Mackerel Udon I grew up eating tinned mackerel. When I was younger I would often indulge in my own concoction of mackerel fillets straight out of the can on hot buttered toast. (It’s very good - as far as I can remember). I haven’t had tinned mackerel in a long time so was happy to see @ixta.belfrage showcasing the humble shelf staple in this absolutely delectable udon dish. This is the first dish I tried from #mezclacookbook - the flavours are incredible, big and bold, just as you would expect from @ixta.belfrage ! Can’t wait to work my way through #mezcla ! Do you have Mezcla? If so what have you been making? Would love to hear below! 👇 🧡 #ixtabelfrage #mezclacookbook #flavour #udon #mackerel #noodles #aromatics #delicious #flavourbomb #midweekmeals #tinnedmackerel #fish #pantryraid #jackiecooksfood #ixtalicious #ottolenghiflavour #chef #cookbook #newcookbook https://www.instagram.com/p/ChZ4X_6jrTQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Thank you for tagging me, @goyurim 💖
Last song: Onde Usirante from Snehaloka
Currently watching: It's anime-only brainrot here as of now. Dungeon Meshi, Hunter x Hunter, Spy x Family (a rewatch), Asobi Asobase. However, since this is a drama blog, let me mention that I did start watching The Matchmakers, finished two episodes and inexplicably stopped. Praying to higher powers to bring my drama mojo back.
Currently reading: The Selected Poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke, Dissolution by CJ Sansom, Miss Read's Fairacre series, The Three-Body Problem by Lu Cixin, Sha Po Lang by Priest, Death on Gokumon Island by Seishi Yokomizo. I like reading multiple books at one time lmao, so that I can shift between them depending on my mood.
Spicy/sweet/savoury/sour: I like all these flavours but Savoury and Spicy are it for me. I greatly enjoy foods that are savoury and spicy. Always up for a flavourbomb party in my mouth.
Relationship status: Single and obsessed with my cat. So glad she's obsessed with me too. 💖
Current obsession: Dungeon Meshi, Crochet, Orchids, Fragrances
Favourite colour: PINK!!!!
Favourite animal: Obligatory cat mention, but also dogs. In general though, I like animals, with the exception of angry hornets and mosquitos.
Tagging: if you wanna do this, please consider yourself tagged 💖

Some random thoughts on Pathfinder 2e and D&D 5e, since I’ve been poking around them both. More vibes than anything concrete here.
If we’re talking a balance of flavour vs mechanics, PF2e feels like the flavour is added over top of the mechanics, while 5e feels like the mechanics are put in to support the flavour. Particularly with the subclass system in 5e, it feels more thematic. Your class is your base mechanics bundle, and your subclass is the flavourbomb you build around it. So you can have a mechanical chassis and then take it in a range of flavour directions. PF2e feels much more tightly mechanical, and your class much more decisive and bounded in terms of flavour.
A couple of things I really miss in PF2e, coming from 5e, are radiant damage and blindsight. Anyone who’s poked around my 5e homebrew, I just really like the thematic resonance of light vs dark, and radiant damage just fills my soul. Crown of Stars is my favourite spell. A significant chunk of my homebrew is starlit classes or radiant items. I just like light damage as a thematic element.
And blindsight is niche, but it allows an interaction with the world in complete darkness. PF2e’s perception system, while, to be fair, feeling significantly more functional, also feels extremely sight-based. Which is weird, because PF2e actually does have more options for other senses, with imprecise scent being a character option that has mechanical impact. But sight is the only precise scent a player can get. If you don’t have sight, you better have AOE or you’re in trouble. Blindsight in 5e isn’t exactly common, but it’s an option. And, well, see my homebrew darkness cleric. I like options for navigating competently while blind.
On a slightly similar note, at least to the radiant damage, I don’t like the alignment damage system in PF2e, you know, good, evil, chaotic, lawful damage. I do get the concept, entities meeting structures/spells/attacks that are inimical to their natures, but … a large chunk of 2e mechanics seem to be based around alignment, and I’m not sure I like that being such a hardcoded element? I feel like you could use mental damage to replace alignment damage, to keep that feeling of ‘this is repugnant to my nature’. When it comes to ‘holy burns evil’, I do understand that 5e’s radiant damage isn’t necessarily a more elegant solution. I just, you know, like it more, for the above reasons. But mental/emotional (PF2e)/psychic (5e) damage feels like a good solution.
One thing I do much prefer is PF2e’s ancestry system, and the character-progression-via-feats structure. It loosens up a lot of build options, and it lets you keep making decisions based on your ancestry and your background well into the game. Also, some of the ancestries are just exciting.
PF2e also seems to feel significantly freer to get gnarly and horrifying with their mechanics, which I do appreciate. I love me some horror vibes.
In terms of lore, I do like Golarion more than the Forgotten Realms. Which is, admittedly, not that hard. Heh. There are elements I like from TFR, but on the whole, at least as it’s been presented in 5e, it’s … fairly blah? Golarion’s deep time and much more interactive world map is fun. How much of this is the excitement of the new probably remains to be seen, mind you. Also, not going to lie, Pharasma weirds me out a little bit, the whole …
PF2e is a very lawful, mechanical sort of universe, lore, mechanics and system. Not rigidly so, but noticeably compared to 5e’s more freeform sort of vibe. There is an anarchic bit of me that does sort of kneejerk side-eye it. Heh.
Anyway. Like I said. Some random impressions on the two systems/settings, starting from 5e, based mostly on vibes.

If I take my husband out to a ‘small plates’ restaurant for dinner there’s a good chance we’re stopping for a burger on the way home. “It’s not a meal!!!”. 🙄 Me? I could easily survive entirely on appetizers and be in food heaven everyday. *Castelvetrano Tapenade with Pepperoncini and Sundried Tomatoes* Put this in front of me with a pile of crostini (and maybe a little wine 😉) and I’m calling it dinner. • Recipe-ish: • In a food processor combine 1 minced clove garlic, 2 Tbsp sundried tomatoes, 1 Tbsp capers, 4 pickled pepperoncini peppers, 1 small handful parsley, pinch oregano, pinch red pepper flakes, 2 tsp red wine vinegar, 1/4 cup olive oil & S&P. Combine until we’ll mixed but still chunky. . . . . . . #tapenade #appetizersfordinner #appetizers #castelvetrano #snacking #ilovetocook #homemadefood #frommykitchen #f52community #tasty #tastyfood #tastyrecipes #flavourbomb #eatathome #cleaneatingrecipes #realfooding #foodiefeature #easyrecipes #foodinspo #whatieat #damnthatsdelish #olives #healthyrecipes #healthylifestyle #homecookingisthebest #instafoodie #recipeideas #recipeoftheday #cookingram (at Osoyoos, British Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCd1X-ZlT05/?igshid=1u40129y9zikt
