The Big Black Clover Fanfic Recommendation Post

I've been talking about making that post since forever and I think I've finally finished compiling them!

So. Grab a notepad. Take out your TBR list. Get ready to bookmark or mark for later. And let's go.

I guess I should start with a few disclaimers 🫡

I haven't read every fic out there and there are notably a few fics I know I'm going to love but haven't started yet. I think I'll update the post regularly.

The fics on this post are fics I enjoyed and remember having read. considering how many things I forget on a daily basis, it means a lot.

I have my favorite characters, tropes, and themes and this will definitely show.

I'm attempting to organize the fics in categories but ofc some shippy fics also have feels or are angsty or are fluffy, same for the AUs... An attempt is made to organize them based on the vibes I remember (I’ve read some of those literal years ago).

If you're in this post and you think I've put your fic in the wrong category: don't hesitate to reach out!

For the shippy fics, I have my favorite ships but I'm a multishipper sooooo there's that.

I'm recommending oneshots, multichaptered fics, entire AUs, series and fics that are unfinished and probably never will be. Do keep that in mind if you don't like reading abandoned works (you'll be missing out but I can understand).

Hiya anon, and Of course, and Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays~! It was a bit difficult and I took the cowards way out and chose everyones blorbo’s 😔 but I had fun choosing which tropes I think they would all fit 😁! I apologize if I forgot any of my mutuals, I tried to remember and list you all but I know sometimes things fall through the cracks, but I still love you all 🥺💕!

@thoughtfullyrainynightmare : Fuegoleon, I know it’s the obvious choice but really I can’t see you with anyone else 😆 (maybe Nozel 🤔?). As for which trope you two would fit, I think it would be forbidden/star crossed lovers or “the last to know” (I almost went with “Oblivious to love” but I think last to know is fun too!) 😁!

Initially Rosaria had no previous thoughts about you, she knew you were a nice and respectable person with a good job and kind heart. Her first meeting with you however will be one she will always remember.

Rosaria was walking to the Angels Share for a drink after her “Night Shift” as she rounded the corner to reach the Angels Share a man came flying out the window shattering it.

“(Y/N)!” The bar owner hollered.

“(y/n)?” Rosaria thought “were they the one who sent this guy out the window.”

“Ah don’t worry about it Diliuc I’ll pay for it after I teach this guy a lesson” you said

“(Y/N) PLEASE STOP YOU’VE ALREADY BROKE HIS JAW!” The cavalry captain yelled.

“BEAT HIS ASS (Y/N)!!! *hic*” the drunken bard that practically lived there shouted.

You hop down from the broken window and begin walking to the man that you sent through the window, grabbed him by the collar and said.

“You better take what you said about Sister Rosaria back! She is one of the most selfless, kind, and beautiful women in… all of… Tevyat…” You trailed off as you looked up to see the mildly surprised face of Rosaria.

“(y/n)” Rosaria said.

“Sister Rosaria” You squeaked out before letting go of the fellows collar turning around and scampering back to the broken window hastily climbing back inside paying diluc for the broken window and your drinks and running out the door and down the street in the span of time that it took for Rosaria to walk to the door and open it herself.

As Rosaria walked in the door The Bar Owner and Kayea suddenly seemed very interested in their respective clothing 

Needless to say Rosaria was now intrigued

After this event Rosaria realized that you would show up to the Cathedral whenever the choir was singing no matter the weather.

True this isn’t a strange phenomenon for the people of Mondstadt but what is strange is the fact that you come to see her instead of Barbra like the rest of Mondstadt.

Rosaria remembers this because whenever she is persuaded (read: Kidnapped) by Barbra into doing choir, your face would light up for a split second whenever you see her and you will take out a journal and begin doing… something in it.

Rosaria only noticed this after you stopped coming to listen to the choir… it hurt her a little.

So being the ever level headed woman she is, she decided to break into your house while you were sleeping and read the journal.

The entire journal was filled with drawings of flowers, fruits, vegetables, animals, and Her.

None of the drawings were in poor taste either, no drawings of her without clothes, no offensive drawings, and no drawings of her doing anything un-Rosaria like either such as blushing.

In fact the drawings all seemed to highlight how she looked as she was besides certain drawings there were comments about how beautiful the color of her hair was or a comment about her eyes 

One of the most recent drawings however was a drawing of her mildly surprised face with a caption that read as such.

Like, you order a drink and he just Freezes almost like a certain Cavalry Captain snuck up behind him and hit him with a blast of cryo that not even his pyro vision could melt.

“Can I have some dandelion Wine Diluc?” you asked the poor proprietor as you walked in the door.

When you sat down at the bar rather than being greeted with a sour face and a glass of dandelion wine you were greeted by a frozen Diluc with what looked like a faint painting of pink on his cheeks.

Diluc is convinced he is allergic to you, I mean how else could he explain that whenever he sees you that he starts sweating, gets hot in the face, and feels like something is running around in his stomach.

Eventually comes to the conclusion that you are somehow associated with the abyss and are poisoning him.

So Diluc takes you out on a “Strategic close range reconnaissance mission”. 

The “Strategic close range reconnaissance mission” started (as usual when you are involved) with Diluc being as stiff as a statue and you trying to figure out why.

The destination Diluc chose for the “Strategic close range reconnaissance mission” was the cliff near Dawn Winery facing Wolvendom which coincidentally had a beautiful view of Mondstadt city.

The refreshments for the “Strategic close range reconnaissance mission” were grape juice, a handful of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and several dishes cooked especially by DIluc himself

After the “Strategic close range reconnaissance mission” ends he offers to walk you home with the first complete non stuttering sentence he has ever said to you

Now convinced more than ever that he is allergic to you (He trash canned the Abyss theory).

Kaeya and Venti give him H E L L over this, constantly teasing him while Diluc gets closer and closer to saying fuck it and strangling them with his bare hands.

Diluc invited you on more “Strategic close range reconnaissance missions” afterwards.

On “Strategic close range reconnaissance mission” #15 he realized “Oh shit this is kinda like a date”.

This revelation sent Diluc backpedaling into a stiff statuesque mess whenever he saw you. 

In summary Diluc is a Tsundere obviously pining over you while Kaeya and Venti laugh their asses off eating popcorn and reveling in Diluc’s suffering.

Fire, my dearest! I'd be more than happy to share my thoughts regarding those two!

There's a lot to say so let's get right into it!

Asta

How I feel about this character: Asta is a good boy! He's loud and a bit annoying but he's got a good heart. I like how he's able to positively influence everyone he meets, whether intentionally or not. His new friendship with Liebe is definitely my favorite because he was annoyed at Liebe's attitude but got over it quickly to accept Liebe for who he was.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I kind of flip-flop between Noelle and Yuno. I personally think he has equally good chemistry with both.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: BroTP with Leopold all the way! Also, he and Nero are definitely a funny duo together, she's like a big sis who calls out Asta's annoying traits but still believing in his wholeheartedly.

My unpopular opinion about this character: Is Asta being ace an unpopular opinion? Maybe?

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I really want a comedic scene where Asta's initial introduction to the Black Bulls is reversed. Remember how Finral kept describing the Bulls' faults but finishing with "they're a good person"? I want Asta to do that with Liebe and Nacht while both are glaring daggers at the other Bulls.

My OTP: Astelle is endgame and I do want to see how they confess but I don't feel strongly enough to call it an OTP.

My cross over ship: More like a crossover BroTP but imagining Asta and Inosuke getting into screaming matches makes me giggle a bit. They're both loud and chaotic but Asta is more considerate while Inosuke is humorously tactless.

A headcanon fact: There was a funny incident where Asta tried to lift the whole Black Bulls squad in like a reverse pyramid and it did not go well.

Yuno Grinberryall

How I feel about this character: Not my favorite son from the series but I am still fond of him. I don't 100% like what's been done with his character, as I explained in group chat once. He's one of the better rival characters in shounen, one that doesn't immediately write off the protagonist.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I think Asta is the only character I romantically ship with Yuno.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: The friendship trio of Yuno, Mimosa, and Klaus is hammered in by the anime and I'm okay with that. I love the three of them together as a team.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I really don't know how unpopular this is but it annoys me that Asta and Yuno are rivals but Yuno always seems to be the one gaining the lead before Asta catches up. Show Yuno catching up for once, gosh darn it!

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish Yuno's prodigy thing was something he actively hated. Instead of accepting or being neutral to everyone's praise, he wanted them to shut up. He could still want to be Wizard King but he wouldn't want to deal with others' expectations and would simply focus on being the best he can be beside Asta. That would've been really interesting, although I admit it makes his life more dependent on Asta's presence.

My OTP: I do romantically ship him with Asta, but not as an OTP.

My cross over ship: None really. Sorry.

A headcanon fact: Yuno does all his own chores at the Golden Dawn base. He cooks himself simple meals and does his own laundry rather than leaving it to the servants that are probably hired at the noble-filled squad base.

2021 Black Clover Week - Highlights

In which I’m too lazy to make a dashboard, so bullet points it is!

☕️If you had to place the black bulls in a squad that wasn't the black bulls, where would you put them and why?

Hello! I really appreciate the ask!

This concept has always been something I’d love to see more of since the possibilities are endless. I’m going to answer this prompt with the assumption that each member properly went through the magic knight exam and were chosen by a different squad captain. I’ll be explaining my thoughts in detail for each member.

Crimson Lions

Asta: Crimson Lions

I think Asta’s determined and headstrong personality would work well within the Crimson Lions. The Crimson Lions seem to be a very disciplined and hardworking squad thanks to Fuegoleon’s leadership, which Asta would thrive in. I like to believe that Asta’s ambition of being Wizard King and outstanding fighting prowess during the exam would impress Fuegoleon enough to have him join his squad. Asta might also serve as a role model where it doesn’t matter what status or magic amount you have, as long as you work hard you are destined for greatness. This would align with Fuegoleon’s value. Also, Leopold would have a more consistent rivalry with Asta which would make him improve more quickly and effectively.

Zora: Crimson Lions

I think that Zora would be a refreshing addition to the Crimson Lion based on his more tactical fighting style and stance on the corrupted upper class. Having Zora would be a humbling experience for everyone. I think that Fuegoleon would appreciate Zora’s blunt and critical personality because it’ll only lead to improvement and growth. Although his pride may get repeatedly stomped on by Zora, he still values his words and learns from them. And since the Crimson Lions are most likely full of nobles, Zora will be an important key to not only showcasing that peasants are just as strong as nobles, but also point out each member's weakness. He may cause mayhem in this squad, but I think they’ll improve a lot with his presence. Zora would also respect Fuegoleon’s unbiased personality despite being a royal so he has no problem being in his squad.

Blue Rose

Noelle: Blue Rose

I specifically did not pick the Silver Eagles because I don’t believe that Noelle will consistently grow and improve in an environment where she will most likely be ridiculed or undermined. She needs to be in a squad where she can be empowered and supported by others. It’s because of these crucial factors that I think the Blue Rose is the perfect squad for her. Based on what we know about the Blue Rose, we have never seen any members discriminate against others based on class or skills (unless you’re a man RIP). I also believe that Charlotte would be a great role model and teacher for Noelle to look up to. Charlotte may also serve as a potential mother figure that Noelle probably wanted her whole life.

Finral: Blue Rose

This is basically a dream come true for Finral. A squad full of beautiful and strong women? He can finally die happy! Joking aside, I think Finral’s personality and spatial magic would meet Charlotte’s standards. Although Finral is a flirt, he is definitely not disrespectful towards women. Though his flirting may get him in trouble due to the “no dating men” rule, he can always be subtle about it like the other blue rose members. Who knows, maybe his attempts may appear charming to the other members. Finral’s spatial magic is also very reliable and makes him the squad’s favorite errand boy.

Green Mantis

Magna: Green Mantis

Magna’s small amount of magic might prevent him from being accepted by any other squads, but I think Magna’s grit and delinquent attitude might work well under Jack. Magna is no pushover and his willingness to fight might entertain Jack. And if Magna is extremely loyal to Yami, he might be the same for Jack which will stroke his ego pretty nicely. Magna basically went from mean looking captain to another lmao. And if I’ll be honest, Magna might be the key to the squad improving drastically. The squad honestly needs that toughness based on the weak-willed members we know so far from the squad. Jack would definitely leave Magna in charge of toughening up the members. They need it.

Luck: Green Mantis

The sole reason why Luck would join the Green Mantis is because of Jack. Out of all the other captains, Jack seems the most eager to slice which will peak Luck’s interest. If Jack can apparently cut anything, Luck wants to test his abilities and fight Jack. Luck already has a bad reputation and so he might not be accepted into other noble squads. Thankfully, Jack doesn’t care for reputation so Luck will be at home in his squad. It also helps that Luck is in the same squad as Magna since they seem to motivate each other to grow stronger. They’d make a good pair in toughening up the squad and entertaining Jack.

Nacht: Green Mantis

Now Nacht was very difficult for me to choose. Nacht would probably prefer to be in a squad where he can do whatever he wants and spy on the Spade Kingdom. With this in mind, I would put Nacht in the Green Mantis. This squad is one of the least noteworthy in comparison to the other squads and aren’t as formal or rigid. This becomes an advantage for Nacht since this gives him the freedom to do whatever he needs to do. If he were to disappear, the squad doesn’t have to know due to Jack’s lax leadership. Jack wouldn’t think much about Nacht’s disappearance nor would he care so it’s a win-win situation.

Coral Peacock

Charmy: Coral Peacock

I think Charmy would fit in with the Coral Peacock because of her versatile and powerful cotton magic. I like to think that Kirsch, specifically, would view Charmy’s magic as very beautiful. Her cotton magic is just like her personality, very adaptable and cute, so Charmy might end up charming Kirsch if she were to be a part of the squad. She may even be a possible little-sister figure that he’d end up doting over. Of course, Mimosa will always be his number one. Dorothy can also have a nice soft cotton bed to sleep on lmao.

Vanessa: Coral Peacock

I think Vanessa would be in the Coral Peacock due to being a fellow witch. Vanessa’s versatile and elegant thread magic would also fit with the Coral Peacock’s beautiful aesthetic. There’s no question that Vanessa would meet Kirsch’s standards because of her beauty. However, if Vanessa drinks a lot and casually wears her underwear around the base, Kirsch will suddenly become an overbearing mother. He would see such behavior as unbecoming of a beautiful person and would continuously lecture Vanessa to change her habits.This becomes an everyday thing. Being in the same squad as Dorothy can also lead them to have a closer bond due to their similar upbringing.

Purple Orcas

Gordon: Purple Orcas

It’s a big oof. Gordon would only be accepted into the Purple Orcas because of his poison and curse magic. Gueldre initially wanted Gordon to join him on his corrupted scheme, but after realizing that Gordon’s personality betrays his appearance, he (thankfully) dropped the idea. Now that the original purpose for having Gordon is meaningless at this point, Gordon would be left to do whatever he wants. Sadly, he might be lonely because the other members are too scared to approach him or even ridicule him. Thankfully, he might have someone from the Black Bulls to give him company.

Grey: Purple Orcas

Similar to Gordon, Grey’s transformation magic would be viewed as useful for Gueldre’s schemes. And just like with Gordon, Gueldre would realize that he can’t manipulate Grey into participating in his scheme and would give up on the initial plan. Once Grey is transformed, she is very unpredictable and might not listen to directions as readily. If she’s left alone, she might just transform into her other members and have fun. This is where she’d befriend Gordon and hang out together. They’ll keep each other company. Once Kaiser replaced Gueldre, they would both try and better the reputation of the squad. I can see both of them being more fond of Kaiser than Gueldre. A possible father-figure maybe!

Golden Dawn

Gauche: Golden Dawn

Despite Gauche’s past crimes, William would specifically choose Gauche because he is a reincarnation of Drowa. Gauche’s mirror magic could also be powerful in battle, but he’s definitely a controversial pick due to his criminal history and uncouth personality. Gauche would be the black sheep of the squad and he could honestly care less. As long as he receives his paycheck and spends it on Marie, he just wants to be left alone. No friends, no trouble. Alecedora and Langris will not vibe with Gauche. He isn’t afraid to shoot beams at them or anybody else. William promises that Gauche has the skill to live up to the Golden Dawn’s standards. He’s really stretching it for the sake of having him in the squad. Might try and get Gauche to improve his cooperation skills. And thus Gauche joins Klaus, Yuno, and Mimosa for mission and team building. It’s a wild dynamic.

Nero: Golden Dawn

If Nero were to join a squad as a bird, I feel like she would naturally join Asta’s squad since she likes to sit on his head. However, if she were to go through the exam as herself, she would probably be in the Golden Dawn. I’m sure Patri would at least recognize Nero and would want her by his side to keep an eye on her. Nero’s true identity will be unknown to the other members, but William will do everything he could to be close to Nero. Probably to investigate Nero’s goals. She might also be partnered up with Klaus, Yuno, Mimosa, and Gauche. Not gonna lie though, I was tempted to put her in the Silver Eagles because she’d fit the bird aesthetic.

Aqua Deer

Henry: Aqua Deer

Henry is a quirky man. A quirky man that Rill might find inspiration from! Henry might become Rill’s biggest fan because not only would Rill probably let Henry absorb his mana, but he’d show him his various art work. In return, Rill might like Henry because of his cool recombination magic! Each day his house might look different? That sounds like a potential art project in the making! Henry also attracts animals and so Rill will have a blast painting various animals that come by his house! Especially the birds! Probably the most light-hearted friendship.
