going.

I saw Free. Beautiful. Emotional. Amazing. Original. Creative. Art.

Every day

I haven't committed to anything of this before, so I can't directly relate to what you guys were thinking and feeling. But I'm willing to guess; I think you probably enjoyed it, because most won't do such a huge project unless they enjoy it. I think you probably saw it as a challenge you were willing to fulfill, and an opportunity to grow and develop your skills.

... but I'm also willing to bet you did it for us. For people like me, who love art, but don't do this specific type, who are in fandoms, who love tracking and watching you art and sending you compliments, who take joy in your work. For the other artists (and writers!) who admire each others styles and love to learn from each other.

If anyone ever tries to tell me that humans are inherently evil again, I will strap them to a chair, pull up these posts and say look. Look at what these people did. Look me in the eyes and tell me these sorts of actions don't come from the most loving hearts. Tell me these people don't want to make others happy, that they aren't inherently good. And I will tell you you're wrong.

I have so much going on, yet somehow it slipped into my life that I was constantly looking at your art for the joy of it without me even noticing.

And how is it possible. That we have such a beautiful community of people here that we will share. And communicate. And exchange compliments. And literally do things and send asks solely for the purpose of making someone smile.

I'm almost crying by now. God I can't express it well enough! But I am so. So. Grateful

You guys brought me a month of joy! You gave headcanons, and art, and stories!

Even yesterday, Halloween, I was blown away. Because I had expected... I didn't expect anything. And then I log on and see people sending happy halloween asks, exchanging doodles of candy, and headcanons and gifs.

And some are still catching up to the schedule or whatever, and that's ok! But at the beginning of this post, when I was simply realizing it was November, I asked myself "is it over?"

Is it over?

... I don't think so. I've seen artists say they're going to continue and expand on a piece they made and especially liked this month. Some people are still continuing, catching up to a voluntary deadline. All those masterposts with your whump/fluff/link/ink tober art? I know many as well as myself will be going through, looking over your posts with smiles, catching up on some things they missed this month... it will continue in the people and artists I didn't know existed before, but now follow. In the skills and growth in creativity! In the community we've grown, and art you've made, and the art to come, at a normal rate like every other month, even if it's not October anymore!

But my artists, writers... thank you so much. I don't know if you guys know how valuable and amazing you are. How incredible it is that you exist! People say it's amazing we exist under a sky of such stars, but how incredible is it that you made a stranger on the internet smile every day! Your life is so. So. Valuable. I can't even express how grateful I am that you exist, that you somehow are selfless enough to share the most beautiful parts of yourself simply to create, and to create joy. Thank you so so much.

(And this applies to all artists, in any fandoms, not just mine. And I'm just as grateful to people who couldn't do something every day, or only one day! You still share your art, you're just as... incredible. You are incredible.)

So I'm gonna do this, and if others want to do it in the reblogs that's great! I do not care at all about reblogging or likes, but I want to make the people that have brought me such joy some appreciation- I hope I can bring you even a smidgen of the light you have brought into my life. So I'm gonna tag all the artists/writers I know of/can think of that have done any sort of October challenge, all of you creators that have made me smile. If people wanna want to tag others in the reblogs or replies to spread love that's cool.

I just want to say I love when the ToA fandom does anything. It's always like that spider man meme in the tags/comments. It feels like we all live in one big town sometimes and you're all neighbors that I borrow sugar from on regular occasion. Like, yeah I know them!

Me whenever the lovely people of this fandom do anything at all: Y'all just so good at everything. Stop that. Please. Leave some talent for the rest of us.

something fan fic writers always get right about james, is that his friends will immediately adore you from the first glance. sure, will sirius be a tad bit jealous that someone new is taking his position as james’s ‘professional little spoon’? probably, but that doesn’t mean within a week he is all over you begging to take james away so he could have a moment of peace just for a second.

seeing james happy, makes the marauders + the girls even more happier. that’s how real friends are suppose to feel :)
