September 7th, 2023 - Google’s Update has finally concluded after it's koolaid smash entry in August. I created a new blog post in August 2023 so I could update the article in real time twice a week. I was aiming for a featured snippet in SERPs for a low competition Featured Snippet at the top of Google page 1, so you can understand what on-page SEO methods you'll need to plan. Also, timescales; featured snippets can take months and years of chasing before you hit the sweet ranking spot and enjoy extra traffic. This core update, confirmed by Google to have completed rolling out on September 7th, took over two weeks to fully implement. Volatility was seen in waves, with initial fluctuations around August 25th, another surge near August 30th, and final volatility in the days before it ended. As with previous updates focused on Google’s core ranking systems, this latest August 2023 core update targeted all types of content and languages worldwide. It aims to reward high-quality, useful content while downgrading low-value pages. Sites generally see ranking increases or decreases of 20-80% or more. While Google continues to release algorithm changes, they changed from the old dancing way of flicking a switch; the gradual rollout method used in 2023 has the purpose of reducing large fluctuations and frustrations. This is to combat an overnight domain bombing in search, like in the twenties with the first introduction of E-A-T and HTTPS-favoured urls in their algorithm changes. The volatility of Google’s search results in the early days of the search engine, was caused by a number of factors – including the fact that Google’s algorithm was still under development and that the search engine was constantly being updated. The Google Dance was a major source of frustration for website owners and SEO professionals. It was difficult to predict how a website’s ranking would change, and it was often impossible to know why a website’s ranking had changed, in the mid-2000s it levelled out as Google’s algorithm became more sophisticated. However, the term “Google Dance” is still used today to refer to any sudden or unexplained changes in Google’s search results from older generation of online marketers. The phrase became more widely used in 2004, when Google’s algorithm was updated and the Google Dance became more pronounced. The Google Dance began to subside in the mid-2000s, but the phrase is still used today to refer to any sudden or unexplained changes in Google’s search results.

Kaiser wonders why he feels like this.

He knows what it is, of course. It's that clawing, heavy feeling of missing someone. The type of yearning that has him frustrated at himself for feeling something as cringy as that. It's embarrassing, the way he wants to see your face. He wants to be within your presence. He wants to feel your hands on his face, fussing over how pretty he is in a way that makes him feel more flustered than smug.

No, he shouldn't even feel like this. Not when you're so confusing, constantly making him think that you're totally in love and then proceeding to be nonchalant. Ugh, you're so infuriating! Do you get a kick out of making him frustrated? You probably do. He can even hear your voice teasing him for longing like a loser. Always holding him tight and then letting him go.

Why is he missing you, anyway! He's above that!

Kaiser slumps onto his bed, head hidden on the pillows and hoping that the ground eats him whole so that he doesn't have to face the fact that he's yearning.

You and your stupid face, stupid voice, stupid smile, stupid laugh, stupid way you run your hands through his hair before cupping his cheek and–

Damn it, he misses you. It's hard to see you when he's stuck in Blue lock, and god, he hates how he wishes you were right here.

He pulls out his phone, brows knitted as he opens your contact, hands gripping the device so hard it might break— if the way Kaiser's eyes were burning holes into your profile picture couldn't already crack the screen with how pointed they were— and typing out a message.

Kaiser considers telling you how you've been on his mind, quickly deleting that to save the last bits of his ego. He can't do that. Is he out of his mind? Instead, he types a ‘fuck you’, like that alone can show you how he feels.

He waited for a few moments, slightly lighting up when a bubble appeared, three dots animated, showing that you read his text and were drafting a reply. He expected a question mark or something, that would've made him feel a little better, knowing he got something like confusion out of you. It's a nice thought, considering you were always the one teasing him. But, of course, you will always turn things to your favor.

Kaiser throws his phone across the bed. No, he was not smiling. You're a cornball. He hates it. Ew. Cringe.

He definitely didn't hug, or rather, squish a pillow to his chest, wondering if you miss him, too.

So I’m reading something online and stumble onto a post where somebody mentions the Harkness Test. I’d never heard of it (or at least not recently enough to remember it), but from context, it was clear that it was something along the lines of it being moral for two characters of different species to have sex as long as they are both able to communicate and understand consent.

But of course, being a Doctor Who fan, I recognized that this is probably named after Jack Harkness, who is famously very horny for every sentient species in the universe, so I wanted to google it to see if that was in fact the origin.

Zero-Click Searches: How Google SERP Is Changing SEO in 2025

Search is fast evolving, and strategies to keep atop the same level are evolving alongside it. A huge change characterizing the current-day SEO is the rise of zero-click searches whereby users get their answers straight from the Google SERP (Search Engine Results Page) without clicking on any links. With the active development of features such as AI Overview, featured snippets, direct answer boxes, and People Also Ask, Google is revamping the whole way information is sent forth.

What Is a Zero-Click Search?

Search experience without clicks happens when Google shows enough information right on the search results page so that users don't feel an urge to visit some other site. For instance, if someone searches “What is SEO?”, Google might throw up a featured snippet or direct answer box to answer the question instantly. So, the user doesn't click through to an actual website, although the query remains answered.

The shift owes mainly to users wanting quick and reliable answers and Google's striving for ever better UX.

Google's AI Overview and the New Search Experience

In 2025, Google announced yet another massive update named AI Overview that deploys generative AI to accommodate an entire summary at the top of the SERP. Generating an AI Overview means the tool does not produce one snippet but collates relevant information into a short corollary answer from various sources.

Users do benefit from AI Overview in that it provides quicker answers and requires less scrolling through other links. It is a marketing challenge, though. How will one earn visibility when fewer clicks are coming on the traditional blue links? 

Speaking of Zero-Click Searches and SEO

For SEO professionals, that change meant that it was not just about ranking #1 anymore; it was being featured in AI Overviews, featured snippets, or the People Also Ask box. These are the new "prime locations" on the search engine results page.

These features increase the visibility of your company, establish authority, and probably affect the user's decision, even though the user doesn't directly click. For this reason, zero-click SEO is becoming a primary concern for marketing teams.

How to Optimize for Zero-Click Searches

To appear in these high-visuality places, your content must clearly and clearly answer users' questions. Use simple language, well -structured header, and include relevant data in paragraph form. Search engines prefer materials that are easy to scan and understand. You should also pay attention to questions-based questions. These often people also ask streams and can trigger direct answer boxes. The material that directly addresses "what," "how," or "why", is a better chance to be selected by the Quaries Google's AI system. Schima -like structured data like Markup, also helps Google understand your content and improves your possibilities of joining AI observation.

The Future of Search and SEO

As the discovery experience becomes more interactive, with AI heavy lifting, the abolition will have to be adapted. Traditional SEO is not dead, but now it should work with strategies for zero-click visibility. It is no longer about traffic - it is being seen. Even if users do not click, Google, being part of the top of the top of Serp, creates trust, awareness and long -term brand value. This is why understanding and adaptation for zero-click discoveries is required from 2025 and since then.

He raised a hand to the side of his face and winced. “How strange,” his voice had gone soft and dangerously silky, “I thought you despised the people of Guisorn III, yet, you want to revel with them? Mother will be so pleased you’ve come to finally accept their blood as your own.”

Another fling. That's all that this was.

Otoya Eita. You know how popular he is, how easily he gets bored of relationships, and how he flirts with a new girl every other week. Your friends have disapproved of him, and you brushed them off, claiming that it was just another casual thing, that you aren't that far into him.

What a lie.

He had you hooked, head over heels. Crawled a way into your mind and stayed until you were addicted. Even when you knew this wouldn't last more than a few weeks, you held onto a thread of hope that you could fix him— that maybe he'll reciprocate the feelings you felt— and everything will go well.

You're not an idiot, but you were a hopeless romantic. You hoped. Even when deep inside, you knew you couldn't change him.

“Hey. Let's break up.”

In a blink, gone.

Otoya said it all too casually, like discussing the weather. Not even a hint of any other emotion other than nonchalance. A trademark of his character. And you wished he broke out of that indifference, because maybe then, you could've fooled yourself into thinking this hurts him, too. It would've made everything a bit easier to swallow.

You really were just a fling, and one that he has grown bored with. The rest were a blur, with choked up words and a crushing weight on your chest.

Those feelings still lingered, even as weeks have passed. Even with loud music blasting and vibrant neon lights, it still wasn't enough to drown out the piercing burn, the suffocating smoke that stuck in your throat and pricked at your eyes.

No amount of alcohol was enough to get you tipsy enough to tear your gaze away. Away from the man you promised a future with— a promise that's now being shared with someone else. It makes you feel sick, but you can't look anywhere else but him.

Not when Otoya is someone you can't ever forget.

For you, and for @helenvader, who also asked for this not-quite-a-WIP. Sorry for taking such a time - I wrote some of this up pretty quick, but I was too lazy to actually type it up for posting. :P

At last they came to it: the nethermost hall, the place where the Enemy had his lair, the very heart of the rot. Evil brooded behind its dark doors, reaching out to them as a foul mist breathed forth through the chinks of its hinges, so that even Eönwë felt himself falter. But gathering himself once again, he raised both banner and sword, and called to the others: “On, on!”

With a shout of defiance against the darkness, they charged the doors, breaking them open and sweeping within. The darkness rose to greet them, but it was slashed through in many places by the red light of torches, which disclosed fitful glimpses of the evil aspect of the hall, hinting darkly at the many instruments of horror that decked the walls, and writhin across the carvings upon the piers and arches, so that the stone faces seemed to leer and gibber hideously at the intruders. A shudder passed through the company, yet Eönwë had no thought for any of these things, for his eye was drawn at once to the far end of the hall.

There, upon a stone dais, hunkered the black throne of Morgoth, adamant, darkly gleaming. It stood empty, bereft of its lord, but at its feet, something shone bravely in the gloom. A lone figure, its head bent, bright hair streaming over its face and shoulders, its limbs gathered in upon itself as if it sought to make itself small beyond sight. And at the sight of this figure, Eönwë’s heart smote him keenly, for despite all this time, despite all the long ages apart, he knew him at once.

“Mairon!”

Heedless of any trap that might have been awaiting in there in the darkness, he threw the banner to Ingwë’s son and rushed forward, letting fall his sword as he fell to his knees and, with trembling hands, reached out to touch the bare shoulders of the figure.

“Mairon,” he said again, his voice hoarse, “Mairon, do you know me? It is I — Eönwë.”

At first, there came no response, and for a moment Eönwë feared Mairon was unable somehow to hear him; but then, slowly, Mairon stirred beneath his hands. His head rose, and through the loose fall of his hair, he stared up at Eönwë with a look of bleak desolation that pierced him like a lance.

“I had hoped,” he said quietly, “that you had forgotten me.”

“Forgotten you?” cried Eönwë. “No, Mairon; no, never that. Why would you say such a thing?”

But Mairon only shook his head. As he did so, there came a chime of metal upon metal; and for the first time, Eönwë noticed the chain.
