Because I am trying to do research about the things I am writing, I have signed up for some football newsletters.
Because I am a nerd, one of the newsletters is about team finances. Only team finances. Literally a breakdown of how different teams performed financially over the course of a season.
From that I have learned that payouts from the Champions league varies on-
*deep breaths*
-whether you played in the Champions league before, whether you did well in your own league, what kind of tv deal your country has, what your country’s EUFA coefficient is, how many other teams from your country also made it into the champions league, whether you win or draw in your matches, and how far you get in the champions league. Oh, you also get a flat fee just for competing, whether or not you win anything. For a lot of smaller clubs from smaller countries, that is the main source of income they get out of it.

Vettonso x Similar Helmets
SV Germany 2012 x FA Monaco 2013: Gold & Dark Red
I think a lot about Vettonso and their mutual relationship witn gold. They're both golden boys, they're both seen lit gold by the sunshine on many podiums throughout the years, both have worn golden boots, and as you can see here: both have worn golden helmets. The parallels in these particular helmets makes me feel insane. Both are: gold with dark red accents, both have their birthplace's coat of arms(Bergstraße and Asturias), both have team animal motifs, and both have symbols to represent their two championships(You by now know the signifigance of the ones on Fernando's helmet, but I think the ones on Seb's are actually a callback to his Formula BMW days when he used to put the smiley stickers on his car for every win.)
And did you know both of these helmets were designed by the same helmet design company? Yep, both of these are JMD helmets. I know JMD helmets are/were pretty popular, but still, there's something to me about Fernando commissioning the same designer that Seb has been using since he was a literal child. Parallels, am I right?
SV Japan 2010 x FA Japan 2023: White with Black & Red
Haha I remember @protocolseben and I discussing this a bit back in September when Fernando's helmet dropped. I honestly think Seb is such an innovator and trailblazer in terms of helmet design, and you can see his influence in helmet design as recently as this past season. I'm not sure if he was the first ever driver to don a matte white helmet with red accents as a representation of the Japanese flag, but it certainly envoked him in my mind when I saw Fernando's!!
I think Fernando's is pretty similar to all of Seb's 2010-2012 Japan helmets but I like this one the most so! I think if Seb wasn't restrained by the Red Bull logo, he def wouldv'e put the red circle where Nando put his so I think Fernando did a really good job, even if unintentionally, at emulating Seb's sense of design.
SV Singapore 2012 x FA Singapore 2012: Sparkly!
Like I said in the one above, it's crazy how much Seb influenced helmet design. He was pretty much the pioneer of sparkly helmets for Singapore, right? It drives me absolutely insane that there's actually pictures of them together in such similar designed helmets. It's kinda funny actually that even though they're pretty deep in the championship fight at this point, and Seb just got one up on Fernando; Fernando is wearing a helmet that is a direct influence from Seb!!! Is that not insane???
Also, Fernando trying to be camp with trying the now in vogue sparkly Singapore helmet, and Seb accidentally completely blew him out of the water with his outrageous light up LED constellation helmet. But god yeah....to have pics of them in matching helmets from this era particuarly makes me emotional ;;;
SV Hungary 2021 x FA 2022: Pink with Dark Blue
I really could've picked any of Seb's 2021 helmets, but I thought this one matched the best with Fernando's main 2021 helmet(with the color pallet.) Also one thing, it's crazy how much control BWT has as a sponsor, I don't think I've ever seen another sponsor go so hard at having a chokehold on individuality. I like that we got pink liveries and pink helmets, but I don't think they should have that much control.
I'm almost kinda sad there wasn't any Miami GP in 2021, because I think that was the only unique helmet Fernando had in 2022. But these match pretty well! Pretty in pink!! It's crazy that their parallels in the 2020s are ongoing even before Fernando actually takes over Seb's seat. Thanks BWT I guess?
SV Abu Dhabi 2022 x FA Abu Dhabi 2022: Fernando's Seb Tribute Helmet
AND HERE WE HAVE THE PIÈCE DE RÉSISTANCE!!! The ultimate conclusion, it literally couldn't get better than this!! This is still unbelievable, like how is this an actual thing that happened!? Fernando intentionally branding his helmet, the only symbol of individuality in F1, with his rival's flag colors, HIS FLAG!!!!! Not to mention the literal "Vettono Best Moments" collage he posted alongside it....and the hand-holding....and everything that happened with them at Abu Dhabi 2022....
But god, after years of incidentally making parallel helmet designs, Fernando decided to officially tie the knot of the red string of fate, and make a helmet directly referencing Seb's. I think it's funny because as I said with two of the previously mentioned ones, those Fernando designs are pretty much inspired by Seb's, and here he is openly making one directly inspired by Seb. I don't really have words for how this actually makes me feel because it's just. Yeah. The most open and clear declaration of love and respect and admiration one could ever make. TO ME.

Boy For All Seasons
Part 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Ao3
After that it became rare for the boys not to see each other. Steve always dropped off and picked up the kids from Hellfire but now he came inside and chatted with Eddie while they packed up. Eddie was now a glorified employee of Family Video often helping Steve and Robin put back tapes while they talked about whatever came to mind. Before long, Thanksgiving weekend had arrived.
"Hey Stevie, how many Harringtons do you guys manage to fit in that big house of yours this time of year?"
"What do you mean, Eds?"
"Ya know, for Thanksgiving, oh or do you guys do the visiting, I guess a lot of y'all have big houses. Do you take turns?"
"Um, no, we used to visit my grandma but we haven't since she died when I was little, I think my parents are in Fiji this year."
"But then how do you have Thanksgiving dinner?"
"I...don't, just watch the football game and have a couple beers."
"Well, I'm sure Wayne would love someone who understood the game this year."
"You, you want me to join you for Thanksgiving?"
"Of course, Stevie, besides I'm pretty sure Wayne is signing the adoption papers as we speak."
Steve laughed, "He's known me for like three weeks, Eddie."
"Yeah, and? He's gotta get in quick, knows Dustin's mom's aiming for ya."
Steve smiles, "Ok Eds, I'll be there, but you better not have some turkey costume stocked away."
"Wouldn't dream of it, plus the church already borrowed it."
That weekend Steve was welcomed into the home of the Munsons.
"I brought pie," Steve said wrapped in a soft sweater when Eddie answered the door.
"You know you didn't have to bribe me, sweetheart, but it is much appreciated," Eddie replied taking the pie as Steve stepped inside.
"Game started yet?"
"Not yet, which side you rooting for, son?"
"Lions all the way, I have some pride after all. Better not be putting on the Cowboys game either."
Eddie barely understood what had been said but the look on Wayne's face made it clear this was the right answer. Eddie finished up dinner while gazing foundly at the two men on the couch. The air was warm and comfortable despite the time of year, if Eddie allowed himself to dream it felt like family, but he didn't want to get his hopes up just yet.
The three of them crowded round the too small table for dinner, Wayne making a little speech as he carved the turkey. They went around and said what they were thankful for this year.
"I'm thankful for the plant giving me a bonus so we could have this beautiful bird tonight."
"I'm thankful for Stevie for allowing me not to have to watch the game again this year."
"I'm thankful for both of you having me here tonight."
"We wouldn't want you anywhere else, Steve."
Later, after they'd shared pie around and it was time for Steve to head back home, Eddie stopped him.
"Hey, it's late why don't you just crash here?"
"That would be great actually if it's not too much trouble?"
"Course not."
"If you have a spare blanket I can just take the couch."
"Nonsense, my bed has plenty of room, c'mon."
Eddie's bed certainly did not have plenty of room for two fully grown boys, but neither of them complained as they lay back to back. Eddie was quick to fall asleep with his bed being nice and warm. For once, he woke up early the next day and was blessed with Steve curled into his chest, a relaxed look gracing his face. Eddie knew then it was too late, his hopes were up and he just hoped they wouldn't be left to fall.

Christian: I was going to suggest we do Marilyn Monroe and JFK roleplay, but I’d get way too into it.
Ben: What- how?
Christian: You’d be like “come to bed, Mr. President” and I’d be like “I need to increase the amount of American military advisors in South Vietnam by a factor of 18.”

Currently reading Ao Ashi for the first time. 100+ chapters in with no hint of stopping the binge and I can officially say that this is in my personal top 3 favorites in sports manga, alongside Eyeshield 21 and Baby Steps. It's got great art, thorough character development + interesting characters, and engaging matches that really gets you pumped!!!

so anyway, got curious about the whole Zwayer having fixed matches before thing so I looked it up and
he was among a group of refs who brought another ref (robert hoyzer) fixing matches to light
he himself got a 6 month ban for not having informed the dfb about this earlier and allegedly taking 300€ from said ref to help fix a match in which he was linesman and hoyzer was the main ref
he claims that he never actually took money from him and just accepted the 6 month ban bc he didn't want a lengthy court process
this incident happened in 2005 so almost 20 years ago (he only started as a dfb ref in 2004)
the details, including the alleged match he himself helped fix only got out in 2014
bellingham brought it up in 2021 after zwayer did a pretty bad job in a game between dortmund and bayern, claiming that you couldn't be surprised if you gave a ref who'd fixed matches before the biggest match in germany, which resulted in zwayer getting death threats and bellingham having to pay a fine
so... y'know. idk if i'd have given zwayer this match, considering his conflict with bellingham, but then again, if he really never fixed any games, essentially punishing him for what bellingham said would suck. And while this is an extreme case, if you stop letting refs ref for players who've said bad things about them before, you're quickly gonna run out of refs
But yeah, when I read ppl saying ''he's fixed matches before'' i did expext smth worse and more recent than one alleged time as a young ref 20 years ago, especially when he ended up outing the ref who got him to do it that time (if it even happened), so i thought some other ppl might also like the context

have i spent the past 3-ish months telling my friend i haven't written anything in 10 years and won't start now? yes.
have i spent the past 2 days writing a rough plot draft for an au where wilhelm is a footballer and simon is a popstar, spanning the whole season, creating an entire fictional football league complete with clubs? maybe also yes.
am i going to write this? i guess all signs also point to yes.

@clo-q here is the link to the article I mentioned regarding Champions League payout structure. Just a heads up, this is a paid subscription of I think $6/month? That said, the articles are well researched, long, and go extremely in-depth on the topic.
They also have a ton of graphs. Like, so many financial graphs.
