One of my favourite poets of all time! It's been a while since I've read Plath. 💟 Much controversy surrounds the last of her unabridged diaries, which were burned and forever reduced to ashes, but her poetry serves as a reminder of hope even in the darkest of times. #sylviaplath #sylviaplathpoetry #book #booklovers #blackandwhite #selectedpoems #feministpoet #feminist https://www.instagram.com/p/CCOX1sKHQbA/?igshid=8ql08k5d583j

WERE LIVE ON AMAZON PEOPLE! never thought the years spent crying in front of my lapttop would bring me here, it is so surreal to see my work and name online and I hope that everyone who purchases my emo little poetry book will derive as much joy from its pages as I did writing them. Thank you so much to any and everyone who who chooses to pick this up. Some of these poems are years old and have been written and rewritten countless times, I’m so relieved and grateful to have them in the world today.
As an African woman of Sudanese decent, I am proud to highlight the complexities of our lives In the diaspora in addition to bringing light to themes that women within our communities are continuously told not engage with such as sex and promiscuity. As a woman currently living in Sudan, It can be polarizing to know that there is something on the internet that references my sex life, my debauchery, and describes my journey towards physical autonomy with such detail. We will not be silenced out of our complexity and diversity as a community of women.
Currently in my country, there are women who risk being raped simply for wearing pants, tea laddies who are mugged and abused simply for making money and housewives who are locked in their homes by their husbands in order to inhibit their employment and means to provide for themselves. In no way does my book adequately address these themes and I will be the first to say it is not political but to be honest, I have myself grown tired of civil and human rights discourse, It is too forgiving and too tolerant towards our destroyers. this book is a self proclamation of evil, of darkness and of the female right to be anything other than pure and sanct. I am not that nor will I ever be. If I want young African women to derive anything from my writing it is that it is better to just to do than to justify, it is better to accept being feared than to explain why you should be embraced and it is better to polarize than it is to integrate a silent enemy, as not all who listen hear our plight.
Note - This book is currently only available in e-book and kindle format.

When daddy drinks
She learns to hide
Learns to shut herself away
Learns to fear those who are bigger
Because no matter what he does
It will always be her fault
The bruises
The burns
They’re all there because she
Said something
Did something
Was something
Something that disappointed him.
When daddy drinks
She learns to lock the door
Learns not to feel
Learns to climb out windows
She craves affection
The slightest hint of kindness
A hug
A smile
An ounce of sympathy
Anyone willing to listen
Even though she knows
She doesn’t deserve it
Doesn’t deserve their love.
When daddy drinks
She learns pain is better than nothing
Learns pencil sharpeners unscrew
Learns that glass breaks
And lighters burn
Scars and blood are her reality
There’s no room for soft
Only cold
And hard
And unforgiving.
When daddy drinks
She learns she is flawed
Learns her scars are shameful
Learns her body makes her someone else
Learns to cover things up
To hide the pain
To fake perfection
To pretend to be okay
Trapped by a past
She’ll never escape.
When daddy drinks
She learns she is worthless
Learns to take the pain
To ignore the harsh words
She’ll never be comfortable
But she learns to keep her mouth
Shut
And never
Ever
Speak up.
When daddy drinks
She learns to leave
Learns to turn to others
Learns to keep secrets
She believes the wrong people
And trusts every “I love you”
Lets herself go astray
Lets him take what he wants
Even when it hurts
She never complains
Doesn’t tell
And keeps secrets for years.
When daddy drinks
She learns to ignore the names
Learns not to flinch
Learns not to cry when she falls
She won’t cry at the funeral
But she’ll let the pain consume her
Control her life
Drive her crazy
And straight back into his arms.
He’ll promise not to hurt her again
She believes his lies.
When daddy drinks
She learns to bottle it all up
Learns to escape
Learns to accept her reputation
Becomes someone she hates
Broken trust and failed dreams drive her away
But follow her everywhere she goes
A fresh start becomes the same mistakes
The same mistrust
The same isolation
Just a new city
With new secrets
And new lies.
When daddy drinks
She learns the hardest lesson
Daddy never wanted a daughter
That is the lesson of twelve years
Daddy never wanted a daughter
And he convinced her no one else ever would.
Daddy never wanted a daughter but i’m still here

I am top girl, I am long blonde, Sun-kissed, Size 6, Painted, Carved, Wide smile, Open laugh, Young kind, Open mind, I am top girl, I am brand new, 19, Nice and keen, Never been kissed, Can't be missed, Short skirt, Red lips, Big tits, I am top girl, I am not forever, Far to clever, My get out plan doesn't involve a man, Independent, Strong and slender, Not yet hard, Still soft and tender, I am top girl, I am high hopes, Scuba diving, Ski sloped, Long hikes, Open mikes, In your town, Just for now, Then I'll be miles apart, From your lonely heart, I am top girl, I am full of energy, Always friendly, Kiss for 20, Never lonely, Never sad, Never angry, Never mad, I am everything you wish you had, I am top girl, I am so much better than your wife, A fantasy a role play of a different life, I'm sorry you're marriage didn't work out, Sorry she took the kids and walked right out, I swear I care I really do, Beak down and cry I'm here for you. For 300 an hour. I am top girl, I am on my knees, I am yes sir please, Such a good girl, For you to train, Obedience through pain, I can always take more, I am top whore.. I mean girl, I am still a feminist, Try not to dream of incest, Shake myself out of sleep paralysis, I am opportunities missed, Through an addiction to fast cash, A stiff smile, A forced laugh, I am 5 split condoms, 1 meth addiction and 1 eating disorder to finally learn, Ya can't always be top girl. #poetry #sexwork #travel #feminist #feministpoets

NPM: April 29, The Emulation
I hadn’t actually been planning to post a second poem by her! But then I found this. @feministpoets?
Sarah Fyge Egerton: The Emulation, 1703
Say, Tyrant Custom, why must we obey The impositions of thy haughty Sway; From the first dawn of Life, unto the Grave, Poor Womankind's in every State, a Slave. The Nurse, the Mistress, Parent and the Swain, For Love she must, there's none escape that Pain; Then comes the last, the fatal Slavery, The Husband with insulting Tyranny Can have ill Manners justify'd by Law; For Men all join to keep the Wife in awe. Moses who first our Freedom did rebuke, Was Marry'd when he writ the Pentateuch; They're Wise to keep us Slaves, for well they know, If we were loose, we soon should make them so. We yield like vanquish'd Kings whom Fetters bind, When chance of War is to Usurpers kind; Submit in Form; but they'd our Thoughts control, And lay restraints on the impassive Soul: They fear we should excel their sluggish parts, Should we attempt the Sciences and Arts; Pretend they were design'd for them alone, So keep us Fools to raise their own Renown; Thus Priests of old their Grandeur to maintain, Cry'd vulgar Eyes would sacred Laws Profane. So kept the Mysteries behind a Screen, There Homage and the Name were lost had they been seen: But in this blessed Age, such Freedom's given, That every Man explains the Will of Heaven; And shall we Women now sit tamely by, Make no excursions in Philosophy, Or grace our Thoughts in tuneful Poetry? We will our Rights in Learning's World maintain, Wit's Empire, now, shall know a Female Reign, Come all ye Fair, the great Attempt improve, Divinely imitate the Realms above: There's ten celestial Females govern Wit, And but two Gods that dare pretend to it; And shall these finite Males reverse their Rules, No, we'll be Wits, and then Men must be Fools.
