Dinner for two
Tumblr media
Summary: You don’t eat alone this year.
Pairing: AU!Bucky Barnes x fem!Reader
Warnings: angst, grumpy Bucky, fluff, mentions of cheating ex-boyfriend, unnamed ex (you can imagine whoever you want)
Catch up here: Dinner for one
Dinner for … masterlist
Tumblr media
“That was not nice of you, doll,” Bucky holds the door open for you to enter your favorite restaurant. It’s another Friday night and you meet up with Bucky for dinner. “You said it’s a Clint Eastwood film but there were no guns, and he didn’t kill the bad guys.”
“I said it’s a movie with Clint Eastwood. I never said that there would be violence and guns,” you point out. “The Bridges of Madison County is a wonderful movie.“
"They didn’t even end up together.” He huffs but gently grabs your hand. Bucky squeezes it tightly. “A bad ending.”
“No. I mean, yes. They didn’t end up together, but you know that in the end, they loved each other for the rest of their lives. It’s so romantic.” You sigh deeply.
“Y/N, that’s not romantic,” Bucky grumbles. “It’s not a good ending if they suffer for the rest of their lives because they can’t be together. I don’t like it.”
“Hmm…maybe you are right. I think the movie is about making decisions too, you know. This man, who traveled the world, crashes into her life and sweeps her off of her feet. Her husband is not very attentive, and her kids don’t even let her listen to her music. No wonder she falls for the tall and interesting man.”
“Tall and interesting,” Bucky feels his heart flutter as he guides you toward the table reserved for you and him. “Do you like tall men too?” He pulls the chair for you, waiting for an answer.
“I don’t know,” you answer honestly. “The appearance doesn’t matter to me. I like people because they are…nice.”
“You’re too cute,” he sits on his chair, just like every Friday night to smile at you. “Come on, be honest. What did you like about your last boyfriend?”
You frown and drop your gaze. Talking about your ex-boyfriend is still a sensitive topic for you. “I don’t want to talk about him.”
“Sorry, doll. I shouldn’t have asked. So…uh…what do you like about me?” He reaches out for your hand to stroke your skin with his thumb. “You can be honest with me. We are friends. Right?”
“Best friends,” you hastily say. “I love our Friday night dinners and that you watch stupid movies about unrealistic love stories with me. And I like your eyes. They give away if you are angry, grumpy, or sweet.”
“Sweet?” He smirks. “You think I’m sweet, doll?” Bucky takes your hand to bring it to his lips. “I think you are even sweeter and cute.”
You pout. “I can be bad too. Last week I yelled at my neighbor because he wouldn’t quiet down the music. I was badass.”
“I bet you scared him,” he pecks your hand again. “But that’s not what I wanted to talk about. It’s our first anniversary. One year ago, we had dinner together for the first time.”
“I remember and,” you open your handbag to get a beautifully wrapped gift out, “I got something for you, Bucky. Thank you for being such a good friend, and more. You always make me smile, and cheer me up. If not for you, I’d be eating alone, my teddy bear my only companion. I hope you know that the time we spent together was precious to me.”
“Doll,” Bucky clears his throat. He takes the gift you offer to him. “I got something for you too. I-I don’t know if you will like it, though. It’s just, I can’t keep it a secret for longer.”
“Please open the gift. I hope you’ll like it,” you softly say, and pat his hand. “It’s okay, Bucky. I think I already know.” Your features sadden, and you swallow thickly.
Whatever Bucky wants to tell you, seems to be important and you want him to remember the time you spent together before he tells you about the woman you saw him with last week.
Bucky unwraps the gift, he gasps and swallows thickly as there is a heart-shaped key in the box. He lifts his eyes from the box to look at you.
“I wanted to give you the key to my heart but…” You wipe your eyes. “I saw you with that beautiful woman and know now, that you don’t feel the same.” You hold up your hand when Bucky wants to say something. “It’s alright, Buck. This is not your fault, but mine.”
“Baby doll,” Bucky almost knocks the chair over when he gets up to hurriedly crouch down in front of you and grasp your hands to pepper kisses on your skin, “that’s not what I wanted to tell you. You’re precious and important to me. That woman was my best friend’s wife, Sharon. I asked her for advice on how to tell you that I want to be more than your friend.”
“More than my friend—” you sniffle while searching his face. “Do you mean it?”
“Yeah,” he rasps. “I know you are still hurting because of that douchebag but I’m willing to wait all my life if only you give me the chance to love you. Because I love you, Y/N.”
You whimper. “I love you too,” you throw yourself at Bucky and press a kiss on his cheek. “So much. I abandoned my bear and told him that you are my best friend and protector now.”
He wraps his arms around you and buries his face in your neck. Bucky held you many times in his arms – but this is the first time after he confessed his feelings. It feels different but wonderful. “Do you still want to eat with me?”
“Of course, Mr. Barnes. I’m starving,” you choke out. You’re a little overwhelmed by your emotions and don’t know what else to say.
“That’s my girl,” he whispers and means it as you hold tight to each other for a little longer.
Tumblr media
“So, this is our sixth official date,” Bucky states as he looks at the menu. He smirks as you nervously shift in your seat. “Doll, relax. We both know that you can’t do anything wrong. I even let you change my interior.”
“It was awful, and you love your new bedroom,” you tease, and chuckle when his features darken.
“I love what we do in my bedroom,” he flashes you a smirk, making you feel hot and bothered. Bucky has this talent to make you go weak in the knees with only a smile or the look he gives you.
“You mean cuddling.”
“I mean cuddling,” Bucky grins and looks back at the menu. “Hmm…if I want dessert I should start with something lighter tonight. I wanna have a second dessert at home.”
“Bucky,” you say, and look around the restaurant. You don’t want the whole restaurant to know that Bucky is an enthusiastic pussy eater. “Not in public.”
“What?” He feigns innocence and puts his hand on his heart. “I didn’t do anything wrong,” he leans closer to whisper, “or naughty.”
“You’re a naughty man, and you know it.” You both chuckle and reach out for each other’s hand to hold it. “I love you, naughty man.”
“Love you too, doll,” his features soften again, and you see the Bucky only you get to see. The soft and caring man behind his stoic demeanor and grumpy attitude. “Now, what do you want to eat.”
“Y/N? Y/N Y/L/N?”
Bucky is alerted the moment you stiffen and your smile fades. “Baby doll, is everything okay? Is something wrong?”
“I knew it was you,” the man breaking your heart almost two years ago dares to step toward your table. “You look, wow…great.” He flashes you the brightest smile that used to make your heart race. Now there is no reaction. All you do is huff and shake your head.
“Hello,” you coolly reply. “How have you been? I thought you were still in Tokyo and trying to conquer the world.”
“Aw, baby,” the woman he left you for joins your unwelcome reunion, “you didn’t tell me you met some friends.” She stiffens as her eyes land on you. “Oh, it’s you…”
“Bucky, may I introduce my ex-boyfriend and the woman he cheated on me with to you,” you put on a fake smile. “They were about to leave us alone so we could enjoy our date night.”
“Date night?” Your ex splutters. He looks at you as if you lost your mind. In his fantasy, you never get over him and live a lonely life.
“Yes, date night,” Bucky slowly gets up from his chair. He’s an impressive sight when angry. He squares his jaw and offers his hand to your ex. “I’m James Buchanan Barnes,” Bucky smirks darkly as your ex furrows his brows. “If you would excuse us now, me and my lovely fiancé want to dine and enjoy our night. I believe you have plans too.”
“Yes…we are…you know…busy,” your former best friend stammers. She grabs your ex’s hand and leads him away from your table.
“You little shit lied straight to his face,” you snicker. “I didn’t get the memo. Since when are we engaged?”
Bucky shrugs. “I’m planning a spring wedding, doll. So, if you have time let’s plan a wedding,” he casually says and looks back at the menu. “What do you say?”
“I’m all for chicken parmesan, but you can eat whatever you want,” you smile to yourself as your boyfriend nervously shifts in his seat.
“That’s not what I meant, Y/N.”
“Hmm…” You nod thoughtfully. “I think May is the perfect season for a wedding. It’s warm, but not too hot.”
Bucky takes your hand to press a chaste kiss on your skin. “I promise to never hurt you like he did. You are the one for me and I’ll prove it every day of my life.”

Homemade CDs.
Synopsis: Leone loves youuu so muuuucchhh. A wip that I desperately want to get rid of, intended as a tiny drabble to build some character for Leone.
Warnings: general yandere content, stalking
There’s too many CDs under the television in Leone’s living room.
It’s Guido’s living room too, but Guido doesn’t really collect CDs. He has a couple- The Carpenters, The Cranberries, maybe even a Lesley Gore CD he swears up and down he got from a girl that just happened to leave it. (And hasn’t called him in three years to get it back.)
But other than that, it’s all Leone’s. There’s what you’d expect- Monteverdi, Tchaikovsky, maybe some Depeche Mode, and Bauhaus. Why does one man need three different versions of Swan Lake? The fucking nutcracker is in here?? They make CDs for that???
Some have had their insides replaced with black paper. If you ask him about it, he’ll tell you he burned the CD himself, and that’s why the side is blank. You just stick a piece of paper in where the art normally goes.
He never really wants to play it. If you ask him to, or God forbid take the liberty of opening it and putting it into the player yourself, he’s quick to take it from you and put it somewhere high up until you leave. Even if you’re tall, are you ‘top of the kitchen cabinets’ tall? Go ahead, try. Without looking stupid and leaning on his countertop. Yeah, that’s what he thought.
There’s also a ridiculous amount of films. Pretty Woman and The Bridges of Madison County sit nicely next to Leone’s hoard. Sling Blade, a recording of a ballet company’s Swan Lake, The Silence of the Lambs, the tv special version of The Phantom of The Opera (as well as the black and white one), are all pressed tightly together to fit in the shelves.
It’s hard to imagine Leone genuinely enjoying all of this, especially considering you’ve never really seen him smile in the first place. You imagine he just exhales instead of properly laughing at the ‘funny’ parts.
His humor is a bit morbid, from your point of view. He probably laughs at the serious parts- sends himself into a laughing fit at the phantom going underwater with a stick to breathe. Or maybe he’s an elitist, and doesn’t watch films to amuse himself.
‘I watch them for the experience.’ You imagine him saying.
He’s lucky you haven’t caught him watching you.
You’re so precious like this. It’s the closest thing Leone’s had to domesticity with you. Going through his things while he fixes his makeup in the bathroom, where he can still monitor you but pretend he doesn’t care what you’re doing… He’ll replay this later to see which films caught your eye, so he can rewatch them, or put them on the next time you come over. Ohh, heey, silence of the lambs just happened to be on, you’re welcome to sit and watch while he leaves to go do anything other than sit next to you- despite suggesting that you amuse yourself with his things. It’s kind of rude to go through someone’s things, especially when they’re organized like this, but you’re not about to tell Leone a hard ‘no.’
You may have thought he was being sarcastic, ‘Yeah, come over to my house and dig through my shit, perfect.’ but he meant it. Getting to watch you browse in the confines of his apartment is the most fun he’s had in a while.
When Guido gets home and breaks the precious silence Leone was thrilled about, he’s quick to comment on you digging through their collection.
“Hey, what’s- dude??? Your little guest can dig through our shit but I can’t leave a movie I’m CURRENTLY WATCHING out on the table? That’s SO unfair.”
“You won’t put it back where you found it.”
… You take that as a sign that you need to clean up, and put everything back the way you vaguely remember. You’re successful- a few are out of order, but it’s mainly neat. You’re not really interested in hearing Leone bitch about how ‘perfect’ he had it.
What you don’t know, and Leone will never tell you, is that he will never change the order you put it back in. That’s how they will stay, forever. A subtle piece of you in his home… he could just melt, but he won’t. Not until he has the absolute privacy of his room, where he can shove his face into his pillow, and then spend the evening hand washing his makeup off of it.
Leone still hasn’t come out of the bathroom. He’s not about to shut the love of his life out- not when that handsy bastard is home and eager to touch what isn’t his, but he’s also not ready to be so bold and actually be near you. Leone has dibs, Guido should respect that, nevermind the fact that Leone has never verbally or physically expressed his attraction to you.
He’s probably the luckiest man alive to live somewhere convenient to you. His apartment is on your way to where Bucciarati tells you to meet him for jobs- it’s easier to crash at Leone’s when the weather isn’t very well intentioned. You normally leave once Bruno calls you, but it’s been an hour since the agreed meeting time. Normally Leone would be worried, but… making sure you’re fine is more of a priority to him, at the moment. He cares about Bruno- obviously, of course he does, he’s beyond grateful… but one of you is his obsession and the other makes him feel a great deal of guilt. Well. You both make him feel guilty, but one is an “I am indebted to you eternally” and the other is “If you ever find out I lick your calves when I replay you I am fucked” kind of guilt. Very different.
He snaps out of the thought when he notices you’re not where he left you. Leone’s not about to panic- if you’re still here, it makes him look like an overbearing host who needs to see you constantly and oh god what if you don’t like clingy guys. What if you dislike him and are secretly waiting around for Guido? Is that why you’re fine with the silence? Is that why you’re so content with him not really talking to you during your visits and just letting you sit around?
Leone finds his way into his kitchen, and scoffs at the display. You were being entertained by Guido. You’re playing his current favorite game: see how high he can pick you up before Leone kills the mood. Looks like today’s game isn’t going to be a record holder.
“Can you not do that in front of the food?”
“Whaaat? We’re just playing. Don’t be so bitter.”
“I’d rather your ‘playing’ not break the only real glass we have left.”
“Jeez. What’s up your ass today.” Guido puts you down, and moves on to pour himself a drink from the refrigerator.
Leone’s eyes flick towards your face, to check your expression. Any ounce of reassurance will hold him over for weeks. Look at me. Approve of me. Love me.
When you avoid his gaze, he glances at the clock on the wall, and leaves to go back to what he was doing.
To Leone, pretending not to look his way is just as good as fully paying attention to him.
He has a routine whenever he replays you. Firstly, he needs to make sure Guido isn’t going to be back for a while, so he sends him on some tedious errand he puts off with the intention of passing it off to poor, unknowing Guido. Secondly, he has to check what you were doing before you arrived, just in case. If you looked in any stores, if you tried to look in his window, what expression you were making just before you rang the doorbell. If you looked tense, he always tries to find out why.
That gorgeous face of yours seems content today, so he speeds the replay up…
When he opened the door for you the other day, you looked at him for a second longer than normal. A whole, unobstructed second. What did he ever do to deserve such a look?
He hates the way you look at anyone else. Nothing infuriates him more than his darling giving their precious attention to someone who entirely doesn’t deserve it. Not that he thinks he does, but… it’s better than anyone else having it.
It doesn’t matter, since this look was for him, not Guido, not Bruno, and nobody else. It doesn’t matter if it’s disdain, complete neutrality, or even pity. That gorgeous expression you’re making is intended for him, and he missed it, because he was pretending to not care about you being here.
He’ll get you one day. Maybe not today, or soon, but one day. One day, he’ll get to play husband for you, and won’t even have to think about his stand, but for now… this’ll hold him over.
One day, he’ll get to sit at your feet and give you the attention you deserve, but he’s trapped himself in this stupid “I hate you get away from me” act he’s putting up. A man can dream.

Laws of Attraction Eps 1 and 2 Stray Thoughts
For @lurkingteapot, @negrowhat, and @troubled-mind, here are some highlights from the voice recordings Bestie and I sent to the chat while we were watching the first two episodes.
Episode 1
Ben: They were death-flagging on this child, so David and I decided to take the over-under on how long it would take this child to die. We gave it five minutes. So, two minutes later.... David: They ran over that child like Wile E. Coyote!
David: I can't go to Thailand. Ben: I'm scared! I'm really scared!
Ben: I'm so excited. This is giving everything. We got a kid run over by a car after death flagging six different ways, and David's like that list better not be in that bag! Cuts to the bag. The list is covered in blood. David: This is a Mexican telenovela!!
Episode 2
Ben: Let's talk about this sandwich. This man put all this presentation into a single sandwich, which he cut in half! Then split between the two of them, garnished with a piece of lettuce, a slice of tomato, and a ton of onion....along with some orange juice from concentrate?? With bread that looks like it was burnt to within in inch of its life on a George Foreman Grill..... This man is insane.... Like we already knew that. This man is as insane as Bill in Kill Bill 2 using a whole chef's knife to spread mayonnaise on a sandwich.
Ben: Okay, David, you were correct. I'll give you a Clowned Correctly award. David said that that man is not touching him because he's insane and he absolutely wants that man to want him when he finally fucks him. I love it though! He's like, "You were drunk, and you puked on yourself. So I removed your clothes to clean you up, and lusted. I sure did! But I didn't touch you! Because that would get me 4-20 year in prison. And they're not gonna have my ruffles and bubble baths in prison." David: "I'm a not-so-secret luxurious bitch. I don't DO cells." Ben: This high sadity mofo's like, "Uh-uh. But! Since you're sober now!" David: "Let's talk!!" Ben: I love this man. David: "Good! What's really good?"
Ben: Not this man getting out of this car... David: With the gayest shirt! Ben: What the fuck is going on with this collar and these overlong goddamn sleeves? This man is a menace. David: This is giving, "Give me shirt but also a Faustian nightmare." Ben: He looks like someone just popped a can of cinnamon rolls. David: I can't want more for you than you want for yourself. Ben: I...am overdone...with this show... David: And not champagne colored! You're a gay man! You know better! Ben: Look how it's sitting on his shoulders! This is a travesty!
Ben: I know we comment on how unhinged this man is in every scene, but why is he taking the One Ring to Mordor as well?
Ben: This is the least insane he's looked in this show, and that's saying something. We've been here for nine hours.
Ben: I see why @ginnymoonbeam said this show might be for the KinnPorsche enjoyers because this is now the next show where we've watched a father slap his son in the most bitchless way possible. David: Slaps always come in threes! The first is your first salvo. The second, this time, is aiming to fuck up some real estate. The third is the disrespect.
David: They clearly defined her relationship with her employees. They are not afraid of her. If these are hoes, they feel taken care of. Ben: I don't know what the relationship is between Organ and Silvy's characters, but I hope we get to see them fuck on screen. David: If we don't, why am I here? I require women doing filthy shit to each other. I can get BL anywhere. I came to see women doing shameful things with each other. I came here for Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon in Bound. I did not come here for the Bridges of Madison County. Ben: Girl you ain't never lie!
David: I'm here for this. The unapologetic sissiness is what I live for. He had me when he pulled out that little gun. "Now, I can date you, but I can also put you down like a dog." You know there's nothing I love more than Gays With Guns. Look at God. Won't he do it. Ben: God had nothing to do with iQIYI.

TOMORROW X TOGETHER Dive into “Deja Vu” Through Old Photos and Videos
Tumblr media
"New experiences and opportunities keep coming along," says Soobin
TOMORROW X TOGETHER are back with a new EP, titled minisode 3: TOMORROW, which meant it was time for the members to be back on Consequence, too. Our 2023 cover stars have made a number of appearances with us over the years, from video interviews to email check-ins and album breakdowns.
To celebrate the new mini-album, we decided this could be the perfect excuse to take a walk down memory lane. It’s somehow already been three years since Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Hueningkai released minisode 1: Blue Hour. In that time, they’ve checked off some serious bucket list items, including completing multiple headlining tours, hitting No. 1 on the albums chart, and headlining Lollapalooza.
“Over those three years, I think we’ve become a lot more mature both emotionally and as artists,” says Hueningkai.
The guys are currently gearing up for their biggest North American tour yet, and on their upcoming “ACT : PROMISE” trek, they’ve upgraded to even larger arenas. They’ll be the first K-pop group to ever play the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in California, and they’ll be making their first appearance at Madison Square Garden in New York.
In the meantime, their third minisode album is out in the world. “The minisodes play a role as a bridge that connects the chapters,” explains Taehyun. The Name Chapter is officially over; who knows what’s next from these five?
Watch the new interview with TOMORROW X TOGETHER, in which the members react to old photos, some more recent TikToks, and even revisit a few questions from previous Consequence interviews to see how their answers hold up.

The Gilded Age's Broadway Divas: Aurora Fane (Kelli O'Hara)
Beloved by all, Aurora Fane enjoys a powerful position in Mrs. Astor's New York. Having suitably recovered from impending financial ruin last season, this season, Aurora has done some ill-fated matchmaking, worn some fantastic hats, and provided beautiful window dressing to scenes where she just sits there and looks pretty.
Tumblr media
One of Broadway's (few) leading sopranos, Kelli O'Hara is a dying breed. As trends shift towards a more pop/rock sound, and classical musical theatre becomes a thing of the past, Kelli nevertheless finds her niche. A seven-time Tony nominee, Kelli has won Best Leading Actress in a Musical for the 2015 revival of The King and I. You'll recall another Gilded Age Diva who won for that same role some years prior. A proshot of the NT Live production can be found online. It is a gorgeous shoot, even if I take issue with that show as a whole.
She has also been nominated for Kiss Me, Kate (2019), The Bridges of Madison County (2014), and The Light in the Piazza (2005). Ironically, though Aurora Fane supports The Academy, Kelli is a classically trained opera singer who has appeared on the Met Opera stage three times, and will play Laura Brown in an encore run of The Hours this spring. (See my breakdown post over costumes here.)
However, prior to her opera appearance, Kelli will be starring in the new Broadway musical Days of Wine and Roses for a limited 16-week run, opening on January 28th. Kelli has been nominated for every role she has played since 2005, and this will almost certainly be no different. Booked and busy.
#1: "Shall We Dance?" The King and I (2015)
youtube
Kelli's voice is otherworldly angelic. That much we already know very well. The King and I opened in 2015 at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center, the third musical Kelli has starred in at that venue. The Beaumont is, of course, right next to The Met Opera, and the only Broadway theater outside the theatre district in Midtown.
As Anna Leonowens, Kelli travels to Siam to teach the children and wives of the king how to speak English. Orientalism aside, the show is a classic Rodgers and Hammerstein, and the score is divine in Kelli's mouth. Fun fact: Kelli's replacement was Marin Mazzie in one of her last onstage roles. Marin was the Passion co-star and dear friend to Donna Murphy, our Mrs. Astor.
This video is from the 2015 Tony performance and showcases the incredible quick change Kelli makes between singing "Getting to Know You" and "Shall We Dance?" aided by a team of unbelievable dressers. It is a marvel to witness. As is Ruthie Ann Miles, Kelli's co-star who recently performed in the Encores! production of Light in the Piazza.
#2: "What More Do I Need?" Take Me to the World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration (2020)
youtube
In 2020, despite a global pandemic, the theatre community still found a way to honor Stephen Sondheim's milestone 90th birthday with an online concert. Kelli performed a song from Saturday Night, Sondheim's first professional musical that was slated for Broadway in 1955, but was scrapped. It only got its New York premiere in 2000. This particular number is a cabaret favorite, and Kelli is an absolute delight with just a camera and digital accompaniment.
Fun fact: it wasn't until this particular performance that I truly started to appreciate the wonder that is Kelli O'Hara. I had previously seen her in concert just that March, and loved her, of course, but I have a complex relationships with sopranos. I now recognize that I love mature sopranos, but it's the ingenues I can't listen to without wincing.
#3: "They Don't Let You In the Opera" (2016)
youtube
Lest we think Kelli is limited in her range and style, this song was written especially for her to showcase her vast talent and comedic timing. Kelli, an Oklahoma farmgirl, isn't the sort of person you'd expect to be both classically trained and country literate.
Kelli, who has been typecast as refined and often repressed characters who go through harrowing emotional experiences, much like Aurora Fane, is more than capable of bringing a rollicking comedy to the mix.
This number is a favorite in Kelli's concert repertoire. There isn't much more to say, except that you need to witness its hilarity for yourself.
#4: “Heaven? Somebody else’s heaven?” The Hours (2023)
youtube
Speaking of opera, here is an excerpt from a scene in Act II where Laura Brown has fled to a hotel room to contemplate some very serious courses of action. Kelli, alongside soprano Renee Fleming and mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, makes up a trio of phenomenal women in Kevin Putts' adaptation of the book and movie.
The Met Opera theatre seats nearly 4,000 people across six levels. The performers do not use body mics or amplification of any kind, but rather rely on intense vocal training to be heard across the theater. For this reason, alongside the vastly different vocal techniques and styles, musical theatre actors rarely cross over into opera, and vice versa. Notable exceptions include Renee Fleming, Kelli's Light in the Piazza co-star Victoria Clark, and Mary Beth Peil, who made her musical theatre debut in The King and I as yet another Miss Anna, hers in 1985.
#5: "So in Love," Kiss Me, Kate (2019)
youtube
Starring in yet another Golden Age musical revival, Kelli brings a different take on Lilli Vanessi, a glamorous movie star in a turbulent relationship. Kelli's vocal talent, of course, speaks for itself. For Kelli, this role was a tribute to her dear friend, the late Marin Mazzie, who had passed away some months before the show opened. Marin, who replaced Kelli in The King and I, had played this same role in the 1999 Broadway revival to great acclaim. In her first entrance of the show, Kelli wore a costume that featured the very same hat Marin wore in her show.
Though this video is beloved, my personal favorite rendition can be heard below. It was taken at a concert Kelli put on at the 92Y in New York last February. In it, Kelli sings for and to Marin, and the entire theatre wept.
Bonus: "Back to Before," Ragtime Reunion Concert (2023)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The role of Mother was originally workshopped by Donna Murphy in Toronto in the early 90s, but she left to do King and I, which worked out well for her. In came dear friend Marin Mazzie, who originated the role on Broadway, and established a precedent no other has been able to top. Also in that cast? Audra McDonald as Sarah, for which she won a Tony, of course.
In 2023, after years of pandemic-related delays, they staged a one-night reunion concert of this special show. And who better to take on Marin's iconic role than Kelli O'Hara? Listen to her "Back to Before" here, and then do yourself a favor and run, don't walk, to listen to Marin's.

the bridges of madison county is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking love stories i've ever seen, and it's a crime there aren't more people talking about it. i read the book and watched the movies a lot of times. the story in itself, the beauty, the tragedy, the intense love, the chemistry, the poetry, the pain, the sadness, the emotions, the impossibility, the "morally wrong" love, the way they were made for each other but were condemned to be together only four days, the way there's no happiness at all in the ending, no bitter sweet, no hopeful, only sad, the way their meeting came too late but wouldn't have worked sooner, the way everything seems so unfair and yet so logical, the way being separated was a torture but being together would have been the end, the way their love could work only this way, teared apart until the end, the way they never stopped loving each other. the way their love was supposed to happen but they were destined to experienced it together for four days only.
francesca being such an amazing and interesting woman, robert being such an amazing and interesting man. them being older than most characters in love stories. the messages about dreams and lost dreams, dreams we wanted to realize but that died over time, dreams we let to die because we did what we were expected to do or followed someone else, dreams women had but had to give up because of marriage and motherhood. the messages about classic family and women's place in society, about marriage, about children, about technology, about love, about existing without living and realizing one day we wasted our time, about how important it is to appreciate beauty, about how sometimes things are impossible and unfair and there's nothing you can do, about how you sometimes forget yourself and your dreams, lost in a life that isn’t the one you wanted, and about how a single person is enough to remind you of who you really are and of what you really want. about how painful it is to have to let this person go. about whether it is a good thing or not to think of people in your life first, before thinking of yourself. about how talking about other people's lifes can be horrible and dangerous. about how choosing safety and security isn’t always the right solution. about how love isn’t only being with someone good, but someone who makes you vibrate and live. about how life isn’t over after 30, about how love can come anytime. about how sometimes it comes but can't do anything more. about art. about travelling. about life.
i just really love the bridges of madison county.

Ooh, I can ask some questions if you're in the mood. I saw your post about wanting to have that on your blog. Anyway, here it is:
1. What movies make you cry each time you watch them?
2. Who is your favorite book heroine and why?
3. A celebrity crush you had as a teenager and what made them appealing to you?
4. Which is your favorite fashion era and why?
5. Is there something you wish you could do, but never had the chance yet?
that's a lot of questions this is so lovely!! thank you!!!!!
to be frank i don't rewatch movies that often so i cannot really say!!! i've probably cried the hardest watching the bridges of madison county some years ago and i don't want to go through that again hhhh. i think when i decide to rewatch something it's always a movie that won't make me cry. my most rewatched movies are probably stand by me, bill & ted's excellent adventure and napoleon dynamite
going through my goodreads i realized that sooo many of my highest rated books have male protagonists, i need to change it. right now i'm reading myra breckinridge by gore vidal and i adore her. her obsession with gold age of hollywood and her personality are so captivating (and of course i've seen the movie so i just picture raquel welch in wonderful outfits while reading which makes the character even more iconic to me)
for some reason the first person that came to my mind was ewan mcgregor. i became obsessed with him after watching star wars prequels. and tbh what was appealing about him (other than his looks obviously which was a major factor) was the fact that he is goofy and not scared of playing in weird movies and just getting all naked in them from time to time. i lost interest when he started picking more mainstream movies and also when he left his wife aadfdf that was the last straw for me
ooof that's a hard one. probably 50s/60s/70s. i adore the patterns, the colours and the way clothes from this era fit on the body. when it comes to more historical things 19th century also had some gorgeous clothes but i'm not that knowledgeable on that, all i know is that early 19th century empire waist dresses are boring to me
not to be a sad loser on main but go on a date 🤧🤧 i refuse to use tinder so that's not happening anytime soon for me. but a girl can dream

Downtown Gotham: Part Three
Tumblr media
Iceberg Lounge: Before it became the Iceberg Lounge, the building was home to the Gotham Customs House. At one point, the land was part of a proposal for a new waterfront public park, but the project was left in limbo due to soil toxicity. A few years later, after an unusually short application process, Oswald Cobblepot swooped in and bought the property. Turns out he had bribed the inspector to falsify the soil report so he could buy the land for cheap. He demolished part of the building and rebuilt it around his new nightclub to make it look partly like an iceberg. The main club space offers good vantage points if we ever need to navigate the building covertly. Oswald has since been conducting all his business (both legal and illegal) from the Iceberg Lounge. The building is guarded 24/7 despite Oswald's claims to have gone legit. Regardless, he remains a valuable source of information.
Tumblr media
New Trigate Bridge: In 1881, the New Trigate Bridge was the first of three bridges to be built to provide better access to the various islands around Gotham City. The other two were Madison and 22nd, now known as Robert Kane Memorial bridge. Together, these bridges were known as "the three sisters". My ancestor Alan Wayne hired stepbrothers Nicholas Anders and Bradley Gates for the project. Each of Gotham City's founding families - The Waynes, the Elliots and the Cobblepots - had their names adorned on one of the bridges. The Kanes eventually achieved the same when a fourth bridge was built, though its construction is marred in controversy. Bradley Gates, one of the two brothers responsible for the project, died on the site. His brother Nicholas thought it was the result of foul play and went mad with grief, killing Cameron Kane, who he thought had sabotaged the bridge in order to redirect it to his own county. No one could ever prove this, but the Kane family definitely benefitted from the whole affair.
Tumblr media
Quartz Labs: Quartz Labs specializes in engineering, installation and testing of commercial security systems. They've served many corporate clients located in Gotham City, like Star City Bank and Stagg Industries. Quartz wanted to add WayneTech to their client list; but I declined, given that our systems were already nearly unbreachable thanks to Lucius. They enjoyed substantial business growth in the 2000s as the crime-rate spiked and IT infrastructure became a bigger target. The Quartz Labs facility in the Financial district is equipped with shielded chambers to test their hardware against wireless intrusion and EMF pulses. Their setup is very similar to what Lucius and I used to test new gear for Batman.
Tumblr media
Gotham City National Bank: This specific branch of the Gotham City National Bank was constructed in 1908 and was the second to be established in the Financial District. They manage the accounts of many of Gotham City's richest families, including my own. A lot of the original architecture has been preserved, which means the high ceiling and arches provide good vantage points and perches in case the bank ever needs to be infiltrated stealthily. I've lost count of the number of times Two-Face and his hired guns have tried to rob this particular bank. Of course, I do business with multiple banks across the city, so that if something were to be stolen, it would be a small loss. Notes: I created a second account for each of you in case of emergency. Alfred has the accounts' information.

I've read that she's a fan of Clint Eastwood. I like him too, hence this story. Your Strawberry
Clint Eastwood
When he entered the living room, he was surprised to see his wife already sitting on the sofa waiting for him. "Am I late?" he asked, irritated. "No," she said. "I just got comfortable already so we could watch the movie as soon as you got here," she explained. "Why are you so nervous?" he wanted to know, sensing how excited she was.
She avoided his gaze. "I'm not nervous," she denied. He raised an eyebrow, sensing he was right in his assumption. He didn't elaborate and curiously asked, "What are we looking at?" "The Bridges of Madison County," she replied, not looking at him. With a deliberate frown, he asked, "Do I have to know it?" Her eyes met his and for this utterance he earned a roll of his wife's eyes.
"Of course you have to know that film. Clint Eastwood plays the lead," she indignantly said. "Clint Eastwood it is," he teased her, deliberately emphasising the famous actor's name. She realised he had deliberately provoked her and he saw her cheeks redden slightly. "We wouldn't happen to be watching a film with your favourite actor, would we?" he teased further.
"I'll never tell you anything from my youth again," she warned, scowling at him. He smirked, for he wasn't even thinking of letting her off the hook. "We're not talking about the Clint Eastwood whose poster hung over your bed, are we?" he continued unabashedly. "The man with the raw masculinity," he added, watching another delightful blush spread across her cheeks. She threw a pillow at him, which he caught with a laugh.
Thoughtfully he looked at her. "The film is about a woman whose husband and children are away for a few days. A photographer wants to take pictures of the bridges in the area and the two fall in love at first sight. They spend a night together, but in the end she stays with her family. When her husband dies, she searches for him. But it is not until he has passed away that she inherits his belongings and scatters the ashes under the bridge. When she herself dies, her children find her diaries and eventually she is scattered in the same place. A beautiful but sad story," he mused.
Fascinated, she had listened to him. "You know the film," she observed softly. "I know everything you like and I'm terribly jealous of Clint Eastwood," he stated. "Why?" she asked in amazement. "Because he was hanging over your bed when I didn't even know you." She laughed. "When you weren't even born yet," she added. He shook his head warningly. "And I'm jealous when you blush at the mention of his name," he added, sitting down and pulling her to him.
"You know," she began, "I like Clint Eastwood a lot. But I couldn't have known then that I would meet a man who was better than him." With that she elicited a questioning look from him. "Better?" he hitched, his face contorting to make it clear to her that that word was not the right one. "More beautiful?" she went into his spiel and saw his eyes narrow. "Men are not beautiful," he countered. "More masculine?" she tried again. His look seemed thoughtful. "A little better than handsome, but not yet convincing," he spoke. She put a finger to her lips and thought. Then she looked at him seductively. "How about sexier?"
She saw satisfaction in his gaze as he nodded. "Sexier than Clint Eastwood and Chris Evans. Yes, that sounds very good," he confirmed. She laughed as she remembered her statement on a quiz show. Then she became serious again and took his face between her hands. "If I had to choose between you and Clint Eastwood, I'd choose you every time," she whispered to him.
"Prove it," he demanded. "How?" she asked, irritated. "The film or me?" he asked and she laughed. "You," she replied before pulling him close and kissing him passionately. After she had proved to him that he was the only man in her life she was interested in, he turned on the film and held her in his arms the whole time.
Hellooo sweet 🍓! ❤️
But why am I not surprised that Emmanuel knew exactly what that movie was about?! I don't know what is more adorable tho. Brigitte blushing at the mention of Clint Eastwood or Emmanuel actually being jealous of him! That little game of words between them tho, precious!
And btw, it's my favourite movie too 😉
Thank you so much, Strawberry! ❤️❤️❤️

hi! <3 61 and 70, if you feel like answering them :)
hiii! thank youu 🫶🏼
61. A movie your parents introduced you to?
there's movies i associate with them individually, like oh that is a dad movie or that is a mum movie, but the bridges of madison county is one that gets both of them so mopey and they're bawling their eyes out. and fair enough it is a very touching and sad movie.
70. The first movie you saw on its opening night?
tbh it was probably a twilight movie back in the day or a marvel one 😭
