In the first years of this young century, long before I had come out as trans to anyone, I had a sad comic starring my self-insert and my long-suffering roommate. It always had weird stuff.

This is one I never finished.

Until now! Image description: Panel 1: We have our beleaguered everyman, Mark W sitting on a couch, reading a book (Pattern Recognition, but there's no real way to tell in the comic). He is a fit white guy, short, dark brown hair and goatee. He is wearing a Dream Theater t-shirt and jeans. Above him stands our protagonist, Atticus Flint. He is a thin white guy, chin-length light brown hair. He is wearing overalls and a Mazinger Z t-shirt. He is holding a demolished bit of cardboard packaging, and a bracelet of some sort. He says "Hey! My Battle of the Planets wristband came! I finally get to finish my 'Mark" cosplay!"

Panel 2: We see Atticus affixing the wristband to his right wrist. He continues, "Just strap it on and say the magic word!"

Panel 3: Atticus holds his fist in front of his face, and utters the immortal command: "Transmute!" The wrist band flares with light and the Gatchaman symbol appears on the wristband!

Panel 4: We see a member of G-Force in silhouette, their winged cape extended in a nebula of blues and purples! GATCHAMAN appears over their head in VERY poorly rendered Japanese, with Jun the Swan running underneath.

Panel 5: Atticus stands proudly in a Princess costume, hands extended happily! The outfit is a pink minidress, white thigh-high boots, a white cape and opera gloves, and a helmet vaguely reminiscent of a swan's head! "TA-DA!", he says!

Panel 6: Atticus's smile is replaced by bemusement. He lowers his arms, saying, "Or... huh."

Panel 7: Atticus looks down on his very Princess-looking form, holding one arm up to sweep the cape away. "I must've accidentally ordered the wrong one!" he says. Poor Mark W is seen leaving the room in disgust, which is his go-to move. "Yeah," he says, word balloon dripping in sarcasm, "Accidentally" (that bit is in italics, the international currency of cynicism) "Whatever helps you sleep at night, Princess." he finishes, holding up a hand, the very one so often requested that we talk to.

You can see how this is all very funny.

the second half of hibiki..it makes me really bummed out bc i absolutely adored the first half but it became a real drag to watch. kyousuke's my funny little guy but otherwise i think i'd actually just be happy to consider the season Done at episode 29. also i'm rewriting ooo 10th to have a satisfying ending that actually makes sense and also i Deserve a better bravesnipe movie just like. in General

Eddie’s most memorable scene in the movie is his transformation into Venom. As Peter gets rid of the symbiote while in a belltower, the alien falls and lands on Eddie, quickly overtaking him. A killer soundtrack and fittingly gloomy atmosphere accompany the transformation. And even if Eddie ended up being an underwhelming villain, his conversion into Venom is definitely memorable.

9 Flint’s Confession

Every fan knows that Spider-Man 3 has way too many villains. None have enough room to shine or prove themselves as worthy heirs to Goblin and Ock’s legacies, but they still get some redeeming moments. In Sandman’s case, it’s his final monologue to Peter, where he confesses his guilt about the part he played in Uncle Ben’s death.

Enhanced by Thomas Haden Church’s performance, the scene succeeds in providing some much-needed closure for Peter. Sandman is less a villain and more a tragic figure of circumstance, and his confession to Peter confirms it.

8 Goblin’s First Flight

Willem Dafoe redefined what it means to be a comic book villain. His take on the Green Goblin is the perfect mix of over-the-top and seriousness, adding a sense of gravitas that overcomes the more cartoonish aspects of the role.

The character has plenty of memorable moments in the first Spider-Man movie. However, his initial confrontation against Spider-Man during the World Unity Fair will go down in cinematic history as one of the best action scenes of all time. It is fast-paced and thrilling, wasting not a single moment of its four-minute length. The Goblin gives an impressive display of his powers, proving that he will always be Spider-Man’s best villain.

7 Otto Octavius’s Sacrifice

Sam Raimi’s first two Spider-Man films succeeded because of how much they fleshed out the villains. 6 J. Jonah Jameson Saves Peter Parker

J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson is the very definition of spot-on casting. The actor took an already well-known character and translated him into the screen seamlessly and faithfully. Throughout his tenure in the trilogy, he gets plenty of comical moments, but his most memorable is his protection of Peter Parker.

When the Green Goblin blasts into the Bugle’s offices, he threatens Jameson and asks for the name of the photographer who takes Spider-Man’s pictures. Jameson refuses to tell on Peter, telling the Goblin the reporter sends his stuff through the mail. The scene shows a new and unexpected side to JJ, a glance at the empathy he works so hard to hide.

5 Uncle Ben’s Lesson

Uncle Ben’s death is one of the defining moments in Peter Parker’s storyline. It’s the first of many (many) tragedies to happen to the character, inspiring him to become a hero in the first place. Sam Raimi provides enough room for Uncle Ben’s character to develop before arriving at the inevitable conclusion.

Cliff Robertson’s heartfelt monologue summarises the essence of Spider-Man. “With great power comes great responsibility” has become one of the most enduring phrases in pop culture, adding a more profound layer to Raimi’s trilogy. And while Uncle Ben has little screentime, his presence remains throughout the entire trilogy, thanks in large part to his now-immortal words.

4 Aunt May’s Advice

Rosemary Harris remains the most compelling and memorable cinematic Aunt May. She imbued the role with plenty of warmth and empathy, avoiding the one-dimensional approach of subsequent movies. Harris’ Aunt May wasn’t just another peripheral character; on the contrary, she was Peter’s anchor, a constant source of inspiration for both the boy and the hero.

Her role as Peter’s guide is blatantly clear during her monologue in Spider-Man 2. While she packs her things to move out from her house, she talks to Peter about the nature and importance of heroism. Alas, Harry was never his father, and he proves it at the last moment.

2 Mary Jane’s Upside-Down Kiss

For all its strengths, the Raimi trilogy has one undeniable flaw, and that’s its treatment of Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker’s main love interest in the comics and most movies. The character barely received any development beyond her damsel in distress role. Still, Mary Jane is a crucial figure in superhero movies; she defined the “superhero girlfriend” role for better and worse.

Out of all her moments in the trilogy, Mary Jane’s most memorable is her upside-down kiss in the rain with Spider-Man. It’s not only one of the most iconic scenes in modern cinema, but a perfect summary of MJ and Peter’s relationship. The setup may seem a tad outdated under a 2021 eye, but Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire’s chemistry is so electric that fans can let go of the more dubious elements of the scene and enjoy the romantic aspect.

1 Spider-Man Stops A Train

Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man remains as beloved now as he was back then. His take on Peter Parker gained new life thanks to the internet; indeed, Maguire’s Spidey is the king of memes, from Bully Maguire to the now-iconic “I missed the part where that’s my problem.”

However, this Spider-Man remains a blueprint for cinematic superheroes, thanks to his many heroic moments on screen. None is more memorable or inspiring than his efforts to stop a speeding train in Spider-Man 2. this is mostly a copy paste of the big list i dumped in a couple servers earlier today but with some more elaboration for stuff i talked about or thought of afterwards. i’m gonna go feral now

 -he's pretty much always down with he/they pronouns but occasionally sways towards she/her, i’m thinkin that it’s probably something that changes from one day to another. usually lucas vibes with masculine or androgynous; days where they’re completely in the gal zone are rare but do happen from time to time

-claus nicknames female aligned lucas 'lucy' and she fucking LOVES it. in general lucas doesn't have any issues or dysphoria attached to their name and can't imagine being called anything else, but the nickname sticks

-flint has absolutely no experience in this area because he's a boomer but he tries really hard to be supportive. he proudly introduces his ‘they them son’ to all his friends and that isn’t exactly correct but lucas still feels very appreciated

-lucas and kumatora are enby solidarity and fucking destroy transphobes

-kuma also helps him to find a slightly more androgynous style and the mag/psy upbringing fucking Jumps Out. she goes absolutely apeshit over creating a fashion style to confuse the gender binary out of existence and lends lucas a whole bunch of her old stuff so for a while he looks like an amateur kumatora cosplay every time they’re in the mood to wear a dress

-lucas tries to grow his hair longer because it better suits whatever presentation they're in the mood for but instead of getting longer it just gets bigger. somehow he manages to eventually scrape it into a ponytail anyway. it’s very cute.

-because i can and will die for claus with long hair he teaches lucas how to take care of it and keep it neat. initially lucas Does Not Trust Like That because this is the same claus who used to have spiders falling out of his hair on the regular for how rarely he let anyone even touch it but it turns out that claus is really good at it so a lot of times he’ll brush lucas’ hair for a while when one or both of them need to destress for a bit

-if you deliberately misgender lucas claus just fucking kills you instantly. get pk thundered. respect his sib or lose your ribs

i’ve run out of this train of thought but please feel free to yeet me more asks to elaborate on a point or talk about something i didn’t cover! i am vibing Heavily with this headcanon at the moment so my head is very full of thoughts but i have adhd and autism that won’t let me find them or translate them into actual words so you have to knock them out of me like you’re getting wood from a tree in animal crossing

Toby Stephens at Comic Con Stuttgart / Saturday

So as I’m recounting most of what he said for @alightabovethearbys I guess I can just do copy and paste for the the tumblr fraction as well.

I asked him what scene with Luke he liked best: He said the last one on Skelleton Island. He liked the journey from (I quote here) a kinda married couple, needing each other, to being partners and friends and then having it all betrayed in the end. But also having all the truth and honesty shown, in this one moment. Also, to forsee how Silver ends (which we see in TI) and being right about it.

One Person asked when he knew about Flint’s and Thomas’ relationship: He said he knew Flint's backstory from the beginning. He had a chat beforehand with the producers and they told him. He mentioned how his twitter exploded and how people called him out on destroying Flint’s character but also on coming back to Flint, because Flint’s such a good character. He loved that he could change at least a few people’s minds and that this is what the creators had in mind all along. That they wanted this big revelation and that they did it perfectly. I personally loved how you could see how proud he was of being a character with meaning and not a bit ashamed or anything.

Someone asked what job he would have had if he had lived in the BS times: He answered that he def. would not have been a pirate, because that was dangerous stuff and that you didn’t live long. He also mentioned that a lot of people had no choice and rather had been pirates that being gangpressed onto ships. He said he had read pirates died early because their teeth rotted and that then they couldn’t eat the hard biscuit and dried meat anymore. So he would have hoped to inherit some money and just live a quiet life.

Another question was what is different about filming for Starz and Netflix, assuming Starz having less money: He talked a lot about the set and how filming in South Africa helped because there you could do an enormous set with little budget. How they spent the money on the ships and making it look realistic. How the ships were actually bigger than normal ships had been back then to make them look more enormous and how in comparison on Netflix money rather goes into the space suits and the CGI (CGI CI? This digital making stuff. I don’t know the term).

He talked a little about Oslo and the short film “In Vitro” he directed.

Someone also asked him about his fav. scene with Zach and his first answer was that he isn’t so sure about his fav. but the one he liked least was the one he was fighting with Zach, because Zach apparently is very heavy and he had to lift him and that was physically very exhausting.

Someone asked if he had other characters than mentioned in the series he relayed to while filming and he said Clint Eastwood, but also that after a while Flint became his own character.

I’m forgetting the half ... whatever this is I think the most BS related he said on Saturday. I won’t be there tomorrow but maybe someone else will help out then.

There also was a fantastic Anne Bonney cosplay! (Really really fantastic and the only BS cosplay I saw). I have a photo of her, but not fond of just posting it here. If she ever sees it and gives permission I may post it, or maybe she has way better photos than me anyway.

Special note that almost the entire clan is buried there in tombs below and they're waiting for the computer to do something and it's not yet it says it's not time yet

This is a huge huge genre there's so many people into this it's not even funny and Hera started pumping out the uniforms and she has a bunch of them for sale at supercon in I'm sorry in the Miami and he was flub-dubbing there saying it for me and she made a whole bunch of cosplay too for the entire genre of both sides the cosplay is suitable to wear that's really uniforms and some people actually do end up doing that what you're seeing is cosplay ends up on the real ships which mostly are 20 miles plus these are giant ships and they're already built and the common Empire ship is big enough to retrieve Black ships and stone ships from the large planets because it can land there and yes I can land in the ocean or some soft land it pushes it out and lands like a like a bowl on the sand there's a huge number of people interested in is a giant giant ship and it's Hera's side of the family. She helped design it and the fortifications and as you can see she's all about guns and defenses Shields and ships and power really she's a powerful woman and he knows it and she's going to watch out because she already told him and showed him she knows how to slap fight like the best of them so don't smack into her when she's Prego and it was for the current day analogy and he figured it out a little

Edit: There’s a theory about those blogs being troll blogs from Russia, trying to seperate America even more by posting black lives matter themed posts ... not sure what to believe anymore, but my post will remain as it was in the first place ... this is some shady business...

So this morning I also got a mail from Tumblr, saying they found Russian Propaganda blogs, which have now been deleted. But they left the reblog-links so I could think about my perspective on society, life etc., since I have liked or reblogged some of them. WTF? O.o

I instantly felt guilty as if I’d reblogged an anti-human rights post O.o

So I tried to find the names in my reblogs and found bellaxiao ... who posted a video about a guy who is able to sing a Whitney Houston song, how fucked up the the treatment of the protesters of the North Dakota pipeline is, about the guy who filmed Erik Garners death going to prison, ... so very “propagandy” stuff obviously ... I’m even more confused than before!

And my search went on. I also found bellygangstaboo in my reblogs, who also posted blacklivesmatter-posts!

You're welcome! I've seen quite a few artists do it too, a recent example would be @jessicapalumboart https://jessicapalumboart.tumblr.com/post/183729906241/its-been-a-long-time-without-posting-on-here-im but there is much more by Black Sails Fanartists. It's tricky to paint because it actually is little more than a few green sprinkles, there is still some blue in the left eye too. I'm cosplaying Flint and because I'm a perfectionist nerd with stuff like this I searched forever and now use two different lenses to get at least a bit of the effect. 😉

More of an answer than an ask really 😉: No, you’re not making it up, Toby Stephens’ eyes are slightly heterochromatic. Not as much as in my painting, I like to do it a little more than it really is, as did the Black Sails preproduction in some scenes I think, but his left eye leans a bit more to green than his right, leading to constant confusion what his eye color is. Oceanic might be the best answer to that. And yes, I have spent far too much time studying that matter. 🤪

Eek your message totally made my day! I think heterochromia is so beautiful  (and so is Toby Stephens, obviously) so when I first noticed that slight difference in colour it blew my mind! But I never saw anyone mentioning it so seeing your amazing art made me really happy :)

Just as the busy San Diego Comic-Con show floors are about to open, Hasbro and Lionsgate have revealed a colorful and vibrant new movie poster for ‘My Little Pony: The Movie’ which will be galloping into theaters on October 6th! See below. The poster will be debuting exclusively at SDCC 2017 at Hasbro’s Booth, #3213.

MY LITTLE PONY The MY LITTLE PONY brand is returning to Comic-Con this year with extra special activities for everypony as Hasbro anticipates the exciting premiere of MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE, which will be released by Lionsgate on October 6th. Making her premiere at the Hasbro booth will be a dazzling eight-foot tall statue of Songbird Serenade; fans can get up close to the new character, voiced by singer-songwriter Sia in MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE. Fans can also dive into Seaquestria with a one-of-a-kind photo opportunity or get “Ponified” at the Hasbro booth at special “Ponification Stations” where make-up artists will apply Cutie Marks and “ponified” hair and nails for fans of all ages.

The MY LITTLE PONY panel on Friday at 10:30 a.m. will feature the cast and creatives behind MY LITTLE PONY: THE MOVIE and will include a sneak peek at the upcoming film followed by a Q&A. Word around Equestria is that there may be a surprise guest! After the panel, fans can meet the MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC voice talent for an autograph signing in the Hasbro booth.

Other exciting MY LITTLE PONY brand booth activities include giveaways each day, nail art demos featuring China Glaze’s new MY LITTLE PONY nail polish collection, autograph signings with voice talent, Little Brown authors and Enjoi Skateboarding artists, a live drawing session with IDW artists, and more.

And here is Sia’s character, Songbird Serenade.  I have to be honest and say I have no clue what I’m looking at, beyond someone’s OC and obviously a character from the movie.  Maybe she’s been in the show, but I literally stopped watching at the 100th episode so I really do not have a clue what is going on anymore.  Good thing I’m the “Editor in Chief” of the oldest FiM media sites, the rest will follow by example.  Honestly though the movie looks at least fun, and we probably would have had some fun reporting about it around here at ye old Derpy News, back when there was actual people here, and not a virtual representation of Flint, Michigan (don’t drink the water).

That’s pretty much it for now, I’m sure with the SDCC and upcoming movie, that PR firm will toss some more kindling into the mailbag.  Oh yeah, there is also HASCON, which we were told you can use the promo code FANMILY to get $20 off adult tickets and $10 off children tickets until July 23rd.  They also invited us to be a part of the press, or at least attempt to register.  To the Derpymobile!
