lee oathofkaslana, i was wondering if you have any advice for getting into hi3, especially in regards to digging into the lore. i’ve been following along with your hi3 posts for literal months and i get more intrigued each time you discuss it so i finally decided to just go for it. i know theres the game/webtoon/animated shorts/cooking with valks but i’m not totally sure about how to go about approaching all of it and the more obscure elements (like the other games with the hi3 characters) because i don’t want to miss out on anything. is there a certain order of approach that you suggest? also, are there any resources that may help with taking it all in, like explaining the basics and the timeline or something like that? there’s no pressure to answer right away, i’m sure you might want time to compile your thoughts, i just trust your judgement on how to get into hi3 over trying to figure it out myself based on how knowledgeable you appear to be about everything.

reading lists! ok this is the most important thing so its going first. hi3's comics are a lot more important to the plot than like. genshin's. and its kinda annoying bc in some cases you'll be guided from going between chapters of the game to a comic and vice versa. i highly recommend checking out both of these reading lists: hoyostans reading guide (start from part 1 phase 1) archives wiki hi3 reading list the seconds a lot easier to follow imo! especially with the earlier ones. i personally prefer primarily using the second one and then consulting the first to see if there's any extra content that's missing (since some ggz/retconned hi3 comics are linked there and provide some context! the first one also has some very helpful notes from the OP!) i DO think that reading the comics in the order listed on the archives wiki and then starting chapter one is best. it might feel like a dip in story telling though but i promise it will get a lot btter once theyre a lot more stable w their game development and writing :)

other content: comics: ok first i have to put a warning. escape from nagazora is from ggz iirc and like. early ggz and early hi3 humor kinda sucks ass. there's awful sexualization of underaged girls and its weird about women and this is where a lot of the fetishization comes in. they're also not normal about consent here. also another warning about azure waters. it heavily references CSA and has an almost rape scene and i completely hated the way it was all visually portrayed. if needed I will gladly summarize these comics for you without any of those details. this aside, the comics are included in the reading guides! there are also non-canonical ones though! (4komas featured on the manga site and 4komas from the jp twitter! theres a google drive linked in the other post w fan translations. they're comedic and not at all canonical but they may spoil things since its run coincides with the game's progress so i dont really recommend reading them until you're farther along. atm i am just starting part 1.5 and ive read most of it, but i am intentionally avoiding newer ones just by looking at what design is in the thumbnail. they're very quick to read though dw!) animated shorts -> they are included in the game :) if you would prefer watching them in chinese, i'm afraid you'll have to look at it on youtube though :' for some reason on the western servers all the CG's in the first part are in japanese even if you switch your language to chinese. chronicles -> they're included in both the reading guides! theres some that aren't very lore relevant (dreams of gemima and kallen chronicles) but they're a fine source of weapons and crystals (hi3 equiv of primos) part 2 -> i haven't started it yet but from what i've seen, it's recommended that you finish part 1 before this. open-world -> again, follow the reading order for these :) the only exception is APHO because that takes place in the future (after part 1.5). i haven't finished it and i personally don’t plan to until after i do 1.5 in case there's any important spoilers! there are major hints that kinda spoil the end of part 1 though. <- same with the alien space comic. it takes place. sometime after APHO i think. other universe events -> primarily captainverse. obv these take place in a different universe! these characters are not the same as the main characters. iirc the only one that's really lore-relevant is honkai salvation log (it comes later in the game and later in the hoyostans reading guide!!) donghua: cooking with valks: not canonical content. season 1 is pretty safe but it is best watched after chapter 12 to get full context for some references! honestly you could probably get by with watching the rest of the series after imo but if you'd prefer to play it safe, the hoyostans guide includes it :) golden courtyard: do not watch this one until you finish chapter 31. journey crisis: do not watch this until you finish part 1.5 ggz/hg2: honestly. you don't need to know ggz for hi3. you would benefit from knowing the retrospective timeline's history for the main trio but from there on, ggz and hi3 follow completely different stories with different characters. honestly you could go by without knowing the main trio's history in retro i think its already explained enough in the main story and other media.

links. youtube: homulabs -> has cohesive lore videos that help a lot (esp later on)! also has some hsr stuff if you're interested :) hide's honkai archives -> playthroughs of all of part 1 completely in chinese (including cut scenes). also fixes up some of the translations since i believe the eng translations are translated from the jp dub! i mostly use this to both rewatch chapters when i need background noise and look at cutscenes with OP's translations. i find it interesting.. official hi3 youtube visual novels: again, look at the reading guides. im pretty sure think some of those links on both guides are wonky though so ill provide them here. ae visual novel (eng) shattered swords/7 swords visual novel (eng) durandal visual novel (eng) i also have a larger post with various links here build/combat: ok this is my weakspot. marisa honkai -> kind of unfortunate backbone of the hi3 community. allegedly kicked someone from his discord server for saying kiana is a lesbian. but his infographics are useful! he also has a youtube but i can't vet how his videos are o7 <- lore player and very obvious about it elysian realm shallow sequence -> in case you're ever struggling w this part. dont worry about it early game though you'll get to it in time. honestly its optional though so.

quick tips/loose info:

the wikis will be your best friend.

do the character trials!! they teach you how to use any of the characters and you can open them whenever you want! if the battlesuit is new, you will also get rewards if you do the trial in time :)

honkai has an absurd amount of currencies for some fucking reason. this is more of a warning than a tip.

ok imo hi3 combat is super super fun but my god the powercreep sucks asssssssss. i hate the process of building characters because you have to pull for characters signature gear and that equipment banner's pity doesnt carry over it fucking sucks.

BUT don't worry too much honestly if you are just playing for the story like i am it doesn't matter too much since you don't need to use your own valkyries for much (story wise). do at least build some though even to a minor degree (you will need them for chronicles)

speaking of gacha though! there's no 50/50 to worry about in honkai!

don't go into the chat for room 1 its fucking scary and full of weirdos (derogatory) and assholes. first and last time i went there i saw homophobes.

Basic info under the cut

Leo: the oldest, and a very big dork. Tries his best to be serious and responsible, and live up to Splinter’s expectations…but sometimes a kid just needs to read comics and cosplay his favourite hero from ‘Satellite Strike’. He loves encouraging and supporting his brothers (when they’re not being a pain in the shell).

Mikey: youngest, tied with Donnie. Super energetic and quite the goofball, but he’s always there for his brothers when he needs to be. Super creative and the life of the party, he encourages the others to let loose and have fun. Doesn’t like being alone, worries he’s being annoying a lot.

Donnie: also youngest tied with Mikey. Full of anxiety, but can be very mischievous and feral when he wants to be (Mikey typically encourages this.) extremely smart, but typically downplays his abilities.

Raph: second oldest. I based him around ‘87 Raph, so he’s less violent and more snarky/rude when he’s angry- he’s a big softy even if he wouldn’t admit it, being very protective of his brothers, especially Donnie.

Donnie and Mikey are non-identical twins! Having said that Donnie and Raph are SUPER close to eachother- the two of them were both captured by kraang when they were younger for experimentation. Raph got his scars from saving Donnie- and Donnie wears overalls now to hide his mostly damaged Plastron, thanks to some not-very-ethical surgeries.

Leo and Raph don’t butt heads as often as some of their other versions, but when they do it gets very heated very quickly.

In the earlier days, Splinter had higher, harsher expectations for them, Leo specifically, as he was the oldest. Splinter has only mutated recently, and wasn’t in a good place. He figured the best thing to do was train them as quick as he could, to protect themselves. He was often distant and harsh. Leo began to struggle with his self image, and isolated himself from his brothers, which caused the dynamic to grow tense and uncomfortable. Mikey suffered from this a lot, and still has attachment issues to this day.

As they got older Splinter realized what he was doing and who he was hurting, and him and the turtles worked on fixing their relationship. (Splinter takes online therapy every Wednesday, under a fake account that Donnie helped set up.)

Later on in this story (like- nearish future) Leo gains the Classic Knee Injury TM and it doesn’t heal properly, so he has to learn to fight differently, and to rely on his brothers for help every now and then. (But he’s still the most skilled ninja master around fr)

The most obviously answer would of course be bluebells, but uhhhh. Im going to be a little self indulgent for a minute, and give her my favorite flower!

Bluebelle’s favorite flower is Datura.

Also called jimsonweed, devils trumpets, or moonflowers. I don’t have any particular rhyme or reason, other than the fact that I am ✨obsessed✨ with this flower. I could talk about them forever, and I’m pretty sure I’ve already mentioned them in an ask before.

And the fact that @/margo-mania did a really pretty piece with Bluebelle and datura flowers a while back (I’ll just put it under the cut lol :)

If you want a symbolism flower though, if you’re like me, and am/are cautiously pretentious <3 then bluebell is your best bet, as it means mostly humility and constancy, but more importantly, sorrowful regret. Which is very Bluebelle I feel.

1: My fav episode so far is definitely 3 (though 4 is closeish behind) - it allows a ton of replay value with all the hangouts - all of which are so well done and give good insight into characters (and are unique depending on your relationship with them) and the haunt is deeply intriguing and scary and the dilemma feels more complex and emotional for me. Also trait save is cool lmao. All things in particular I love about the game are in 3 basically.

2: hmm this is hard. Maybe 1? I think it’s a good establishment for the game but it does feel lacking in replay value compared to even 2 - it’s got very good horror though but I do wish there were more panicking options lol idk. I also think some characters are better established in 2 as you see more of their hidden depths. I don’t hate it but compared to 3 and 4 and even 2’s replay value it’s more underwhelming as you don’t fully see the consequences until later episodes understandably.

15: I like the theory that the goat sacrifice is meant to be about the towns curse/a way to somehow prolong the town, the Wayne and entity theories (either he’s the same species or is the entity), MC being special as an heir or sacrifice (even if Tabitha doesn’t know it), but overall I’d say the Stickiness theory is my favourite and the one I believe in the most (curse that traps people in town). Also that TTA is church and SS is farm. I also believe that Sybil has a well intentioned goal even if she’s going about it in a controlling and brutal way considering what she does to her family (tbh I wonder if she killed her husband or at least knew he’d die?) and the Kelly’s and Scarlets.

20: my favourite achievement… I like Tabitha’s smile one it’s ridiculous. Other than that maybe the one where you keep turning instead of opening the door in the haunt? Funny. More seriously I enjoyed the one of choosing all mystical dialogue in the haunt (was cool) and the “illusion of choice” for the drama. Also any Dustin achievement is a good one.

Hello! I have some questions about the Stone Blue AU:

Does Chris look 'normal' in the afterlife? Like does he look like he did before he died? Or does he look like a ghost\spirit; or does he still have the wounds from his death?

Yes, I would say that Chris looks normal in his afterlife! He doesn't sustain any of his injuries or carry any wounds from his death until he's brought back to life, at which point he's left with a large scar where he had gotten impaled by a stalactite shortly before passing. In his afterlife, he looks pretty much exactly as he did when he was alive, not ghostly or see-through, or really anything of the sort.

In this universe, after dying, as stated in a separate post, a person will go to an afterlife specifically tailored to them and their interests in life to help give them a proper resting place to spend the rest of their eternity. They aren't really able to interact with other people unless they were particularly close with them in life, at which point their afterlives will become connected, and they will be able to visit each other whenever they'd like.

No other people to interact with until sometime in the distant future when his brother or friends finally kick the bucket means that he's gonna be completely alone for a long time. And no living people to look much more dead than since he's not really acting as a ghost in this au either, so there probably wouldn't be much reason for him or any other dead person to look all ghostly when there's no one else there to cause him to notice the difference.

15. What’s your favorite season? 

Spring! The tempature's perfect, everything's always so green, we get some of the BEST thunderstorms where we live (and it's always really windy, which is an added bonus, I love the wind), it's when all the baby cows are born so whenever we drive somewhere we get to see all the little calves out in the fields, and I always have more energy in the Spring! (Apparently there's this weird phenomenon for POTS patients where our symptoms get overall worse in the fall/winter, so I always feel better in the spring).

Anyways yeah, I love Spring

21. How was your day today? 

Honestly? Not the best. I didn't really get enough sleep last night so I've had a headache most of the day, and I've just been really tired this whole week. Also writing & arting & storying in general has Not been cooperating (probably because my brain is tired) so yeah. BUT! Hopefully the weekend will be better :D I've got plans to go see the new spider-verse movie with my friend on Saturday, so I'm really excited for that!

And yknow? Most days are meh for me. I've got a chronic illness that sucks and I'm running on Not Enough Energy pretty much all the time. But I've learned to appreciate the small moments, and that helps a lot. 'Cuz even if most days are just meh (or worse) there's still a lot of good moments in them that more than makes up for it. So even tho physically I've been kinda miserable all day, I'm happy. I got to binge some rottmnt with my brother (soon I will introduce him to my aus >:), I played some minecraft, I listened to music, I played with my cat, I read some good fanfic, I'm messing around on tumblr at 3am

So really, looking back on the emotional aspects of today? It's actually been a good day. Maybe not an amazing, or memorable, or significant day. But still a good one, and that's enough.

40. Do you like the beach? Do you prefer it sunny or cloudy? 

I love the beach!!! So much. It's one of my favorite places. One of my favorite things about it is being able to see forever. And, hmmmm it'd probably depends on if I wanna go swimming or not. Actually, I'd still go swimming if it was cloudy (and have actually) as long as it's not too cold. So really I don't have much of a preference? If I'm at the beach at all I'll be happy. I like when it's clear so I can see forever tho, but I also like I when it's cloudy and rainy in general, so.
