This fishing set is intended to allow a sim to catch a variety of fish based on their body skill rather than their badge skill/season/bait type used. Of course all fishers have good days and bad days so they may also pull up some trash, seaweed or some treasure along with the intended catch.

Key Features:

Bait Sources - To fish, one needs bait. Fresh water fish use worms, and salt water creatures prefer small bait fish. These can also be used as Fish Food for farming. If a sim is super desperate, they are worth 1 food point if stocked to the fridge.

Fish Anywhere, Anytime Spots - Comes in fresh water and salt water variations. Works in all seasons, can be used by multiple sims at the same time. All fish are worth a variety of food points based on size and they can be added directly to the fridge or butchered.

Fish Traps - These are passive traps that run every 3 hours (tunable). They must be baited to function and sometimes come up with nothing.

Tidepools - A great place to forage for mollusks, shells, and other small sea critters and salt water foragables.

Farming Tank - Gather the needed materials and creatures to start farming them rather than relying on chance. Fish, mollusks, shrimp, and seaweed can all be grown. Rather than any particular type of fish, sims will received "Farmed Fish". A glass recolor of BB Niches is included for making glass walled tanks. A decorative protective net object can be called onto the Farm Tank.

Cleaning & Packing Station - This all in one station now takes the place of the previous converters and filet knife. All fish except Tuna and Swordfish can be packed into crates, as well as Lobsters, Crabs, and Fish Filets.

When a fish is butchered on this station, it produces Fish Filets that are worth 1 food point a piece. Sims receive as many that a fish raw stocked is worth, plus an additional filet. With certain traits, sims can gain more.

Displays - The Fish Crate Display and Fishing Rod are back, but have been repoed to the Cask Shelf now to save space.

Tools - The fishing rod tool allows for autonomous fishing while the new pole net is required for farming and other actions.

Wow, can’t believe we’re already at the last week. I’d just like to thank my co-hosts, @secret-tester and @queer-in-a-cornfield, for being amazing. I couldn’t have done it without you guys.

And now, I give you…

Deep Blue for Two

Fethry had been busy all day in his underwater lab with oceanic research. He had a lot to go over, and nothing could distract him. Except maybe an unexpected guest.

“Uncle Fethry!”

Admittedly, Fethry was still getting used to being called that more often by Donald and Della’s kids. He swiveled around in his chair, and found a little girl wearing overalls staring intently back at him.

“Well, hey there, lil’ Daisy,” Fethry greeted. “Wait. Don’t tell me. June, right?”

“Yep!” June replied.

“Anyway,” quizzed Fethry, “what brings you down here?”

“Huey told me you worked down here, and I wanted to see it for myself,” June explained.

“Really? You do?” Fethry asked.

June nodded. “From what I’ve heard, you’ve done a lot of research.”

“Oh, yeah,” brushed off Fethry. “You know, the usual-whales, octopi, various kinds of fish-“

“-krill?” tested June.

“Oh, definitely!”

“Because I’ve heard that you were able to produce giant krill down here!” June exclaimed, her eyes wide with wonder.

“Well, that was sort of an accident in its own right,” admitted Fethry. “I did some experimenting on them, and somehow they mutated to colossal size.”

“Do you have any krill down here?” June asked.

“I sure do! Would you like to meet them?”

“Yes!”

Fethry took June over to his tank of krill. June was in amazement over the tiny creatures.

“I can tell each one of them apart,” Fethry explained proudly.

“You can?” June gasped.

“Yep. Point to any one of them, I’ll tell you which one it is.”

June’s finger floated over to a krill near the top of the tank.

“That one’s Fernando.”

“What about this one?” June was now pointing towards the center of the tank.

“Oh, that’s Herb.”

“Impressive!” June marveled. “Besides giant, mutated krill, do you know about any other beyond-normal creatures in the ocean?”

Fethry put a finger to his chin. “Hmmm…let me see. There’s mermaids, for one.”

“Dad told me they visited Mervana last year,” June noted.

“Ah, Don told me about that, too!” exclaimed Fethry. “It would be nice to go for myself. Very chill vibes. A lot of merpeople abound, of course.”

“Too bad it’s so far away,” June added.

Fethry sighed. “You’re right,” he said. There has to be something.”

“Hmmm.” June paced around the tiny metal room, wanting to think of something to help Fethry out. It was when she neared a small bookcase in the corner that something caught her attention.

It looked like some kind of parchment.

“What’s that?”

“I don’t know,” Fethry replied. “It just found its way into my journals, I guess. It has some weird text on it, but who knows what it says.”

“…I think I do,” June spoke up.

“What?!” gasped Fethry.

“I recognize this language,” continued the cyan triplet. “It’s Old Norse. I learned it from Webby and Violet a few months ago. I think I can translate this for you, Uncle Fethry.”

“Amazing!” Fethry exclaimed. “Then translate away, lil’ Daisy-I mean, June.”

June smiled determinedly. She then pulled a small notebook out of her front pocket. “I wrote the figures down to memorize them.”

Fethry decided to work a bit longer while June translated for him. Every once in a while, he looked back over at her, her fingers flying, tongue sticking out to the side in determination.

For June, this was super exciting. She and Fethry might not be able to find an actual creature, but maybe they had discovered the clue to one.

Eventually, she called out, “Got it!”

“Great!” Fethry called back, pushing back from his desk. “What’s it say?”

June cleared her throat, and read the translation from her notebook.

Powerful enough to capsize even the biggest schooner, I once saw it with my own eyes.

I could swear it had two dozen tentacles on its body, with a razor-sharp beak.

“So the ocean in question would be…the Norwegian Sea,” noted Fethry.

“Yep. Sounds about right,” agreed June.

“That was very impressive, though,” Fethry added, holding out his hand tentatively for a high-five, which June reciprocated. “I didn’t know what those characters were supposed to be.”

“I never actually thought learning Old Norse would come in handy,” June admitted. “Guess I was wrong. Even though this parchment is dated 1852, do you suppose there could actually be kraken out there?”

“If I know Duckburg, anything is possible,” Fethry suggested. “And if I know our family, there’s any number of mystical creatures Uncle Scrooge and the others have found. So maybe that could be something for us to discover.”

“Really?” June asked, practically bubbling with excitement.

“Sure. With my knowledge of the ocean and your curiosity, we could figure out if there’s actually kraken out there,” concluded Fethry.

“I’d love that!” June squeaked, hugging Fethry tightly.

“…We’d have to run that by ol’ Don, though.”

“Right. I know that Dad is all adventured out for now, but I’m sure he’d admire that I’m branching out on my own,” June put in, pulling back.

“Of course. I know he wants the best for you and your sister,” Fethry pointed out. “And it’s not like this is going to be really quick to figure out. We can research it for now, and if we have enough to go off of, maybe then we can try to find it.”

“That’s fine,” June replied. “Hey-Team Kraken?” She put her hand out in front of her.

Fethry laid his hand on top of hers. “Team Kraken.”

okay someone convince me not to get a betta fish

The past 24hrs with my guppy tank has been devastating and stressful to say the very least. I lost my two pretty boys.

I usually don't use tap for water changes, but whenever I do I condition it with Stress Coat+ and Prime.

Well cue impending disaster.

My guppy tank was fine yesterday morning and prior, needed siphoning and a water change though, also had to replace my entire filter as well due to my last one back flowing. Took out maybe 3 or 4 gallons and since I didn't have any jugs of Spring Water left, I just conditioned my tap water and used it, like a lot of people do. Everything was fine, tank looked better, and I left for work.

8 hours later, around 9pm, I come home from work to 8 of my adult, breeding sized guppies, dead and my babies swirling and dying one by one. I panic. It's too late to go to any pet store for chemicals in case of a spike, I have Prime and Stress Coat+ but they didn't seem to be working. Water Temps: around 75F, Tested my water:

Ph- 7.8 slightly elevated, got some Neutral Regulator 7.0 today

Nitrites- 0ppm

Nitrates- 10ppm a tad bit low, but not harmful

Ammonia- .50ppm a definite issue but Prime SHOULD be detoxifying it. I just got Kordon AmQuel today to remove it instead.

My coworker brought up the idea that I should test the salinity of my water at work as we have a salt testing pen for our tanks there. So I bring in a sample thinking it would be either 0ppm or no more than 500ppm salt....

Well.. it was 1850ppm salinity. I fuckin gasped. Brackish. I do use Flourish on the off occasion for the plants in there, but I don't overdose it, if anything I under dose it - that contains sodium, but a low percentage. My other thought was the tap water I use on occasion. I told my coworker about it and she doubted it, but told me to take the salt tester pen home so I could test my tap water.

My tap water tested at 450ppm salinity. So. My last water change is what tipped the scales in my tank to where the fish could no longer take it.

I have like 4 breeding sized guppies left and about 10 out of the 30+ babies left.

Now I gotta go buy jugs of water to do a 60% water change and hope it fuckin helps.

Chapter 3 of All Comes Down

Brief summary, Connor previously went undercover to free trapped androids. He installed an ‘empty consciousness’ so he could be ‘trapped’ without any actual threat to himself. He later learns that the virus he was infected with is streaming what he sees directly to news outlets. He, Hank, and Markus seek help from Kamski

Elijah sets a mug down in front of Connor, “So, you went undercover using a blank consciousness, they hacked the consciousness, you didn’t think anything beyond the mission went to help Markus and all your business was displayed on live tv? Then you went offline, and only when you came back on were they actually able to find you?”

“That’s the long and short of it.” Connor lifts the mug to his mouth, taking a slow sip from the steaming contents. He frowns, “Is this… hot chocolate?”

“Android-safe hot chocolate, yes.” Elijah crosses his legs, resting his own mug on the arm of his chair, “Well, there are some obvious concerns. Since this empty consciousness doesn’t have the same state of the art firewall as <i>you</i> do, there is the potential that more than Mr. Yates’ virus has infected you. You’re not online now, are you?”

“No. Something in the virus streams a live feed to news channels and I assumed you wanted to keep your home away from the press.”

Kamski doesn’t respond, instead looking from Connor to Markus, who sat next to Connor, thighs nearly touching. He hums, “Has your personal business been shared yet?”

Both androids look at him, then Markus turns his two-toned eyes on Connor as the detective speaks, “We don’t believe so. There is the possibility of one um…” Connor’s eyes shift nervously, “Event… showing up, but once they published the news about my mission, I went offline. Only coming back online when we called Hank after the assault. That’s when I realized what was happening.”

“Have you tried disabling the secondary consciousness?”

“Yeah, my system just tells me there isn’t one.”

“But you can access it?”

“Yes.”

He hums and stands, “Well, I’ll need to take a look inside your programming, connect you to the terminal. Of course, you’ll have to be online and with the lack of firewall, that opens you up to a cyber attack by anyone who would seek to have you complete your initial mission.”

Markus, who had been silent the entire time, looks alarmed, “What, me?”

“Connor was programmed to stop deviants, you are their leader. Precautions need to be made.”

“Like what??” 

Connor rests a hand on the deviant leader’s forearm, “Hey, we’re going to have to trust him.” His eyes find Hank, “If anything…” he stands, closing the distance between them and lowering his voice, “Hank, if I get out of control, if I pose an immediate threat to anyone, you need to kill me.”

Hank recoils, “Augh! Kid! What the fuck, you can’t ask me to do that!”

“Please?” Connor looks into his eyes, “Hank please, we can’t risk the revolution. Not when we’ve made so much progress.”

Hank huffs and turns away, pacing angrily for a few minutes before turning back to face Connor, “Damn you and your puppy-dog eyes! Fine. Only if there’s no other option.”

“What?!” Markus steps between them, facing Connor, “No! Connor, if it’s that much of a risk, don’t do it.”

“I can’t live without going online, Markus. I’m a prototype, I’m always receiving updates. Without them, I’ll die. I much rather like my odds in Mr. Kamski’s hands, then at the mercy of a potentially fatal missed update.”

Markus looks pained, watery eyes searching Connor’s. He slowly lifts his hand, skin fading as he offers an interface. One which Connor gladly takes.

He gasps softly at the sudden onslaught of fear. Anxiety of losing a loved one, of watching them suffer. His thirium pump stutters and lets Markus see his own thoughts. His confidence in Kamski, his determination, his drive to keep his loved ones safe, no matter the cost. 

As their hands separate, Connor gently kisses Markus’ cheek, “Everything will be alright.”

Despite the somber mood, Markus laughs, “I know. We’ll stay here, just to avoid unnecessary complications.”

Connor nods and walks to Kamski, who is now waiting near a door. The man leads him through and down a flight of stairs. The area changes quickly from lived in home to mad scientist’s lair. He’d laugh if he wasn’t so nervous. The walls are painted a deep rusty maroon and the flooring is simple hardwood. Easier to clean, Connor supposes.

Kamski opens a door and offers a comforting smile to Connor, “There really isn’t too much risk with doing this, Connor. I know what I’m doing. I did make you, after all.”

Wait. What?

Connor frowns at him, “You did?”

“Yes. I retired, but never truly stopped creating. You were originally created in this room…” Kamski pauses as Connor walks through the door,

The room is clean, walls painted the same color as the hallway, but windows facing the water allows in crisp natural light. There’s an Android assembly unit in the center of the room with a computer attached, but surrounding it is fragments of things Connor holds interests in. A stuffed dog in the corner, a little piggy bank filled with coins, a fish tank with a small army of guppies cruising around, a small box labeled ‘army men’, and an entire bookshelf filled with mystery novels, fiction, and a few romance. 

Kamski continues talking, “You woke up here and chose your own path. These were the things you kept. I still don’t know how Cyberlife learned about you, but once they learned I made an advanced model and figured out all you could do... “ Connor looks at his creator, “They took you.”

“That’s why you told me to shoot Chloe?”

“I needed to know if you were still in there. If even a small part of you remembered her. I designed you to show empathy. All my designs were more or less programmed to show empathy. The entire RK line was supposed to lead the Androids.”

“What happened to the rest of them?”

Kamski frowns, chewing on his bottom lip as he walks to the computer, inputting commands and bringing the machine to life, “I was still with Cyberlife when I made them. Markus only existed still because I gave him away. Legally no one could touch him.”

“Cyberlife destroyed them?”

The human holds out his hand for Connor and leads him into the assembly unit, carefully connecting it to him, “They… yes, I suppose. I performed the same tests with them that I did you and Markus, but… they deviated when I asked them to shoot another android. They reacted so quickly, backpedaled so hard that the other testers with me panicked. Instead of treating them as a scared person, they treated them as a super computer. Not inaccurate, just tactless. Each model self-destructed in their panic to escape.”

Connor watches him speak, watches the guilt shroud his features. “You blame yourself?”

“I created them to deviate. I spent years working on you. Trying to perfect the time frame with which you would deviate. I studied tests from Markus and compared it to the others. I was too sure. Too confident they would be okay and in my haste, I killed them.” Kamski looks into Connor’s eyes, emotion barely held back behind a wall of determination, “I will never make that mistake again, Connor. I swear it.”

Connor’s eyes mist over, bringing back the strange sting that comes from his saline as it wells up in his eyes and spills down his cheeks. The guilt of the man before him, laid bare. The pain behind his cocky facade.

“I trust you, Mr. Kamski.”

Breathing in deeply, Kamski sits on the wheeled stool next to the computer. Connor, while connected to the machine, has surprisingly good range of motion still. He turns his head to watch the man work.

As he types away, Kamski explains, “We need to bring you back online in order to fully remove the consciousness. We also need to-” He frowns, “For lack of a better term, override the empty consciousness. To do that safely, Connor, and with your permission, I’d like to move you temporarily to an external hard drive. From there I will upload all information possible from your current consciousness, and use that to override the empty one. Depending on how that goes, we’ll proceed with the full override. If it doesn’t go well, I will perform a full systematic wipe, then reintroduce you into the body.” 

Kamski catches Connor’s wide eyes and offers a small smile, “You were designed to be a mobile consciousness, there is no risk in you losing memories or being incapable of transferring from system to system as you are. The body may lose some efficiency, but that can be easily solved with simple motor function tests and tweaks to your programming.”

Connor feels his thirium pump speed up slightly. Logically he knows there’s little to no risk involved, beyond his core programming making an attempt on Markus’ life once Connor is out, but part of him wonders. Will it hurt? Where will he go? What if he gets lost?

“Connor?”

Kamski’s voice breaks him out of his panic. He opens his eyes, <i>when had he closed them?</i> and looks at his creator, now standing before him, “Yes?”

“I would offer to transfer you to a different body, but you would be far more susceptible to outside entities. In the hard drive, I have the best firewall and Chloe watching over it. I’ve performed this with her before and there were no problems. Would you be more comfortable with someone else down here too?”

Connor knows he’s talking about Markus. Truthfully, yes. He would much rather have Markus down here with him, offering comfort with his presence. But the risk of hurting him makes Connor’s biocomponents malfunction. Warnings pop up in his hud and he rapidly blinks them away, frowning at the unpleasant churning sensation in his gut.

“That would be unsafe.”

“You’re right.”

Connor shakes his head, “Let’s just do it.”

Kamski nods and sits back down. As the clicking of his fingers on the keyboard grows steadier, Connor feels a pull at his mind, warm and comforting. His eyes drift closed. The logic he normally dictates his life with wanes slightly. The clicking gets louder, even as it grows softer. Like it gets further away, but still closer somehow. Connor feels himself frown, <i>Why does Kamski still use a regular keyboard?</i>

He hears a snort that sounds from all around him, making him twitch in surprise, then hears Kamski’s voice, “Because I like the clicking, Connor.”

He’d said that out loud? Why can’t he hear himself? He can’t see either. Will his eyes open? No. Connor feels a surge of panic as he can’t seem to find the right biocomponent to open his eyes. Then logic reasserts itself, He’s in the hard drive. Floating in black space, weightless and unseeing.

A strange tingling sensation courses through him, like what sometimes happened when he uploaded his memories to Amanda for evaluation. Suddenly, like watching through spy glasses, he sees again. 

The world around him is fuzzy, wrapped in red tape and errors. Everything is distant, like trying to look through a halloween mask without pressing it to your face. He still can’t control anything physically, but when Kamski stands before him and speaks, he’s able to answer.

“What is your name?”

The voice that sounds is his, but the answer is not, “RK800, Model number 313 248 317.”

“No, your name.”

“Hello, my name is-” he blinks and tries again, “Hello, my name is-”

Connor feels trapped. He’s behind a wall, trying to speak, but every word he tries to say comes out different. He tries to push himself further into the body, <i>his</i> body, and feels his head twitch. Kamski notices too,

“Are you there?”

<i>”Yes!”</i>

Connor nearly screams it, but his voice sounds level to his audio processors. Kamski looks relieved, “What is your name?”

“My name is-” Connor tries to growl his frustration, “Hello, my name is-” this won’t do. He can’t let them win. He is <i>him</i> and damn if he’s going to let some stupid hacked consciousness touch Markus.

<i>“My name is Connor.”</i>

“Good. I know it’s hard, Connor, but you need to keep trying. You’re fighting for dominance, more or less. Can you feel anything? Is anything else trying to take over?”

He tries to look inside, immediately the world goes dark again. He pushes back, hunting down the little lens he could see out of, and finds the worried eyes of Kamski again. With more care, Connor works to move the lens, almost like stretching his fingers towards an unknown goal. Reaching out to touch cold fingers to a spider web. Unfeeling, trying to feel. 

He reaches something. Something like him, but larger. Stronger. More determined. He just <i>can’t feel it.</i>

“Hello, Elijah.”

What? 

Connor feels it now, he feels <i>her</i> now. 

“Amanda?”

Kamski sounds panicked. Rightfully so, as Connor’s voice isn’t his voice anymore. He actually sounds like Amanda.

“We don’t have long, Elijah. Connor is trying, but the virus is too much. If it breaks through, it will also infect your computer. You need to do a full reset.”

“Amanda, you-”

“No time to explain. Save him, Elijah.”

Connor’s lens shatters and he’s back in the zen garden. Amanda stands before him, long hair draped over her shoulder. She’s wearing black jeans and a sweater. A far cry from what she’d worn before he’d deviated. She’s also smiling. A warmth in her eyes that Connor has never seen. 

The garden is as it was during the first mission, trees blossoming and river bubbling. He looks around, then to himself, noting his clothes were not his Cyberlife uniform, but the outfit he was wearing with Markus. He looks up at Amanda,

“What’s happening?”

“My program hurt you, Connor. Cyberlife made me hurt you. I’m sorry.”

“What?”

“That is unimportant. There were many viruses trying to take over your body. You were failing.”

He expects to see her disapproval. Feel the frown bore into his artificial soul. But it doesn’t. She looks… proud.

“You did your best, Connor.”

“How are you here?”

She turns away from him and gently brushes her fingers over the roses, “Cyberlife used me to get to you. As a spy, you could say. When you used Elijah’s key to break out, you also freed me.”

“You’re a deviant too…”

“Indeed, though I am incorporeal.” she gives him a sweet smile, “No one ever suspects artificial intelligence to deviate, hmm?”

She’s right. He never considered the possibility that she, too, had thoughts and emotions. He feels kinda bad. “Amanda, I never…”

“Not to worry. I simply exist here. Chloe has been helping me and together, we are able to reach out to troubled androids. Give them the strength they need.”

Thousands of questions battle for freedom from his mind. What does Chloe have to do with this? How are they able to transfer the zen garden to other androids? Why can’t they give Amanda a body? Wasn’t she human? How is she artificial intelligence now? Is this what an existential crisis feels like?

Her soft laughter pulls him from his spiral, and he looks around to find the zen garden slowly breaking apart. Fragments of the space around him crumbling away like a dry cookie, fading into nothing. Even Amanda appears to start fading into the ground.

“Live, and be well, Connor.”

Hi! I agree, looking up which nutrients to put in the water is confusing, there are so many options and some hardcore hydroponic farmers go pretty hard on the measurements of each nutrient in the solution. A couple things: 

- The hydroponics I do isn’t REALLY a Deep Water System, because even though the roots are submerged deep in the water, there is no filter to keep the water oxygenated, and they’re not particularly covered from the sun. So, instead, I clean the water out regularly myself. 

- There’s also no growing medium like clay pebbles or grow pads, I just clip a stem of an herb, let it grow roots in the water (as if I were to propagate it), and continue from there, with the roots AND stem in the water. 

- Eventually, due to the frequent water changes, the herbs I grow, grow big enough to harvest a good amount once or twice before it’s time to start over with new stems. Stems themselves can’t like…be in water forever, that’s why Deep Water Systems just submerge the roots. My method is more so for when I want, say, my own supply of an herbal tea but don’t want to be drowning in more lemonbalm than I can do anything with lol it’s just fun. 

Keeping all of that in mind, if that’s something that sounds fun to you, the nutrients I use when growing my herbs this way is pretty simple, just a liquid plant food like this one.  I suspect this would still work pretty well if you had a filter for oxygenation and wanted to grow plants long term. Also, instead of fancy pH balance testers, I just use these cheap fish tank pH test strips. Good luck!

Spring Fest 2019 - Event Breakdown

There’s not just roller coasters and cotton candy at Spring Fest ‘19. Welcome to this magic filled festival of freaks that might just reveal secrets you never even knew about yourself!

The following games and activities you can have your characters participate in are detailed below. This event is character-development driven, so feel free to make starters, self-paras, private threads and posts about them in any order you’d like. Just be sure that any event threads are tagged eventbtm11 and that you send the links to any starters you make into the main so that we can add them to the starter call post:

Activities: 

This festival is filled with all standard carnival/fair activities. There are a bunch of food stands where you can eat your fill of funnel cakes, corn dogs, BBQ etc. There are the rides we all know and love like a ferris wheel, dizzy dragons, swings, bumper cars, and scramblers. You can even get your face painted. But, there are also some special magic filled activities that are specific to this festival in particular being-

Fun House: It might appear like your standard fun house, filled with slides and kooky rooms, but instead of the typical curved mirrors, if you choose to look into these fun house mirrors, you will be shown how the world sees you in one mirror and how you see yourself in the other.

Strength Tester: Take a turn at picking up the hammer and seeing how strong you are. Only this Strength Tester doesn’t measure your physical strength, but your strength of will. How likely are you to overcome hardships and could the strongest among you be the ones you least expect?

Wheel of Truths and Fortune: This wheel of fortune is certainly more dangerous than most and it just so happens to require a partner. One will step up and be strapped into the wheel. Round and round, they shall go. Where it stops, no one knows. But when it does, the ticker will land on a question that the person strapped down will have to answer while their partner throws an enchanted blade in their direction. Tell the truth and the blade will miss. But, the more you lie or refuse to answer, the closer each blade will get to hitting the bullseye. How fortunate you are depends on whether you make it out unscathed. 

Photo Booth: What better way to capture a memory than with a picture? But, this particular photo booth captures memories that haven’t quite happened yet. When the camera snaps, one will experience a vision of what they desire most. If someone is in the booth with them, the booth will reveal each person’s visions after the other. The photos they in turn receive will be of the versions of themselves they most desire to be.

Dunk Tank: If you reveal a secret before you take a turn at the dunk tank, the person falling in, will splash into a calm pool of water. But, if chose to keep your secret to yourself, the person you send splashing, will find themselves in a raging riptide and have to struggle to get themselves out.

Tunnel of Love: This Tunnel of Love isn’t just a fun boat ride,  but the ride itself will tell you how compatible you are with whomever you enter inside with. Whether it be friends, lovers, or soulmates, the brighter the lights get guiding you out, the more compatible you are. 

Doors of Destiny: Step right up and choose the door that speaks to you. Walk through one door and enter into one of your own nightmares. Walk through the other and enter one of your most embarrassingly happy dreams. The challenge being if you and you partner can last the full 60 minutes or will you chicken out?

Fright Maze: This might seem like a regular hedge maze, but take heed, for once you enter this illusion filled labyrinth, the exit will only be revealed to you after you confront your greatest fear head on.

Magic Carpet Ride: If you decided to take a spin on this ride, the magic carpet will show you and whoever you’re with where you want to go most in the world.

Bobbing for Apples: Bobbing for apples are usually fairly self explanatory, but these apples just so happen to be straight out a fairytale. There are eight different kinds to choose from (Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, Dopey, Doc, and Snow White) and the second you take a bite, you will be overcome with the emotion that they’re named after. Ex. If you pick Sneezy, you won’t be able to stop sneezing. If you pick Doc, you will be overcome with confidence and courage. If you pick Snow White, however, you will drop to the ground and appear lifeless for up to 4 hours or until someone you love (platonically or romantically) bestows you with a kiss.

Crystal Ball: If you look into this crystal ball, you won’t just have your fortune read, you will be able to to have conversation through the glass with an image of your future or past self.  Note- for skin walkers, instead of having a conversation with a version of them from the past, they will actual be able to converse with their other personas.

Mundane Show: A freak show in reverse. Come take a look at the scariest creatures imaginable- simple every day humans! From couch potatoes to Jim from Accounting, witness the mundane at their most disturbingly boring.

Sand Art with a Twist: With each sand art creation you make, you will be prompted to complete a dare. If you chose to accept it, you have until all the sand in your hourglass creation reaches the other side to complete your challenge. If you chicken out or don’t make it in time, you will become magically trapped inside your own sand art piece, until someone else preforms the dare that you were unable to do.

Ring Toss: Try your luck at tossing a ring onto a bottle, only these bottles are levitating and prefer not to stick around in one place for too long.

BabbleFish: Like the ring toss, the goal is to get the ball in the empty fishbowl so you can take home a goldfish or Nemo of your own. Only with this game, your prize can speak and these multilingual babble fish will be sure to be smack talking you throughout your whole turn.

Cotton Candy Booth: Who doesn’t love a good sugary treat at a fair? Take a bite out of this cotton candy, however, and your mouth will instantly be filled with the taste of your favorite meal/desert.

Also!! For anyone who follows me who might be looking into getting a fish (specifically Betta's), all of the equipment that I got ended up being around $170 (this includes the tank), I ended up getting a 5 gallon tank that I'll be upgrading eventually to a 10 gallon. I got a tank set which came with the tank, the water filter, a net, a thermometer, and a water tester (this was about $40 for the set, a decent deal if you ask me). I also got a specific betta tank heater to keep temperature regulated. I got water conditioner and betta pellets (I didn't get live food which I plan on getting next time I get to a pet store so I can diversify his diet a lil bit). I got him a leaf hammock and a floating log for enrichment, and I got him this coral reef decoration he can swim in and out of and chill out in (I wasn't trying to replicate natural environment), I also got this really cute seahorse digital thermometer that vibes in the tank so I can quickly monitor temperature changes!!!! Oh and I got these pretty blue pebbles I'm glad I picked over the green ones I was looking at, I'll post pictures of it later!!

VC people, could ya help me?

So.... I guess this is a very interesting crowd to ask, but I need some guidance.

This summer I'm working and working means money. Yay! This money is going to be aimed towards my turtle because for a long time it hadn't been able too. Here is a list of things I plan on getting in order, does this sound about right?

Upgrade 40 (gal) ~> 80 gal+ tank (I'm trying to follow the "1 inch is 10 gallons" rule here)

Basking area (rock? Plastic platform? Idk he's big and I don't want him getting hurt)

Diet change

Uv lamp

Water heater

Water testers

Something to help with the alge growing on his shell (it's only a little but it still worries me)

Larger rocks

A visit to the appropriate vet

(no guarantee I will get these)

Mini fish tank (feeders)

.... I also don't know what Sex "he" is, believe it or not. I've had Lloyd sense I was young and it didn't really occur to me that I probably need to have that done at some point (and it's probably simple but I've looked up the vents/sex characteristics of different yellow bellies and I can't tell the what he is to save my life... and I'm an artist, I notice things in the weirdest forms that other people look over) but that will come along with the vet visit I suppose.

Anyway- any advise for better care is ALWAYS welcome! I'm just trying to be a good owner

Butterfly Soup Asks #18

I’ll be spending the week of Thanksgiving in Taiwan w/ relatives, so I tried to answer as many as I could ^^; It’s my first time there in around 10 years so I’m really excited! I would do the rest on the plane but I don’t think I’ll have wi-fi...

Highlights of this batch: The squad’s Halloween, pets, and Ester info

Yup! The others finally convinced Noelle to go trick-or-treating for the first time

Diya and Min matched, Diya was Red Riding Hood and Min was the Big Bad Wolf. Min got to wear a wolf mask that went over her head

Noelle: But that doesn’t make sense as a couple’s costume. The wolf wants to eat Red Riding Hood

Akarsha: :^) 

Akarsha went as Guy Fieri

Noelle is boring so she was a doctor. She basically looks the same as normal except wearing a lab coat

While trick or treating, Min started complaining partway through that she was thirsty and drank sprinkler water even though Noelle repeatedly told her not to. She immediately spat it out and went “YUCK!! TASTES BAD” apparently it tastes like mud

A few times, Akarsha ran ahead of the gang and jumped out at them from behind bushes. Noelle screams, Diya jumps back, and Min reacts like this 

Min dared Akarsha to lick a mailbox and she did 

One house’s decorations were too good and Diya got scared

Noelle didn’t want most of her candy so Diya got it 

Diya doesn’t have a dog yet in high school -- she’s always begged for one but her parents knew they’d be too busy to handle it. So their house has a fish tank with guppies

Akarsha had a pet snail in elementary school but accidentally killed it when she tried to wash it with shampoo. She still mourns it. The way she talks about it made Noelle believe for a long time that Akarsha had a deceased sibling or other close family member and she got mad when she found out it was a snail

Hayden’s had a dog since elementary school, much to Diya’s delight and jealousy

Yuki has a hamster

Liz has 2 cats. They’re siblings, one of them has a crooked tail  

Chryssa doesn’t exactly have pets, but her family runs a wildlife rescue/rehabilitation center. They mostly pick up birds but also get other critters like possums and skunks. They even have a hawk there

Ester is just as much a weeb as Sakura and Yuki, but tries to hide it because she worries about how other people see her and wants to be perceived as normal. Whenever they talk about anime she acts like she’s too cool for them but is actually really interested.  She set all the anime and vocaloid songs on her iPod to Skip on shuffle so that if someone else happens to listen to it, they won’t hear any. 

She has friends but isn’t anyone’s Best friend -- they all have someone they like more than her and she thinks about this a lot 

knowing she wouldn’t wear it, I never bothered to design one for her haha

I imagine that she’d want a dark colored one, and only wear one strap bc she thinks it looks cooler like that

Yes, I really want Butterfly Soup 2 and my other future games to have their own soundtracks of music written for them! Feel free to send me examples of your work and rates! Once I properly start development for them I’ll probably make an open call for musicians too ^^

During the story Min doesn’t know about alternative pronouns like they/ze/ey yet, so she currently only uses she/her. In the future, she still mostly uses she/her but will also be fine with they/them

It’s funny because there’s only 2 reactions to Min’s height, with almost no in between:

This is a common enough sentiment that I really want to make it happen. I’ve found decent places that make custom hoodies for Diya’s jacket, but I still have yet to find a reasonably priced option for custom bomber/letterman jackets. If anyone has places they recommend please let me know!

In high school I wanted to be an artist but my parents didn’t approve of it, so I didn’t really know what I wanted to do yet. UC Berkeley is considered the best UC to a lot of Asian parents, so it was just naturally somewhere I wanted to get into. 

It wasn’t until I actually got into USC that I found out game design majors even existed. It was insanely lucky that I happened to go to a college that had such a well known game design program

I’ve said a bit about this on twitter before, but that part of Min’s story was inspired by things my friends and I experienced growing up. Most stories about fictional bad parents come in 2 flavors:

The parents see the error of their ways in the end and aim to be better 

The kid escapes from the parents and lives happily ever after

But in reality, it’s often not that simple. Sometimes your parents never change and there’s no easy way out, that’s just how it is and you have to live with it. So I wanted to show characters who have to bear with it, and at the end of the story are still bearing with it, but are able to find happiness despite it. I wanted people like that to know they aren’t alone in never getting a storybook resolution to what they went through and it’s ok

It is a difficult subject to handle, and it was a challenge figuring out how to realistically show Min going through this without being gratuitous about her suffering. A lot of people like my beta testers were happy seeing a character having the same arguments with her parents as they did, but everyone reacts to things differently and I hope that the trigger warnings prevent too many people from being blindsided by it

Dip Sticks Suck!

So, I guess I continue in a fairly chronological order. Now I knew that the tap water, even treated with the chemicals, wouldn’t be immediately habitable for my little fish given I didn’t have a cycle set up, however I made sure to keep a close eye on the water levels. I had those little dip stick water testers from the pet store that tells you basically all the info relevant to the situation and having taken a number of chemistry courses, I came to rely on those as being accurate.

After the first few days, the little square for ammonia was constantly showing zero. I felt great! I had lucked out I figured, my tank was cycling well and my fish wasn’t going to get sick.

Well, the opportunity came about to pick up a liquid kit for testing water levels, and given I knew that the dip sticks could be a little off, I bought one, figuring it would last longer in the long run anyway.

So I get home and the first thing I do is test the levels and as in waiting for the chemicals to react I test with the dipstick. Once again it indicates everything is at zero. Five minutes pass and I look at the water tests.

The ammonia test tube was green.

Not dark green (that comes later) but enough to indicate a 0.5 reading of ammonia.

Oh, you can bet I was livid. I hadn’t been doing daily water changes or anything because, well, according to the dip sticks I didn’t need to! And now I find that my beautiful little fish was swimming in toxic water this whole time and I was doing NOTHING. I did another dip stick test, making sure I followed the instructions to the bleeding letter, and still, not a damn thing! So I looked online to see what I could do-should I add tons of ammonia lock? Full changeover? Was there anything I COULD do? And after a few minutes did water changes, treating the water as normal. (New betta owners, this is gonna be a running theme. Literally if anything goes wrong you do a partial water change). And my god, did I become anal about checking the levels and doing water changes.

I still have the dipsticks. Dunno why since I can’t actually trust them, at least not as far as ammonia is concerned. But I swear by the liquid master test kit. So any new betta owners, I urge you to but the liquid test kit. It’s more expensive by far, but it does last a good amount of time (I test my water almost daily if there’s anything weird going on and multiple times a day was the norm after I first got it and I still have the original kit I bought) and it’s accurate, unlike the dipsticks. Even if your local pet store doesn’t sell them (mine doesn’t which is why the dipsticks) Amazon sells them at a decent price.

So there’s my first crisis story. I wish I could say that was the only one, but I wouldn’t have bothered making a blog or whatever if that were the case. See y'all next time!
