British Carboniferous Fossil Plants & Leaves – Coal Measures UK, Authentic Paleozoic Specimen
An outstanding collection piece featuring authentic British Carboniferous Fossil Plants and Leaves from the classic Coal Measures deposits of the Carboniferous Period, approximately 310–320 million years ago. These fossils were formed in the lush, swampy forests that once dominated prehistoric Britain, now preserved as detailed impressions in shale or siltstone.
The fossil assemblage typically includes various species of ferns (Neuropteris, Alethopteris), seed ferns (Pecopteris), lycopsids (Lepidodendron, Sigillaria), and horsetails (Calamites), representing the dominant vegetation of the time.
Fossil Type: Fossilised Plant Impressions (Leaves, Stems, and Fronds)
Geological Age: Carboniferous – Pennsylvanian Subperiod (Westphalian Stage)
Formation: Coal Measures (Upper Carboniferous)
Depositional Environment: These plants grew in lowland tropical wetlands and coal-forming swamps. Rapid burial by sediment in oxygen-poor environments led to remarkable preservation of delicate plant structures in fine-grained muds and silts.
Morphological Features:
Detailed vein and frond impressions
Often preserved as flat carbon films or positive/negative moulds
Fronds may show branching patterns and midrib structures
Notable:
Fossils from the iconic British Coal Measures
Includes representatives of extinct tree-sized club mosses and seed ferns
Excellent for educational use, fossil collectors, and display
Actual specimen photographed – scale rule = 1cm per square
Authenticity: All of our fossils are 100% genuine natural specimens and are supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity. The photo displays the exact specimen offered. Please refer to the image for full dimensions.
This fossilised record of ancient forest life offers an incredible window into Earth’s prehistoric ecosystems. A classic and educational specimen from the Carboniferous coal-forming landscapes of the UK.

Hi, I just want to say I love your content and I'd absolutely buy you food and would love more pictures of you. However, im new to your state and I want to learn about the geology of it! Any fun facts you can share?
thank you omggg 🥺🥺 TX is forever the best state imo hehe
however. as for fun facts, i’m more knowledgeable on specifically paleontology so i hope this is interesting… idk if you’re a fan of national parks, but Big Bend NP out in west texas has the most complete and uninterrupted series of fossiliferous strata in the national park system!! specifically, it preserves formations from the early Cretaceous to the Eocene, about 100 million years or so, from 145ma to ~43ma.
another fun fact—quetzalcoatlus northropi, the largest pterosaur and largest flying organism to ever live (dating back 67 million years to the maastrichtian javelina formation iirc), was found out in Big Bend!! in many ways, everything’s bigger in TX :3
Tumblr media
^^the dude in question, these things were HUGE. 11-12 meter (~36 feet) wingspan!!!

Two Alberta-based environmental consultants say they plan to take legal action against the federal government after it authorized pipeline construction in habitat protected by Canada’s Species at Risk Act.
In an authorization letter dated earlier this year, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, also known as DFO, granted permission to TC Energy subsidiary Nova Gas Transmission Ltd. to carry out work that is “likely to kill” two SARA-listed threatened trout species and destroy its critical habitat in southwest Alberta.
The regulator doesn’t have that authority, the independent consultants say.
“We believe DFO is breaking the law to issue the permit,” said Mike Sawyer, who lives not far from where the construction is underway, roughly 200 kilometres south of Calgary.
“It makes a mockery of the Species at Risk Act. You’ve got these streams that are designated as critical habitat, and you’re not allowed to destroy them or destroy the fish, and yet they give a company like TC Energy a permit.” [...]

I appreciate you answering! Def makes sense and is a pretty grounded take, and the only time I’ve seen someone dislike Elvis jokes from a perspective that’s not defensive ig. Thanks for the commentary I love to see consistency in values bc…yes it’s Elvis but humor so often is a tool to air out our biases and prejudices at an acceptable target. Anywho u hope you enjoy your night!
oh bless up yourself yeah he is a complicated figure. not a fan of his DEA days (nixon handed him a badge it was wild) or his whole Stealing Rock n Roll From Black People thing but we don't need to take pot shots at his body or addiction.

Parrotia flower blooming in Miocene rainforest
Published 10th July 2023
Description and study of the fossil flower of Parrotia zhiyani based on a well-preserved amber inclusion from the middle Miocene of Zhangpu, Southeast China using light microscope and microcomputed tomography techniques.
Tumblr media
Amber fossil of Parrotia zhiyani.
Based on this paper and fossil, Parrotia zhiyani was a small flower with no petals and likely produced polymer. They had a pair of prominent bracts that the flower would've bloomed from. The androecium consists of 12 stamens (pollen producing area of flower), and each stamen consists of a short, slender filament and a prominent, elongated anther (pollen). The anthers with short simple hair like outgrowths on the outer surface and a prominent connective extension at the top were opened by vertical slits. Unlike its living relatives, the new Parrotia from Zhangpu grew in a Miocene seasonal tropical rainforest.

I saw some Ginkgo at a floor and decor parking lot a couple minutes away from a Home Depot at Union, New Jersey . Looks like it has fruits. I might come back to this spot later to collect .

On yesterdays stream we covered the Tiki formation of India, a productive Triassic formation most notable in recent years for it's bonebed of Colossosuchus. This formation was deposited largely during the Carnian, an episode in Earth history known for increased global rainfall.
Tumblr media
Subsequently there are lots of flooding events from this period and since we have this from the Tiki formation as well a flooded forest seemed like the best setting for this piece. Also not the baby and juvenile Colossosuchus: the bonebed that preserved them mostly consisted of...

fossils the most common animals should actually be small archosaurs, but so far their record isn't good enough to put a name on them. Plants are also known in larger quantities.
Thankfully Julianne Kiely helped with this and even provided a quick little guide to the flora of this formation.
Tumblr media
As so often Discord member JW provided the size charts for this stream. take note on the huge temnospondyl from here, a specimen that is now unfortunately lost. Thanks to personal communication with Dr. Sanjukta Chakravorti we were able to get a pretty good estimate.
