Please watch her episode and subscribe to the CravePhilly’s YouTube channel for all the new videos to come! Link in bio 🎥 Repost from @billy_penn • 🗣 Billy Penn is pleased to present CravePhilly, a video and story series by Hope Cohen about the people who create food, restaurants, and agriculture in the Philadelphia region. 🌱 Christa Barfield is the “100% organically dope” force behind FarmerJawn. A rising voice in Philadelphia’s urban farming scene, her focus lies at the intersection of education, environmental science, and food justice. 🎉 Leaving behind the corporate job, she rededicated her life to the land, and to addressing food insecurity in her community. 🪴 Starting two years ago with a 4-by-6-foot plot, Christa grew a farm, a locally-sourced tea company, a plant boutique, and a CSA (community supported agriculture program). 💪🏾 Last summer she expanded. Initially, FarmerJawn’s CSA provided weekly produce for 10 individuals; now it serves more than 60 member families. In addition, Christa offers free and subsidized memberships for Philadelphians who need them. 🥬🥕🌽🥦🍆 Check out the full story and video: 🔗 in bio! 📸 provided by @farmerjawnphilly @icravephilly #billypenngram #cravephilly #farmerjawnphilly #billypenncravesphilly #foodinphilly #icravephilly #hopecohen #fooddeserts #foodinsecurity @icravephilly @billy_penn (at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) https://www.instagram.com/p/CO1GAdaDWKy/?igshid=18tunxl7mswmu

I am so pleased I got to attend this before COVID-19 shut down all my social/blogging engagements.  It was just a perfect evening of meeting a small group of wonderful new foodies, in a lovely atmosphere, over 5 delectable and creative courses, not to mention appetizers and cocktails. Chef Steve Coupet, @touchef.coupet Haitian-American, but really a New Yorker, is a personal chef with a love of entertaining. He’s been doing these intimate PopUp Dinners in Harlem, and decided the last day of Black History Month would be a good time to host one in Philly.  He found me on Instagram and asked if I’d help spread the word.  And also invited me to join the evening. The event was limited, but open to the public with registrations on Eventbrite. Once registered, guests were told the exact location would be revealed a week prior to the dinner.  When I arrived at the address, I thought a mistake had been made, as it was a residential home on a newly trendy street in Fishtown.  No mistake. Ingeniously, he had rented out an entire townhouse from Airbnb to use to host the dinner.  This way he and his partner Corrina, owner of @harlem.roots (Look for upcoming separate post) had a place to stay in Philly, a nice size kitchen in which to prepare the meal and we the guest, could have cocktails and apps in the living room, while waiting for the dinner to begin – all much under the cost of renting an event space or restaurant...  See Dinner Highlight Video - Tinseltine.com/Foodie #FlavorsoftheBlackDiaspora #privatedinner #visitingchef #phillydining #beforeCovid19 #BlackCuisine #backinthefuture #touchefcoupet #baconjam #bonebroth #wintergreens #braisedbeef #driedokra  #phillyfoodie #foodinPhilly #buzzfeast #blackblogger #foodblogger #phillyeatsgood #fishtown #popupdinner https://www.instagram.com/p/B-f6OrWjzVP/?igshid=1ou7nr6ls4fdm

Here’s some of the food I cooked and enjoyed eating while visiting Philly, and this is only 1/3 of it! I cooked a total of 5 dishes for 5 segments and ate at some amazing local restaurants. Needless to say, I loved everything I ate while visiting! Vegan-Friendly Philly Phooderies I
I've been vegan for three days now but vegetarian for eleven years and I've been noticing an increase in the ease of finding vegan/vegetarian foods- if you know where to look. The following are a few of my favorites but I will be continuously updating this as my dairy-free journey progresses.
Fuel: Fuel is perfect for any occasion- lunch on the go, a sit down meal, a post gym snack- you name it. While they do offer meat and dairy options, they are easy enough to avoid. Their juice bar features green juices (my favorite is The Hulk) but also more basic fruit juices, for the less adventurous. Their location on 12th and Walnut is perfect if you have time to sit down for a meal, but their spin-off "Fuel To Go" on 17th and Arch is great if you're on the run. Menu.
Philly Cupcake: As their desserts are too tempting for even the most self-disciplined vegan to resist, they have a special shelf for dairy-free options. This includes a chocolate Oreo cupcake as well as a mango-vanilla concoction. Their vegan/gluten-free hot chocolate is available in their online store.
Blackbird Pizza: Too many people have told me they would go vegan if they were able to eat pizza. Blackbird makes that possible! Everything they make is vegan as well as kosher, so you can't lose. Their menu speaks for itself.
