Tumblr media
It's just past sundown as black boots hit the ground with purpose.
A blonde woman in a white tank, black jeans, and a leather jacket moves through the small town until she reaches the street with the bar she's been looking for.
She pulls open the door and (Drumroll)...
Carol Danvers walks into a bar.
Jokes aside. You look up from your place behind said bar and watch the blonde scan her blue eyes across the other patrons until she lands on you. For a very brief moment, you feel small as her gaze lingers on you until she starts to come closer. "I need a name." The taller-than-you than you blonde says in a tone that drips with authority. You smile at her voice and decide that she can't be that bad.
Right?
"Ya know... Most people order first." You slide a drink menu in front of her that she doesn't even look at. "I'm looking for someone." She looks at you, and you can tell she's not messing around.
You sigh.
"Promise to order something if I help you?" You ask, making her smirk before nodding. "Okay, take a seat." You gesture to a bar stool that she slides into. "I'm looking for a woman." This makes you smile and laugh. "Aren't we all?" The blonde tilts her head. "I'm serious."
"Me too." You crack a smile and get nothing in return. You sigh again and lean down on the bar. "What does she look like?"
The blonde thinks before opening her mouth. "She's taller than me. Black hair. Blue eyes. Not like mine. She's... tough-minded. By the book. To a fault sometimes." The blonde chuckles a bit, surprising you.
You lean up and grab a rag as silence falls between you and the woman across the counter. "Know her?" She asks. You shake your head. "Sounds like a tough girlfriend, though." You slyly add. "Oh, she's not my girlfriend!" The blonde says matter-of-factly and a little too loud.
"Okay. Sure." Your voice goes a little high to let her know that you don't believe her. "What can I get you to drink?"
"So you don't know her?" You shake your head and lift up the drink menu. "No. I don't know your girlfriend. Order."
The blonde rolls her eyes at you. "Like I said, she's not my girlfriend."
"Okay..." You say before you open and close your mouth because what you want to say is, "okay so who is your girlfriend!" But that's too much, and she's not even looking at you now. Her blue eyes are darting across the drink menu.
"I'll take this one." She points to a cocktail of your own creation. "Coming right up." You smile and gently take the menu from her hand before getting to work. The blonde watches you intensely. But not long. She looks away when you look up at her after finding the correct bottle of mix.
"Can I get a name?" You ask as you start to shake the liquids around in a cup. "Yeah, her name is Mari-"
"No, no, no. Your name." The blonde closes her mouth. "I want your name." You smiled as the woman across from you was surprised by your interruption.
"It's Carol. Carol Danvers." She says.
You lay out a napkin and place a glass onto it before filling it with her blue cocktail. "It's Carol. Carol Danvers." You repeated as she watched your face concentrate on pouring the drink. "What about you?"
You easily give her your name before going to ring up her drink, but stopping. You turn back to blonde just as she puts the blue drink to her lips. She takes a sip and tries her best to hide the grimace on her face.
She fails, though, when her eyes meet yours.
"I'm sorry." She says while you laugh. "It's okay. I figured.." It hurts you a little bit, considering this drink was your idea to put on the menu. You go to take it back, but she stops you. "I don't hate it."
"Ah, yes, because people love drinks that they don't consume." You reply with a wink. Carol smiles at you, and you feel your body quickly get warm. She has an incredible smile.
"How about... a bourbon." She states.
"Of course." Youthink as you toss the blue drink while fixing her what she really wants. "You could've ordered this before."
"Yeah, but I thought if I ordered something special, you'd help me find Maria Hill." Her face gets serious as she waits for you to react to the name.
But you don't budge.
It's almost as if you don't know who she's talking about.
Almost.
"Ah, the not girlfriend." You say, making Carol sigh. "She's not my girlfriend. She's not even my type." She answers as she gets flustered when she sees your smile. "That's besides the point! I need her to lead me to someone!"
Your smile turns into a smirk, and Carol sees it. You look Carol up and down. "And who might that be?" You ask, only earning a half-playful squint of the eyes. "Why should I tell you?" You shrug. "You don't have to. But maybe just because I don't know this Maria person, maybe I know their boss."
"Trust me, if you don't know Maria, then you don't know who's above them."
You nod your head, agreeing. "Alright. Fine." You stop and take a quick look around. The rest of the patrons still around. "Can I ask you something?" Carol lifts her face up to look at you before leaning forward, grabbing the bourbon glass again, finishing it off. "Sure."
"What makes you think I don't know Nick Fury?"
What you just said makes Carol stop. The softness she's been letting slip rightens itself. You watched her furrow her brows and clench her jaw.
"Who are you?"
You ignore Carol's question and cup your hands to make your voice louder. "Alright! The bar is now closed! Don't worry about your tabs! I have a family emergency, so if you could please leave that'd be great! Thank you!"
The handful of patrons look at one another before groaning that they must leave but are happy that they don't have to pay.
Carol keeps her face stern and eyes on you as you watch the people file out.
"Take care." You pat the back of an older gentleman as he leaves. You close the door and lock it up before cautiously returning behind the bar. You feel like prey with the way Carol watches you.
A tired sigh leaves you as you lean back against the counter. Carol rises from her seat. "Who are you?" She clenches her fist and starts to tilt her head. "I won't ask again."
"Carol, let's not do this." You say, lifting a hand as if it were a white flag. "Then you better start talking." Her fist begins to glow as she grits her teeth. "How do you know Nick Fury?"
"Come on, Carol." You laugh and grab a cold beer from behind the bar. It's not your typical drink choice, but it looks pretty cool to drink if you're trying not to seem intimidated. "Who doesn't know the man with the patch." You put a hand over your left eye to boost your point. "I mean, he's a legend, is he not?"
Carol lowers her fist as you keep your calm demeanor. You walk around the back of the bar and to the half door, swinging it open to enter the common area.
You and Carol are now on the same side. She keeps a watchful eye on you as you walk closer and closer. Beer still in hand. "The man who founded a team of heroes all those years back." Carol backs away while still remaining stern as you sit down at the bar stool next to her. "Nick Fury." You sigh and look Carol in her eyes. "The man who said he would help us after you left." Your voice cracks when the you leaves your mouth.
Carols face falters.
"You're a Skrull.."
You nod your head and look away from Carol Danvers—the Captain Marvel. You scoffed as you thought about it. "So good luck finding him." You take a sip of the gold liquid and do your best not to react to the taste. "I sure as hell haven't heard from him since the blip... or even before."
Carol just watches you deflate your body as the words pour out of you. She didn't know what to expect when she walked into this bar, but a Skrull wasn't one of them. And in a matter of minutes, she went from being flirty to angry to feeling sorry with a good mix of guilt.
She did leave.
She helped others find homes out in the cosmos, including a smaller colony of Skrulls. But the ones here on Earth... She never came back for.
She could make excuses about why she didn't, whether it be because of one Lieutenant Trouble or the fact that she was scared to let people down. Regardless, she put her focus elsewhere and only returned to Earth when it was absolutely necessary.
Like today.
Which led her to you.
Carol looks over you again, and you can feel her eyes on you, but you don't make a remark about it. Instead, you let her look over your favorite pair of Vans, high-waisted jeans, and green flannel. Her eyes scan themselves down your rolled-up sleeves and to your hands. The veins going down to your fingers.
She watches as your right handle fiddles with the silver ring hanging from your neck.
It was the first real thing you ever bought for yourself.
Carol looks up and takes note of your features. From your scarlet lips to your eyes. She loves the way your hair flows down.
She would be lying if she said she didn't find you attractive. Carol did.
But to Carol, this wasn't your actual body. Right?
But to you, it was.
You've spent more time in this human disguise than your own Skrull form.
As strange as it is to some. You love it.
"Are you done?" You ask as you turn back to look at Carol. "I get it, but you can stop." You go to take another sip of your beer, but Carol takes it from your hand and sets it down away from you, making you look at her. "You said you haven't heard from Fury even before the blip. What do you mean?"
You look at Carol as if she's joking, but you can tell by the look of determination in her eyes that she has no idea. "You really don't know." You say not knowing whether you should be hurt or happy that Carol Danvers doesn't know about the way Nick Fury used Skrulls for his battles. "Just like you, he left us. Abandoned us. Threw us to the sides when wars from invaders above could be won with humans."
Carol can tell how much this has affected you. It clearly hurts to talk about, but you don't look like a soldier or talk like one.
But that's when it clicks.
"You lost someone?" Carol softens in the bar stool next to you and even makes the cautious effort to place her hand on your arm.
"I lost everyone." You sneer back but don't remove your arm from her hold. You look into her blue eyes, and Carol sees how the sadness is threatening to spill out. Without meaning to, Carol gently rubs her hand up and down your arm. It brings you comfort, and in this moment, you once again take in the beauty that is The Captain Marvel.
"I'm sorry." She says to you, making you look back from her lips to her eyes. "I'm sorry for your loss. I know these words don't do much, but you shouldn't have had to fight Fury's battles."
And just like that, a sincere apology and moment makes you sour.
Carol stops the movement of her hand as she can sense the tension coming off of you. "Well, it's not like you were around." You pull your arm away from her and get up. "Hey!" Carol gets up and follows you as you begin walking towards the back of the bar.
"That's not fair!" Carol counters as you pass your manager office to the bar before stopping at the set of wooden stairs leading up to your place. "Fair!?" You stop to question before turning around.
"You left!" You yell at the blonde, who doesn't back down. "You fucking left, and you want to talk to me about fair? I watched my parents die! I watched my brothers and sister become toys in a game that I never wanted to play! So don't talk to me about fair when you don't understand!"
Carol is quiet. She holds up her hands and takes small steps towards you. The closer she gets, the more she sees how the tears are beginning to fall. "I'm sorry. You're right." Carol says. "I don't understand." She puts her arms by her side as she stands right before you. "Help me. Help me understand." Carol looks deeply into your eyes.
You swallow the lump in your throat and hold one of your hands out as the other wipes your face. "Okay. Come on." You say through your broken voice. Trusting her.
The guilt lingers in Carols' mind as she takes your hand.
Little did you or Carol know how the touch of your hand lit the fuse. Fingers wrapped around one another before you led her upstairs to your place.
Your home.
You two are quiet as you open the door. Carol quickly surveys the open floor plan of your apartment. Modest is the word she would use.
It wasn't much, but it was home.
When you kicked the door shut, you gingerly removed your hand from Carols. "It seems kinda redundant, but would you like a drink?" You make your way towards the fridge in your kitchen. Conveniently placed to the left of the front door. "Whatever you grab is fine." You didn't acknowledge Carols answer; instead, you opened the fridge door and grabbed whatever two hard seltzers were waiting for you.
You turned around and placed them onto your cheap dining room table and waited for Carol to approach. She still stood at the door, taking it all in. She wouldn't lie. The more she looked around, the more she got it—an inside look into what makes you, you.
But eventually, Carols' eyes landed to you sitting at the table. And with a courtesy smile, she came forward.
"I hope mango is fine." You said as you cracked open your strawberry one. Satisfied that the taste of beer is out of your mouth. "That's fine." She says as she makes her way to the chair opposite of you. "I like your place." Carol is being genuine, and you can see that. "Thanks."
You take another sip before asking: "What would you like to know?"
Carol thinks and looks over your face. "How old are you?" She squints her eyes in a playful manner, reminding you of the Carol that was flirty not that long ago. "Skrull years or human?" You ask with a sheepish smile.
"Whatever you feel comfortable with."
You nod, grateful for that answer.
"27 human years." You tilt your head. "I think."
Carol nods and takes a look around your living room before her eyes look back. "What do you do for fun?"
You weren't expecting that, but you couldn't deny that removing the tension from the room is nice.
So you smiled. "When I have time, I watch movies, play games, listen to music. You know, the normal things." Carol nods. "Normal things." She quietly repeats and can't for the life of her remember the last movie she watched.
You notice Carol's hands grip the seltzer just a little harder. "What about you?" You look to Carols' curious eyes. "What do you do for fun?" Carol covers up her surprised face and stammers to think.
"Umm..." She tilts her head in thought as it slowly dawns on you that Carol Danvers is too busy to relax. Or to have fun. "It's okay." You interrupt her thought. "Forget, I asked." You sip your drink and look away from her blue eyes. But she shakes her head. "It's not like I don't like to relax... I just..." She sighs and goes to speak, but you cut her off.
"Carol, it's alright. Seriously, forget I asked..." You open and close your mouth to stop yourself from saying more, but Carol catches it. "What?" She asks in a less than soft voice.
You give in. "I guess... I just hoped something fun would've been worth your time up there." You point up to the sky. "I guess it would've made me feel... I don't know... better knowing that you had fun at some point, but it doesn't appear so. All work, no play." Carol stares at you. "I heard a human male say that once."
But that's not what Carol is staring at you for. "Why would that make you feel better?" Carol asks, and you bite the bullet. "Because then..." You clear your throat. "Because then you would've had another reason for your absence."
That hurts Carol, and you honestly weren't trying to hurt her. But sometimes your words shoot to kill when you don't mean to.
Carol leans back into the wooden chair, causing it to creak. The only noise audible aside from the Captain's exhale. "I'm sorry." Carol looks up to see your eyes on her. "I am. I'm sorry for not being here for you and your people." Carol leans forward as her voice grows to be more gentle. "I'm sorry you got dragged into fights that should've never been around. What others did to you was extremely unfair. I should've stopped-d them and kept my p-promise..."
Before you, Carol Danvers breaks.
She feels guilty and hurt for what had happened. She takes the blame and knows whatever she does now will not stop what has already happened.
Carol lifts her right hand to her face to cover her mouth as her left arm falls to the table. She looks away from you as tears fall from her gorgeous eyes. "I'm sorry." This time, she's apologizing for her emotions.
What a silly thing to apologize for.
You let go of the can in your hand and reach your arm across the table. Your hand is open to her. Carol sees this and shakes her head, but you don't budge. "Take it." You whisper.
Carol wipes her eyes and sniffles as she lets her hand lay into yours. The contact of her warm hands sends chills across your body.
You sit like that and look at Carol with admiration for what she's done, and for the first time, you're seeing Carol Danvers as something more than a myth or a so-called hero.
Instead, all you see is Carol.
A beautiful blonde woman who is doing her best not to let snot dribble out of her nose.
It's cute.
"Here..." You remove your hand from hers as you get up to walk behind Carol. The blonde, missing your contact, turns her head to watch you. She sees you go into the living area to pick up a box of tissues sitting in the middle of your coffee table. She smiles and turns around before you notice her eyes on you.
But you felt them.
When you return to the kitchen, you hand Carol the box and watch as she embarrassing blows her nose and clears her throat.
"Trash is behind you in that cabinet." Carol turns around and opens a cabinet door. "Huh.." She says a little too loud, making you raise an eyebrow—something the blonde sees. "I- I was just thinking maybe I should put the trash can I have on the ship into a smaller area so it's not in the way. Or smelling..." She looks away from you once she finishes rambling, afraid you'll be angry at her for mentioning another thing that's kept her away. Aka, her ship. Or because you'll ask her why her garbage she smells so much.
But you do neither.
Instead, you step closer and fold your arms across your chest. "Why do you only have one trash can?"
Carol turns back to look up at you. "What?" You smile at her and let out an exhale of a laugh through your nose. "I said why do you only have one trash can? Don't you have a cat?"
Carol nods. "Well, technically, he's a flerken... so what's your point?" You tilt your head with your arms still crossed. "My point is, is when the flerken... you know... what do you do with the waste? Put it all into the same trash?"
Carol does her best to bite back a smile, only confusing you. "What?" It's now your turn to ask.
Carol stands up with a her smile showing. "Flerkens don't poop.. they eat, spit up, and lay eggs."
Excuse me!?
"They lay eggs?!" You exclaim, waving your arms around with a fright. Carol nods her head in a duh manner before picking up and finishing off the rest of her drink, as your mind can't wrap your head around a cat laying eggs.
You're only knocked out of your thoughts when Carol shuts the cabinet where your recycling bin was kept. Thus, bringing you and Carol back into this post-apology reality.
"You know..." You say, interrupting the dead air falling between the two of you. "For the record, I truly don't know where Nick Fury is." You shift your weight from one foot to the other.
Carol nods and inhales with a click. "I figured. Any word on Maria Hill?"
You smile. "Ah, the girlfriend." Carol playfully rolls her eyes and shakes her head. "For the last time. She's not my girlfriend."
"You're right." You say, taking a step closer. "She's not your type." You look Carol up and down. She sees it and unbeknownst to you.... You are her type.
"Like you are?" Carol says back to shock you, but all it does is make you smirk. You take another step closer. And in a hushed tone, you say: "You and I both know that I certainly could be."
This makes Carol blush, and lucky for her, you walk past her as her cheeks grow red. Carol never thought you would be that bold.
You never knew you were that bold!
The words left your mouth quicker than you could stop them, which is why you're now standing by your shelf of movies. Ignoring Carols eyes on you. Hoping the look on your face will quickly fade.
Carol turns around and sees you shift your weight again as you hold the ring hanging off the necklace between your fingers.
Carol knows she should fish for more information or just leave and continue her search for Fury. But she doesn't want to. She's been alone, on her own, for so long that having company is good. But having good-looking company is even better.
Regardless of how rocky your situation-ship started.
"Looking for anything in particular?" Carol says, appearing by your side. You keep your eyes forward as Carols blue eyes linger in your mind. "Something you might like..." You respond. "I might like?" Carol looks at you with scrunched eyebrows. You nod before turning your head, and when you do, Carols face turns from one of confusion into a smile. Which in turn makes you smile.
"Well, how's the search?" Carol raises an eyebrow and bites her bottom lip. "G-good." You feel your cheeks flush and hate yourself over your stupid stutter because of a pretty smile.
You turn away and grab whatever two movies are in reach to get the attention away from your face. "Maybe these..." You hold out for Carol to take.
"Terminator 2, and... Scott Pilgrim Vs The World?? Okay, there's no way that second one is real?!"
"How come?" You ask, genuinely curious by Carols sudden declaration. She flips the Blu-Ray to the back. "First off, he's a man named Scott. No hero is ever named Scott- hold on..." You're about to correct that she literally knows a hero named Scott when: "He has to beat 7 evil exes for this girl that he likes!?!" Carol looks up at you with a mixture of glee and distaste.
Carol thinks the plot sounds fun, but she's worried about how they're gonna stretch out the story coming from someone who could kick the seven evil ex's ass. No biggie.
You just nod and take Terminator 2 back from her to put on your shelf. "So you wanna go with that one?" You point to the movie. "You mean I can keep it?" Carol asks, misunderstanding you.
"Oh.. no- I mean you can, but I meant like that's we to watch- like we could watch it. Together." You nervously ramble and gesture to the TV behind you, and thankfully, Carol picks up on the hint and squints her eyes before smiling. "As fun as that sounds..." She hands you the movie. "I still need to find Maria."
Your smile turns flat, and you sadly take the movie from her hands. "Right."
"She's not my girlfriend." Carol points sternly at you before you can say anything. "I know." You laugh.
"Still don't know where Maria could be?" You shake your head. "Estonia? Fiji? Anywhere, honestly." You think as Carol sighs. "But." Carol stands up straight. "I know there's a colony hiding in Russia. Rumor is they have a leader. Someone like me. Someone who's lost everything."
Carol frowns at your words and steps towards you, but before she speaks, you cut her off.
"I forgive you." She stands in front of you with her mouth dropped. "It's okay. You don't need to apologize."
Carol closes her mouth and swallows as she nods. "Thank you."
"Of course." You whisper before clearing your throat. "Gravik." Carol raises her head, waiting for you to continue. "That's his name. Their leader." Carols nods again.
"And Carol?"
"Yeah?"
"Remember, we were all put into tough spots. I don't know much about Gravik or how far gone he could be. But I'm sure that could've been me."
Carol understands you and thanks you again before stepping closer to you. You don't move. She takes the movie from your hand and carefully drops it onto your coffee table. Carol then takes your hands in her own and looks you in the eyes.
"You didn't lose everything. You have me. I promise."
Carol then moves her hands out of yours and brushes them up your arm. And before you know it, her arms are wrapped around your back as you are pulled into a hug.
It's gentle and soft as each of you test the waters. Leaning into one another feels nice and complimentary. Once settled, you inhale and feel butterflies erupt in your stomach.
Carol Danvers smells like Vanilla.
She discovers that you smell like Lavender.
"You have me." She whispers as you feel her breath hit your ear. You bite your lip and make an agreeing noise. "I should go.." The hug finally ends, and yet the both of you want don't want Carol to leave.
But she promised.
"Yeah..." You give Carol a sad smile and walk with her to the door. "You don't have to walk me out," Carol says as your feet hit the bottom of the steps leading back to the main entrance. "I know, but I wanted to."
Carol loves that.
As you and Carol reach the front door, you stop. "Oh shoot. Wait here!" You say, confusing Carol as you turn around and run away. "What?!" She asks, only to hear you yell, "Wait!" Followed by your feet running up the stairs.
It takes less than two minutes for you to come back down. Carol smiles when she sees you, and it grows when she sees what's in your hand. In fact, she laughs. "You didn't!"
"I did." You wave it at her. "Here." You give Carol your copy of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. "I have no way of watching this. Believe it or not, Earth is the only planet with Blu-Rays." She laughs as she speaks.
"I know." You reply.
"It's for when you come back." You sweetly say, making Carol happy. You trust her. "For when I come back."
Carol opens her arms for a hug, which is when you get bold again. You kiss Carol on the cheek as you accept the hug, momentarily stunning the hero.
Before she leans back to look at you. Red in the face.
"Hey, if you're going to kiss me. Kiss me."
As her words hit your ears, Carol leans forward and connects her lips with yours, and the soft, sensual sensation your lips got from just her skin explodes when you feel her pillowy lips. You close your eyes and savor this moment.
"Wow."
You agree with Carol as the two of you hold each other. Neither alone. You lean your forehead against the blondes. "Can I ask you something?" You open your eyes to see her already looking at you. "Go ahead."
"When I do return, how will I know.. that you're you."
That's a good question. You think for a moment before commenting to an answer. "Play Take On Me by A-Ha. I like the acoustic version more, and if you play the original, I'll be sure to tell you that." Carol listens to your words and grins to the thought of you belting out Take On Me.
"That could work." She smiles.
"Besides. You'll know it's me." Carol leans out of the embrace and cocks an eyebrow. "You're so sure?"
"I'm positive."
Carol smiles brightly and takes your words as truth. She then looks up to the sky. "I should go."
"Okay." You tell her, but the night is just starting between you two, and you don't want it to end. But at last, Carol unwraps arms from you. The feeling of her long finger on your skin makes you jolt. "Will I ever get to see you in your true form?" Carol asks as carefully as possible. You understand and don't get upset.
Instead, you smile.
"You're looking at her." You say, making Carol smile at you before grabbing your hand. "I trust and know that I'll be ready for whenever you do want to show me."
You nod and appreciate it. "But this is me, Carol."
Carol begins to glow. "And this is me." She winks before lifting your hand up to place a kiss on your fingers. "Remember my promise."
You nod. "I will. Good luck, Carol."
"Stay safe, Y/N."
Carol takes a few steps out from the awning of the bar. She looks back at you before turning into light, shooting like a rocket up and towards the infinite cosmos.
You smile and go to fiddle with the ring around your neck before remembering...
-
Carol lands in her cloaked ship that's in high orbit of Earth.
Goose, the every alert flerken, is immediately there to greet her and to meow about her lack of pets. "I'm sorry, Goosie." Carol pets the flerken and gives her some head smoochies before marching over to a console.
She taps buttons on a pad before a scan of Earth shows up. Carol hits some more buttons, causing the image of Nick Fury to pop with red letters on top.
MISSING Last Seen: SABER Base
Carol looks at Goose, biting her lip to form a plan. But then Carol remembers about the gift in her other hand. "Oh shit." She ungrips the Blu-Ray and paces over to her personal corner on the ship.
She goes to place the movie on to her side table, except something rattles inside. She freezes. Huh? Carol picks up the case again and hears the noise.
How did she not hear this earlier?
Carol opens the case to find the movie still intact, put sitting on top is your necklace with your phone number and a note.
"I'm happy I have you." - Y/N
Carol wore your necklace every day after that.
Until three years later when you gave her a new ring.

With the Skrulls now saved from the Kree, at least for right now, you and Carol met Maria and Fury back at Maria's house for a last-dinner kind of thing. Most of the Skrulls decided to go back to Mar-Vell's lab to prepare to move again while Talos, Soren, and their child join you back at Maria's house. She did a really good job flying the plane to avoid whatever Kree was on her ass, and Fury won't let her forget it.
"That's some nifty flying you did out there. SHIELD could always use a good pilot like you."
"I'll consider it, as long as you don't call my flying nifty again."
Fury's eye is all scratched that you assume came from Goose.
"How's your eye?" you question the agent.
"Getting better every second. I'll be fine."
"Is it true that Goose scratched your eye?"
"I will neither deny nor confirm the details of that story."
"She did. I saw it happen," Maria confesses, making you cackle.
"Just so I'm clear, you were Soh-Larr and the SHIELD agent?" Carol asks Talos.
"Yeah, he tied my boss up and stole his identity," Fury interjects, ignoring your teasing remarks about how a cat got the better of him.
"I borrowed his likeness. I'm no thief."
"It's a little like a thief," Soren shrugs.
"Whose side are you on?"
"You're good to go here until you recover, but you and your family will need a new look."
"I could go back to being your boss."
"Please don't."
"Come on. I love sporting his beautiful blue eyes."
"I'll help you find a home and finish what Mar-Vell started," Carol offers.
You open your mouth to agree but nothing comes out of it. First, you think about Bucky and Steve and how you left this planet to get away from the pain it caused you, but then you think about how you promised yourself that this would be your new home away from Xenia and Markus. You fled once, you can't do this to Earth again. It needs protecting, and who will protect it if you leave?
"They can stay here with us, can't they, Mom?" Monica asks from the stairs where she and Talos' daughter are.
"They won't be safe here, baby. Auntie Carol is right. They need their own home."
"I'll be back before you know it," she says.
"Excuse me," you whisper.
You grab your plate of unfinished food and walk into the kitchen to do the dishes. Carol and Fury look at each other before getting up and doing the same. Leaving Carol behind and staying on Earth hurts differently than when you lost Bucky. Bucky died and you didn't have a choice but to move on with your life. You're deciding to leave even though it hurts you to do so.
"Are you okay?" Carol asks.
"Yeah."
"Let me help you with that," Fury offers and takes the wet dishes to dry.
He notices dry tears on your cheeks and gestures to Carol to talk to you.
"We beat the Kree and Ronan. What's wrong?"
"I don't know if I can go with you when you leave," you whisper.
This is a conversation to have privately so she puts it on the back burner for now. She rubs your back in a comforting way and takes out the pager that she took from Fury. She's modified it a bit so that he can always contact her whenever she may be.
"Here, there is something I want you to have. Plus, I need you to keep the Tesseract hidden here on Earth." She hands him the pager. "I upgraded it. The range should be a couple of galaxies, at least. For emergencies only."
"What? Do you think I'm gonna crank call you?"
"For emergencies only. From the looks of it, you'll have Y/N in case something goes wrong."
"Well, if you're ever passing back through this galaxy, be sure to give a brother a shout," he says. "I can finish up here. You two can take off."
"Come on."
Carol takes you outside to have a private conversation with you. She knows what you're going to say but lets you say it anyways.
"As much as I want to go with you, I can't leave Earth. The universe needs you, Carol but Earth needs me. The Tesseract is here, so someone is going to come for it sooner or later. She'll need someone to protect it."
"I agree."
"I'd be too selfish if I kept you from everyone else," you sigh sadly, "but I don't want to leave you. I love you."
"I love you, too. I'm not asking you to choose but I do have to leave. I can't stay on this planet knowing wars are going on out there that I can help fight."
"I know."
She pulls you in for a hug and allows you to cry on her shoulder for however long you need.
"This doesn't change anything between us. I want you to live your life. I don't know when I'll be back, but I don't want you to be lonely. I want you to meet someone, fall in love, and live your life. You'll always have a special place in my heart."
"So will you," you sniffle and pull away from her.
"If we are meant to be, we'll find our way back to each other. I can guarantee that."
"I should go, then. I wish you the best of luck, my love."
"Same here."
You kiss her one last time knowing this will be the last in a while. If you stay any longer, you're going to cry so you pull away from her and take off toad the sky. With no viable threat over your life, you can pick a place and settle down. You haven't had a home for at least fifty years.
New York has too many painful memories and London reminds you of Bucky. When you first came to Earth with Carol, you landed in Northern California. The beaches there are beautiful so maybe living in that state won't be such a bad thing. You can get a place along the beach and enjoy your life by yourself.
Malibu is nice this time of year, and you settle in quicker than you thought you were. You have a bit of money saved from the 40s that you never got to spend, so you use it to buy yourself a house on the beach. The town of Malibu is compact and busy but you don't mind being surrounded by this many people. It gives you an opportunity to learn about humans from what you missed over the years.
It takes a week after moving in to explore the town, so you're walking along the coast when you pass by a tall man sporting white hair and a mustache and a shorter woman with blonde hair.
"Y/N?"
You stop and face the couple with a confused look on your face.
"Yes. Do I know you?"
"It's me. Howard Stark."
"Howard? Wow, you've grown."
"You stayed exactly the same."
Hearing him say this makes you a bit sad knowing you'll probably never grow old. You'll always be the same age as you were when you first injected Markus' serum.
"Well, you know..."
"Wait, I thought you died. I thought you and Steve died when the plane went down. We searched for you two for months after the wreck."
"Steve died. I left Earth for fifty years."
"She's the one you were talking about?" Howard's wife says. "She's the Avatar?"
"That's me," you shrug.
"What are you doing here?"
"I bought a place on the beach. I spent the last sixty years fighting in wars I shouldn't have been fighting in. I figured what harm will it do if I take a few years to myself. What have you been up to?"
"I'm retired now. I have a few billion dollars to my name. I got married and had a son. Would you like to meet him?"
"Of course."
Howard and his wife, Maria, take you back to their house where their young adult son is.
"Tony? Come down here. There's someone I want you to meet." Tony comes down the stairs with a bored expression on his face. "Tony, this is Y/N."
Tony's heard the stories his father used to tell about a righteous man with super strength and a woman who can control the elements. He didn't think those stories were true until he sees you. There are very few pictures of Howard back in the day, but some of them contain you and Steve.
"Is this the same Y/N that you worked with back then? The one with Steve?"
If you're going to be in Tony's life, then he has a right to know exactly who you are.
"Yes, it is." You stick your hand out for him to shake, and you give him a polite smile. "It's very nice to meet you, Tony."

Hey. I have a request for a Carol Danvers x fem!reader....? Maybe where Carol is feeling guilty about her past and how she hurt the Skrulls before she found out what the Kree were doing, and reader comforts her and it’s just super soft?
Forgotten Past- Carol Danvers x Female! Reader
Tumblr media
Warning: sad! Carol :(, a little angst, mostly fluff
Summary: Carol reminisces on how she hurt the skrulls after being lied to by the kree and you help her remember who she really is
Word count: 757
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carol was sitting on the couch, with her legs crossed, watching tv when she heard you curse out. "SHIT!" Carol turned around, towards the direction of the kitchen. She pushed her legs off the couch and walked to the kitchen.
She reached the kitchen and leaned her arm against the wall, watching you. "What happened this time?" You looked up at Carol then back at the mess the blender had made on the floor. "I think i broke the blender." Carol rolled her eyes and smiled. She walked over to the blender, put the lid on and pressed the button. The blender came to life and it worked like normal. You smiled, embarrassed. "Well...at least one of us knows how to work the blender." Carol laughed and walked back down to the couch.
On her way to the couch, he passed by a picture you had framed on a little table. It was of Carol talking to talos. She remembers the picture like it was yesterday
                           ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talos and his family had come to visit Carol. It was the first time you would meet the skrulls. Carol was very concerned on how you would react.
Talos had landed the ship and walked out to greet Carol. "Long time no see." Carol said. She reached out her hand and he took it, shaking it. "It's nice to see you again, captain." She smiled. Talos then turned his attention to you, standing behind Carol, holding goose and stroking her. You smiled and reached out your hand. Carol smiled and looked back at talos. "Talos, this is my girlfriend, y/n this is talos."
He took your hand and shook it. "It's very nice to meet you." He smiled at you then looked down at your arms to see goose and he backed up a little. Carol snickered and leaned over to whisper in your ear. "He's afraid of goose." Your eyes widened and you were quick to put goose down. She lifted her tail up and strutted back towards the house. "I'm sorry." He waved his hand. "It's fine." He then started talking to carol and you saw the perfect opportunity to snap a picture. You secretly pulled out your phone and took a picture of them talking. It was candid but it described their relationship perfectly. Carol was smiling while talking to talos. It was rare to get Carol to smile.
                                 ~~~~~~~~~
Carol snapped back into reality when she heard the blender stop and your quiet celebration. She looked at the picture and felt guilt. She had hurt the skrulls because of the kree lies. She had killed so many. Why couldn't have she seen the signs before.
She didn't hear you walk up on her and as soon as you saw the guilt on her face, you quickly put the cups down on the table and walked back over to her.
"Carol, what's wrong?" She looked over at you and tried to mask her sadness. "Nothing. Just thinking." You looked at her and raised your eyebrow, clearly examining her. "Ok. Tell me the truth. What's wrong?" She sighed and decided she couldn't hide anything from you so she just told you. "I feel bad. About how i treated the skrulls." You sighed and looked at her with sad eyes. You grabbed her hand and pulled her over to the couch and sat down. "Carol, don't feel bad. They understand that you were lied to. They're not blaming you. You were brainwashed and kidnapped by the kree. The kree are the bad guys here." She didn't seem at all convinced so you got up and walked to you guys bedroom. You rummaged through the closet until you found what you were looking for.
You walked out of the bedroom and into the living room with her suit. "Tell me, this is you're suit, correct?" She sighed and nodded. "Yeah." You smiled and continued. "You're name is captain marvel, correct?" She nodded again, still confused. "And captain marvel is a hero, am i right?" She nodded. "Then why are you talking about you being the bad guy? You're a hero. You're my hero. You'll always be." Carol smiled. "Thank you." You pulled her into a hug and kissed her head. "I'll always be here for you, love."
A/n: i hope you like it :)
Carol Danvers Fluff A-Z Headcanon
Pairing: Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel x Female!Reader
Request: -
Warnings: None
A/N: I’m pretty sure you all saw this coming. And if you didn’t.....well.
Tumblr media
A = affection (how affectionate are they in day to day life? Do they show affection publicly or keep that more in private?)
Growing up on Hala (we all know she didn’t but you know what I mean), Carol was always taught the less affection the better. She willed herself to never care or let her personal feelings get in the way. To her, the mission at task was always the most important.
But when she met you, all of that changed. She never understood why she wanted to hold your hand, or why she always started glowing when someone said something remotely offensive to you.
Once she got over all of that however, you can best your bottom dollar that Carol was the most affectionate person you’d ever met. She doesn’t believe in showing you off in front of anybody, or anything like that. She knew you were hers, so affection didnt’t happen much when you were in public. But! At home around people you were both comfortable around, she would never stop with the pet names, holding, and random kisses. You never complained, and she never stopped.
B =best memory (what is the best memory they have with you)
She has two, even though they didn’t happen at the same time they’re both the same thing. The first time she met you.
Before she had gone missing, you two were in the same troop in the Air Force. The day she walked on the field, she couldn’t take here eyes off of you. You smiled at her and she had committed to her memory. You two had became the best of friends after that.
After the six years, you were at Monica’s house when she and Fury came to the house. And Carol swears that everything came back to her in that moment. It was like you were the one with powers, the way a orange silhouette followed you around. She soaked in the way your body felt against hers when you hugged her.
Everything came flooding back. The laughs, the cries, the anger and the love. She had remembered it all.
C = cat or dog person
Cats, duh. Have you met Goose? Okay we know that he’s not an actual cat, but the way he looks, how fluffy he is has inspired Carol to never own any other animal. D = dreams (what do they want to do in life?)
To protect. That's always been her purpose. On Kree and even before the crash, she always wanted to protect her people. You, Monica, Maria, Fury; are her people, and she will be damned if she lets anything happen to any of you. E = evenings (how do they spend their evening? So they go out? Do they read?)
Sleep, sleep, sleep and more sleep. Trying to save planets and the universe really takes a toll, so she naps as much as possible. Most nights though, she loves to just cut on her favorite slow music grab a book and lose herself in it. Its her second favorite relaxation method. F = first date (what was it like?)
Fucking extravagant. Who would've thought carol was such a romantic. There were candles everywhere, soft music playing and an empty restaurant just for the two of you. You spent the entire evening having your every desire filled and it couldn't get any better than that.
G = giggle (what is their laugh like? What makes them laugh?)
Im- We all know, and if you don't I'm so sorry. With her stature and build you would think her giggle is dominant and deep, but no no. It's light, airy and makes your stomach do flips. It's adorable and you love to watch her eyes scrunch up when she does it. H = hugs (do they like hug? What kind of hugs do the give?)
Carol has the absolute best hugs. She's tall so naturally her arms go for the middle, and they're long so she's able to wrap them alllllll the way around and pull you in. She squeezes firm but not hard enough to make you lose your breath. Her eyes always close a little bit to savor the moment as she rests her head on top of yours. And She always smells like apples and vanilla so it makes the experience that much better. I = instrument (do they play an instrument?)
She loves the piano. The soft, serene music it makes is a sharp contrast to what she's usually used to: chaos, chaos, chaos. So she's delighted to let herself go in something so...grounding. J = joy (what brings them joy in life?)
You, Maria, Monica and Of course goose are her favorite people. She prides herself on human interactions with the ones she loves, so being around you guys makes her the happiest. Fighting to protect you all is great, but that means nothing if she doesn't have a bond with the ones she is protecting, you know? K = kisses (what kind of kisser are they? Shy? Passionate?)
You know….Carol is a certified #top but I think her kisses would be so soft and gentle most of time. She’d grab you by your face and start with your nose and cheeks, before placing the softest of kisses on your lips. It's so soft it tickles, making you and in turn her always laugh.
There are those occasions after a near-death mission or event where softness is not the needed medium. In those cases, passion is everything. Actions speak louder than words, and she’ll make sure that she speaks clearly.
L = love (how do they act when they have a crush)
When Carol Danvers wants something, she makes sure everyone knows it. She never missed an opportunity to compliment or flirt with you. She regularly invaded your personal space with hugs, cheek kisses and high five. Whenever someone would try to make advances on you, all she had to do was make her first glow a little bit and boom.
And it wasn't just her trying to make sure no one made a move on you. She would consistently dodge everyone else who tries to slide on her. If it wasn't you, then she didn't want them.
M = memory (what’s their favourite memory?)
Oddly enough, the night in the bar she'd spent with Maria. It was after a really long day training, and they decided to let off some steam. After getting more drunk than what medical professionals recommend, they had spent all night singing karaoke. They didn't get a single word or melody right, but who cares?
N = no (what is their pet peeve?)
The three i’s: Intolerance, Ignorance, Insolence. She absolutely cannot stand (ironically enough) people who have no respect for others. In the air force, she has been treated way less than everyone else just because she had a vagina. And Maria had it worse than her, just because she was black and had a vagina. They both got shit for liking women. The skrulls has their entire planet and families destroyed, just because the Kree people thought they were better than them. She couldn't ever wrap her head around people like that, but she could blast them into a new galaxy :)
O = occupation (what’s their dream job?)
Serving her country. But since she has too much power to be just doing that, she wants to serve, protect and restore the entire universe. She wants to shield everyone from harm and avenge the death of everyone Thanos took from them. (See what I did there?)
P = parent (what kind of parent would they be?)
Oh, Carol would most definitely be the parent who's their kids best friend. She knows how to get down with the best of them, and her children are no exception. Can you imagine what it would be like having a mini carol blasting around the house? All the little (and big) things they would get into? My, Oh, My. Q = questions (do they believe in the super natural? Aliens? Anything along those lines)
What do you think? R = romantic (are they romantic during the relationship?)
Carol puts romanticism to shame. If she isn't constantly sweeping you off your feet,  whether literally or figuratively, then she's doing something wrong.
Flowers and foods from different planets. Vacations to different galaxies. Never having to make breakfast or drive ever again. Long soliloquies when she can't wait to see after a long mission. Never having to go a day without her after they defeat Thanos. Sometimes they can get overwhelming,  but you know she's coming from a place of love.
S = smile (what makes them smile without fail)
Happy you, happy maria, happy Monica,  happy goose, happy life, happy universe, Happy Carol.
T = together (how clingy are they? How long do you two spend together per day on average)
Because of her current task of trying to fix the universe, she doesn't see you nearly as much as she would like to. But when she is without dont expect to be able to shake her off, not that you'd ever want to. She would be all over you with kisses, hugs, cuddles, sex and love. She had to get as much of you as she could before she had to leave again.
U = unbearable (what habit do they have that’s unbearable? What habit do you have that they find unbearable)
You hate to be the kind of s/o where they say they’re absolutely perfect...but Carol is absolutely perfect. There isn’t anything wrong with her. You could ask for anyone better. V = videos (do they take lots of videos or photos during your relationship?)
Surprisingly, yes. Obviously she's not from this era, being born in the 60s and on other planets for the past 15 years. Her first time seeing a cell phone was one thing, but seeing her face on one in real time, doing what she was doing was a different breed. Once you taught her how to use the camera as well as social media (“so you're telling me that I can see what someone else is doing on the other side of the world?) all she could do was document her life. Her life that consisted mainly of you, Monica and Maria was all over snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. It was the small things she chose to record and photograph. The things that were important but not big enough to where she can automatically recall. She chose to record things that she wouldn't even think of on a regular basis, things that would jog her memory and make her smile. Because who knows? Maybe someone else can come along and take her memory again. Or read her thoughts. She needs something that can make her remember.
W = wedding (what was the wedding like?)
Everything the both of you could ever ask for. It was outdoors, both your families (avengers, skrulls, flerkens, the usual) were there. You both work pristine beautiful dresses that had everyone in awe. There wasn't a dry eye in the courtyard as you two were pronounced wife and wife.
X = eXtra (what’s an interesting fact about them that they don’t tell anyone about?)
Psssttt. She loves country music and painting, dont tell anyone.
Y = yuck (what do they hate? Could be a food, sent, word anything)
Besides those special type of people, carol absolutely despises the summer. You would think, living in California, she'd be used to it but no. She hated the sticky sweat and the humid air. Winter was the summer for her. Z = zzzz (how heavy of a sleeper are they? How do they sleep? What mood do they wake up in? Really any sleeping headcanons)
Carol sleeps like she's heavily, heavily sedated. It's quite remarkable, you think. She usually sleeps on her back, or side but she's always attaches to you. Whether you're on her chest or she's facing you with your arms around each other.
Now, I've seen sooooo many people say that Carol is a morning person, but I have to disagree. Do you really think she's gonna do all that work, sleep that hard and wake up chipper? I think not! She does everything in her power to stay asleep, you are not going to object, you hate the mornings too.
It's always a game to see who can sleep in the longest. Spoiler alert: Carol usually wins.
Best Friend (Carol x Reader)
Tumblr media
(Gif credit to owner)
Fandom: Marvel
Character: Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel)
Persona: Female
Word Count: 1,050
Request:   can u do carol danvers x reader base on rex orange county's "bestfriend"?
A/N - A link to the song is here --> Best Friend - Rex Orange County. It will be quite long due to the length of the lyrics so apologies in advance! <3
THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR CAPTAIN MARVEL
You weren’t even supposed to be working on that fateful day but unfortunately Phil Coulson was sick and Nick Fury really needed backup for this investigation, even though he insisted he didn’t. When your alarm rang out this morning you sighed, contemplating if you should even bother going; Fury said he’d be okay right? Then you thought about how angry your director would be if you didn’t turn up and that was something you didn’t want to deal with. Sighing, you left your bed.
I should've stayed at home 'Cause right now I see all these people that love me But I still feel alone Can't help but check my phone I could've made you mine But no, it wasn't meant to be and see, I wasn't made for you And you weren't made for me Though it seemed so easy
You thought she was really strange at first, not just with her attire, it wasn’t the fact she was talking about aliens either and it wasn’t her name, (even though you thought Vers was quite a strange name). There was just something about her that you couldn’t quite put your finger on, maybe it was the way she made you laugh with her attitude like when she blasted her way into the archives room and made Fury mad. Maybe it was the way her hair fell perfectly despite having just fought off multiple agents or maybe it was her quick thinking and intelligence.
There was just something about her so...wonderful and inspiring.
And that's because I wanna be your favorite boy I wanna be the one that makes your day The one you think about as you lie awake I can't wait to be your number one I'll be your biggest fan and you'll be mine But I still wanna break your heart and make you cry
You finally realised what it was on your ride to to Mar-Vell’s ship: you were in love with her, even though you’d known each other for a short amount of time it felt like you’d known her your whole life. She was everything you wanted to be.
As Talos was reuniting with his family, you tentatively touched her arm. Carol’s calm expression softened even more, “You good?”, she asked placing her hand on top of yours. You wanted to tell her, you wanted to scream it at her but you knew the timing wasn’t right; you still needed to get the Skrull to a safe place. “Yeah everything’s good”, you forced out with a smile, “I’m just glad we’re doing this together”.
She returned your smile in an instant, beaming back at you, “Me too (Y/N)”.
But won't you wait You know it's too late I'm on my own shit now Let me tell you how it feels to be fucking great I feel great Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah You need to be yourself Love someone for loving you instead of someone really cool That makes your heart melt Who knows what you truly felt? You're still my favorite girl You better trust me when I tell you There ain't no one else more beautiful in this damn world In this damn world
Watching her say goodbye was one of the hardest moments of your life. The guilt you felt from your selfishness was horrendous, but you couldn’t help yourself, “Can’t you stay? We’re gonna miss you”.
Carol reached out and touched your shoulder gently, her face sombre, “I wish I could, but I have to help them. They need me (Y/N)”. You plucked the hand from your shoulder and held it in your own, almost like you were savouring her touch, “We need you too, what happens when Earth’s in danger?”. Carol’s thumb rubbed your own in an attempt to soothe you, “Well for a start there’s you and Fury, you both already kick ass”, she said making you chuckle although the laughter was only short lived. “But what if we really do need you?”.
She looked over your shoulder to Fury, nodding at him she looked back to you, “If you need me I’ll come, I promise”. Carol’s free hand swiped at the tears on your cheeks which had started to fall, “You better”, you mockingly threatened. Carol smiled at you, “I never break a promise”.
You're gonna wanna be my best friend, baby You're gonna wanna be my best friend I said that You're gonna wanna be my best friend, baby You're gonna wanna be my best friend (best friend) You're gonna wanna be my best friend, baby You're gonna wanna be my best friend Best friend You're gonna wanna be my best friend, baby You're gonna wanna be my best friend
You stood, arms wrapped loosely around your body, as the ship with the Skrull took off. Dread was filling you; time was running out.
You didn’t care that you were fully weeping now as you turned to look at Carol. She offered you a small smile, one which you tried hard to match but you could barely move the corner of your lips. She pulled you into a warm embrace, your arms gripped onto her like she was the last thing in the world, her scent was sweet with a hint of smoke, something which you burned into your memory.
“I’ll see you soon alright?”, she whispered into your ear as her hand rubbed your back, “So stop crying or Fury’s gonna realise you ain’t so tough”. You laughed a sob into her hair and involuntarily tightened your grip, “You better Carol or I’ll build myself a spaceship and I’ll kick your ass myself”. Her laughter was such a joyous noise. She started to pull back and sadly you had to let go.
“Oh I’d like to see you try (Y/N)”, Carol winked, making your heart flutter. She then turned to everyone else and started saying her goodbyes while you watched dully.
“Look after Goose for me”, Carol grinned hovering slightly above the ground, “I’ll see you guys around”. Instantly she blasted off leaving a brilliant hue of colours behind and you with a broken heart.
Surprisingly, Fury was the one to console you, “She’ll be back”.
I say that I'm happy I say that I'm happy But no, no, no, no No, no, no, oh
You Owe Me: A Car Wash
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Brunnhilde x Female Plus Size Reader
Warnings: LEMONS! Blood
Summary: After finally exposing who she is to the team, the reader catches the attention of Brunnhilde who was interested in her before but now even more so. This leads to the reader being asked to join a mission that has her saving Sam and exposing her gift of the seventh sense. Brunnhilde begins to show more interest than necessary, especially when keeping the reader safe in battle. That said, in order for Sam to repay the reader he agrees to wash her jeep but not before she grabs the Valkyrie and takes her with her to get it muddy. Read for the rest!
A/N: @buckysforeverprincess  3k Challenge. My prompt was car wash! Reader is a Kree warrior that came to earth when she was 13. She had been sent there after Carol Danvers returned to the Kree home world after the events of Captain Marvel. Reader had come of age and it was known she had the seventh sense, so Carol rescued her and sent her to earth to keep her safe because she knew the reader was a good kid. She instructs the reader to find Fury and he would know how to help her and keep her safe. At this point it is after Endgame and no one knew of what the reader was up to this moment, they just believed she was a go to for anything the team needed. It is suspected Steve knows about her.
Words: +3,100
Y/N had been sent to earth by Carol after she had returned to Hala to right the war. She was young, 13 at the time and it was known Y/N had been gifted with the seventh sense. Instead of allowing her to be mutilated, Carol helped the young Kree leave after returning to right the war with the Skrull.
Having come to earth, she was taken in by Fury and raised within SHIELD, or more importantly Peggy Carter made sure she was taken care of. That was what led to Y/N being in the Avengers compound and breaking up the fight between Sam and Bucky. Originally thought to be just a tech expert and go to for anything that was needed on that floor until that day.
It also left Brunnhilde standing speechless in the corridor as the thick framed Kree tossed the super soldier to the floor and Sam into the couch. The woman ordering the two too shut up and stop bickering. Exasperated she stormed out of the room past Brunnhilde and into her smaller one. Digging around on her desk for her phone to order groceries for the team and cursing under her breath.
“You going to act like that didn’t happen,” came a voice from the doorway. The Kree turning to look at the Valkyrie who appeared to be finished sparring for the day.
“Yep. I told them to stop,” she smiled as if nothing happened and started out of the room past the warrior who followed close. Sam and Bucky hurrying to speak with her and apologize. “Steve told you not to get on my bad side and now you know why,” Y/N snipped hinting to the fact Steve knew what she was all along.
“Yeah but what are you,” Sam asked as she opened the fridge to scan multiple items.
“Kree,” Brunnhilde spoke up as the mentioned Kree paused to look at her with a smile. It hadn’t gone unnoticed the Valkyrie watched her when she entered the room.
“Yep.”
“So that’s why you and Carol are so close,” Bucky spoke up as she moved to the cabinets, the Valkyrie still close.
“Yep.”
“You’re a pinkie,” Brunnhilde spoke up, Y/N still continued as if this was an everyday occurrence.
“Yep,” the Kree admitted as she turned to look at the three. Giving them a smile, more importantly Brunnhilde, who stood and waited for more questions. “So, what do you want to know?”
 That was a month ago and had the Asgardian following Y/N around more than normal. The mission they were coming off of found the Valkyrie neglecting her duties to assure the Kree was safe. Or that was until Y/N unveiled her seventh sense. Showing precognition along with the ability to mentally manipulate the enemy male and female.
“You get to wash my Jeep,” Y/N snipped as she stepped on board not realizing Brunnhilde was on her heels. Sam met her golden yellow eyes with a roll of his, the color of them once hidden by contacts.
“I ordered you not to go into the tunnel and you didn’t listen.” The Kree now fumed as she paused before the falcon who was beat up to say the least but thankfully only had minor wounds.
“She did warn you,” Steve spoke up as they all noted Brunnhilde grab a gauze and place it to the Kree’s side on her back. Y/N let out a hiss at the pain the pressure caused.
Warily she turned to look at the Valkyrie as Thor stepped on board and smirked at the two.
“You owe her,” Thor spoke up to Sam. “She took the hit for you, literally.”
“Ok, I’ll wash your Jeep,” he shouted while Brunnhilde tugged Y/N towards the back. Gingerly the Valkyrie pulled the gauze away to watch it ooze greenish blue and a glint of metal shone inside the wound.
“I need you to remove your jacket,” Brunnhilde spoke hinting to the ruined suit the Kree wore.
“I knew you wanted to see me naked,” she tried to joke but the chuckle made the wound throb. Letting out a quiet ‘ow’ when pain shot through the wound to earn a smirk from the bronze warrior.
“See,” the warrior hinted to the pain that moved across her features. “I have better ideas of how to get you naked and this isn’t it.”
“Hm, so chivalrous,” Y/N spoke as the Valkyrie helped her to pull it free leaving her in the racer tank. The warrior not hesitating to lift it up to take hold of the shrapnel and pull it free.
“Damn it! A little warning next time,” Y/N cursed as the warrior grabbed the gauze once again to press into her side and forced the Kree to take a seat.
“You should heal in no time,” Brunnhilde laughed, kneeling beside of her while Steve stepped up to hand them fresh gauze.
“Appreciate you watching after Sam,” he spoke up as Y/N gave him a weary smile. “No problem. There was no way he would have known,” she spoke as the blood began to ebb enough for Brunnhilde to secure the bandage and pull the shirt down.
“When we get back why don’t you get checked out and then go get some rest,” Steve admitted as the Valkyrie stood to look at her as she leaned back.
“Rest? I need to dirty my Jeep for Sam,” she laughed, Steve rolling his eyes as he walked away to check on the others.
“Maybe you should rest,” Brunnhilde spoke, taking a seat next to Y/N and brushing her disheveled hair away from her sweat soaked face. Casually the Valkyrie laid her hand on Y/N’s flush cheek as if making sure she wasn’t overheating.
“Maybe,” she spoke leaning over onto the warrior unintentionally, but it seemed welcomed. The two settling into each other for the ride back as comfortably as Y/N could.
Tumblr media
Once back at the compound and cleared Y/N hurried to get changed. In the process she drug Brunnhilde to the garage and urged her to get into the Jeep.
“I don’t understand,” the Valkyrie began as Y/N rushed to the driver’s side of the vehicle to get in gingerly. The wound still tender but healing well.
“It’s easy,” Y/N smiled at the bronze warrior as she climbed into the lifted vehicle and couldn’t help but to share the Kree’s smile. Brunnhilde had to admit, she loved to see Y/N excited like this. “Go find mud and get dirty.” The Kree finished as she started the vehicle, so they didn’t waste any time.
Tumblr media
“This is it? We’re stuck,” Brunnhilde spoke as she looked out at the mud they were buried in. Still she didn’t understand the Kree’s fascination with doing this but if it made her happy then the Valkyrie would go along with it.
The lifted Jeep sat buried up to it's belly in a muddy hole that Y/N obviously miscalculated the depth of. Hurriedly, or as quickly as she could with a still healing wound, the Kree dug something out of the console and smirked at Brunnhilde.
“No were not,” she laughed, brandishing some sort of control and reaching back to grab a nylon strap before getting out of the vehicle.
Gingerly Y/N made her way over the steps, to the mud caked tire and then the front bumper to get to the winch. Releasing the cable, she took the leap into the mud that went over her knees. Laughing, the Kree made her way to a nearby tree, even taking a spill into the stuff when her boot got stuck, making her laugh harder.
Once she had made it to a nearby tree, Y/N hinted to the Valkyrie to get in the driver’s seat while she worked the wench via the wireless remote. It took some work, but they managed to free the vehicle and get it to dry ground. Sorely the Kree made her way to the driver’s side as Brunnhilde slid out worriedly, especially when Y/N’s hand went to her side for an instant.
“You look terrible,” Brunnhilde spoke as she stopped and looked the Kree over, the woman covered in mud from head to toe.
“Thanks,” Y/N grimaced as she straightened but was taken off guard as a tanned hand slipped to the nape of her neck. The vise like hold kept her in place as the Valkyrie pulled flush and smashed her lips into hers.
Y/N was taken off guard by the sudden display of affection but enjoyed it none the less. Breathlessly they parted, the Kree’s head swam, glad Brunnhilde kept an arm around her mud caked thick middle for support. It surprised Y/N the Valkyrie was so gentle, even though it was needy.
“I just ruined your clothes,” was the only stupid remark Y/N could come up with as Brunnhilde smiled at her. Carefully she released her, sure the Kree could stand on her own before she stepped back.
“Doesn’t matter. Let’s get back so I can take care of you,” Brunnhilde smiled before stepping back to the passenger’s side of the Jeep.
Tumblr media
The expression on Sam’s face the instant they pulled up was priceless. Gingerly Y/N slid out of the driver’s seat, the falcon eyeing her close before turning the hose on her.
“Thanks,” the sopping wet Kree sputtered as she shook her arms out to rid it of excess water that also pooled at her feet in a muddy puddle. Sam aiming the hose at the Valkyrie who gave him a deadly glare.
“You do and it will be the last thing you ever do,” she threatened, the warrior hinting to Y/N to follow her into the compound.
To the shock of the Kree, Brunnhilde took her hand the moment they entered the main lobby and laced their fingers together.
“Never picked you as the cuddly type,” Y/N spoke up as they stepped foot on the lift and the doors shut. The Kree turning to face the bronze warrior who looked staring ahead and tanned fingers stayed wrapped in hers.
“I’m not,” she spoke, not meeting her gaze as the door opened, Brunnhilde tugging Y/N with her down the corridor and into the Valkyrie’s room. The warrior quick to shut the door before releasing Y/N’s hand and pushing her against it. Calloused bronze fingers wrapping around the nape of soft neck to press her lips to hers.
“Ow,” Y/N breathed as she was released and the Valkyrie was quick to push away so she wasn't putting too much weight on her.
“Sorry. Too much,” Brunnhilde breathed, calloused bronze fingers caressing over the Kree’s soft, plump cheek.
“It’s just too much for now,” Y/N spoke up as she squinted at unseen pain while pushing from the door.
“Come on, let me look at that wound,” Brunnhilde spoke, taking her hand once again and led her into the bath room. The Kree forgetting the warriors strength as Brunnhilde gingerly lifted her by thick thighs to the counter and helped her to peel the soaked t-shirt off.
Cautiously bronze fingers peeled the bandage free to note the wound was healed more than earlier. It was barely an angry mix of jagged red lines that had once oozed emerald green blood. A calloused tan finger rubbed over the wound in efforts to assure a troubled mind that Y/N was ok.
“It appears to be almost healed. Is it sore,” the Valkyrie asked, moving in front of Y/N to look her over, not meaning to pause on ample breast moving with the slightest breath.
“Yeah, but it should be a lot better by morning. Would it make you happy if I took it off?”
The comment made by the Kree had Brunnhilde blushing slighly as she met her gaze, but cognac orbs flicked to her lips that smirked at the move.
“A lot of things would make me happy, but right now,” the Valkyrie began, leaning forward into the counter between Y/N’s spread legs to wrap tan arms around thick middle. Cognac orbs sparkling as they looked up into golden yellow orbs. “Right now, what would make me happy is if you would agree to court me.”
At that Y/N couldn’t stifle the laugh as she placed her arms around the warriors shoulders and hoped she was doing it right. Bowing her head down to lay her forehead to the tanned one before her, feeling a heat rise in the warriors face.
“What is so funny?”
“You said court,” the Kree chuckled before nuzzling at the bronze nose before her.
“Well? That is what it is isn’t it?”
“No one says court anymore,” Y/N chuckled once more, the two women sharing a moment.
“Well what do they call it?”
“I think the term now is date.”
“Ok,” Brunnhilde huffed trying to sound irritated but the smile gave it away. “Then will you allow me to date you?”
This time Y/N sputtered to laugh but stopped. OK, she would give the warrior that one.
“Look, I'm over 4,000 years old so cut me some slack,” the Valkyrie spoke up and made the other quiet but nuzzle at her nose again.
“Wow, so then you are robbing the cradle as they say.”
“You are very aggravating you know that?”
“You love it, or you wouldn't be holding me like this,” Y/N breathed quietly as she calmed the banter, calloused fingers slipping along the Kree’s spine to toy with the clasp of the bra.
“I do. You're my weakness I suppose,” Brunnhilde admitted, managing the clasp one handed and Y/N felt the straps slip over her shoulders.
Tilting her lips up to Y/N, the Kree was shocked by how delicate the kiss was. She had always suspected Brunnhilde was a rough lover, but apparently not as she was tugged gently to her feet. The hand that slipped to the hem of Y/N’s jeans had the Kree gasping out to push back from the warrior who fixed her with a worried gaze.
“I’m sorry-,” Brunnhilde began taking a step back from Y/N. The warrior watching the nervous Kree closely as tan fingers danced over the top of the soaked jeans.
“Don't be-. It's just- my first time with a woman,” the Kree finally admitted as the warrior regained her mischievous smile.
“Then; I will go slow,” Brunnhilde smiled, tugging her towards the shower. “How about a shower? I don't want you getting mud all over the place.”
“Sounds good,” Y/N spoke nervously, pausing to push the boots off her feet and undress.
It was apparent the Valkyrie was giving her privacy as she turned to do the same. The bronze warrior stepping into the shower first to cut the water on and the Kree nervously stepping in behind her. Slowly Brunnhilde turned to Y/N who looked about to shake out of her skin.
“We don't have to-,” the warrior began reaching to cherish over plump, flush cheek and relishing in how she melted into the touch while eyes fluttered closed.
“I know. But I want to,” she breathed out, opening her eyes to note the smile in cognac ones.
“Slow and easy. Yeah?”
Y/N nodded in agreement with the statement. “Yeah,” she breathed as she tugged her under the stream and soft lips pressed to hers. It turned needy in no time but never was Y/N pressured to part her lips. Willingly the Kree did as the Valkyrie’s tongue swept across them, surprised at the fervor the warriors tongue took to in desperation to taste of her.
With a slight jolt, Y/N was stunned as she was pushed back into the cold tile but thankful the rain heads over them made it impossible to escape the warm stream. It had broken the kiss long enough to allow a quiet gasp but in no time lips fell to hers again. This time Brunnhilde bit down in hurry for her to part puffy lips as a hand palmed the Kree’s soft breast and the other squeezed plump hip.
Y/N was unsure what to do with her hands holding them out away from the bronze warrior. Slowly she allowed them to the warriors tanned skin, her fingers lacing into wet ebony locks. Not meaning to gasp out as fingers trailed over plump hip to tease the top of delicate slit.
“You’re sensitive,” Brunnhilde spoke as she looked into Y/N’s golden eyes blown with lust. Drinking in her shiver as she dipped delicately to ghost over her swollen clit. With a nip of her teeth she bit at Y/N swollen lips.
“It’s been awhile,” Y/N panted as fingers dipped to aching hole clenching around nothing. Brunnhilde dragging her fingers back up to throbbing nerve to circle it gently.
“Then you want last long this time,” Brunnhilde breathed darkly, sinking to her knees before Y/N could protest and placed her lips over throbbing clit. The warm embrace of the warriors mouth all that was needed to throw the Kree into an abyss of pleasure.
“Fuck,” Y/N ground out as she was unable to keep herself from falling over the edge. Stars bursting behind her eyes as she arched off the tile. Damn, the Kree wasn’t lying when she said it had been awhile.
Slowly the warrior between her thighs helped her off the high. Gentle kisses to overstimulated nerve made electricity run to the base of Y/N’s skull leaving a tingling in its wake. Thighs shook as she noted the Valkyrie was now standing before her and lips pressed to puffy trembling ones, tasting herself on the warriors tongue.
“So beautiful when you come undone,” the warrior breathed as she tugged Y/N’s shivering form under the stream. The two wrapping arms around one another to soak in the moment.
The Kree stood slighly taller than the Valkyrie but it didn’t seem a problem as Brunnhilde laid her head on Y/N’s trembling shoulder to kiss under her ear.
“What about you,” Y/N’s voice quivered, hinting to Brunnhilde’s own release. The Kree holding tight to the bronze warrior nudging at the tender flesh under her ear, soft lips kissing over her jaw to pause a breath away from Y/N’s lips.
Amber orbs sparkled as they gazed into the Kree’s golden yellow ones.
“I'm fine lover,” Brunnhilde hummed as she pressed her lips softly to Y/N’s. The water pelted over them gently, the sentiment of the kiss sending chills up the Kree’s spine but was welcomed. Y/N let out a whimper as Brunnhilde pulled away. “When you fully recover we will do more, but for now, I want to tend to you.”
“Hmm, sounds like you are planning on spoiling me,” Y/N hummed as she laid her forehead to the warriors who nuzzled at her nose this time.
“I do. And I plan on keeping it that way,” Brunnhilde spoke before tanned fingers danced over Y/N’s spine to make her press into the warriors warm body. Quietly the two held tight in the calmness of the stall, drinking in each other’s company until time to step out and settle into the Valkyries bed for the evening.
Jessica Jones Season 2 Easter Eggs And References
Instead of a six sentence Sunday this week, since it’s been over a week since the second season of Jessica Jones dropped on Netflix, I bring you lots of Easter eggs. They’re all broken down by episode so you can skip to the ones that interest you.
First and foremost, before we even get into the episodes, is this that someone pointed out on twitter. Just like in the first season where plenty of iconic imagery from the comics was used, even the promotional image Netflix uses this season is based on a comic book panel. And just like in season one, the episode titles are all actually voiced in the episodes.
S2E01 AKA Start At The Beginning
Metro General
Apparently, this is the only hospital in New York, and its staff, other than Claire Temple, is all pretty much useless since they didn’t notice a teenage girl suddenly appearing out of thin air 17 years ago.
Lizards Wearing Human Skins
This probably isn’t an outright Marvel reference since it’s used as a joke in sci-fi all the time, but when one of Jessica’s potential clients mentions this, it reminded me that Agents of SHIELD did confirm that one of Marvel’s reptilian races, the Gegku, exist in the MCU since Fitz was wearing their larva as a pin in season five. As for the “wearing human skin,” Agents of SHIELD also did that with the Chronocoms in season five, and we know that the Skrull (who are shapeshifters) are heading to the MCU in Captain Marvel next year. So, hey, maybe it’s a reference after all.
The Whizzer
A guy with a penchant for yellow and blue who happens to have super speed isn’t just an invention for the show. Though his name is revealed as Robert Coleman, he was Robert Frank in the comics, and really popular in the 1940s. He was a character some fans theorized would pop up on Agent Carter because of his ties to the time period, but he was adapted for a (brief) time on Jessica Jones instead. The character actually fell out of favor with audiences as Captain America gained popularity. His comic book origin was the result of Dr. Emil giving him a blood transfusion from a mongoose… which gets a reference on the show too, though in a surprising way.
Trish’s Patsy Costume
That costume, right down to the colors and the go-go boots, is something teenage Patsy would have worn in the comics. They’ve really done a nice job at the callbacks for this character.
The Killers
The movie playing on the rooftop is the 1946 movie The Killers, which was adapted from an Ernest Hemingway story. In it, a boxer was paid to throw a fight and thinks he’s going to be killed after the fact. Which is basically the backstory for Daredevil’s father.
Trish Keeping “the others’” Secret
Trish makes a point of saying that she didn’t reveal Jessica’s identity on her talk show, even if it’s easy to trace Trish to Jessica. But she also mentions that she didn’t reveal any of the others. That’s a reminder that the two of them have now met the main players from Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist in The Defenders in case anyone forgot that Trish’s superhero complex wasn’t just a result of her friendship with Jessica, but living in a world full of heroes and just being Trish.
Maynard Tiboldt
The hypnotist that Trish mentions is a comic book character called the Ringmaster, just like his father before him. He debuted in the sixties in the comics and used a mind controlling hat while he was in charge of the Circus of Crime. A version of a Ringmaster actually appeared in Iron Fist as well, so I feel like this is more a case of the writers wanting to reference another controlling male character than planning on doing anything with him.
Crap On Jessica Day Is Next Month
Okay, so I know this isn’t a reference since writers didn’t know exactly when the show would be released when they were writing, but I found this line by Trish funny only because Infinity War’s release date was officially moved up to April, which is the month after Jessica Jones drops, and when the world will, presumably, go to crap, for the heroes living in it.
S2E02 AKA Freak Accident
Josie’s Bar
Look, it’s not just Matt, Foggy, and Karen who like to take their shots at Josie’s anymore. It’s becoming a regular Netflix hangout. And one with a Game of Thrones pinball machine.
The Patsy Walker Posters
The illustrated images used are pulled straight from old comics.
Those Spider-Man References
The idea of a spidey sense and the whole “with great power” phrasing has become such a large part of pop culture, that it they might not be a purposeful shout out to Spider-Man, but they should be. “With great power comes great mental illness” from the Whizzer and Griffin’s “scoty-sense” being referenced reminds comic book readers that on the page, Jessica was actually a classmate of Peter Parker’s when she was a teenager - which is obviously a very different timeline than the MCU. Jessica even had a crush on him at one point, but literally no one even noticed her until her family’s tragic accident. She didn’t take it well.
Simpson’s Inhaler
It plays a role later in the show too, but it’s confirmation that Will Simpson is a character inspired by Nuke if the red and blue pills from last season weren’t enough. In the comics, the pills activate his adrenaline, strength, etc. This season, he’s upgraded to the inhaler for a quicker method of application.
S2E03 AKA Sole Survivor
Foggy Nelson
So, it’s not just Josie’s that Jessica Jones is borrowing from Daredevil. This is just your reminder that Foggy now works at the same law firm as Jeri Hogarth. Him reaching out to someone having a tough time is probably also serving as a reminder that he’s having a tough time of his own - he thinks his best friend is dead.
Leslie Hansen
Hansen might just be a fairly common last name in the MCU, but it could also be that this doctor is related to Maya Hansen, seen on the big screen in Iron Man 3. She was one of the scientists working on the Extremis serum, and over the course of the movie, she was killed. Fun fact: She was originally supposed to be the villain of the movie, but the script was changed because Marvel didn’t think a female villain would sell toys. I like to think that Jessica Jones, a show that had all female directors for its second season, and all female artists doing its posters for promotional work, picked the name Hansen on purpose to prove a point, but that might be reaching.
Captain America’s Action Figure
We’ve seen Avengers toys and things in the MCU properties before, but it’s a nice nod here that this action figure belongs to a kid that lost Cap’s shield, so he had to make him a new one… which is exactly what just happened to Cap himself since he’s getting a new shield in Infinity War. Also a fun nod? A magnet was used to attach a new shield to the toy. There was a time in the comics when Cap used a magnetic glove to make sure his shield returned to him.
S2E04 AKA God Help the Hobo
We Prefer Gifted
The MCU has typically thrown around the word “enhanced” when it comes to people who were experimented on and ended up with abilities. “Gifted” is used less often simply because of its association with X-Men and the divide between Marvel Studios and FOX. It’s an interesting choice to have Jessica use the term (she also used it in season one) now that FOX has its own Marvel superhero show in The Gifted, which is set in the X-Men world.
Are you bulletproof?
I think Vito asks Jessica this as a nod to Luke Cage, but it could be a coincidence. He’s the only hero we know who got press for being bulletproof in the MCU though.
Hedy Wolfe
When audiences get a glimpse at the magazine cover highlighting Trish out with Malcolm, there’s a smaller headline that reads “Hedy Wolfe clashes with gal pal.” Hedy was one of Patsy’s costars in the comics.
S2E05 AKA The Octopus
Malcolm’s Painting
Funnily enough, Malcolm had a painting of an octopus in his living room in earlier episodes. I don’t know if someone in the writers room just really likes the animals or what.
“I know how you people like to team up.”
It does seem to be true in the MCU that one super powered person leads to a group. We’ve got the Defenders, the Avengers, the Secret Warriors, SHIELD itself, and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
David Kawecki
Not a comic book character, but I think this name might be a nod to Annette Kawecki. She was a cover artist and letterer for Marvel in the 70s. The promotional team for the show released posters/book covers for every episode this season all designed by women, so I like to think this was a purposeful shout out. Especially since the character liked to draw. I feel like there could be more names that acted as shout outs to women in the industry as well, but I didn’t catch them all.
Don’t smile.
Okay, probably not an intentional Easter egg, but you have to admit that seeing a guy tease Jessica not to smile when he’s taking her picture actually made you smile instead of the sick feeling provided by Kilgrave’s command for her to smile.
S2E06 AKA Facetime
Purple and Yellow
I’m sure everyone knows that purple makes up the primary color in Jessica’s show. Each of the Netflix Marvel series has a signature color, so when Jessica and Oscar get busy and knock the paint over, of course it’s purple. The color isn’t just a nod to Killgrave’s Purple Man, but also the color that dominates her comic book covers. The working title for the series is also Violet. Funnier to me is that during the sex, they also manage to knock over the yellow paint, even when Jessica tries to move the paint cans out of the way. Yellow is Luke Cage’s signature color. But maybe that’s just a coincidence.
Karl Malus
The doctor that did all that experimenting is based on a comic book villain. He wasn’t one of Jessica Jones’ villains though, but Jessica Drew. Rumor has it Jessica Drew could be making appearances in Spider-Man movies soon, so that seems appropriate.
Jessica’s Painting
Oscar’s painting for Jessica might have a pretty distinctive style if you’re familiar with the comics. David Mack creates art in that same style (pretty sure he’s who painted everything that belongs to Oscar) and designed comic book covers and posters for Jessica Jones.
S2E07 AKA I Want Your Cray Cray
Jessica’s Mom
The big reveal here is that Jessica’s mom is alive. In the comics, Alisa Jones is the name of the woman who adopts Jessica, not the name of her birth mother, but the show’s using the name all the same.
Gentech
Genetic Technology seems to be the fun way to name many a research company in the comics. So many companies get called “insert name here” Gentech. In fact, Maya Hansen worked for a company called Prometheus Gentech. So, it’s nice that carries over into the MCU as well.
That Music Video
Everybody else got some serious Britney Spears vibes from Trish’s music video, right? Similar aesthetic, similar pop music, and similar career path (at the time).
Jessica Campbell Jones
In the comics, the family that adopts Jessica has the last name Jones. Her birthname is Jessica Campbell. Since the show had Jones as her name from birth, adding in Campbell as her middle name was a nice touch.
“I’m gonna live forever.”
Yes, I think this is more of a reference to FAME than anything else since Trish wants to be seen as extraordinary. But maybe it’s also a hint to Patsy Walker’s comic book destiny of dying and only to get super powers in Hell and come back as the hero Hellcat.
I’d also like to point out how sad it is that Jessica’s love for boots and leather jackets, plus the name of her business, is the result of the last serious relationship she had before the mess she got into with Luke Cage. The past was haunting her even before Killgrave.
Touch of Evil
The rooftop movie that we get a scene from here is the 1958 film Touch of Evil which is actually famous amongst film critics for its tracking shots. Who else is famous from long tracking shots? That would be the Marvel shows. Every Marvel Netflix show (and Agents of SHIELD) has employed single take fight scenes.
S2E08 AKA Ain’t We Got Fun
The Raft
Yes, you might recognize the name of this prison. It made an appearance in Captain America: Civil War. You might remember it as the place in the middle of the ocean housing the Avengers that aligned with Cap. It was also in the comics before that.
Don’t feed the trolls
I feel like every woman in the entertainment industry has probably been told this about interactions on social media, so this line was probably easy for a show run by women to add in.
Trish Has Claws
Yes, she totally scratched up a guy’s face, a nice nod to the fact that Hellcat wears gloves with claws in the comics.
S2E09 AKA Shark in the Bathtub, Monster in the Bed
Stan Lee
He doesn’t have his usually police officer poster cameo. Instead, he appears on a poster advertising a law firm outside of Port Authority. Maybe he’s really a model?
Forbush
That law firm Stan is advertising is Forbush and Associates. Forbush-Man was a Marvel character. He was created for Marvel’s comedy magazine called Snafu. (Forbush also happens to be the last name of the police captain that Lee usually cameos as.)
S2E10 AKA Pork Chop
A Plant Based Component
I saw someone mention that the plant based component in the inhaler that couldn’t be identified might be a nod to Black Panther’s heart shaped herb. I like the idea, but I don’t think that’s the case.
“There’s a hole in your soul.”
This line reminded me of the fact that Trish’s mother actually attempts to sell Trish’s soul in the comics in order to extend her own life. Things like that are actually fairly common in the comics with things like the Darkhold, Ghost Rider, and Mephisto dealing with actually demons and a dimension that Mephisto likes to pretend is Hell.
S2E11 AKA Three Lives And Counting
Feline Distemper Vaccine
Amongst the things that Dr. Malus uses on Trish during the procedure to give her powers is the Feline Distemper Vaccine. Feline. Like for a Hellcat. The writers were not messing around with the Hellcat foreshadowing this season.
Cell Block D
Alisa was held in the same part of the prison that housed the Punisher and Kingpin. It’s where all the most dangerous Netflix criminals go.
S2E12 AKA Pray For My Patsy
WJBP
The station depicting the news has also appeared in other Marvel Netflix shows, and if I remember correctly, Agents of SHIELD.
“You can’t stop selling your daughter even if it kills her.”
Again, not just a reference to the fact that Dorothy Walker in an opportunist, but also to the fact that she tries to sell her daughter’s own soul in the comics.
Turk
Hey, look, it’s New York’s only street level arms dealer. Really, he’s appeared in every Netflix show so far, typically getting beat up by a hero for selling a weapon to a bad guy. At least this time around, he didn’t get beat up.
Doctors Giving Powers In Back Alleys
There’s this idea that people want superheroes so badly that they don’t care how they get them, appealing to shady doctors in suspicious areas to get the job done. This bit of dialogue is actually reminiscent of an Alias comic book storyline (that’s Jessica’s original comic book) that saw gangs kidnapping people with mutant abilities and harvesting Mutant Growth Hormone from them. It was made into a drug that they dealt.
S2E13 AKA Playland
You just used up two of your nine lives… not to mention those reflexes
Yet another nod to Trish and her feline ways, prompting more speculation that she’ll finally become Hellcat when she appears in the Netflix shows again. The end of the episode shows she’s got some super reflexes now, a reflection of her character’s agility in the comics.
In the real world, Yon-Rogg and friends watch as both your and Carol's body glows with your powers. You and Caro are done being their slave, and you hate that it took you this long to finally realize it.
"They're trying to break out," Korath gasps.
The heat you're giving off is too hot for the machine to handle, so you're able to break free from it as easily as breathing. Carol is able to do the same but something is different about her. Her whole body is glowing with her powers since she freed herself from the device on her neck. She blasts all Kree members into the walls behind them. Her eyes, including the whites, shine the exact same color as her powers to prove to the Kree that she's done being their doormat.
There isn't a lot of time before they regain their energy, so you grab the Tesseract and flee from the room with Carol. In one of the hallways is Fury and Maria fighting a few other Kree members. Carol isn't playing around; she blasts all of the Kree members into the walls, knocking them out easily.
"You know you're glowing, right?" Fury observes.
"We'll explain later." You open the lunchbox and present it to Fury who just stares at it. "Take the Tesseract, leave the lunchbox."
"Me?"
"Yes."
"I'm not touching that thing!"
"Do you want me to get you an oven mitt?"
Suddenly, Goose lurches herself toward the box and giant tentacles emerge from the inside of her mouth. The tentacles pick up the Tesseract and Goose swallows it whole before returning back to a normal cat. Fury drops her in shock but you and Carol aren't fazed by this.
"I've seen worse."
You close the lunchbox to make it look like you still have it with you.
"Get the Skrulls in the QuadJet and go. Take the Flerken with you," Carol advises.
"What about you two?"
"We'll buy you some time." You follow your girlfriend down the hall and into the main room of the entire lab. It's filled with useless junk that Mar-Vell thought she'd need but is no longer of use to anyone. Carol jumps up to the railing above her and sits on the edge with a smile. "What are you doing?"
"Just waiting. They'll come to us."
You fly up to her and lean against the railing next to her.
"You know, if this thing goes south, and we can't save everyone, just know I tried."
"Don't say things like that."
"I couldn't save my planet. Markus might still be out there. Sooner or later, my past is going to catch up to me."
"We're going to make it out of here. All of us will."
The two doors on either side of the platform where you and Carol are and the door down below open, allowing for eight Kree members to walk inside with only two things on their minds: Kill you and Carol, and get the Tesseract.
"Hey, guys! Arm wrestle for the Tesseract?"
"I used to find you amusing. Let's put an end to this!" Yon-Rogg yells.
The Kree on either side of you advance quickly, but Carol punches the bottom of the platform with her powers, sending a wave of energy throughout the entire lab. Four Kree are incapacitated by the falling debris, Carol is unharmed when she jumps down, and you fly next to the busted platform to avoid the sharp metal below. You land on the untouched side of the platform and turn to Minn-Erva who aims her gun at you.
"This is a little long overdue."
Before she can pull the trigger, you shoot a fireball past her head and into the metal cable holding the platform up.
"You missed."
"Did I?"
Your fire burns right through the metal like paper and it snaps like a bone. The platform and Minn-Erva go crashing to the ground in a cloud of smoke while you're flying in the air so you don't get hurt. You land on the ground and look out for Minn-Erva through the smoke which she uses to her advantage. She jumps out at you and tackles you to the ground, but you're quicker than she thinks you are. You hit her in the stomach with a strong gust of wind, and she goes flying across the room and into the wall behind her. She doesn't have time to react before you're grabbing her throat and pulling her in closer to you.
"You really should have been nicer to me."
The hand that's around her throat goes up in flames, burning the hell out of her skin. She screams and tries to put the fire out but the damage has already been done. Her throat has a huge hole where your fire once was, and she slumps to the ground, dead. You turn to help Carol but she's holding her own pretty well. She is fighting Korath but dominating the hell out of him. He grabs the pinball machine to wack her with, but you send a wave of water into his body, causing him to fall off balance.
Yon-Rogg was pinned beneath the wreckage when Carol busted through the platform above, but he modified his suit to move things telepathically. He moves the debris out of the way and stares at you and Carol with fire in his eyes. He stretches his arm out to use that same technology on you and Carol, and you two float in the air along with some metal shards. With his technology, he slams the two of you to the wall and uses the metal to keep you pinned there.
However, Carol is not about to let him win this way. She conjures up a lot of power and blasts the metal away, and Yon-Rogg shields his eyes to avoid the sharp metal. During all of this, the handle of the lunchbox was cut off, and the base of it fell to the ground. The box unlocks, revealing that the Tesseract is no longer in there. Yon-Rogg looks at the box and the smile is lost from his face.
"Nice diversion," he chuckles.
"I could've sworn we put it in there, right, Y/N?"
"Yeah, I remember us placing the Tesseract inside the lunchbox... I think," you play along.
Yon-Rogg can see this isn't going to play out well for him if he stays here, so he quickly turns and runs away like the coward he is. You'd go after him but two more Kree show up to keep you and Carol occupied while Yon-Rogg goes after the Tesseract.
"It's about to get hot in here!"
The Kree grabs some metal shards to throw at you, but you heat your body up to two thousand eight hundred degrees, which is the melting point for carbon steel. Carol takes a few steps back to protect herself from the heat you're radiating, but it doing a good job at protecting you from the shards the Kree is throwing at you. It melts before it can reach your body, so they grab their guns to use on you instead.
"Duck!"
You duck without questioning, and Carol crosses her arms in front of her before pulling them apart, and her powers hit every Kree in the room. Some of them died from the impact when they hit the walls while the others are knocked unconscious.
"Come on!"
You two run through the lab in search Yon-Rogg who found the small fighter jet packed inside. One of his other members is out trying to take down the spaceship with every Skrull, Maria, Goose, and Fury in it. Yon-Rogg is about to help when Carol jumps on top of the fighter jet. She is about to punch the glass right open when Yon-Rogg enabled it to take off. Both he and Carol fall through the opening into space.
"Carol!" you yell.
You jump in the hole to go after them, and your space suit covers your body to protect yourself against the harsh environment of space. You can't use your powers in space since there is no oxygen for you to manipulate, but you were able to modify your spacesuit with thrusters so you can use it instead of free falling. Yon-Rogg tries desperately to get Carol off his jet and decides to use his suit's technology instead of potentially crashing.
He flings her off, and she free-falls into Earth's atmosphere. She can't fly, and it's your job to save her before she crashes. As soon as you enter the atmosphere, you used your aerokinesis to fly faster to her. For a split second, Carol turns into Bucky, and you're brought back to the night the love of your life died.
No, this isn't happening again. You're not going to let another person you love die when you can do something about it.
"I'm coming, Carol!" You reach your hand out to grab her but it seems like she is always a tad longer than an arm's reach away. She closes her eyes to accept her fate, and you scream out to her. "No! Fight Carol! Fly!"
She opens her eyes but they aren't her normal color. Along with the whites, her entire eyeball is bright orange like the rest of her body. Her powers cover every inch of her body, and she jerks to the right and flies upward to save herself. You stop flying downward and watch her soar through the air much like you do when you're excited.
"This is awesome!!!" she laughs.
Yon-Rogg turns his craft around and heads right where you and Carol are, and you two smirk at each other when the same thought comes into both of your heads. With every ounce of strength, you two have, you punch the nose of the craft, sending Yon-Rogg off course. He spirals downward to Earth and crashes into the side of the mountain. You're about to go after him when you hear a booming sound come from above.
Something or someone is trying to enter Earth's atmosphere using jump points near the planet. You want nothing more than to go after Yon-Rogg but you have to deal with this new threat before anything else can happen. Carol is about to go up there and confront them when you stop her.
"I can't use my powers up there because there is no oxygen. In order for me to fight this war with you, I need to turn into you. I'll gain your abilities. Do I have your permission?"
"Yes," she nods. Your body transforms into Carol's like it's second nature to you, and she watches with a weird expression on her face. "That is not something I'll get used to."
"Come on, we need to go," you say using her voice.
She shakes off the initial surprise and takes off with you toward the new threat. The threat decides to launch an attack on Earth and sends a deadly missile toward the planet, but you and Carol aren't about to let it hit Earth. She grabs the missile by the nose and tries as hard as she can to stop it, and you help her turn it so that instead of flying toward Earth, it flies right into the other missiles flying behind it. They create a light show in the sky for whoever might be watching down below.
There are three alien spacecrafts in a row so you take the one on the right and Carol takes the one on the left. Both of you fly right into the side of the ship and go all the way through, punching through every wall and obstacle that gets in your way. Both ships explode as soon as you come out the other end, and the two of you meet in the middle right in front of the last one standing.
Wait, you know this craft. You know exactly who this is. Ronan is standing in a big room with a clear view of you and Carol. He and another man are talking but his eyes never leave you two. You grab Carol's hand and transform back into yourself, making sure to engage your spacesuit. Carol is the only thing holding you up right now, but you need to make sure Ronan knows it's you.
He locks eyes with you. His eyes narrow in anger knowing you're the one who destroyed his ships.
"What do we do, sir?" Ronan's right-hand man asks.
"Return to the jump point. We'll be back for their weapon."
"The Tesseract?"
"The woman." Ronan's eyes flicker from Carol to you. "Did you find Markus?"
"Yes, sir."
"Tell him we found her."
"Yes, sir."
Ronan returns back to the jump point knowing he's no match for you and Carol at this time. With him out of the way, you can focus on Yon-Rogg. When you enter the atmosphere, you use your powers to fly down to the ground with Carol. Yon-Rogg gets out of his jet and walks closer to you two. He has his weapons ready but puts them away after five minutes of just staring.
"I'm so proud of you," he says to Carol. "You've come a long way since I found you that day by the lake. Can you keep your emotions in check long enough to take me on? Or will it get the better of you, as always? I always told you that you'll be ready the day you can knock me down as yourself. This is that moment. This is that moment, Vers! Turn off the light show and prove to me, you can beat me with--"
Carol is done with his shit and blasts him back into the mountain with her powers.
"Thank you for doing that," you laugh.
Yon-Rogg can barely speak from trying to catch his breath, and he looks up at you two when you approach him.
"I have nothing to prove to you," she says calmly.
"I'm so proud of you," you grin and Carol blushes at the compliment.
Carol reaches her hand out for Yon-Rogg to take but instead of helping him up, she drags him to the fighter jet he stole. She shoves him inside and manipulates the controls to head back to Hala.
"Destination: Hala," the computer chirps.
"I can't go back empty-handed," Yon-Rogg sighs.
"You won't be empty-handed. I'm sending you with a message. Tell the Supreme Intelligence that I'm coming to end it. The war, the lies, all of it."
"You can't do this."
"Watch us," you grin and close the hatch.
To give the jet enough juice to make it back to Hala, Carol shot the engine with her powers. The jet immediately takes off and heads into the atmosphere with the intention of returning back to Hala.
"We did it!" you laugh.
You pull her closer to you and kiss her with a smile on your face. This is a victory kiss because she is now free from whatever the Kree did to her for the past six years.
Maria knows she has to do this with her best friend, so she calls her parents over to take care of her daughter. Maria tries to come up with an excuse as to why she's asking this, and you and Carol are off to the side with Monica.
"Your Mom's lucky. When they were handing out kids, they gave her the toughest one. Lieutenant Trouble," Carol smiles.
"You remembered!"
Carol had a whole life here without you, and seeing her with her other family gives you joy, but it also brings you pain when you think of how she was taken and the fact that she was taken in the first place.
"Is that mine?" Carol asks, noticing the jacket sitting on Monica's lap. The little girl starts to hand it over, but your girlfriend protests. "Oh, no. You hang onto it until I come back. There is something that I need your help with. I can't wear these Kree colors anymore, and since you're obviously the only person around here with any sense of style, why don't you give me a makeover?"
Carol stands and presses a few buttons on her wrist device that changes the colors of her outfit. Monica reaches over to try and goes through possible combinations such as bright red and grey stripes, orange, blue and yellow, black with neon stripes, and white with green stripes. None of them are the one until Carol sees the outfit Monica is wearing.
Red, blue, and gold.
"Well, since we're on the same team, why not those colors?"
Monica messes with the device once more, and Carol's suit changes to red and blue with a gold star on the front. This is it. This is the suit and colors that best suit her. She kind of reminds you of Steve when he got his suit, but you push back those painful memories of your best friend.
"How do I look?"
"Fresh," Monica smiles.
"We need to get going. Yon-Rogg will be here soon," you say.
Carol and Monica say their final goodbyes before everyone boards the big aircraft. Talos' science guy stays behind to pretend to be Carol to stall Yon-Rogg for however long. He knows he's going to die when he figures it out, but he's willing to risk his life if it means Talos gets home safe.
Since you're such a terrible pilot, Maria and Carol are at the front while you, Fury, Talos, and Goose are in the back. Fury is petting and comforting the animal while Talos stares at him with horror in his eyes.
"You know, you really shouldn't have that thing on your lap."
"Our little alliance with you is tenuous at best. As long as she continues to freak you out," Fury picks up the cat and shoves her in Talos' face, and the Skrull jerks back in fear, "like that, I'm gonna keep giving her all the love and hugs she needs, right?"
"Can I ask you two something?" Maria asks the two shapeshifters on board. "Do you just turn into anything you want?"
"I have to see it first."
"Those are my rules as well."
"Can you all do it?"
"Physiologically, yeah, but it takes practice and dare I say it, talent to do it well."
"Maria, I wasn't born like this. I was given a serum that gave me these powers, so there is only one of me."
"Can you turn into a cat?" Fury asks Talos.
"What's a cat?"
"That's a cat," you point to Goose.
"That's not a cat."
"What about a filing cabinet?" Maria asks.
"Why would I turn into a filing cabinet?"
"I don't know about the Skrulls, but I can only turn into living creatures no matter how small or the kind of species. If it's alive, I can turn into them."
"What else can you do?"
"Well, apart from shapeshifting, I am able to control the four main elements. Whatever you want to call it, I can do a lot of pretty awesome stuff."
"A venus fly trap!" Fury exclaims, still on the topic of shifting into things. "I'll give you $50 right now if you turn into a Venus fly trap."
"Switching engines from Scramjet to fusion. Buckle up, folks," Carol advises.
Everyone buckles up in case something goes wrong, and Carol lurches forward at high speeds. Due to the severe altitude, everyone is pushed back into their seats. The plane jerks like how a commercial airplane would.
"Is this normal? Like space turbulence?" Fury asks.
"Pretty much," Carol answers.
Talos grabs Fury's attention and shakes his head to say that this isn't normal. The plane continues to fly upward, and as soon as the plane reaches just outside Earth's atmosphere, the plane stops producing the flames needed in order to fly. Everything inside the plane starts floating due to the lack of gravity. Yours, Carol's, and Maria's hair float along with a few pens that weren't locked down. If you hadn't buckled in when you did, you too, would be floating in mid-air. Similarly, Goose is floating upside down until Fury extends his arm, which Goose eagerly grabs onto. Then, Maria flicks a switch and gravity suddenly turns on inside the plane.
"Locking in the coordinate grid," Carol announces.
However, the only thing in front of you is an empty pad of space. Maybe the coordinates are wrong or maybe the lab moved because it's not here anymore.
"Where is it?"
"It's here. It's gotta be here," Talos panics.
"Is it in front of all that nothing or behind it?" Fury asks sarcastically.
There has to be some reason why the coordinates led you to this empty space. Carol presses some buttons on her wrist device, and the process of decloaking begins. If this is where the coordinates are, and there is nothing here, then it must be invisible.
"Decloaking activated," the computer chirps.
Suddenly, a bright light appears from the empty space, and a massive laboratory becomes visible. The title "Mar-Vell's Laboratory, Kree Imperial Cruiser" appears on the screen inside the spaceship. Carol flies closer to the laboratory only to realize there's a loading dock for incoming ships. Once secured inside, you five leave the ship in curiosity.
"Are we alone?" you ask when you walk into the main room. Across the room is the Tesseract connected to a big machine, and you walk closer to it with tears in your eyes. This is what you've been waiting for for almost one hundred centuries. "I can't believe after all this time, it's been here. I thought this was in the ocean."
"Is that it? The core?" Maria asks.
"In her notes, she called it the Tesseract."
"This thing made me who I am today. This thing gave me my powers. This thing has been a pain in my ass this whole time!" you yell.
"It's okay," Carol whisper and puts her hand on your shoulder for comfort.
"No, it's not okay, Carol. This thing needs to be destroyed. All this thing is going to cause is pain."
Carol understands where you were coming from, but in order to understand its power, it needed to be saved. She grabs the cube and throws it in the air only to catch it like it was a fucking baseball and not a killing machine. This thing killed your best friend and boyfriend.
"Whoa. What was Lawson doing with all this kid stuff?" Maria asks and picks up a metal lunchbox.
Carol takes it from her, places the Tesseract inside, and locks it. You look around and take in your surroundings. There is something about this place, something off. On the glass table near the corner of the room is a mug with steaming hot tea in it.
You aren't alone.
"We're not alone."
Talos begins to sing loudly in his native tongue, and a swarm of scared Skrulls appears from their hiding places. An older one into the arms of Talos. If you had to assume, you'd guess that she is his wife, girlfriend, or sibling.
"Talos!"
"Soren," he sighs and hugs her tightly.
"He didn't come for the Tesseract." Soren calls forth a child, probably her own, and the child makes herself known willingly. Talos leans down to get a better look at the child with a huge smile on his face. "This is his family."
"We didn't know what to do. Mar-Vell warned us not to send a signal for any reason or the Kree would find us," Soren explains painfully.
"You did the right thing," Talos whispers.
When the excitement of the family reunion wears off, Soren notices the group Talos came in with. She grabs her child and holds her protectively, even when Talos calms her down.
"It's okay, it's okay. She's alright. She's a friend. They all are."
"I'm not gonna hurt you. We're not going to hurt you," Carol says.
"They led me to you."
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know."
"If only I had known," you sniffle.
"Carol, Y/N, this is war. My hands are filthy from it, too, but we're here now. You two found my family. This is just the beginning. There are thousands of us separated from each other. Scattered throughout the galaxy."
Another Skrull child approaches Carol once she knows it's safe and took her hand. She directs her over to a pinball machine in the corner. The child points to the high score in glowing lights and points to herself to say she won that many points.
"If I played the same pinball machine for six years I'd have some high scores too," Fury comments.
Suddenly, the doors to the lab open and Yon-Rogg and his team march through with determination. Upon seeing the Kree, Fury draws his gun but Minn-Erva already had hers directed at him. She gestures to him to drop it and he has no choice but to listen. Talos put his family behind him but Yon-Rogg couldn't care less about them right now. No, he's only interested in you and Carol. Seeing his bitch-ass face makes you see red, and your eyes shine red like fire as your hands glow the same color.
"Fraternizing with the enemy? Don't be stupid, Y/N, you'll kill everyone here," he points out. It's true. If you used your powers, you'll blow this entire ship to pieces. "What did you do to your uniform?"
"They got in her head. Just like we thought," Minn-Erica says.
"Oh, shut it, bitch," you growl.
"The Supreme Intelligence will set her straight," Korath says.
"You can see they're not soldiers, let them go. You can have me," Talos tries negotiating.
"And the core?"
"You lied to me," Carol glares.
"I made you a better version of yourself. What's given can be taken away," Yon-Rogg grins.
Carol tries as hard as she can to light up her fists, but they shortened out as if someone is controlling her powers from a distance. You notice something on her neck, something like a small device that is suppressing her powers. She doesn't know it's there or else she'd have taken it off a long time ago.
You turn to the other Kree and give them a malicious grin.
"I may not be able to use my fire power, but I have other ones."
The air around all of the Kree's heads begins to thin out while the air in the room stays the same. If they can't breathe, they can't fight. All of them gasp for air and fall to the ground, and you have to hold back your laughter. You're too busy focusing on them that you don't see Yon-Rogg sneak up behind you. He stabs something in the back of your neck, eliminating your powers for the moment.
"I've been waiting for this moment since I first saw you," he whispers.
He turns the device on and sends shockwaves down your body. With both you and Carol out of commission, the Kree can finally get what they came here to get.
When you wake up, you're not in Mar-Vell's ship anymore. No, you're in an all too familiar room with endless glossy floors and lights that descend from above. The man with jet-black hair stands in the middle of the room. Why does he look so familiar? When you think back to where you might know him, your head gets fuzzy and you get the worst headache ever.
Someone or something removed those memories from your head.
"There she is. I've got to say, I'm quite disappointed in you," the Supreme Intelligence says.
"There is no honor. The promise you made to me about honor and responsibilities is all a lie."
"Despite that, you performed well. You got us to the enemy. Thanks to you and jazz hands, those insidious shapeshifters will threaten our borders no more."
"I can't believe I ever thought the Kree would have the ability to change their ways. You're just as bad as Ronan. The Skrulls are just fighting for a home. You want to destroy them for what? Not submitting to your rules? Well, Carol and I won't do it."
You run at the man to attack him, but you go flying into the wall behind you with a flick of his wrist. You stick to the wall like glue so you're not going anywhere.
"It's cute how hard you try," he chuckles. "We needed you on this mission so you could lead us to the Tesseract. The power inside your veins wouldn't allow you to stay away. Plus, it is what you were looking for, yeah? You want to learn more about who you are and what Markus put into your body."
"How do you know about Markus?"
You slide through the sticky wall and come out on the other side where you can watch your memories play back in front of you.
"We know more than you think."
Each memory is of when Markus put you through each element trial. Through it all, the evil look on Markus' face never went away.
"You're no better than him," you turn to face the Supreme Intelligence.
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."
Okay, you're done with this shit. You need to escape or else he will keep you here for as long as he wants. You need to escape if you want to help the Skrulls win this war.
"Do you know what the difference between me and Carol is?" The fire within you heats up slowly, and your skin glows with the embers of a thousand fires. "You've been able to control her through the device you slapped on her neck, am I right? Well, news flash, bitch, you can't control me."
"Look what I got!" Monica says and races into the room with a box.
You and Carol walk over to Monica who is too eager to show her aunty the things she's saved for her. She begins with the pictures and explains them as she hands them over for Carol to look at.
"This is me and you on Halloween." The picture is of Monica and Carol with Monica dressed as a pilot and Carol in older clothing. "I'm Amelia Earhart and you're Janis Joplin." Monica takes out another picture of a young Carol standing next to her father. "Oh, this is you when you were little. You didn't get along with your parents so Mom said we became your real family." The third picture is of them at Christmas. "This is us on Christmas. I got more."
All the photos blend together and Monica's words fade into the back as Carol stares at herself through someone else's memories. Another picture is of Carol when she was little, and another when she graduated high school. This time, Carol lets the tears roll down her cheeks.
"How about we stop with the pictures, okay?" you ask gently.
"Okay," Monica takes them back. "Oh wait. I forgot, your jacket. Mom doesn't let me wear it anymore after I spilled ketchup on it."
Monica isn't here to shove things into Carol's hands, so Carol rummages through the box until she finds her old dog tags which had been burned in half.
"That was all that survived the crash, or so we thought," Maria explains.
"Are you okay?" you ask Carol and grab her hand.
"I don't know," she whispers. Someone knocks on the door and before Maria can get to it, Carol stops her. "Don't answer that."
"It's just my neighbor."
"They can change into anyone."
You, Carol, and Fury walk to the door carefully in case what's on the other side is a green alien pretending to be someone else. Carol opens the door and stares at a man who looks at her nervously.
"Hi, there."
"What do you want?" Carol asks with her eyes narrowed.
"Hey, Tom. This is my friend Carol and her girlfriend, Y/N," Maria introduces.
"Pleased to meet you." He holds out his hand, and when Carol grabs it, she sends a small wave of electricity through his body. "Yow! Static electricity out here's no joke. I noted that peculiar bird you got parked by the road, and I was just wondering if you'd mind if I bring the boys over to get a closer looksie?"
"A closer looksie?" you ask.
"Yeah."
"To see the bird parked out by the road? You're really working overtime to sell this one, aren't you Talos?"
"I'm sorry. Tom, this isn't really a good time. I'll come by tomorrow. Okay?" Maria says and slowly closes the door.
"Uh..."
"Okay."
"You know, you really should be kinder to your neighbors. You never know when you're gonna need to borrow some sugar."
The floorboards creak behind you and you turn to see Talos standing there in his true form with a shake in his hands. You and Carol hold up your hands in preparation for a fight, Fury aims his gun at Talos, and Maria stands there confused.
"Hang on a second, before you go swinging those jazz hands around and making a mess in your friend's house, hear me out."
"Oh, my God. What the hell?" Maria gasps.
You look out the window and see Monica outside with her mother, even though Maria is inside with you. The Skrull pretended to be her neighbor, then turned into Maria when it became relevant to him.
"No one's gonna hurt the girl. Just, don't kill me. It would really complicate the situation," Talos sighs.
"I'm about five seconds from complicating that wall with some ugly-ass Skrull brains," Fury threatens.
"I'm sorry I simmed your boss, but now I stand before you as my true self. Without deception."
"Who the hell is out there?" you ask.
"Okay, that's a fair point, but I'm sure that you understand, I had to take some precautions. I saw you two crush twenty of my best men with her hands bound. I just wanna talk."
"Last time we talked, we ended up hanging from our ankles."
"That was before I knew who you were. Before I knew what made you different from the others. I have an audio recording from Pegasus of your voice from a plane crash six years ago on a device I believe you call a 'black box'."
"They told me it was destroyed in the crash. How'd you get it?" Maria asks.
"Does she not understand? Young lady, I have a special skill that kinda allows me to get into places I'm not supposed to be in."
"Call me young lady again, and I'm gonna put my foot in a place it's not supposed to be," she glares.
"Am I supposed to guess where that is?"
"Your ass," you, Fury, and Carol say at the exact same time.
"Okay, I get it. We're all a little on edge here. Look, I just need your help decoding some coordinates. If you sit down and listen to this, I assure you, it'll be worth your while."
"Call your buddy back inside and I'll listen," Carol crosses her arms.
"Deal," he nods. Goose walks into the room and presses herself against Talos' legs. When he feels the small creature, he bounces back in fear. "Oh, my God! Get that thing away! How'd that get in here?"
Carol picks up the cat and holds her toward Talos. The more she walks to him, the more he steps back until he can't go any further.
"The cat? This isn't what you're afraid of, is it?"
"That's not a cat. That's a Flerken."
"A Flerken?" Fury laughs.
"Mom?"
All heads turn to see Monica there with the Skrull behind her. The Skrull transforms back into his true self, and he shrugs knowing he was just following orders.
"Come here, baby." Monica runs into her mother's arms, and she kisses the top of her head. "I have somewhere we can listen to that thing, but it's not here."
Maria has a study out back that is secluded enough to have this kind of conversation. Monica waits outside wearing headphones so she doesn't hear what's being said. She's too young to understand, and she would only get in the way at this point. Maria grabs the tape from Talos and puts it into her computer. The computers that Howard Stark had back then world a bit faster than this, but it eventually loads, and the audio clip plays.
"Punch in the coordinates. 5229,. -47, 8.768, 0.2," Lawson said.
"Copy that. Where are we going Doc?" Carol's voice came next.
"My laboratory."
"Your laboratory? What do you mean?"
"Oh, no."
"Is that...? Wait, what is that? It's not showing up on my radar!"
Carol, the woman you love, is confused but angry for not remembering this. You take her hand and she holds it tightly.
"Go Carol. Fly!" Lawson urged.
The sounds of planes rushing around and weapons being fired are all that can be heard until you hear Carol's voice.
"That's no MIG, Lawson. Who the hell are they?"
"Those are the bad guys. Fly faster, now."
"Yes, ma'am. What do they want?"
"Me. My work. I never should have brought you along," Lawson said regretfully.
"Here come some G's."
You're not sure what's happening since there is no video involved, but you can assume that Carol and Lawson tried so hard to get whoever is chasing them off their tail. Something hits the plane, causing it to fall back down to Earth.
"Bail out! Bail out! Bail out! Stay with me, Lawson!"
There are sounds of a crash, then nothing until you hear faint voices being picked up from the recorder that is still playing.
"Danvers, do you copy?" Maria asked over comms.
"Yeah, I copy. On the ground," Carol assured. "Your blood... it's blue."
"Never mind that. How's my hair?" Lawson jokes. "Help me out." When she does, Lawson groaned in pain. "I have to destroy it before they get here."
"What? Lawson?"
"You remember what I said about our work here? What it's for?"
"To end wars?"
"Yeah, but the wars are bigger than you know. You should know my name is not Lawson. My real name is Mar-Vell and I come from a planet called Hala."
"I would say that your delusional but we just got shot down by a spaceship, and your blood is blue."
"Listen, I spent half my life fighting a shameful war. Now, skedaddle before you give me any more regrets. Just remember the coordinates, okay? You've got to save them without me."
"Save who? How?" Carol asked.
"I've got to blow this engine before they find it."
Someone fires their weapon, and based on how Carol cried out, it was Mar-Vell that got hit.
"We have no interest in hurting you," Yon-Rogg said.
"What the fuck?" you gasp.
He was involved since the beginning. You knew something was off about that man, and this proves it.
"No?! Because all the shooting kinda gave the wrong impression!" Carol yelled.
"Where is the energy core?"
"Pararescue's on the way. You have two minutes until you're surrounded," Carol gritted out.
"Then I see no reason to prolong this conversation," Yon-Rogg laughed.
"No, wait! Do you mean that energy core?"
Some more silence follows her words. Then, a loud explosion happens; the same explosion that came from the energy core being shot at. If you had to guess what's happening is that when Carol blew up the engine, she absorbed the Tesseract's power, which gave her the powers she has today.
That's how she ended up on Hala. Her life was stolen from her.
"Commander, she's still moving. Permission to fire?" Minn-Erva said.
That bastard knew everything that happened.
"Hold your fire."
"There's nothing left. The core has been destroyed."
"She absorbed its power. She's coming with us," Yon-Rogg decided.
The audio clip ends there, and Carol storms out of the barn to grab some air. You quickly follow with everyone else behind you.
"Carol--"
"He fucking lied to me!" she yells as her hands glow bright orange.
"Carol! Look at me." You grab her hands to calm her down. "I need you to calm down if we're going to try and sort this out."
"He lied to me," she sniffles with tears in her eyes.
"I know, and trust me when I say this... I will make him pay."
"You were right. Everything that I knew was a lie."
"Now you understand," Talos says from behind.
"What? What do I understand now?" Carol shouts.
"Yon-Rogg killed Mar-Vell. He killed her because she found out that she was on the wrong side of an unjust war."
"No. Your people are terrorists that kill innocents. I saw the ruins on Torfa."
"Ruins that the Accusers are responsible for. My people lived as refugees on Torfa. We became homeless ever since we resisted the Kree rule, and they destroyed our planet. The handful of us that are left will be slaughtered next unless you help me finish what Mar-Vell started. The coordinates you found would've powered a lightspeed ship capable of carrying us to safety. A new home where the Kree can't reach us."
"They're not the bad ones, Carol. The Kree are. You know what they did to me before I met you. They haven't changed," you try to persuade her.
"Lawson always told us that her work at Pegasus wasn't to fight wars, but to end them," Maria adds.
"She wanted you to help us find the core."
"Well, apparently, I already destroyed it."
"No, you destroyed the engine. The core that powered it is in a remote location. If you help us decode those coordinates. We can find it."
"You'll use it to destroy us," she glares.
"We just want a home," Talos sighs. "You and I lost everything at the hands of the Kree. Can't you see it now? You're not one of them. You never were."
"You don't know me. You have no idea who I am. I don't even know who I am!" she yells.
"You are Carol Danvers," Maria says and walks closer to her. "You are the woman on that black box risking her life to do the right thing. My best friend who supported me as a mother and a pilot when no one else did. You're smart, funny, and a huge pain in the ass. You are the most powerful person I know, way before you could shoot fire from your fists. Do you hear me?"
"We need to find that core and destroy the Kree once and for all. They haven't changed one bit," you back up Maria.
"I know I don't deserve your trust but you two are our only lead," Talos says. "We discovered that both of your energy signatures matched Mar-Vell's core. Now, we know why. If only you knew the importance of it to me. I just need your help decoding the coordinates to Mar-Vell's lab."
"Those weren't coordinates. They're safe vectors," Carol explains. "Orbital positioning and velocity."
"You didn't find her lab on Earth, because it's not on Earth," you say.
"That was the location on the day of the crash six years ago. If we track its course, we'll find it in orbit right now."
"It's just basic physics."
"In orbit?" Talos looks at his friend who just shrugs. "Was that so difficult to figure out? I mean, you're my science guy, right?"
"Yon-Rogg will catch up to you soon. We've got to get the core before he does," Carol says.
"Let me stay down here. I'll kick his ass," you growl.
"I need you with me," Carol whispers to you. "I can't do this without you."
"I'll stay and simm Carol," the scientist states.
"Mmm. So, the rest of you are going to space? In what?"
"A few tweaks to your vessel should do it. I can handle the modifications," the scientist offers.
The plane you came here in is the one you're going to go to space in. Talos' science guy isn't too bright when it comes to figuring out where Mar-Vell's lab is, but he is damn good at modifying the plane to endure the height and possibly space. While they're doing that, you and Carol are talking to Maria and her daughter inside.
"Well, I could use a co-pilot. God knows she can't fly a plane," Carol jokes and nudges you in the ribs.
"I never needed to when I can fly," you brag.
You and Carol look at Maria who widens her eyes in realization.
"No. No, I... I can't. I can't leave Monica."
"Why? It's okay. I can stay with grandma and pop-pop."
"There's no way I'm going baby. It's too dangerous."
"Testing brand new aerospace tech is dangerous. Didn't you used to do that?"
"Your plan is to leave the atmosphere in a craft not designed for the journey, and you anticipate hostile encounters with a technologically superior foreign enemy. Correct?"
All she gets in return is a shrug from Carol.
"That's what I'm saying. You have to go."
"Monica..."
"You have the chance to fly the coolest mission in the history of missions, and you're gonna give it up to sit on the couch and watch Fresh Prince with me? I just think that you should consider the kind of example you're setting for your daughter," she manipulates.
"I like her," you grin.
You leave her side and find the 'T' section for Tesseract. If they have knowledge about it, what else do they have about it? The box is pretty empty since there isn't a lot of information on it, but you go through it with a fine-tooth comb. The only thing they know is that it's a box with an insane amount of power that can create portals. They got it from Howard Stark after Steve went into the ice. They tried testing it as a weapon, but it had a mind of its own, so Dr. Lawson took over and used it for her light-speed tech.
You're about to put the box back when you notice something at the very bottom. Interdimensional Republic. That's the company Markus owned. There isn't much on the company except that when the Tesseract opened a portal, they saw that name on a huge building before the portal closed. You sigh in relief and put the box back knowing that Markus will never find this place... if he's even out there.
You leave Vers to keep researching while you walk into the hallway to give yourself a breather. You're alone for maybe ten minutes before the sound of shoes clicking on the glossy floor sounds. You look up and see a man in his fifties walking toward you. You make the mistake of looking him in the eyes as he passes by you, and he stops and walks back over to you.
"I recognize you."
"Excuse me?"
"1945. Your face is plastered all over the newspapers from that time, and you even have your own section in the Smithsonian. You fought with Captain America."
"I'm sorry, you must have the wrong person."
"Well, then you won't care if I tell the authorities you're here."
"No!" you say too quickly. "What do you want?"
"I'm here to give you an opportunity. SHIELD is made up of dicks who only care about money and the power they hold. If you want to do something good in this world, join my side." He takes out one of his business cards and hands it to you. "I could use someone like you."
The mysterious man walks off without another word, and you look at the card he gave you. Dr. Hank Pym with Pym Technologies. You're not sure what he's up to, but you already have a big problem on your hands. Still, you put the car in your pocket and head back inside the archive's room.
Vers is over by the phone on the wall with her wrist device attached to the wires like she did when you first landed on Earth.
"Vers, what are you doing?"
"The only way we can know for sure about what happened is to talk to Maria. We need to contact Yon-Rogg. He will know what to do."
"Why? We've already gotten so much progress here ourselves because he's not here to screw it up. Do you see what using your powers can do? He's trying to manipulate you like every other Kree does."
Vers is confused about who to believe and who to trust, but she goes ahead and makes contact with Yon-Rogg despite what you've said.
"I know Lawson was Kree," she says before he has a chance to say anything. "She was here on C-53 and died in a plane crash. Do you know anything about this?"
"I just discovered a mission report sent from C-53. There's only so much I'm cleared to tell you Vers and Y/N, but Lawson was an undercover Kree operative named Mar-Vell. She was working on a unique energy core and experimenting with tech that apparently could help us win the war."
"Does it say anything about me? Or us?" you ask.
"Anything about you two? No, of course not. Why would it?"
"I found evidence that I had a life here," Vers confesses.
"On C-53?" he stutters.
"Mar-Vell is who I see as the Supreme Intelligence. I knew her, and I knew her as Lawson."
"This sounds like Skrull simulation, Vers."
"No, don't try and spin this off as some twisted delusion of your own," you growl.
"I remember I was here!"
"Stop! Remember your training. Know your enemy. It could be you. Do not let your emotions undermine your judgment."
"Go to hell." You hang up the phone. "Do not listen to him, Vers. He's manipulating you!"
"Where's Fury?"
"He's probably lost or captured. Come on."
You two leave the records room and head for the stairs. Just upon reaching the landing, you hear voices coming from above. You pull Vers into you and cover her mouth with your hand to let her know to be quiet.
"Fury's colluding with the target."
"Then why did he call us in?" a man that sounds like Agent Coulson asks.
"All I know is that we take him in too. Dead or alive."
Fury might have called them in, but you can't leave him here to get captured by who he thought was on his team. You wait for the two men to leave before heading back to the archive's room. Inside is Fury and his director fighting each other. You don't think someone's boss will pull a gun on their employee, which can only mean that the director is a Skrull looking for you and Vers. Vers blasts the director away from Fury, and he looks grateful for the save. She blasts the ceiling to use as a quick escape, and this is where you come in. You grab both of them and fly them through the hole Vers made.
"You called them in?" you scold.
"My bad!"
You find the staircase and yank the door open only to see Agent Coulson with a gun pointed at you. Vers' fists glow orange, but you put a hand to her hand to stop her from hurting Phil. Fury and Coulson have a silent conversation with their eyes, and Fury begs him not to give you away.
"Coulson, do you have eyes on them?" an agent says from above.
He takes five seconds to speak.
"They're not down here. Let's try another floor."
You three pass him on your way down to the hangar where all the airplanes are. Vers grabs a long metal pole and shoves it through the handlebars so that if someone were to try to use the door from the other side, it won't open. Once she knows it's safe, she holds her hand out as if she expects something from Fury. When he makes no move to acknowledge her, she hits his arm and holds out her hand again.
"What?"
"Give me your communicator. You obviously can't be trusted with it."
Fury sighs and hands over his pager to her just as agents slam into the locked door next to you.
"Come on!" you urge.
There isn't much to hide behind, but you manage to hide behind some large boxes that are ready to be shipped out. Agents break the door down to get inside the large room, and you weigh your options of escaping this unharmed. Vers spots one of the planes that can be used as a quick escape, and she nudges you and Fury.
With a mutual agreement, you stay hidden as you make your way over to the plane. Vers got behind the wheel, Fury took the passenger seat, and you got in the seat behind Vers. She begins messing with the controls as if she knows what she's doing. If what her memories show is true, then flying something like this is second nature to her.
"Do you know how to fly this thing?" Fury asks.
"Uh... we'll see."
"That is a yes or no question," Fury gasps.
Whatever Vers is doing is right because the engine roars to life and the doors close behind you. She pushes the lever forward which causes the plane to hover in the air.
"That's what I'm talking about!" Fury laughs.
When the agents below hear the plane take off, they start shooting at it aimlessly. It does nothing and allows Vers to fly out of the underground tarmac area, and over the open desert before gaining altitude very quickly. Suddenly, a small meow comes from the back of the plane where a meow shouldn't be. All three of you look back and see Goose pushed against a crate.
"We've got a stowaway," Fury says.
"Hang on, Goose."
Vers straightens the plane, allowing Goose to push off the crate and onto the ground. She happily walks over to Vers and jumps onto her lap, and your girlfriend moves her over to Fury.
"Who's a good kitty huh? Huh, Goose? Yes, that's right. Who's a good kitty, Goose? You're a good kitty," Fury coos.
Vers reaches into her pocket and takes out the photograph she stole of Wendy, Maria, and her in the background, and hands it to Fury.
"Do you see anyone you know? Six years ago, I arrived in Hala, near dead with no memory. I think I'm the pilot that went down with Dr. Lawson, and if not, then the last person to see them both alive is Maria Rambeau."
"How do we get to Louisiana?"
"Due East and hang a right at Memphis," Fury jokes.
"You must have taught Agent Coulson right because I appreciate the way he stuck up for us."
"Yeah, he's the new guy. I guess he doesn't hate me yet."
"Give him time," you joke.
"I guess he had a feeling and went with his gut against orders. It's a really hard thing to do. That's what keeps us human."
"I get in trouble for that. A lot," Vers sighs.
"Yeah by an ignorant asshole who gets off on manipulation," you comment.
"I can see that about you, and even you too, Y/N. Rescuing the guy who sold you out to the Skrulls. I guess that's not standard Kree operating procedure."
"Well, I won't tell your boss if you don't tell mine."
"He won't be hearing about this from me," you smirk.
Vers flies the aircraft all the way to Louisiana where Maria Rambeau is. She is very isolated from most of the population, but it's nice to see such big trees and open fields around her house. Next to her house is a shop used to fix cars, or in her case, planes. When you get a closer look at the shop, you can see a woman tinkering on a two-seater plane. This is Vers' moment since she knew Maria back in the day.
"Excuse me, I'm looking for Maria Rambeau."
The woman jumps in surprise and a little girl identical to the older woman jumps out of the plane. She runs over to Vers with an excited look on her face as if she knows who she is.
"Aunty Carol! Mom, it's Aunty Carol. I knew it! Everybody said you were dead but we knew they were lying."
The little girl hugs Vers who is apparently named Carol. Your girlfriend stands awkwardly, unaware of who this child is. Maria walks closer to Vers with an unsure look on her face like she can't believe what she's seeing.
"I'm not really who you think I am," Vers says.
Maria isn't sure if this is her friend or not, but she wants to hear what Vers has to say. Monica, Maria's daughter, and Maria are sitting with you, Vers, and Fury in the living room so you can explain to them what happened after the plane crash. Vers' name isn't even Vers. It's the name that the Kree gave her to help conceal her identity.
Her real name is Carol Danvers.
"That is the craziest shit I've ever heard," Maria chuckles once you're done explaining.
"Green-transforming aliens? There's no such thing," Monica says.
"I'm an alien," you shrug.
"You're absolutely right, young lady. There is no such thing because if there were, we would want to keep that to ourselves," Fury says and looks at you accusingly.
"You want proof?"
Carol gets up and walks over to the tea kettle on the stove in the kitchen. She grabs the sides of the kettle and uses her powers to heat the tea inside. You raise your hand and use your air powers to open the cabinet and float one of the tea cups over to where Carol is. Maria and Monica stand up in fascination and curiosity.
"No way. That is so cool," Monica grins.
"They can do a lot more than just make tea with those hands," Fury scoffs.
"Like what? Show us."
"Maybe later," Carol chuckles.
"I kept all your stuff, I'll go get it," Monica says and rushes out of the room.
"You want to give her a hand with that?" Carol asks Fury who nods.
He leaves the room to give Carol and Maria some time alone together, and you get up to leave when Carol grabs your hand. This is all so new to her, but you're her safety net. She trusts you with her life, so she needs you here in case something goes wrong.
"So, her name is Carol?" you ask Maria.
"Yeah. You don't remember anything?"
"I see flashes of little moments, but I can't tell what's real. If I could just piece together what happened that morning, maybe it'll all make sense."
"You were banging on my door at dawn and woke me up. I didn't think anything of it because that's what you normally did. Back then, we had to get up so early. The Air Force wasn't letting women fly in combat, so testing Lawson's planes was our only shot at doing something that mattered. That morning, you wanted to race to the base but your old Mustang was nothing compared to my Camaro. You cheated and took a shortcut," Maria laughs at the memory.
There are tears in Carol's eyes at the thought of her stolen life, but she doesn't let them fall.
"Since when is a shortcut cheating?"
"Since it violates the predetermined rules of engagement."
"I definitely don't remember those."
"Mmm, of course, you don't." They both laugh like old friends. "When I got to the hanger, Lawson was agitated, because she had lives to save. She was trying to take the Aces up herself, but you said—"
"If there were lives at stake, I would fly the plane," Carol finish for her.
"Yup. Big hero moment. The kind of moment we've both been waiting for. The Doc was always unique. That's why I liked her, but now you're saying she's from another planet."
"I know this must be hard for you," you comment.
"What, this part right here? No. Do you know what's hard? Losing my best friend in a mission so secret they act like it never even happened. Hard is knowing you were out there somewhere, too damn stubborn to die. Now you come up in here after six years with your super-charged fire hands and magical friend, and you expect me to call you... I don't even know what... 'Vers'? Is that really who you are now?"
"I don't know," Carol sighs.
The internet is a widely popular thing where people can use a computer to look up information readily available at their fingertips. The only places where computer use is free or at very little charge are local libraries. You take Vers to the closest one and over to the nearest computer. You're not used to using one of these, but it looks like something Howard Stark used in his labs.
Plus, you're an expert at using a typewriter.
"How are you doing that?" she gasps when your fingers swiftly fly over the keyboard.
"As I said, I've been here before." The only thing that pops up when you search the name "Pancho's" is a bar that's down south. You tap the screen with a smile on your face. "This is where we need to go."
"How are we gonna get there?"
"By using a map, darling. Come on."
You log off the computer and buy a map from the front desk. It's a localized map of California, so you can use this to track down the bar. As you two are looking at the map, a motorcycle rumbling noise comes closer until it's right next to you. He sees you two and revs his engine with a smirk.
"Nice scuba suit," he comments about Vers' outfit. Both you and her look at the man before going back to the map. "Lighten up, sweethearts. Got a smile for me?" When he gets no response from you, he shuts his motorcycle off with a scoff. "Freaks."
"What do you say we go for a ride?" you grin when he leaves his motorcycle alone.
"You know how to ride one of those?"
"Baby, it's all I rode in the 40s. My boyfriend taught me. First, we need to change. He's right, we do look like freaks." You notice a store across the street with mannequins on display outside of it. "Shall we?"
It's fairly easy to steal clothes off unsupervised mannequins from a store with no security measures. It's even easier to steal a motorcycle from a man who leaves the keys in the ignition. Vers gets on behind you and wraps her arms around your waist right before you take off down the road.
Yes, you could get to Pancho's faster by flying, but it's nice to enjoy the scenic route when there isn't someone chasing you or trying to kill you. It's nice to see how much Earth has changed since you left. Granted, you haven't been on the West Coast in centuries, so it's nice to see how the oceans look compared to back then.
The drive from Northern California to Los Angeles is a long one, but you manage to make to Pancho's with the sun still out. This place is definitely old school but you figured that's why you love it so much. There isn't anyone inside the bar but since Skrulls be anywhere anytime, you have to be careful.
There are pictures on the wall that Vers is attracted to, pictures with the same aircraft logo you saw on the purple device you stole from the Skrull.
"What can I get ya?" the bartender asks.
"Where was this photograph taken?"
"At an airport?"
"Where's Pegasus?" she asks.
"That's classified. Not unlike the file I started on you two." Agent Fury stands at the entrance of the bar. The bartender senses tension, so he does the smart thing and walks to the back. "I see you traded in the laser tag outfit for this. Grunge is a good look on you two."
"Did you have a rough day Agent Fury?"
"It's cool. You know, space invasion, big car chase, and got to watch an alien autopsy. Typical nine to five."
"So, you saw one?" you ask.
"I was never one to believe in aliens, but I can't unsee that."
"This is gonna get a little awkward but I gotta ask," Vers trails off.
"You think I'm one of those green things?"
"Can't be too careful," you shrug and sit with him and Vers at a table.
"You are looking at one hundred percent red-blooded Earthman."
"I'm afraid we're gonna need proof."
"Are we talking cheek swabs or urine samples?"
"No. The DNA would match," you comment. "Skrulls can only sim recent memories of their host bodies."
"Oh, oh! You wanna get personal," he grins and nods for you to start.
"Where were you born?" you ask.
"Huntsville, Alabama, but technically I don't remember that part."
"Name of your first pet."
"Mr. Snuffers."
"Mr. Snuffers?" Vers chuckles.
"That's what I said. Did I pass?"
"Not yet. First job?"
"Soldier straight out of high school. I got the ranks of full-bred Colonel."
"Then?"
"Spy."
"Where?"
"It was the Cold War and we were everywhere. Belfast, Bucharest, Belgrade, and Budapest. I like the B's. I can make them rhyme."
"Now?"
"I've been riding a desk for the past six years trying to figure out where our future enemies are coming from. It never occurred to me that they'd be coming from above," he says and points to the ceiling to represent space.
"Name a detail so bizarre a Skrull could never fabricate it," you ask and lean in closer.
"If toast is cut diagonally, I can't eat it," he says. "You didn't need that did you?"
"No, I didn't, but we enjoyed it," you giggle.
"Okay, your turn. Prove you two aren't Skrulls," Fury asks.
Without a second though, Vers blasts an energy blast towards the jukebox on the opposite side of the room. You move your right hand in a circular motion and a pool of water forms above it. Once big enough, you evaporate it so it's no longer there.
"How is that supposed to prove to me that you two aren't Skrulls?"
"That was a photon blast."
"I just manipulated water out of thin air."
"And...?"
"A Skrull can't do that. So, a full-bred Colonel turned spy turned SHIELD agent must have pretty high-security clearance. Where's Pegasus?" Vers asks.
Fury doesn't respond to you, so you lean in close with a threatening smile on your face.
"Take us to Pegasus or we'll find someone who will," you say seriously.
Fury sees an opportunity to get to know you and Vers, so he agrees to take you and Vers to the super-secret location.
"So, the Skrulls are an alien race that infiltrates and overtakes alien planets? You two are Kree? A race of noble warriors?" Fury asks as he drives through the desert.
"Heroes. Noble warrior heroes," Vers corrects.
"Well, she's Kree," you speak up from the backseat.
"What are you?"
"Xenian. My planet is on the other side of the universe. I'm also a shapeshifting Avatar that can control the elements. No, I'm not a Skrull."
"Okay, um, what do the Skrulls want with Dr. Lawson?"
"They believe she developed a light-speed engine at Pegasus."
"Light speed engine? I've got to admit, that's not the craziest thing I've heard today."
"Well, it's still early," you chuckle.
"What about you two? What do you want?"
"To stop the Skrulls before they become unstoppable."
"And...?" You and Vers are silent at his question. "Look, war is a universal language. I know a couple of rogue soldiers when I see one. You two have a personal stake in this."
"More so than others," you mutter.
Fury pulls up to the perimeter gate where there is a box meant for communicating to the main tower.
"This is a government property, turn your vehicle around," an officer says through the intercom.
"Nicholas Joseph Fury, Agent of SHIELD," Fury says and takes out his badge to show it to the camera.
"Place your thumb on the pad." When Fury did, the pad begins scanning his fingerprint. "One moment."
"Nicholas Joseph Fury. You have three names?" Vers asks.
"Everybody calls me Fury. Not Nicholas, not Joseph, not Nick. Just Fury."
"What does your mom call you?"
"Fury."
"What do you call her?"
"Fury."
"What about your kids?"
"If I have them, they'll call me Fury."
"You're cleared for access," the officer says.
"Thank you."
The gate opens and Fury drives down the long driveway into a tunnel that leads him into a parking lot of sorts where he is the only car there. You're about to head inside with Vers when Fury stops both of you.
"Hold up. You two look like somebody's disaffected niece." He grabs two gray SHIELD baseball caps and tosses them to you two. "Put these on."
"What is this?"
"It's the SHIELD logo."
"Does announcing your identity on clothing help with the covert part of your job?"
"Said the space soldier who was wearing a rubber suit. Lose the flannel." Vers takes off the flannel that is wrapped around her waist, and you two follow the Agent to the end of the car park that overlooks an airplane hangar full of planes. A security guard from Pegasus and two armed airmen approaches you three carefully.
"How can I help you?"
"We're agents of SHIELD," Fury announces and hands over his credentials. "We're looking for a woman named Dr. Wendy Lawson. Do you know her?"
"Follow me."
The officers lead you into the building and into a small room that looks like a waiting room. When he closes the door with only you three inside, you knew he has no intention of bringing you to Dr. Lawson even if she was here.
"Are you two familiar with the phrase 'Welcome Wagon'?"
"No."
"Well, this ain't it."
He places his thumb on the fingerprint scanner attached to the doorknob, but it won't give him access to unlock the door. Fury grabs a small device from his pocket, and Vers perks up at the sight of it.
"Is that a communicator?"
"Yeah. State-of-the-art two-way pager."
"Who are you paging?" you wonder.
"My mom. Don't worry, I didn't mention you two."
Vers tries using her fingerprint on the scanner even though she knows it's not going to work. There is a map of the facility on the wall that she checks out, so you decide to try your turn at the scanner. Instead of using your own DNA, you shift into the guard that took you in here knowing his fingerprint is going to work. Just like you thought, the light turns green, and the lock disengages.
"I got it."
Vers and Fury jump back from shock at your deep voice.
"What in the hell...?" Fury mutters.
You transform back into yourself and open the door with a smile.
"Easy peasy lemon squeezy. My powers aren't totally useless here."
"Impressive," Vers grins.
With the map in hand, you head to the nearest elevator so you can check out the archives. If any place is going to have information on Pegasus and Dr. Lawson, it's the archives. Immediately after stepping off the elevator, an orange cat appears and rubs all over Fury's leg.
"Hey, there. How are you?" Fury fawns over the small animal. He leans down to pet her, and Vers watches with a strange sense of déjà vu. "Oh, my goodness. Look at you. Just look at you. Aren't you the cutest little thing? Aren't you cute? What's your name, huh? What's your name?" Fury looks at her collar. "Goose? Cool name for a cool cat."
"Fury," you say with a smile. "Are you done?"
"Yeah." The door to the archives is protected by another fingerprint scanner, and Fury turns to you. "Are you gonna do what you did last time?"
Vers shoots an energy blast at the scanner. That's one way of unlocking a door. The archives room is completely dark but the further you walk in, the lights turn on since they are motion censored. There are hundreds of shelves with hundreds of boxes of all different types of information, but the only thing you're interested in is Wendy Lawson. They are in alphabetical order, so you head over to the 'L' section for Lawson.
"I found it," Vers says and removes the box about her. "Here's Lawson's plan for the light-speed engine." At the bottom right of the plans is a stamp concurring that the project was terminated. "I wonder why they terminated the project."
You grab a small notebook and go through the pages, but you don't recognize the language.
"What the hell is this?"
"Those are Kreeglyphs. She was Kree?"
"She's dead," Fury announces.
"What?"
"She crashed the ASIS aircraft during an unauthorized test flight and took a pilot down with her. That's why security here's so unfriendly. They're covering up a billion-dollar mistake. Oh, and your light-speed engine is toast."
He shows you the papers in his hands that confirm his story. There is a black-and-white photo of the crash site. It was taken from a satellite between a beach and a mountain, and there are tracks leading up to the circle caused by the explosion. The next photo is of the beach from eye level; the sand was pushed up into large ridges by the explosion.
"When did this happen?" Vers whispers.
"Six years ago. 1989."
"Who was the pilot?" you ask.
"Most of this thing is redacted, but there is a testimonial here from someone named Maria Rambeau. She's the last person to see them both alive." Fury's pager buzzes to life, but he catches the look on Vers' face before he could answer it. "Are you okay?"
"Mm-hmm," she nods stiffly.
"I'll be back in a minute."
Fury leaves, and Vers searches the box for more information on what happened. There is a photograph of Dr. Lawson, Maria, and another pilot near an airplane, but the one person who you and Vers stare at is Vewrs who was getting ready to board the plane. She was involved in the accident at some point, but you have no idea what happened to her and how she got involved with the Kree. You look back at the notebook and flip some more pages, and you stop on one that has a familiar-looking drawing.
"Vers, what does this say?" you ask and show her the notebook.
"It's the energy core that she used to build her engine with. She calls it the Tesseract." Your whole body shakes with shock, and your knees buckle underneath you. "Whoa, are you okay?"
"The Tesseract is what runs through my veins. It's why I can manipulate the elements."
"I wonder if it connects you and me. Maybe we share the same power. The Tesseract must run through both of our bodies, but we have different powers because you have another serum inside you.
"I'll be right back."
You two escape through one of the doors when it is clear. The ship is big but you have to keep running even though you don't know where you're going. A group of five Skrulls comes around the corner, blocking your path. You turn to go the other way but five more appear on that end, trapping the two of you from escaping. Vers' first instinct is to blast them away with her powers, but the restraints on her hands are preventing her from doing so.
That's okay. You have your powers.
"You wouldn't know how these things come off, would you?" Vers asks and holds up her hands. "No? Fine."
Skrulls run at you with their weapons up, and you blast two of them back with your fire. One of them crashes into two of them while the other dodges it so it hits the Skrull behind him. Vers results in hand-to-hand combat to counteract your powers until all of the Skrulls are down on the ground moaning in pain.
"Come on."
You and Vers run through a big room to cut across the ship but are stopped by a Skrull twice your size. Vers punches him in the gut and face but that's a tickle compared to someone his size. He punches both of you at the same time, and two Skrulls use their tasers on your back to try and subdue you. Vers falls to the ground and tries to use her powers. The metal around her hands glows bright orange the more she uses it. It gets to a point where her powers melt right through the metal. The tall Skrull and the two normal ones get hit by the impact, and the metal jams itself into the wall of the ship.
The impact is enough to crack the metal, but Vers is too happy to have gotten the restraints off.
"Vers?"
She turns and sees the wall burning from the effects of her powers. One Skrull left before the damage could get worse, but the other two stayed behind to see what will happen. The wall caves in on itself, sending a vacuum through the room that is caused by space. Both you and Vers are sucked into the vacuum, but you quickly grab the nearest thing you can find to prevent yourself from being sucked into space. As a safety precaution, you and Vers activate your space helmet in the unfortunate case that you are sucked away.
"Vers!"
Your aerokinesis doesn't work since there is no air in space.
"Hold onto me!"
You grab her left hand as her right hand glows bright orange. She blasts away from the gaping hole and into the hallway just as the door slams shut. This whole ship is going to go down, and you need to find some way off it.
"Come on," you pant. There is one room that you haven't checked yet, and it has escape pods that two Skrulls are using to flee the ship. There is one left, and that's your ticket out of here. "There!"
You and Vers enter the small pod that's only meant for one person, and she messes with the controls to get it to start. Suddenly, the side of the control panel is blasted, and you look behind you to see Talos there with a gun in his hands.
"Leaving so soon? We're just getting to know each other," he chuckles.
"Vers, get us the hell out of here."
You blast Talos back with your air powers just as the doors close. The entire pod launches forward and you grab onto something to prevent you from falling into Vers. The pod shoots out of the side of the ship and heads down to the planet below you. You're not sure what planet this is, but you can use your powers and get the hell out of here as soon as it's safe.
Since Talos shot the damn controls, it began shortening out. The impact of his blast causes the pod to break into small pieces. With nothing underneath you to hold you up, you fall from the fall with a scream. This planet has breathable air that you can manipulate as soon as you stop twisting and flipping through the air. The pod crashes down below into a store, and you fly down there to see if Vers was caught in the damage.
You fly through the hole and land in the store that has a bunch of thick books.
"Vers!" you gasp and run over to her. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, where are we?" she coughs and stands.
"I don't know." You walk over to one of the shelves and grab one of the books, and you come to the conclusion that they're not books. In fact, they don't have any pages inside them, only a thick tape recorder of some kind. "What the hell are these?"
"Vers to Star Force Command. Do you read me?" Vers asks her wrist. That allows her to communicate with Yon-Rogg and the other teammates. "Hello? Do you copy?"
"I don't think anyone is there," you say. You two walk outside the store only to see multiple other ones in the same complex. "I think this is Earth."
There is a security officer in the empty parking lot, and you and Vers walk over to the man who is scared shitless at seeing something otherworldly crash into the Blockbuster store. She knocks on the window twice before the man rolls it down manually.
"Hi, I'm Vers and this is Y/N. Kree Star Force. Is this C-53?" The man is speechless, and she messes with her wrist device with confusion written on her face. "Do you understand me? Is my universal translator working?"
"Yeah," he gulps, "I understand you."
"Oh, good. Are you in charge of security for this district?"
"Sort of. The movie theatre has its own guy."
"Where can I find communications equipment?" The security officer points to a store called Radio Shack, and Vers gives him a tight smile. "Thank you."
"Vers," you hiss when you walk away from the man. "That's not how you talk to humans."
There is some kind of communication device on the wall with buttons; a phone if you had to guess. The phones you're used to are rotary phones that not everyone had back in the 40s. Vers opens the machine and connects it to her wrist so she can communicate back to Yon-Rogg wherever he might be. It took all night for her to get it to work, but she finally does it when the sun is shining high. She presses on the hologram feature so she can see his face and he can see hers.
"Vers. Verify, CTC-39," Yon-Rogg says.
"GRXV-1600, and we're fine thank you for asking. Is everyone okay, what happened?"
"Skrull ambush. I thought we'd lost you. Did you find Soh-Larr?"
"It wasn't Soh-Larr. It was Talos, and he even knew his code."
"That's impossible. That code was buried in his unconscious."
"The Skrulls messed with our minds," you say. "I think the machine they used is how they extracted Soh-Larr's code."
"Vers, Y/N, where are you?"
"I'm on planet C-53. The Skrulls are looking for someone named Lawson.".
"Who?"
"She's... who I see..." she sighs.
"She's what? Vers. Vers, what?" Yon-Rogg asks when you break up.
"She's a scientist. They think that she's cracked the code on light-speed tech. I have to get to her before they do or else they'll be able to invade new galaxies."
"No. You've been caught once already. How far to C-53?" Yon-Rogg asks one of the Kree next to him.
"Closest jump point is twenty-two hours."
"Vers, Y/N, hold your position until we get there, and keep your comms online so that we can contact you."
"No, what if they get a hold of it before—" you say just as the communication cut off. "No, we're not just going to sit here for twenty-two hours when we can be doing something useful."
"I agree," she nods.
Police sirens come from all around you but you and Vers are more focused on finding where the Skrulls went. They're here somewhere, and it's your job to track them down before they can get do more damage to this place. Two men in expensive suits and two police officers make their way to the phone booth you and Vers are in. The tall black man knocks on the window, and you two turn to face him.
"Excuse me, do you know anything about two ladies who went through the roof of that Blockbuster over there? Witness says they were dressed for laser tag."
He flashes the badge he has that says his name is Nick Fury.
"Oh. Yeah, I think they went that way," Vers smiles and tries to walk off only to have the Agent step in her way.
"Ah, I'd like to ask you two some questions. Maybe give you the 4-1-1 on late-night drop-bys. Could I see some identification, please?"
"Vers and Y/N. Kree Star Force. We don't carry identification on metal cards."
She tries to walk off again, but Agent Fury grabs her arm and steps in her way. You wiggle your way in between them with a glare. He might be human, but he doesn't get to put his hands on her without her permission.
"Vers. Y/N. Star Force. How long are you two planning on being in town?"
"Oh, we'll be out of your hair as soon as we track down the Skrulls which are infiltrating your planet."
"Skrulls?"
"Shapeshifters. They can transform into any lifeform down to the DNA, but don't get confused with Y/N because her powers differ from theirs." No one responds because no one understands the danger they're in. "Oh boy, you guys don't have a clue, do you?"
"Hold on. How do we know that you two are not one of those shapeshifters?"
"Congratulations Agent Fury. You have finally asked a relevant question."
"Oh! Congratulations to you Star Force Lady. You two are under arrest."
Both police officers step forward with handcuffs to arrest you, but you notice something on the roof of a nearby building. There is a woman with a bright yellow shirt with a Skrull gun in her hands.
"Look out!" you yell and push Fury to the side. Vers blasts the roof where the Skrull was but it managed to get away. There is no time to explain to Fury and his men what's going on, so you and Vers take off running to catch up with the Skrull. "Hang on!"
You grab Vers from the back and fly into the air to catch up to the Skrull faster. It's easier than running and using all your energy before you can fight him.
"I love your powers!" she yells as the wind blows her hair back.
The Skrull is headed to the train that just pulled onto the station. From up above, you can see the plethora of passengers leaving and entering the train. One of them being the shapeshifter. He almost runs into a sweet old lady before jumping on just as the doors closed. Once one person sees you flying, all of them look up and gasp in fright and wonder. The few people who have cameras take pictures, but you don't care about them right now.
The only way to get on the train is through a window, so you fly over to the top and Vers detaches from you. You two begin running to the front of the train where the windows are the biggest. Vers doesn't think twice and punches through the window, and you nod in acknowledgment.
"Yeah, that works, too."
You follow behind her and begin walking down the aisles of the train. The chatty passengers stop talking when they see you out of fear and confusion. They must have seen you two fly over. Everyone is looking at you because you're part of the unknown. Humans stare in silence at things they don't understand, so the Skrull would try and do the opposite. They don't know enough about humans to know how to act.
There is an old lady in the second car reading a newspaper. She lowers it to turn a page, and you smirk knowingly. You saw that sweet old lady when the Skrull bumped into her as he was getting on the train. You nudge Vers and motion to the old woman who she was staring at, too. You and Vers stop in front of the woman who looks up at you slowly.
"Can I help you, ladies?" she smiles.
Vers rears her fist back and punches her as hard as she can. Everyone on the train gasps collectively, and no one says anything in fear. The old lady glares at you two and kicks Vers into the people behind her. You grab the woman's hair and slam her face into one of the metal poles that dents upon impact. You're about t punch her when one of the passengers holds you back. Your powers will definitely get you out of this situation, but then you'd be putting dozens of people's lives in danger.
The woman grabs one of the metal poles and swings herself around it, kicking Vers in the stomach. Vers punches the woman to the ground but only gets in two hits before two people pull her off the helpless old woman. That gives the shapeshifter some time to escape and drops something in the process. It's a purple glowing object. You're not sure what it is, but you grab it so examine it later.
You and Vers shove the passengers off you and run after the Skrull who had time to shift into someone else. He's in between the trains, so you can only see him through the small window on the door. He smirks and climbs up the ladder to get to the roof. You and Vers follow him to the roof, but you're kicked in the chest as soon as you breach the surface. You go flying twenty feet away from them just as Vers pops her head up. The Skrull takes off running down the train and grabs onto one of the wires, but gets electrocuted immediately.
Vers takes off running towards him but gets kicked in the chest, and she goes flying off the train. She grabs onto the railing to keep herself from falling to her death, and you jump into action. You fly alongside the train and reach out to grab her while the Skrull runs further down the train.
"Vers! I need you to let go!"
"I can't!" she gasps.
"Trust me. I will catch you. You gotta let go."
She looks over her shoulder and decides to place her trust in you. She lets go of the railing but she doesn't fall because your aerokinesis power is holding her up. You fly both of you to the top of the train just as the Skrull is reaching the front of it. Vers tries blasting him but she gets to the top of a tunnel instead. If you don't get off now, you're going to be dead in seconds. Vers punches the top of the train with her powers so that you two can escape into it just as it reaches the tunnel.
When the train stops at the next underground station, you and Vers get off it. Everyone around you is a suspect since the Skrull could be anyone. However, people walk past you without a care in the world, just going about their day. The only reason why they stop and look at you is because of the clothes you wear.
"He's not here anymore. Come on," you sigh. You take her above ground and over to an alley-like place where there are no other people. Vers looks like she is about to cry from how stressed she is. "Vers."
"I can't believe he got away."
"Check this out. The Skrull dropped this."
You hand her the purple object, and she places it into her wrist device.
Images began to appear to show the contents in the following order: An older woman smiling who you assumed to be Dr. Wendy Lawson. A logo for an unknown company with the Doctor's name and the word "Pegasus" on there. A smiling little girl with a racing helmet on her head. Finally, a bar, Pancho's, along with a black lady who is looking at someone from over her shoulder. The images short out just as the purple device shuts off. Vers takes it out of her wrist and throw sit on the ground in anger.
"It's going to be okay. We'll figure this out."
To calm her down, you pull her in for a kiss, and all worries in her fade away. Once you know she is calm, you pull away from her with a smile.
"Okay, I feel a little better," she chuckles. "Have you ever been to C-53?"
"It's called Earth, and yes, I have. I've been living here for the past nine hundred years. I left in the late 40s and haven't been back since. I lost two very important people and didn't see a reason why I should stay here anymore. The Kree captures me before I could find a new home, but back then, it was Ronan. I made friends with my cellmate, and after twenty years of torture, we escaped with the help of a group known as the Ravagers. I spend another twenty-six years with them, and now I'm here with you."
"You'll have to tell me what you've been up to for the past nine hundred years, but in the meantime, what do we do?"
"Well, we need to find where Pancho's is, and we go from there. When Talos was looking at your memories, Pancho's was in there. I'm assuming it'll help us figure out where to go after that."
"Where do we even begin to find it?"
"I know a place," you smile.
Yon-Rogg pilots the spacecraft toward the horizon and straight for a jump point. Jump points are spots in the sky that allow for fast travel around the universe. It takes five of these to reach Torfa. Only you, Minn-Erva, Att-Lass, Yon-Rogg, and Vers are touching down on the face of the planet while the rest stays aboard the ship to wait for further instruction. The pods you are cramped in crash land into the ocean, so you have to swim to shore on your own
"Vers and Y/N, track Soh-Larr's beacon. Att-Lass and Minn-Erva find elevation," Yon-Rogg orders when you breach the surface.
The entire planet is covered with large rocks and pillars made by the locals. If a fight breaks out, you can do a lot with the foundation using your powers. The further you go inland with Vers, the less you can hear over your ear comms. Minn-Erva says something but there is too much interference to understand what she's saying. You and Vers make it to the spot where Soh-Larr's beacon is coming from. There is a large cave in front of you but the Kree soldier is nowhere to be found.
He must be inside.
"We tracked his location to a cave. He must be inside. Let's move," Vers takes charge.
"No, stay where you are. It's a perfect spot for an ambush," Yon-Rogg says over comms.
"Yon-Rogg, there's no one but locals around. He has to be inside."
"It's too risky. Wait for backup."
By the time he gets down here, Soh-Larr could be dead or have moved somewhere else. You turn off your comms with an annoyed eye roll.
"Come on, let's just go inside. I'm not waiting for him," you say and begin walking into the cave.
The cave is dark since it's too far for natural light to reach from the entrance, but there are cracks in the foundation to help light the way. The further you go, the more the path narrows to the point where the only way through is a small opening between two large slabs of rocks, and Vers touches the side of it in thought.
"Isn't one of your powers to manipulate rock?"
"Yeah."
"Show me?"
You put both hands on the slab of rocks at the same time as your eyes shine bright green, the kind of green that you'd find in a dense forest filled with vibrant colors. Your eyes only change colors when you're using an immense amount of power like you are now. Geokinesis changes your eyes to green, pyrokinesis changes them to red like the gates of Hell, hydrokinesis is an icy blue like the Arctic, and aerokinesis is a silky white like the clouds.
The rocks in front of you start to shake and move as you transform them to move out of your way. Bits and pieces of rock break off and fall but turn to dust before they have a chance to hit you or Vers. You're scared if you move the foundation too much, the entire cave will collapse on itself, trapping you two inside. To prevent that from happening, you make the hole just big enough for you and Vers to fit through.
When you're done using your power, your eyes dim back to their natural color.
"That has to be the coolest thing I've ever seen," Vers grins.
"Babe, you've seen nothing yet."
You two pass through into the next section of the cave, and you see someone in the corner of the room.
"Verify your code."
Skrulls may be able to shapeshift into people, but they can only access recent memories. Kree was given a code when they were born so that if they ever fell victim to a Skrull, then the shapeshifter wouldn't be able to access that code. You don't have one since you were never Kree.
"TRT79-VVX6," Soh-Larr says.
That's enough to convince Vers to trust this man. You've never met him in all the time you've been with the Kree, so he must have been undercover for a long time.
"Are you okay?" you ask.
"Yeah," he sighs and rests against a rock, clearly exhausted.
"Vers? Y/N?" Yon-Rogg says through the comms. Vers touches her ear where her comm is, so you turn yours back on to hear what he has to say. "I told you two to wait for backup! There are Skrulls here! It's an ambush!"
If there is a Skrull ambush outside, then Soh-Larr might not be who he says he is. The only way Skrulls would know Kree codes is if the Kree soldier gave it out. You and Vers are about to attack Soh-Larr but he sticks something in the side of your neck that sends volts of electricity through your bodies.
Soh-Larr's skin begins to melt back into the skin of a Skrull, and General Talos grins down at the both of you who are still struggling to fight through the pain. You know he's General Talos because Yon-Rogg put his picture up for everyone to see.
"How did you know the code?" Vers gasps.
"How about I tell you my secret when you both tell me yours," he grins and tasers you two one more time.
This time, the shock waves are enough to knock you out.
Tumblr media
"Here you go," you smiled and set down the coffee your mother requested thirty minutes ago.
"Thank you, darling. Could you bring this file to the archives? I really need to get this done," she handed you a file.
"Yeah, of course. I'll be right back."
You plug your headphones into your phone and walked to the elevator. You knew this building like the back of your hand. You practically grew up here because both your parents worked in the same building and often brought you to work. The archives are located in the basement of the building, so you rode the elevator all the way down there.
After placing the file where it needed to go, you begin walking back to the elevator. Two shadows passed on the wall, and you took out your headphones to hear who might be down here with you.
"I don't care what needs to be done. Markus isn't going to be happy with the news," a man whispered.
Whatever he was talking about clearly wasn't meant to be overheard by anyone. You snuck closer to where the two men were and you peeked around the corner to get a better look. One of the men was Bailey Moore, Markus' right-hand man, and you didn't know who the other one was.
"There are a lot of people in this building, Bailey. I'm doing what I can to not get caught. I don't see you doing anything to help."
"If word gets out about this project, we are all going to be toast. I am just trying to prevent everyone from sticking their noses where shit doesn't belong," Bailey hissed. "This serum that Markus wants to create is very powerful, very deadly, and very special. It has the power to wipe out planets with just a thought. So, please, keep your mouth shut and do the job he hired you to do."
"This can't be right," General Talos says. He and two other Skrulls are looking at a big screen that has your memories displayed for everyone to see. "This can't be right. I think you went back too far. Advance some years."
The golden castle is much bigger in person than you thought it was going to be. It makes all Asgardians feel small when you looked out the window. You haven't left this room since the big prize fight because you're scared Markus was going to come back for you. Markus has the Tesseract so he can continue his experiments, but you have the serum he created still in your body.
He's going to come after you sooner or later.
"Are you okay?"
You jumped at the sudden voice coming from behind you. You turned and see Loki, one of Asgardian's princes at the door.
"No. I'm scared he's going to come after me again." Loki closed the door and walked closer to you. "I can't go back to him." Loki pulled you into him and you wrapped your arms around his waist. "I won't."
"Don't worry, darling. I won't let him hurt you."
"No, you need to go later. You're doing this wrong," Talos groans in frustration. "Am I the only one who's confused here?"
"Hang on," another Skrull says and messes with your memories once again.
"Markus, please stop," you begged.
Your whole body was weak from the drugs he injected into you as some sort of assurance that you weren't going to go anywhere. It's not like you could; he has you strapped down pretty tightly on the operating table. Markus was on the other side of the room with a glowing blue box in his hands.
"You're a part of something bigger, Y/N. You don't know it yet, but your planet thanks you."
"What is that?" you mumbled.
"It's called the Tesseract. It's what's going to perfect the serum I had you test out."
"More powers? You're so egotistical. Always have to be the best, don't you?" you sighed.
He clearly didn't know what he was doing, but he was going to try until he got exactly what he needed. With the machine he created, he was able to absorb some of the Tesseract's power into the serum he had already created. If things went wrong, then he had an exact replica of the serum that he could use.
Just in case this was to kill you or anything.
"Markus, think about this," you begged when he came closer with the glowing blue serum.
"You're going to make a lot of people happy, specifically me. Now, this might pinch."
He grabbed your arm and jammed the needle into your body without taking the time to find a vein. A burning sensation started from the injection site before traveling up your arm. Screams poured out of your mouth when the burning began to get unbearable. Markus watched with a smile as your skin started to glow a bright blue as the Tesseract worked in unison with the already-created serum.
This was either going to kill you or make you wish that it did.
"Remarkable," Talos whispers. Your eyes flutter open when you've regained consciousness. "The energy signature is quite literally in her body. They both have the same energy running through their veins. They'll be able to help lead us to it."
You're unable to move much and when you looked down, you realize why. Talos has suspended you upside down with your ankles shackled to the ceiling and your hands in some sort of metal restraints. You look to the right and see Vers is set up the same way. A purple electrical current runs from a machine at your temples into the big computer they are looking at. On the screen is you on the metal table while Markus injects the new serum into your body. The computer next to yours is showing Vers and her memories, and you notice what's on screen is coming from Earth. You'd recognize that Air Force Base any day.
You were considered for the Air Force before you went into the Army, and that was one of the bases you visited. Was Vers from Earth? Was she taken just like you? Did she know? Vers' eyes are wide when she sees her memories, and based on how shocked she looks, she didn't know.
The restraints on Vers' hands start to glow bright orange as she uses her powers to try and get out of this without alerting the three Skrulls. If she can get out of her restraints using her powers, then so can you. Fire heats up along your legs all the way to your feet where hot fire starts to melt the metal. The same thing happens to your hands, and the metal cracks at the pressure.
All three Skrulls turn to see you break free, and you flip down to the ground and turn to them with bright red eyes. Vers restraints break at her feet but the ones on her hands are still on. She can move about with two chunky metal handcuffs engulfing her hands. All three Skrulls back away in fear but you're done playing. You want answers, and Talos is the only one who will give them to you.
Talos orders the other two to attack you and Vers, but you're way ahead of him. You blast the Skrull back with a fireball, and he goes flying into the computer display. The other Skrull runs at Vers but she smacks him with the metal thing still attached to her hand.
Nothing is standing in the way of you and Vers and Talos. She runs at him and pushes him against the computer with her fist back by her head.
"What did you do to us?!" she demands.
"We're just after a little information."
"What did you put in my head?"
"Nothing that wasn't already there."
"Those aren't my memories."
"Yeah, it's like a bad trip in there. I'm not surprised you can't keep it straight. They really did a number on you. You more so than the other one."
"Enough of your mind games! What do you want?" you ask.
"We're looking for the location of Doctor Lawson and her light-speed engine."
"I don't know any Doctor Lawson."
"Then why is she in your head?"
All three doors to the room open and more Skrulls come rushing in with weapons.
"Vers, we have to go." Vers grabs Talos and throws him into two Skrulls. The more they come, the more you blast them away with your fire. Some of them pass out from hitting blunt objects while others run away so they won't get burned by you. "Don't worry, I'll protect you while you figure out a way to get those off."
"Let's go."
