One of Steve’s students post a Tiktok that’s like:
“How does this-“ *An old clip from an award show where Eddie has his arm thrown around Steve’s shoulders, celebrating the bands win*
“Turn into this-“ *video of Eddie and Steve sitting in the school cafeteria after Eddie surprised him with lunch*

I do think there's something special about the way that audio drama creators seem to love including cameos of voice actors from other popular audio dramas. Obviously, part of the reason why actors from one show might pop up in another is because the audio drama creator community is relatively small and interconnected, and also because those actors are very talented.
But there's also often such a sense that creators are having fun with these cameos. Like Greater Boston casting audio drama heavyweights Briggon Snow, Zach Valenti, and Felix Trench as famous film actors Matt Daemon, Ben Affleck, and Mark Wahlberg respectively. Or Faux and Stallion having Tom Crowley (who plays a Victorian detective in Victoriocity) pop up as Dr Watson. Or Unseen casting Beth Eyre and Felix Trench as characters who are twins. Or Arden getting Emma Sherr-Ziarko to play an actor impersonating a character played by her former Wolf 359 costar Michelle Agresti (with Michaela Swee also appearing as an actor impersonating the other main Arden lead).
In these cases, it's not just that there's a cameo, but that the cameo is given particular (often comedic) significance to those who are aware of the featured actor's other work. The vast majority of people wouldn't recognise any of these voices. But by doing these very intentional cameos, these creators show confidence that a fair chunk of their audience will know these actors and enjoy the link. There's an awareness that listeners of one audio drama are fairly likely to listen to (or at least be aware of) other fiction podcasts, even when the shows in question aren't of particularly similar genres. Recognising these cameos feels like being in on a secret. It feels like these shows are giving a little nod to listeners to say that we're part of the same club.

'When art is so short of inspiration that it has to steal from history, it should at least respect history’s sole essence, which is truth.'
Tbf, Simon Jenkins seems more offended by The Crown than by Napoleon - perhaps that's because many of those represented are still alive?
He makes an excellent general point, though, about 'art so short of inspiration that it has to steal from history'. I think too many novelists, dramatists and film-makers get away with cannibalising dead people's lives for their plotlines, which they then feel they can abandon or embellish when reality seems vague (usually not as vague as they would have us believe) or it doesn't serve their particular narrative purpose. If you're interested in a period, why not use your imagination and create fictional characters whose lives can unfold as you please within that period? Subject to the boundaries of conceivable historical reality, of course.
Or if you can't be bothered with conceivable historical reality, why not opt for sci-fi, or fantasy, where you can create your own rules and reality?

this is going to sound crazy to some but i truly do not care how someone responds to being recorded in public without their permission. i just don’t. i’m in favor of them doing whatever they need to do to get someone to stop recording. and if someone ever records you i hope you are given the leeway to do what you need to do. sorry if this offends.

as a filmmaker and a photographer i cannot stress this enough, we are ALWAYS thinking about whats in the background of the image. if theres something in the background that is kinda questionable or isnt visually appealing, theyre either an amateur with cameras or theyre trying to tell you something else. and if the image in question is on a platform like netflix its 1000% the latter.
im currently filming my thesis and im constantly changing my angles to include things in the background that would be more meaningful and give more context to the story. i also have ALWAYS done this in my photography. im always thinking about every aspect of the image and how i can show multiple different perspectives by taking advantage of the background as well as the foreground. its one of my favorite things to do when im taking photos.
THAT BEING SAID!!!!!!!! all of these camera framing and angles are so extremely intentional and i lose braincells every time someone tries to say that theyre accidental and dont mean anything. cinematography accidents do not happen at this level of professionalism.

one way sign pointing mike to closet that literally takes up the entire frame

dont even need to say anything here

will being so clearly in the shot when he tells el he loves her

again, dont even need to elaborate

and heres some of my favorite non-byler examples of super cool things theyve done with the background that foreshadow future events

freddie kruegers vecna-esc hand right behind max

henry in the upside down rainbow and el in the right side up rainbow

and i do believe that this is foreshadowing mike being vecna’d in s5

i care about the little things in stranger things. like i want an episode about what life was like in lenora. i know we saw a glimpse of it, but it’s such a small glimpse and just a foundation to start the action. i want to see what will and el talk about on saturday nights when they’re hanging out in her room. i want to see what everyone eats for breakfast before school and work on a tuesday morning. i want to see will and el help each other with homework. i want to see what a family board game night looks like. i want to see if there’s typical sibling fights between jonathan, will, and el over the tv remote and joyce yelling at them to knock it off. i want to see when they go to the store and el is roaming the beauty section and she picks up some nail polish then later that night will and el are in her room gossiping and will is helping her paint her nails since he’s an artist and understands precision 💅 and like what does he say when el asks him why he takes the nail polish off after she practices on his nails. like i want to see the little things and what their days look like. i get it. the upside down is cool and all, but i’m dying for an episode of just a regular day in the byers household <3

there being next to no established canon backstory for basically anyone in this film is tonnes of fun cause you can say stuff like 'i think nigel had a brother he accidentally killed when they were both children' and there's nothing to dispute it

tag this with something you are genuinely pretentious about. everyone is a bit pretentious about something, especially the people who think they arent. this is not a no-judgment zone but i want you to be so so honest regardless
