February 2: Celebrate National Crêpe Day!
A crêpe is a sort of a very thin pancake. They are usually one of two varieties: sweet crêpes (crêpes sucrées) or savoury galettes (crêpes salées), and what goes in them? Well, that’s the magic of crepes, because they can be just about anything, and they are often served with a wide variety of fillings such as cheese, fruit, vegetables, meats, and also a variety of delicious…

Geto Suguru (q&a official fanbook)
Tumblr media
"We will finally put an end to the age of apes and build the paradise of sorcerers."
Age: 27 years old
Birthday: 3 February
Level: special level black sorcerer
Enrolment modalities: scouting
Technique: manipulation of cursed spirits
Skills: extreme Vortex main technique (Maximum: Uzumaki); cursed spirit used: incarnation of Tamamo no Mae; rainbow dragon and others
Hobbies/special skills: martial arts
Favourite food: cold soba (zaru soba)*
Food he dislikes: none
Source of stress: ingestion of cursed spirits
*probable pun on the fact that zaru sounds similar to saru (monkey)
q&a about Geto
Q: How did your character come about?
A: I wanted to draw a guy with an extremist way of thinking.
Q: What is the origin of his name?
A: The ski resort of Geto Kogen.
Q: What did you pay particular attention to when drawing the character of Geto?
A: The tuft in front of him.
Q: Can the technique of manipulating cursed spirits reassemble or unite them?
A: It can, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to do so, because controlling the technique of powerful cursed spirits is more complicated, so it's better to focus on quantity rather than quality, such as in the extreme Vortex technique (Maximum: Uzumaki) which merges several spirits together to make a power attack.
Q: Does Geto know Ijichi?
A: Yes, but when Ijichi enrolled at the school Geto was already in the period when he felt exhausted, so I don't think they ever interacted.
Q: Did he really go to eat crêpes with Mimiko and Nanako in Takeshita-dōri (Takeshita Street)?
A: He only ate a couple of bites that the girls offered him. After dropping out of high school, Geto did everything he could to get food, clothes and shelter without having anything to do with those without powers. However, he did not force the other members of his family to do the same.
Q: Gojo is very popular among women, is Geto too?
A: Geto is even more popular.
Q: Does he know the characteristics of every single curse he has ingested?
A: Yes.
Q: How does he find powerful curses and vengeful spirits to use as pawns?
A: Kind of like on Suiyo Special*.
Q: Is the fact that he calls those without powers "monkeys" due to Toji Fushiguro's statement "Did you lose to a monkey like me who doesn't know how to use sorcery?"
A: Exactly! Only he was unconscious at the time, so let's say he absorbed the words in his sleep.
Q: After Toji's death, what did the cursed spirit say that he can store objects?
A: Probably "mother".
Q: Did his personality change from when he was a student to the time of the Demonic Procession (Night Parade of Hundred Demons)?
A: Quite a bit. Ever since he dropped out of school, he has done nothing but repeat to himself, "I hate the without powers."
Q: During the Shibuya incident, the fake Geto's hand moved on its own. How much of Geto's will remains?
A: Not much. It's like when a dragonfly keeps moving after having its head ripped off.
*Suiyo Spcial: famous television series aired from 1978 to 1988, each time featuring an expedition to little-explored places in search of mysterious creatures.
(little clarification: English is not my native language, so there may be some grammatical errors).

About Candlemas
Tumblr media
It's the middle point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. In French, there is a proverb: "A la chandeleur, l'hiver meurt ou reprend vigueur". " At Candlemas, winter dies or come back stronger". It's sure it will come back if, paradoxically, it's sunny on February the 2nd. If groundhogs see their shadows, you know...
Tumblr media
Or bears. Groundhog or bear tradition has pretty much died here, but for a while in Europe Candlemas was called "Bear day", as people watched if bears stopped their hibernation on this day.
Tumblr media
Crêpes tradition is ubiquitous there, because of an obvious symbolism (crêpes are round and golden like the sun). It certainly comes from pagan traditions, but reused after Christianity arrived.
Tumblr media
Candlemas is the day of Jesus presented at the temple, and mainly, the tradition was to come back from the church with a candle.
Tumblr media
Said candle brought protection, and was lit during storms, notably.
Tumblr media
And of course there are the Brigid crosses.
Tumblr media
And ta dah, this time I could make mine:

Crepes and pancakes
Tumblr media
In this Minigram, we see Muu eating a crepe cake, her favourite dessert!
Tumblr media
What it's funny, is that crepes are originating from France! Milgram really loves associating Muu with French desserts, the Galette de Rois being another example!
"The origin of crepe cake dates back to the early 20th century in France. It is believed that the famous French chef, Auguste Escoffier, created the first crepe cake in the early 1900s. The dish soon became popular throughout France and then spread to other parts of the world."
What do crepes symbolise?
"The round shape and golden colour of crêpes represent the sun and the return to the light.  From February, days also start to get longer and eating of crêpes also refers to the cycle of the seasons and the arrival of spring and brighter days."
Sun symbolises life and hope, while light means happiness and prosperity. Muu is eating a dessert that seems to give her life and cheerfulness. It's like is fueling her soul and gives her energy, hope for a better future. Considering what she has been through, she totaly deserves some peaceful and nice moments, such as eating a crepe!
Shidou and Mahiru, however, are giving Amane a pancake, more exactly Fuwa Fuwa a Japanese pancake!
Tumblr media
"Fuwa Fuwa is spreading happiness one fluffy pancake at a time. Traditionally served after weddings to symbolize good fortune, their light airy pancakes will brighten up your day. Fuwa Fuwa means “fluffy fluffy” in Japanese and that is the feeling you’ll get when having their pancakes."
Tumblr media
It's interesting that the wedding part is a reference for Shidou's family life, which, at first, was full of good fortune and peaceful moments, until the events from the MVs played...
Mahiru and Shidou want to give Amane a Fuwa Fuwa, so she can experience happy feelings, tenderness, love and affection when eating it.
It's sad that Amane doesn't accept these pancakes that can potentially give her these sentiments...
Considering her life before Milgram and how many difficulties she endured, Amane is not used with affection and tenderness, not even with proper love. Because she was taught to not indulge herself with sweet things, she declines the offer, an opportunity to add some sparkle in her life...

Although, I talk a lot here about the traditions of my paternal Czech ancestors, this year I’ve been feeling a pull towards my maternal Québécois ancestors.
On February 2, French Canadian Roman Catholics celebrate the Fête de la Chandeleur (Candlemas), honoring the day in the church calendar when Mary took the baby Jesus to the temple, by eating crêpes (thin pancakes). A traditional French Canadian proverb says "Manger des crêpes à la chandeleur apporte un an de bonheur" (Eating crêpes on Candlemas brings a year of happiness).
Eating crêpes on February 2nd also has its origins in pagan festivals. At the time, Candlemas referred to the fertility of the earth. The peasants had thus made it a habit to cook pancakes with excess flour from last year. With their round shape and golden color, pancakes symbolized the light, sun, and therefore the return of sunny days. Superstitious, they even imagined a game to bring prosperity: to blow the first pancake with the right hand with a gold coin in the left hand.
Although often overshadowed by Groundhog Day in the media, Candlemas is still celebrated in regions with strong French traditions, such as Quebec, Acadia, Louisiana, the Mississippi Valley and Maine.

・❥・ North ˗ˏˋ꒰ ❄️ ꒱
Moodboard: Made by me
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What North Looks like:
Tumblr media
Credit: Guinevere Sophie
North is into formality, she looks like her lips are like a kiss of frost bite, with the color a lavender blue tinge. Her eyes were like sapphires that shine the brightest blue but would change to black, to whiteish, and pale gray. Her skin looks almost whiteish blue, possible cracking with looks of blue or gold. Her cheeks look wind whipped, but it looks like she felt nothing from it. It's very cold when North touches you, very much like a death kissed touch or when there is a sharpness to a harsh breeze - Moonlight
Tumblr media
Palace, Residence:
North wants to have her palace remain slightly vague, and private. So the energy of her kingdom is cold, it's very ornate. Beautiful landscape, and buildings. Imagine gothic architecture in snow, and ice. Seemingly cold and empty, but there are traces of life and beauty hidden.
She does ask for her privacy to be respected, she allows people to see her Palace when she sees fit. Once invited, and given consent to see then it's okay. Please be respectful of the wishes of the deities.
Tumblr media
Ruling, Domain:
North rules over protection, sleep, death, healing, transformation, discipline, responsibility, some aspects of spirituality, resourcefulness, justice (in terms of death)
Still respecting her wishes to not detail her domain.
Tumblr media
Correspondences:
Days of the Week:
Monday - connections with the moon, however Monday sets the tone for the week. Can either flow positive, or negative. It can be about getting clear with emotions, or having the day being about your emotional state
Saturday - the day of Saturn, aka responsibility, life lessons, and getting organized. Devotional acts on Saturday for North could be getting caught up on work, chores etc, and organizing and cleaning your space. Get balanced and grounded as well for devotional activities and offerings. “I prefer more organized and clean rooms than messy ones, and by organized I mean organized in a way for you.” After all that work is done though, relax and destress as needed.
Special Days:
1, 11, 4 - so the first of every month, the 4th of the colder/winter months (December, January, February, possibly March - for northern hemisphere opposite for western hemisphere). The 11th of January in specifics.
I can’t find anything special about the 11th of January; I assume it’s a special day because it’s particularly cold. I’m getting the vibes of there being a celebration, or a holiday in the Fellowship specifically for North. On this day North is celebrated, winter/cold is seen with appreciation and beauty. Certain foods are prepared and ate throughout the festival, it’s distinctively different than Yule however has some underlying themes of the Winter Solstice, Yule etc etc. Very french like vibes, a lot of the food are french dishes (or inspired by), not all but most. There is typically some sort of music playing, ice statues, there are shimmering lights throughout the palace and the courtyard.
Foods: Warmer foods, seeing this as being more of a dinner, pot roast, warm vegetables, apples, fried apples with cinnamon (desert possibly?), honey on warm bread, crêpes, waffles, french cullers, soups, pan d’Épices
Drinks: Mulled cider, warm wine, milk, coffee, milk tea
Elements:
Air, Water
Numbers:
1, 11, 4
1 - the start of something, spend more time thinking about your actions and create more solidified plan before moving onward; number of thoughts in the air but not materialized yet. New beginnings, new ideas, starting to plan, stability, structure, trust in what will happen, self and figuring identity out
11 - It’s technically a 2 when reduced in numerology, but it’s also a master number in numerology. Double what number 1 represents
4 - means something is complete, or it needs to become complete, joining numbers together to create some form of wholeness. Completion/coming to completion, connection, corrections, order (from my notes, apply your own meaning for the numbers if you see fit)
Colors:
Cold colors, on the lighter spectrum. Deep dark and vibrant blues, a plum color
Planet:
Saturn, Neptune
Saturn - taskmaster of the zodiac, commanding us to get our work done and to work hard. Discipline and responsibility are important. Saturn makes us look at time, and asks us the questions of ïs there time for everything we want to do, or are there limits”. Managing the limitations that we find, and working through and around restrictions are important. Saturn also symbolizes old age in the aspect of life lessons. Structure, order, and the way in which we conduct our affairs and personal relationships (not just romantic) are all ruled by Saturn.
Neptune - Interesting enough Neptune is more fluid, and less rigid than Saturn is. I think this shows the duality that North is, and what they embody. In order to be somewhat fluid there has to be structure; and with being rigid there has to be fluid movement. It’s just like ice, and water. Ice can become water, and water can become ice. Neptune is about changing, and illusions, abstract thoughts and mysteries. Spirituality is something also ruled by Neptune. Using this neptunic energy can be useful in meditations to gain insights. Anything artistic is something that can be ruled by this planet; poetry, music, dance, glamor as well. Neptune is mysterious in the way that on the outside it’s enchanting and elusive on the inside it’s captivating but much deeper than what others might assume about it. The darker side of this planet looks into escapism, and delusions. Do you face the reality of life, or do you escape from it or do you find the balance that is needed.
Saturn and Neptune are opposites of each other, but they need each other for balance and harmony. If Saturn is the physical world, and Neptune is the metaphysical world than together you can create your dreams in reality and ground them, or you can be lost in delusions or lost in stress of physical materials not being enough.
Zodiac Signs:

Epithets:
Noble North - focuses on her personal qualities as a leader. North can be blunt at times, but they are honest. This epithet of them focuses on righteousness, honesty, generosity, and being a just leader.
The Statue - this epithet is focusing on outward appearances of looking cold on the outside, and unreadable, mysterious
Her Majesty - highlights her in a royal light, focuses on her responsibility, discipline
The Tender-Hearted one - connects with the side of her that they don’t show often, more outwardly caring, nice, parental like, protective but in a gentle way
Bringer of Death - her death epithet, otherwise known as “the soul taker”, this epithet solely focuses on her responsibilities of death, and navigating justice, fairness, and reality within it. The overall view of death, and how it affects everyone
Bringer of Life - the life epithet, focuses on her healing, sometimes fertility, and good health during and after birth, is also seen as the bringer of life when the winter lets spring come in.
The one who gives, and the one who takes - combines the ideas of Bringer of Death, and Bringer of Light together. It’s the balanced epithet of these two, also looks into transformation as life ends with death and the cycle goes on
Lady of Glass - Glass is referred to in two ways in this context; someone you can look through since of their honesty, and the stoic expression on their face.

Offering and Devotional Acts:
Listening to Music: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4RoZIoct4v0mzhRzaZ7Ymh
I find that she loves the Nutcracker a lot
Cleaning your room in their name, or with specific intent
Honoring her special days, and doing rituals with her, or in her name
Locating the North Star at night, and any other constellation you find (this aligns more with West though)
Wearing colder colors, hues of blue; or veiling your hair in these colors
Making to-do lists, and sticking to them
Creating vision, dream boards and then making steps to bring them into reality
Taking ice baths, or at least offering cold/ice water in a cup for North
Raising awareness for animals in colder climates that are losing their habitat from global warming, climate change
Donate to homeless shelters, especially when it starts to get colder
Offering apples cut into two (so the 5 pointed star on each side is visible), or offering an apple (or a part of an apple); then either consuming it after the offering is accepted and North allows you to, or giving it to Earth or an animal (that can safely eat the apple!).
Going apple picking
Making a simmer pot with some of her plants included (star anise, apples, cinnamon etc etc)
Growing some plants that can survive winter in your area, make sure you research what plants can survive colder weather as well.
Diffuse some of the scents she likes in a diffuser if you have one
Dedicate some crystals in her name, and wear them on your person or carry them in a bag
Make a satchel for protection, focus, clarity, and other intentions relating back to her
Try and get some deep, restful sleep with her aid if needed
Become comfortable with the idea of death
Have moments of meditation, and introspection about death and your beliefs surrounding death
Have moments to appreciate the cycle of life and death, appreciate how far you’ve gotten
Find beauty, and joy in the start of new things (cycles); easiest way to do this is to plant an herb from seed and nurture it from seed to sapling.
Perform magic for self-healing, or healing on others if they allow it
Research anatomy + physiology, medicine, maybe herbology with a focus on healing properties (do not substitute herbs with medication, or other medical needs and such)
Allow yourself to become more comfortable with responsibility
Create a schedule (based on your needs etc) and stick with it as much as possible, exercise discipline when needed
Research death work, spirit work, and familiar work
Mediate, and do some shadow work when needed
Devote time to yourself in her name, if it’s relaxing and maybe under her ruling and domain
Learn how to crochet, or knit! so you can make yourself some warm items
Look at photos of snow, snowy photography
Burn winter scented candles, or any other warm scent
In the winter, colder days:
Bundle up, and stay warm
Make hot chocolate, and other warm beverages: tea, mulled cider, mulled wine (only drink if you are of age!)
Make soup, or comfort foods that will bring a sense of relief into your life
Make snowpeople
Have snowball fights
Watch as the snow falls
Learn, try, or attempt figure skating or hockey (it doesn’t have to be turns and spins and complicated work, just getting on the ice is a really good start)
In colder months go outside, by a window and appreciate nature’s beauty
Make paper snowflakes
Go sledding
Food: Fried apples, apples, soup, crêpes
Altar Suggestions:
Cloth - white, silver, blue, purple
Bones - ethically sourced, better if they are animals that are associated with her
Oddities with relation to death, life, winter
Athame (knife)
Have the altar be facing north
Candles with herbs associated with them
Maybe try and keep a small cup/bowl with snow and keep the water that remains after it melts
Holly, other winter related flora
Pressed, or dead flowers
Apple peels
Crystals
Paper snowflakes
Snow Globe
Christmas lights
Items foraged in the winter
Offering dish - preferred to be made out of wood, but anything works
Terrariums - possibly get graveyard dirt (with permission, be super respectful follow graveyard and death work etiquette)
Artwork that you make of her, or something with her in mind
If your work also surrounds ancestors, grief practices maybe placing photographs of deceased people/pets on your altar might be a good idea as well

That is all the documented information that we have on North

The best day of the French calendar
Next week, on the 2nd of February, France will be celebrating the best (in my humble opinion) day ever : La Chandeleur
On this blessed day, we eat Crêpes.
"Americans often spend February 2 huddled in the cold waiting for a groundhog to emerge from the earth, but the French have a much more fun way to spend the day. Every year on February 2, France observes La Chandeleur, a.k.a. Candlemas, a.k.a. a day dedicated to eating crêpes. The Catholic religious holiday is exactly 40 days after Christmas, but it also has origins in an older pre-Christian holiday celebrating the harvest and marking the midway point of winter. As a result, the current La Chandeleur is a mix of both of these traditions, which eventually evolved into a day revolving around the crêpe—the round shape represents the sun and the circle of life, while the act of eating and sharing with others commemorates a historical tradition of popes giving food out to the poor every year on February 2." [SOURCE : X]
Depending on your family, you can have one meal with crêpes or multiple. But you have to make them yourself ! Crêpes are really easy to prepare and the ingredients required are (usually) quite cheap.
[ There are different recipes to make crêpes. It's like UNO, each family has its own rules]
Tumblr media
You can eat it with everything !
In my family, we'll have :
- (a few) crêpes with du jambon (ham), un oeuf au plat (fried egg), de la béchamel, and for the misunderstood self proclaimed culinary genius you could also add ketchup (but I would not brag about eating crêpes with ketchup in public if I were you)
and for dessert :
- (a few) crêpes with du sucre en poudre (powdered sugar) / sucre glace (icing sugar, the best sugar ever) / un peu de sucre et un peu de citron (a little bit of sugar and a little bit of lemon juice) / de la confiture (jam) / du nutella (this is a really important day for Nutella in France, they even have ads especially made for La Chandeleur) / miel (honey) / caramel....
In my family, we each have to flip one crêpe in the pan while holding a little golden coin to bring us luck for the new year !
Tumblr media
PS : Nutella is masculine in French.
Tu peux me passer le nutella s'il te plait ? // Can you pass the nutella please ?

11) favorite folklore trivia, please.
Thanks for asking :)
I'd say my favourite is not necessarily related to fairy tales, but to traditions and food.
In Russia, every 1st of March, they celebrate Maslenitsa, which is a big party to commemorate the end of Winter (in Russia, seasons begin and end on the 1st, not the 21st of the month) and welcome Spring. A classic story that has similar traditions and parties all over the world.
They do many things but there are two that I like: 1) they make bliny, crêpes. Lots of bliny for sharing with everyone, even in the street, and there is still snow and all, but they also do dances and games. Often people dress in traditional costumes or with other different apparels, not necessarily dressed up.
And 2) they burn the tchutchela, which is like a big straw doll where people write their wishes for the next year and to get rid of other things, that kind of thing. They put it there, and then they burn the tchutchela.
As I said, this has similarities with other Bye Winter-Hi Spring traditions. And Spain is one of them. We have Carnaval.
Carnaval usually involves getting dressed up and singing and celebrating. It takes place in February 40 days before Easter so the date changes every year but it's about the same thing. You may have seen images from Rio de Janeiro or Mardi Gras or even the Canary Islands, some of the most famous Carnaval-related events of the world. That is what everyone knows and every country gives its own take.
But in Spain, it also involves 2 things. One that is lost mainly, and another one that stays mainly for children celebrations. The one that is lost and not many people remember is "frisuelos de carnaval", or crêpes made specifically in this time. The one that survives is "El entierro de la Sardina" (the burial of the sardine). Without getting into too much detail, it involves writing wishes and other small letters and putting them inside a giant paper made Sardine that will be paraded and cried over around and will end up being burnt, just like the tchutchela.
So this may be obvious to many, as I said many countries and places have similar traditions and it is all Europe after all, but it was a surprise to me the first time I got to experience Maslenitsa in a big festival and it brought me all the way back to my childhood in Spain.
