Tigerclaw and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Senior Warrior Position AU
In a world where deputies can only be named after their first apprentice has been granted their warrior name, Tigerclaw struggles to keep an apprentice alive long enough to earn their name.
or, a comedy-tragedy AU in which having an apprentice isn't enough — you have to see them to their warrior name, and Tigerclaw cannot fucking get any of his goddamn apprentices to live, damn it.
—
It starts out mostly normally, except for the fact that Tigerclaw hasn't gotten any apprentices to their warrior name, and he needs that so he can accomplish his (very noble, of course) kitty genocide goals. And also be the supreme leader of the world or something. Darkpaw died stupidly, he hasn't had a chance since, and now he's got some tiny thing that's afraid of his own shadow.
Well. It'll have to do.
So naturally this man is so protective over Ravenpaw that Ravenpaw barely even leaves his sight. Firepaw and Graypaw think that this is adorable. Look how much Tigerclaw cares about his apprentice!!
Ravenpaw, of course, is fucking terrified and also slowly losing his mind, just in a different way.
—
"Redtail assigned us to go on a patrol to Snakerocks." "OH NO HE DID NOT. WE'RE STAYING IN THE SANDY HOLLOW WHERE IT'S SAFE."
"Nothing matters more to me than making you a warrior, Ravenpaw. Nothing." And the terrible thing is that Ravenpaw is sure he's being sincere.
—
Ravenpaw disappears and Tigerclaw nearly fucking has a conniption because the timing was all RIGHT and he was going to finally get the position AND HE NEVER GOT HIS DAMN NAME FUCK.
"Do you think I could convince the elders that Fireheart was my apprentice?" "Fireheart was Bluestar's apprentice, as approved by StarClan. You're going to have to wait for the next litter to be apprenticed."
So he begs and begs and gets Cinderpaw and then she accidentally falls into the trap he'd set for a better deputy candidate at the Thunderpath. Fuck.
—
Well. Time to resort to drastic measures.
"I was thinking that Darkstripe would have been a good name. Because he had dark stripes." "Again, Tigerclaw, it's admirable that you loved your apprentice so much, but I cannot grant him a name." "Are you sure?" "Honestly, Tigerclaw, I'm not sure he ever would have gotten a name. Missing quite a few feathers from his nest, that one..." Fuck. The worst part was that she wasn't even wrong.
— Swiftpaw and Brightpaw get mauled by the dogs he set up to happen like right after he got the title and they sprang it before and he's like FUCK NOW WHAT DO I DO WITH THESE DAMN DOGS? His world domination plans literally never come to fruition because he cannot keep his apprentices alive/in the clan/his own.
— "Brightheart counts. She HAS to count." "Actually, Cloudtail took over her training…" [demented noises]
—
Turns out that Ravenpaw is alive and no one — no one — in the Harper Collins Extended Universe is happier than Tigerclaw.
"You're alive! …You deserve your warrior name!" "Actually, I've come to peace with my name and my way of life. I have no need for a—" "GET YOUR FUCKING NAME RIGHT NOW RAVENPAW OR SO HELP ME STARCLAN—" "I know you really wanted Ravenpaw to become a warrior," Barley says gently, "but he's made his decision. It's very kind of you to acknowledge that he deserves it, though. You must have been so close as mentor and apprentice." Tigerclaw's eye twitches. "Yes. Close. Very... close." —
He finally, finally retires as an elder after his plans go absolutely nowhere for years on end. And maybe StarClan is still like "Brambleclaw would be chill actually, we can forget that pesky little law" and Tigerclaw is sitting there like "excuse me what the actual fuck?" —
But at this point Tigerclaw is about as dangerous as Ashfur without a freak forest fire. Which is to say about as dangerous as using a leaf as a weapon. Which is, incidentally, how Darkpaw managed to get himself killed in the first place.
—
"Is this the Dark Forest? This has to be the Dark Forest. It doesn't look like Thistleclaw described it, but it must be. This Clan is all an elaborate punishment meted down by StarClan for my sins." "Tigerclaw, sir, I'm just here to help you with your ticks. See? I have the mousebile right here." "…Yes, thank you, Alderpaw." — Graystripe joins him in the elder's den and he's like, "You know, Ravenpaw thought you were up to some… scheme, back in the day. Crazy, right? You've been a model Clanmate as long as I've been alive." [muffled screaming] "Huh, what do you think that is? It sounds almost like someone killed a rabbit, but they know not to come this close to camp…"

Tigerclaw in canon had a deep fear of the Moonstone, to the extent that he ran out of the mine with Bluestar and Firepaw present when it " activated " in the first book.
So my question is to Tigerfoot, were you ever scared of the Moonstone? And if do, are you still?
"First time I went, it felt like thousand of eyes were staring at you sleep"
"It's a feeling that, once I understood what it meant, you could grow to ignore. My reception to the moonstone was not friendly, the opposite really, I thought it was a sign that they had refused my path, spitting me out back into being a warrior, the cat that greeted me, Doestar, drowned me in blood before I woke up"
"I didn't tell Featherwhisker about it, I couldn't, when I returned next Half Moon, it was Leopardfoot, she hugged me, she told me she was worried, that she was proud, that the path I had chosen for myself was one she would accompany me all the way"
"...The feeling never left, after Featherwhisker died, after Thistleclaw died, I never got a visit from the stone again, the feeling never went away, but I grew to accept it. In a way, I am a bit terrified, I fear returning to it when it's not necessary..."

MapleClan Moon 11 (extras)
There I am again! I hope everyone has had good holidays and can start into 2025 comfortably <3
Let's get back to the kitties. While Ratbriar is off pondering his life, the clan life doesn't stop.

Nothing is better than Ravenspeckle spraining their paw, immediately growing bored in the medicine den, playing a prank on the other warriors, getting in trouble for it, and blaming it on the apprentices who are - of course - her own kids. Perfection.
Also, poor Firepaw :( sad for my baby.

Next up from the poll is... Firepaw (Fire Starter)! 🔥💫
After fully adjusting to the warrior cat life, Firepaw evolved with a growing, burning sense of justice & heroism within its heart. The jingling "bell flame" that once grew on its neck now flows over its heart, with some saying the flame actually being a glimpse of this Pokémon's altruistic soul!
This Pokemon holds deep admiration of the valiant Twolegs it's seen in its former trainer’s comic books.

embarrassing to be in the warriors fandom as they have never mentioned the parallels between goosefeather and bluestar
Goosefeather :
- apprenticed at 4 moons for his 'destiny'
- sister who likes a piece of shit guy . dies when her babies are still young
-was young and was forced to live a life he never wanted because of his powers
- no one remembers but he was told to burn like the smallest and brightest flame by pearnose, making him continue on after the starvation because he has a set duty where he needs to lead the right person in the place eventually (ahem bluestar)
- was ostracized just in general for being a med cat + his powers making him less social ig idk
- has some rough faith in starclan after leading his whole clan to starvation
- marbles have been gone . dont know since when
- his defiency in marbles makes him neglectful, distant and just very argument-prone
- dies and everything is just fine now suddenly
Bluestar :
- relatively made an apprentice early, was mentioned to be kit sized still when going to windclan's grounds
- sister who likes a piece of shit guy . dies when her baby is still young
- was told at a young age about the fire in her and was set to follow her destiny ever since
- was honestly set up for leadership all because she would accept the next prophetic cat which is firepaw
- was ostracized from the rest of her denmates due to her grieving and being unstable after her mother passes
- has some rough faith in starclan after tigerstar's betrayal + the fire
- lost some of her marbles
- she grew distant and neglectful and began starting quarrels with some of her clanmates if i remember correctly, which includes speckletail about snowkit
- dies and everything is just fine now suddenly
#sorry is this too far stretched . i love blue and goose . so much . im the ceo#art#warrior cats#goosefeather#bluestar

Oh yay! Apprentice asks!!! Can we get a small look at all the Kindling apprentices relationships with their mentors?
I'm going to just be doing the ThunderClan apprentices, because I have no idea on any of the other Clans, since they weren't relevant enough to design:
Tigerclaw and Sandpaw: Easily the most emotionally distant pair of mentor and apprentice out of the five. They didn't think too high or too low of each other - the pairing was decided by Bluestar with the specific intention of managing Sandpaw's temper and guiding her into a more sensible, calmer warrior. Tigerclaw was the cat everyone respected, to the point that even the cat with the worst attitude in the Clan (Darkstripe) submitted to him and enjoyed his company (not that Tigerclaw was super close to anyone at this point in time). That said, Tigerclaw hadn't really wanted another apprentice, but he knew he was the cat for the job, so he agreed to it. Sandpaw needed his discipline and stoic sternness to grow as a person and actually get some learning done. It worked out pretty well, I'd say.
Redtail and Dustpaw: Now these two, on the other hand, very much enjoyed being paired together. Dustpaw deeply admired the deputy of ThunderClan for his cool head and excellent work ethic, and Redtail was fond of his overly-rules-oriented little student who could use someone more casual and friendly to study from. Dustpaw was eager to learn and Redtail was eager to teach, and he saw great potential in Dustpaw that he hoped to channel into a leadership position one day. The only pair in this list more perfectly matched than them is the one below this paragraph!
Whitecloud and Ravenpaw: Whitecloud was not remotely surprised when Bluestar approached him and asked if he would mentor the scrawny, shaky little puffball of anxiety who took a full month more than the other kits to be coaxed out of the nursery. In fact, he'd been observing Ravenkit and felt a pang of sympathy every time the little guy flinched or ran away from someone who raised their voice just a bit too loud. Ravenpaw was still terrified when he had his ceremony, but he quickly found that Whitecloud was the first cat he could really relax around and feel...well, maybe not confident, but certainly less panicked and doubtful about his self-worth. Whitecloud never once raised his voice above a near-murmur around his apprentice or used anything but a gentle vocabulary, and it did wonders for helping Ravenpaw utilize his intelligence and learn more easily and quicker than everyone else. But Ravenpaw still needed a push to be able to speak to his fellow apprentices... luckily, a young kittypet with a soul as soft as down-feathers came along and helped Whitecloud out quite a bit with that. Safe to say that Whitecloud is incredibly proud of Ravenwing for having grown as much as he has since becoming a warrior, and Ravenwing is immeasurably grateful that Whitecloud was there to help him every step of the way.
Lionface and Greypaw: Discussed this here!
Bluestar and Firepaw: Well... we did see how that went from a first-person perspective. What Fireheart wasn't in the right head to see was that Bluestar had quite a bit of anxiety about him - she was very worried that she'd made a mistake and couldn't put her money where her mouth was to raise this very un-ThunderClan cat into a proper ThunderClan warrior. It took her a bit, as it took everyone else, to realize that Firepaw was going to be a perfectly fine warrior, but there was no way she could force him to be anywhere near as aggressive and distant as ThunderClan is famous for. In fact, more than anything, he seemed to be encouraging the younger cats to be as soft as he is! Bluestar had no idea where that was going, but despite her nervousness about it, she couldn't help but be interested in seeing where this little guy was going to go next.

'Perfect' Timeline
I have come up with the 'perfect' timeline of events- where the clans exist roughly 30 years before firestar joins. Spoilers for Ivypool's Heart.
**KEEP IN MIND. Especially in eras before Firestar's time, the average life expectancy was about 5-6 years old with many cats dying rather young.
(This is 'canon' as most of the first ARC warriors actually die before the time they're 7 years old, Whitestorm, Willowpelt, Brindleface, Redtail, Spottedleaf, even Bluestar died before she was 8 years old, I think.)**
"Dawn of a New Era" (1978-1983)
First five years : The DOTC Arc take place, For REDUX purposes, i'd switch around some events and family trees but timeline-wise, things are the same.
'Great Migration' -> Mountain cats, Who are hybrids between bobcats and lynx's (Like the cats seen in Ivypool's Heart.) Leave the mountains to 'discover' the Forest.
'Gorse and Forest cats Vs. Settlers' -> The typical nonsense with Clear Sky and Tall Shadow fighting the cats that already live there.
'The first Blood Bath' -> The battle at the Five trees take place and first 'Leadership' and 'Clans' are officially formed.
Mothwing discovers the religion known as 'Starclan'. However, this is not the only spiritual belief. The mountain cats early religion is a mesh of the Sister's belief and the Wildcats belief from Ivypool's Heart.*
"Discovery Era" (1983-1988)
The next five years: The OG founders die, Shadowstar dies, Skystar dies etc. Leadership is 'passed down' to deputies.
Official 'Code of the Clans' is formed. This is where the rules are created by individual cats come in. Noticeably, the Queens Rule is absent/just the bare bones.
Mentorship and Naming conventions created
Individualism within the Clans are utilised. (Windclan are spiritual and pray, Shadowclan are 'nocturnal' etc.)
"The Rotting of the Fifth Tree" (1988-1993)
Skyclan is driven out, with their territory becoming a dog park/ new homes for humans and kitty pets.
Stripestar and Galestar are born around this time, and grow up alongside Cloudstar's offspring. They merge their Clans together and decide to leave the forest like in canon--however they make their previous deputies leaders of the forest with a very small amount of both WC and TC choosing to follow the young leaders away from the forest.
Both Stormclan and Skyclan are erased from history- since the events happened very close to each other and alot of cats families and loyalties were severed.
Mapleshade is born near the end of this era.
"Modern Era" (1993-2003)
Mapleshades Death -> As a result the Queens Code is solidified and built upon. No cat is required to reveal a kitten's parentage. No cat can ignore a kitten in pain or in need. Kittens from half-Clan unions 'belong' to the clan they are born in.
Willowbreeze + Graypool -> When they're taken from RC, the Queens Code is changed again and solidified.
Era ends when Firepaw joins TC as an apprentice.
#wc au#wc#warrior cats#redux#the skyclan and stormclan bit is lumped together because it makes sense to me but I could make it more than 5 years#because i cant imagine mapleshade being born right at the end of that
