Adding a better Font
I found an ancient Roman-looking font called Dominican on Dafont, and applied it to all my widgets. I think it definitely looks better.

Diversions #8: Icy gin film
It has been a long, cold, mostly icy winter. I’m not sure if age makes this feeling more acute, but the data seem to show that this winter has been colder than average. I can’t remember the last time I pined for spring this badly.
But, just yesterday, as temperatures finally hit 50ºF, the garlic began pushing through the still hard frozen earth. Woohoo!
A quick update on our home addition; it is done! My mother-in-law is moved in. She’s comfy and cozy and we are really happy with how the entire project turned out. On time and on budget. Unheard of! I’ll share a photo in an upcoming Diversions when the muddy soggy frozen mess of our backyard has been fixed up.
Photographically this winter has also frozen my creative side. I’m at peace with it. Life doesn’t always allow us to work on our art. And if it comes, it comes.
Due to the construction the darkroom was a mess. Construction dust, disarray, and neglect. But I’ve been slowly able to steal some time to get it back into working order. I recently developed some color film, which led me to question whether or not I want to continue doing so, and was able to get that area cleaned up. Next I’ll spend some time getting the printing area clean and organized.

35mm film hanging to dry in an old dusty basement corner
We have a lot to do outdoors this year in our yard. In fact, since the addition construction tore up our yard so badly, we’re going to invest both time and money in getting it to our liking this year. So I may not be able to revisit the layout of the darkroom until next year. But I still have plans of making a capable darkroom. I have nearly everything I need to do so.
To break up the long, cold winter we took a break at a resort in the Dominican Republic on Hispaniola for about 8 days. It was, as resorts go, very relaxing. We had a great villa to stay in, a pool to float in, some mediocre cocktails to enjoy. I finished re-reading Dune. I’m debating continuing the series which I hadn’t done in the past. Should I?
Speaking of cocktails. I’ve been really enjoying gin lately. It is so interesting to me how my tastes have changed over the years when it comes to spirits. I think I’ve ridden the entire spectrum. Scotches to whiskeys, vodkas to mezcals. It is an expensive hobby, and I totally understand why some abstain, but I really enjoy the stories, the people, the places that are involved in some of my favorites. Lately I’ve been enjoying Japanese spirits – perhaps because I want to travel there so badly.
I have a bunch of links to share:
George Tice: Seeing Beyond The Moment – Tice recently passed away and I hadn’t been very familiar with his work. This documentary is a great introduction.
The making of Longquan celadon – via Dan Cederholm.
LocalSend – Cross platform AirDrop substitute.
Gina Trapani’s Life In Weeks – I have no desire to spend the time to make one of these, but they are very cool.
The Hardest Working Font in Manhattan – Marcin Wichary doing Marcin Wichary things.
The Uncomfortable – “a collection of deliberately inconvenient everyday objects by Athens-based architect Katerina Kamprani”.
Ravens – A trailer for an upcoming film about photographer Masahisa Fukase.
Nick Carver Frames from Andalucia – A short video profile of Nick Carver by Jaime Dezcallar. Jaime’s series of videos have less than a few dozen views somehow. See also Taylor Pendleton, Luke Stackpoole, and Mike Chudley.

Possible Fonts
StarBorn - Not using for this project but might use for a separate one.
Dalek, Dominican Small Caps, Disney Heroic, Nordic Chance, Metrolox and Mount Olympus - I'm thinking of using one or two of these for my poster. I might use Metrolox for my cyberpunk au story for Ozul though. (Cyberpunk AU was a recent idea I had to fill in the time, whilst I make the scripts for TRV. Mainly focusing on Ozul though).

People in Las 21 Divisiones
Excerpt from: The 21 Divisions Mysteries & Magic of Dominican Voodoo by Papa Hector Salva 21 Divisions Espiritismo Brujo. Page 8-10. Spanish is marked with blue font. This is all quotes except the headers; not my writing.
🔸Humanity🔸
Everyone is born with a Guardian Misterio. This Misterio is assigned to you by God , like your guardian angel , and is meant to guide, protect, and help you. Likewise each individual is born with a certain amount of spiritual power (fuerza), which varies from person to person. It is this power that determines the degree or level of connection to and awareness of the spiritual world. Some individuals are born with such power and connection that they are able to communicate and have a relationship with the Misterios. The path of the 21 Divisions is initiatory / apprenticeship oriented and has a hierarchical structure. In other words, on the Dominican Voodoo path, one has a spiritual teacher, guide, and parent , who is known as a Madrina / Mama (female) or Padrino / Papa (male). There are levels of initiation and processes of apprenticeship that happen to develop fuerza and connection to it .
🔸Believer / Follower🔸
A believer and follower of the Misterios is known as a devoto, or devotee. This is a person who believes and follows the Misterios, but without the ability to work with the Misterios or have open communication with them. The Misterios protect and bless their devotos, interceding and helping them when there are issues. A devoto, however, will have a brujo, or priest, to go to in order to receive the guidance of the Misterios.
🔸Practitioner / Servant🔸
A practitioner of the 21 Divisions is known as a servidor de Misterio , a servant of the Mystery. Females are known as servidoras. First and foremost, the person is servant to the Greatest Mystery, God, and after God, his Divine Mysteries of Light, the Misterios of the 21 Divisions. Through his connection to the spiritual world and serving the Misterios, the servant comes closer to God and the Lwases, which brings blessings, protection, health, and good luck. Aside from these worldly goals, a practitioner will also be able to develop spiritual gifts, powers, and abilities, attaining greater and greater spiritual progress. Servidores who have the fuerza and illuminated connection are able to work with the Misterios to varying degrees. However, most servidores' powers are limited usually to him or herself and the closest loved ones. Their spirituality and spiritual powers are for their own benefit and to improve their own lives. Such servidores may or may not be initiated. However, initiation develops the servidores' spiritual gifts and abilities, as well as giving them greater connection to their Misterios. Either way, they will always have a Padrino or brujo from whom they receive guidance and help when it comes to their spiritual path.
🔸Priest🔸
A brujo (male) or bruja (female) is a priest of the 21 Divisions. He or she can affect the physical world , their own life, and the lives of others through various offerings, rituals, and ceremonies, which are often called services or servicios. For simplicity's sake, I will use brujo overall in our discussions. He has Misterios Trabajar or Mysteries for Working for others. By working with the para Misterios, a brujo can be a vehicle for Divine healing, help, and guidance to themselves and others. The brujo dedicates himself to the development of his spiritual power and connection with the Misterios. Thus he is able to work and manipulate the power in order to make miracles. Magic is a central element of the practice and can be used to attract luck, love, success, and many of one's goals and aims.
🔸Initiated Priest🔸
An initiated brujo of Dominican Voodoo is known as a Papa Boko. An initiated bruja is a Mama Mambo. They have received the secret rituals and wisdom that have been passed down through the centuries in a sacred lineage from master brujos to students. Not all brujos undergo initiation .
#las 21 divisiones#dominican vudú#dominican voodoo#cultural appreciation#hector salva#The 21 Divisions Mysteries & Magic of Dominican Voodoo#michibooks#quote pile#yes this is literally just all a quote that i broke up with colors and stuff#because its interesting#author is a initiated brujo#im reading and wanted to share

The hunt (part 1)
Christel stood inside the batcave. Yet again. Red hood in front of her.
"are you sure this book can be useful?" Christel asked him. A little unsure. Jason sighed taking his helmet off "we need to take a look Christel" he stated. "If this book doesn't answer our questions . We can always take Delenn's help" he said further.
Christel nodded. Opening the book sitting besides him. The first page read.
"monster in Loch Ness, Horyn. land of spice." the texts were in a red, orange and yellow font. With strange symbols bellow. Jason hummed.
"red stone must be in Scotland" he answered. She looked at him puzzled. "monster in loch ness is a Scotland thing.." Jason explained. Christel nodded and looked at the texts further.
Cass sat next to her and mumbled "Horyn... River... Orange.. Ukraine"
"oh yes! Horyn river in Ukraine!" Christel explained. And smiled at Cass. So the orange crystal was in Ukraine..
"land of spice" Christel mumbled. Both Jason and Christel then yelled at the same time "INDIA!"
"we need to find more pages like these" Jason mumbled. And Christel nodded. Turning some pages. All had strange symbols. Then they came across texts written in green, blue and purple.
"kings called Louis, Republic of Korea...Sphinx"
Christel hummed "Sphinx is found in Egypt... The purple one is in Egypt" she concluded. "kings called Louis... That has to be France." she said further.
"south Korea" Jason and Christel said at the Same time. Christel turned the pages. Finding another page.. This one was burned on the edges but they could read it.
"Canberra" was written in bold pink. Bellow it in faded brown colour "Andean region" was written.
"Andean region....peru" Cass answered. "and Canberra. That's the capital of australia.." Jason said after her.
The pages after that were burned and Christel felt anxious then she saw the next proper page.
"Filipino. Samoan. Santo Domingo" was written upsite down in white, gray and black texts.
"Philippines, Samoa and the dominican republic" robin said from behind them.
Christel took a deep breath... Looks like they got their answers...
Let the hunt began.
