Sophie Lawton at MMFA:
The Family Research Council’s news outlet, The Washington Stand, posted a June 3 commentary claiming “the Left” used witchcraft and ancient spiritual warfare tactics to secure 34 guilty verdicts in former President Donald Trump’s New York hush money trial last week. FRC, which has been designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for its anti-LGBTQ activism, is a partner of The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, a large-scale effort to provide staff and policy proposals for the next GOP presidential administration.
The blog titled “The Spiritual Warfare behind the Trump Conviction” was written by senior reporter and editor Ben Johnson, who opens by claiming he is a “prophet” for predicting in 2021 that “the Left” would go after Trump with lawfare in the Southern District of New York.  Johnson explains his view on how witchcraft factored into the prosecution and conviction of Trump in his New York City trial, claiming Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg “pulled off an act of voodoo jurisprudence”.
The Washington Stand, a news blog run by far-right extremist group and Project 2025 sponsor Family Research Council, had an article ludicrously asserting that Donald Trump's 34 felony convictions were the result of "witchcraft."

U.S. Navy growler flies again after flight collision
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 10/30/2022 - 19:05 in Military
A U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler electronic attack aircraft made its first flight five years after being involved in an air collision over Nevada.
The Growler of the Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129 successfully completed a functional verification flight at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station (NAS) on October 17, marking the end of a complex transformation process for an aircraft that was thought to be beyond repair.
The aircraft, then attached to the VAQ-133 "Wizards", was involved in an air collision with another aircraft attached to Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 2 at the Fallon Naval Station (NAS) during a training event on September 14, 2017.
Tumblr media

Both aircraft landed safely and the crew left unharmed. The Growler remained at NAS Fallon for several years, as a reform of this nature had never been done before and there were no processes or procedures about exactly how repairs could be completed.
After the initial inspection, there was little hope that the aircraft would be able to fly due to the complexity of the necessary repairs after the accident, as well as the weather damage caused by years of stay in a desert environment.
However, after thorough analysis and continuous coordination, the path to growler's recovery began when the release for repair was granted in 2021. In February of that year, the aircraft was loaded into a truck and transferred to the Fleet Replacement Squadron, VAQ-129, on NAS Whidbey Island.
Tumblr media
Classified as a "special rework", the funding was approved and a long-term hangar space was identified for the unprecedented project. For more than a year, engineers, maintainers and facility artisans in the United States have collaborated to develop processes, complete repairs and thoroughly inspect the recovered aircraft - more than 2,000 man-hours in total.
“This was a team effort from the people at Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) Southeast, FRC Southwest Engineering and my FRC Northwest team,” said Tommy Moore, warehouse leader at FRC Northwest. “We reassembled the aircraft replacing all the main components and returned the aircraft to the VAQ-129 as a complete 'special rework' on April 24, 2022."

The Growler will soon be transferred to an operational squad to be deployed around the world and be ready to carry out flight operations in the coming decades.
Captain David Harris, commodore of the Electronic Attack Wing Pacific, praised the efforts of the entire Naval Aviation Enterprise in carrying out this unprecedented mission.
“It was really amazing to see the entire Naval Aviation Enterprise team get together to recover this much-needed asset back to flight status,” Harris said. "From the engineers who developed the necessary repair projects, to the artisans who carried out the complex repairs, to the VAQ-129 sailors who finally rebuilt the aircraft for a flight status; it was a real team effort."

Happy 75th anniversary of Scrooge McDuck!
On November 14, 1947, a comic called Christmas on Bear Mountain was released and although it was a Christmas comic, Donald’s uncle named Scrooge McDuck will appear for the first time. At the beginning a big grumpy and bastard man, and at the end a happy man and an adventurer who only loves money. And yes, that comic was invented by Carl Barks, a genius comic artist and writer. Barks is also credited with creating the character Scrooge McDuck. So thanks Barks.
Scrooge was modeled on Ebenezer Scrooge in a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and was a real antagonist at first and cruel to his nephew Donald. However, he will later change and become a great legend not only for his great wealth, but also for his adventures, which he will later write about the making of the Indiana Jones movies. In addition, although he appeared as a forerunner in Donald’s classic propaganda short “The Spirit of ‘43” as Donald’s Good Spirit, he will have a real role in an educational classic short called “Scrooge McDuck and the Money” (1967), to become 20 years later the main character for the legendary Ducktales series (1987).
Apart from Barks, there were other writers and artists who worked for Donald Duck comics. Especially Don Rosa, who wrote and drew, around his collector’s comic, related to Scrooge’s life “The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck”. Of course there are other authors who have worked a lot on Scrooge comics such as William Van Horn, Marco Rota, Romano Scarpa, Giovanni Carpi, Guido Martina, Giovanni Cavazano, Arild Mildthun, Kari Korhonen and others.
Of course, Scrooge McDuck will also appear in other cartoons, comics, video games and other Disney franchises. He becomes the first richest duck in the world, having over a trillion dollars and becoming a hilarious legend and thus together with Donald and Daffy Duck, he becomes one of the most famous and best fictional duck characters ever.
Now there are pictures of the richest duck in the world, together with his friends and enemies and his family from the beginning until today, in its various versions. And sorry that this is going to be a long post and that not everyone will be able to stop at this post.
Yes, much of it is copy-pasted from my Scrooge post from last year which you can see here: https://ducklooney.tumblr.com/post/671249232279355393/happy-late-birthday-scrooge-mcduck
If you like the richest character in the world, feel free to like and reblog this! Happy birthday to you, Scrooge McDuck! And sorry for the delay! And happy 75th anniversary of his appearance! Although Scrooge is over 100 years old.

Although I know it's not something, but still to make a new meme, but this time united all around a common fandom and that Donald Duck fandom and Disney Duckverse in general. All Duckverse fans, regardless of video games, comics, cartoons and other things, regardless of the differences we don't like and quarrel with each other, let's unite around one, and that is that Donald Duck is the best character and that thanks to him we have Duckverse as a special separate universe in which we can enjoy various characters and various things. Of course, everyone has the right to their opinion.
All Donald and Duckverse fans, ASSEMBLE!

West Virginia State Senate Republicans think that my existence is an indecent display of a sexually explicit nature.
Bill text includes: "For the purposes of any prohibition, protection or requirement under any and all articles and sections of the Code of West Virginia protecting children from exposure to indecent displays of a sexually explicit nature, such prohibited displays shall include, but not be limited to, any transvestite and/or transgender exposure, performances or display to any minor."
You can't even "just not be trans" out and about in the world and keep your transness in private - which would be oppressive and unhealthy even if you could.
This isn't even a separate and unequal segregation proposal.
This is one of 126 anti-trans bills in the statehouses so far this year, less than three weeks in, three times more than there were by the end of January last year.
In all of 2015 there were 21. In all of 2016 there were 36. In all of 2017 there were 15 just among the bathroom bills In all of 2018 there were 19. In all of 2019 there were 25. In all of 2020 there were 60. (or 79 as per SPLC) In 2021 there were 131
Last year there were 174.
Many of these carry the same language assembled through model legislation by groups such as
Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) The Heritage Foundation Family Policy Alliance Family Research Council (FRC)
I've posted information like this before but with a link in the top post and I'm not sure if the algorithm reduces views to those. Plus I wanted to combine info from multiple posts.

Bitcoins Biggest Scandal: Fugitive CEO Hit With $3.4 Billion Fine In Record Fraud Case
Bitcoin’s Biggest Scandal: Fugitive CEO Hit With $3.4 Billion Fine In Record Fraud Case https://bitcoinist.com/bitcoin-biggest-scandal-fugitive-ceo-hit-with-fine/ While the crypto market has continued to evolve, the amount of crypto stolen has surged in recent years creating a large pool of fraud cases. In a historic verdict, US District Judge Lee Yeakel has ordered a South African executive to pay more than $3.4 billion in restitution and fines for a fraud scheme involving Bitcoin.  Cornelius Johannes Steynberg, the founder and CEO of Mirror Trading International Proprietary, was involved in a global “fraudulent multilevel marketing scheme” to solicit Bitcoin from people for participation in an unregistered commodity pool operated by Mirror Trading. The scheme resulted in the solicitation of at least 29,421 Bitcoin, worth more than $1.7 billion in March 2021, from at least 23,000 individuals in the United States and from around the world.  However, Steynberg misappropriated all of the Bitcoin accepted from pool participants either directly or indirectly, according to US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Despite the US CFTC imposing the fine, it warned that it “may not result in the recovery of any money lost because wrongdoers may not have sufficient funds or assets.”  Since the end of 2021, Steynberg has been in detention in Brazil on an Interpol arrest warrant, as he is a fugitive from South African law enforcement. The CFTC has imposed a permanent ban on Steynberg’s trading activities in all markets that fall under its regulation. The Scheme’s Modus Operandi Steinberg’s Mirror Trading International Proprietary operated as a Bitcoin investment pool that utilized bot trading algorithms. The investors would deposit Bitcoin into the pool, and in return, the pool would generate daily profits from trading on various cryptocurrency exchanges.  However, the CFTC claimed that the bot trading algorithms were a sham and were never used to trade cryptocurrencies. Instead, the pool’s funds were used to enrich the pocket of Steynberg and other operators of the scheme. The US agency further alleged that Steynberg misrepresented the pool’s performance and concealed the significant losses it incurred. The funds that investors received were not from actual trading profits but from the Bitcoin deposited by other investors.  The CFTC also revealed that Steynberg and his associates used a portion of the Bitcoin deposits to acquire assets like real estate, luxury cars, and expensive watches. Implications Of The Verdict The $3.4 billion fine imposed on Steynberg is the highest-ever civil monetary penalty in any CFTC case. The magnitude of the fine highlights the severity of the fraud and the significant role that Bitcoin played in the scheme.  The verdict may also serve as a warning to other bad actors in the cryptocurrency space, signaling that they cannot evade legal consequences. However, the CFTC’s warning that the fine may not result in the recovery of any lost funds highlights the need for increased regulation in the cryptocurrency industry.  Regulators must strive to ensure that investors are protected from fraudulent schemes, and companies must adhere to strict operating standards to avoid scams. Meanwhile, Steynberg’s conviction and the massive fine imposed on him may help to build trust in the cryptocurrency space to some extent, as it demonstrates that fraud and other illegal activities in the industry are not immune to legal consequences.  Regardless of the circulating news in the industry including that of major bank First Republic Bank (FRC) collapse, the crypto market has experienced bullish movement. Over the past 24 hours, the global crypto market cap has surged by 1.4% with the total value above $1.2 trillion. The fate of history in the balance: The Seattle Federal Records Center still under threat
On February 16, John C. Coughenour, a Reagan-appointee and Senior Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, blocked the sale of the National Archives facility at Seattle, one of the Federal Records Centers (FRC) in the U.S. with a preliminary injunction. This ended the movement of records from the facility to FRCs in Missouri and California, many of which are “un-digitized records.” He called the situation a “public relations disaster” of the Public Buildings Reform Board (PBRB), the entity which proposed the sale, and said that the PBRB had “a stunning lack of appreciation of the issues” of indigenous people. While the attorney generals of Washington State and Oregon applauded the decision, as did indigenous people, genealogists, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, and others, the fight is not over. The Stranger said that history “requires defending in the present,” The Cut argued that the fate of the Seattle FRC “remains undecided,” and MyNorthwest noted there is “more potential trouble” in the future if noting about the facility changes going forward. On February 18, local Seattle leaders and the governor of Oregon both wrote President Biden, calling on him to stop the sale of the facility. Even with the injunction, it is short-lived, meaning that the facility remains under threat. As such, it is important to once again, as I noted in February and November of last year, to explain the negative impact the closure of this facility will have on those in the Pacific Northwest and in the U.S. as a whole.
Reprinted from Issues & Advocacy (on Mar. 8, 2021) and my History Hermann WordPress blog. This was written before the sale of the facility was halted by the Biden Administration. After learning this, I said on Twitter, "that doesn't mean it should be sold. The decision to sell tthee [sic] facility was rotten and it's good it was stopped," called for a bigger budget to NARA, and noted "it was good timing to write another article about this back in March. I personally wasn't sure whether the sale would be cancelled [sic], but I am glad it was."
Over the past year, there have been legal efforts to delay the closure. Kim Wyman, the Secretary of State of Washington State, began meeting with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and other stakeholders, in hopes of brokering a solution to keep the archival materials, which document “history across the Pacific Northwest” in the state of Washington. At the same time, Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson made filings in federal court, including the recent lawsuit which included almost 600 pages from indigenous peoples, individuals, and interested groups which attest to the value of the Seattle facility and materials which are held there. If the “nearly million” boxes of archival materials from the facility were moved to Missouri and California as planned, access to records about Asian American history would be made more difficult, as would records that relate to the “cultural preservation, history and treaty rights” of various indigenous nations in the Pacific Northwest. Moving the records to facilities in those states would make them less publicly accessible, destroying one of the “wellsprings” from which the “collective memory” of the region and nation is formed, as argued in the case in the amicus brief by the Korematsu Center. A recent successful lawsuit filed by Ferguson in early January, joined by 29 indigenous groups, and historic community and preservation groups, to stop the relocation and sale of the Seattle FRC, explains the problem succinctly:
“This action shows a callous disregard for the people who have the greatest interest in being able to access these profoundly important records…The facility contains the DNA of our region. It provides public access to permanent records created by Federal agencies and courts in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington…the National Archives at Seattle is the only property among those the PBRB recommended for sale that has profound importance to the region in which it is situated and is regularly used by members of the public…These irreplaceable archives are primarily un-digitized and do not exist elsewhere.”
The closure of the facility would violate NARA’s own principles to preserve and provide access to U.S. records and document U.S. history, especially those documents essential to U.S. government actions, rights of U.S. citizens, and any other records which “provide information of value to citizens.” It also runs afoul of NARA’s commitment to drive “openness, cultivate public participation” and strengthen U.S. democracy through “public access to high-value government records.” That same commitment states that NARA will lead the “archival and information professions to ensure archives thrive in a digital world.” That seems unlikely since only about 1% of the NARA’s record holdings are digitized and even less than 1% of presidential library records have been put online.
Furthermore, moving the records from Seattle to the FRCs in California, whether in Riverside or in San Francisco, and St. Louis, Missouri, would disregard the core values of archivists outlined by the Society of American Archivists. These core values state that archivists have a duty to foster greater access and use to records, maintain records which allow “contemporary and future entities” to seek accountability, serve as responsible “stewards for primary sources,” and root their “ethics of care that prioritizes sustainable practices and policies” when it comes to archival duties. The “boxes of information” within the Seattle FRC, highlighted by one local Seattle reporter, Matthew Smith, would be made less accessible if the records were moved elsewhere in the country. If the Seattle FRC is closed, it will be a sad day for archives, records, and preservation of U.S., indigenous, and community history.
Although the closure of the Seattle FRC has been halted by Judge Coughenour, this is only a temporary measure. In the short-term, you could contact the management team of NARA, especially chief archivist David Ferriero ([email protected]), deputy chief archivist Debra Steidel Wall ([email protected]), and Chief Operating Officer William J. Bosanko ([email protected]), and the PBRB at [email protected], to express your opposition to the closure, while calling on President Biden to follow the judge’s decision and keep the facility open. In the long term, NARA needs increased funding and you can use the information put together by the Archival Researchers Association to contact your members of Congress to push for legislation which would increase the agency’s budget.

BT project
our gorup wanted to know how BT is outside of the company's briefing as they would want us to hold a positive interpretation of their brand whilst we work with them. However, we believe we need to know what the public truly and currently thinks about BT in order to create work for them; as we are making work on behalf of BT for their audience.
History:
BT claims it is the oldest telecommunications company in the world
Was known as Electric Telegraph Company and established in 1846
Initially the Post office held responsibility over the company
Was privatized and became British telecommunications PLC, which evolved into BT Group PLC and serves in 170 countries
1891 - first link between London and Paris creating an international service
BT Act of 1981 made it see responsibility for all telecommunication services in Uk
July 1882 the government sold 51% of shares to private investors - privatizing the company , telecommunications act of 1984 (general public)
1991 - changed their name to BT and changed their internal organizational structure
1994 - failed concert communications services, global telecommunication company that would of been worth 1billion, but ended project in 1997 and sold their stake in MCI to WorldCom for 7b
Bt has purchased companies like albacom etc…
They are 5 businesses including: Openreach, BT Global services, BT Business, BT Consumer and BT wholesale
Provides communications solutions and services
It services, national and international telecommunication services
Broadband
Internet products and services
Bt innovate and design and BT operate
They have Heritage Policy which details how, they can and must preserve their national heritage
Controversies
BT profits dive by 40% after 225 million payout over Italian scandal : https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/jul/28/bt-profits-italian-scandal-deutsche-telekom-orange

World Wide Web Hyperlink Patent2001
discovered it owned a patent which is believed gave it patent rights on the use of hyperlink technology on the WWW
But it was an expired patent in the UK
US patent was valid until 2006
Bt 11 Feb 2002, began a court case to US federal court against internet service provider Prodigy communications corporation
BT v Prodigy
U S district court for the southern district of NY ruled 22 august 2002 that BT patent was not applicable to web technology and ranted prodigy’s request to summary judgment of non-infringement
Behavioural targeting
2008 - contract with spyware company Phorm to intercept and analyze users click-stream data and sell the anonymised aggregate information as part of phorms OIX advertising service
‘Data pimping’
‘Intense scrutiny
No consent from users
Illegal under Uk law (RIPA)
Sir Tim Berners-Lee, world wide web creator, disapproved of this concept
Huawei Infrastructure Access
2010 Uk intelligence community investigated Huawei (chinese supplier of BT’s new fiber infrastructure)
US, Canada and Australia prevented this company from operating in their countries
BT notified UK government in 2003 of their interest in their 10bn network upgrade contract but did not mention that Huawei would have unfettered access to critical infrastructure
2 december, David Cameron received in depth report indicating intelligence services doubted Huawei and that Uk government, military and civilian privacy was udner threat
7 June 2013 - lawmakers decided Bt should not have allowed this to happen, and shocked that they did not inform the government that they allowed Huawei and ZTe (ties to Chinese military) access to critical national systems
BT was mandated to ensure that the equipment was threat-free
Government confirmed that if an attack happened, there is nothing that could stop Chinese infiltration
Alleged Complicity with Drone strikes in yemen and Somalia
September 2021
Entered 23 million deal with the US military to provide key communication cable connecting RAF croughton
US military base on Uk soil with Camp Lemonier
Used as a base for American drone attacks in Yemen and Somalia
And is considered one of the most important drone operations outside of the Afghanistan war zone

2013 - Reprieve complaint about BT to the department of business, innovation and skills under OECD guidelines for multinational enterprises
Refusal to explain whether or not their infrastructure was used to facilitate drone strikes
The complaint was appealed 2014 however, people believed this was bias as the government minister for the department which received the complaint also held a senior position at BT
Overcharging
Feb 2017
Review of telecoms market by Ofcom found BT landline phone contracts provided poor value to customers
Should have reduced their pricing and compensated customers
Jan 2021, Law firm Mishcon de Reya filed a claim with Competition Appeal Tribunal against BT (600 mill) accusing them of historic overcharging
Claimants suggest customers could be entitled to compensation of up to 500 each
Bidding rules violation
2020
Fined 6.3 mill telecoms regulator ofcom for violating law on a large public sector deal in Northern Ireland
Regulations declare they must handle all wholesale customers similarly

A short history of where all this anti-trans stuff came from
Brynn Tannehill has given us a very helpful overview of the recent anti-transgender activism in the USA over at twitter.
I present it here in an easy to read format:
Tumblr media
A short history of where all this anti-trans stuff came from, and why you should be concerned. Worth a read, please take a look.
2015: Having lost the fight against marriage equality, but winning against LGBT protection laws, religious right leadership decides to shift focus onto trans people via bathroom bills, fear mongering, and making it a wedge issue.
Tumblr media
Photo: Brett Coomer/Houston Chronicle/AP
2015-2016: Using $10,000 in seed money the [right wing “Christian” organization Alliance Defending Freedom] ADF stands up WoLF, a "feminist" organization whose sole activity is fighting against transgender people, to make their religious goals look secular and feminist.
2015: The [right wing extremist Family Research Council] FRC publishes it's plan [for] trans people: no legal recognition, no legal protections, no transition related health care, and no trans people in the military. It encourages religious based conversion therapy instead.
2016: After passing an anti-transgender "bathroom" bill, NC governor Pat McCrory loses the election as a result of the backlash. He later advises Trump to stay out of trans fights.
2017: Despite running a campaign that largely avoided LGBT issues, Trump quickly appeases his base and moves to ban trans people from the military and revoke federal protections. The FRC and Ryan Anderson of Heritage are key influencers.
2018: Project Blitz, a powerful political movement to eliminate the separation of church and state, develops a playbook to pass state laws treating transness as a communicable public health hazard, to be eradicated by the government like measles.
2020: The [American Principles Project] APP, a religious right PAC, bucks the RNC and tries to make the 2020 election about trans people as a wedge, focusing on trans youth sports and medicine. Though unsuccessful at the time, they succeed post-election.
2020: A consortium of religious right organizations launch a project to attack LGBT youth and parents, with the aim of passing laws outing trans youth, plus bathroom, sports, and medical bans. They promote conversion therapy as the only option.
Tumblr media
2021: Tucker Carlson and Fox News ramp up the anti-trans coverage to unheard of levels, (several segments a day) largely echoing the stated aims of the religious right and shaming Republicans who aren't draconian enough.
2021: The GOP shifts focus to "wokeness" and "cancel culture" which they blame in great part on transgender people. They make it clear that trans people are one of their top issues going forward, and a intention of fear mongering with falsehoods.
2021: A record number of anti-trans bills are passing state legislatures. Most use model language provided by ADF, and target target trans youth in sports and medicine. Some bathroom bills as well. Many pass. It's the worst ever.
March 26, 2021: Tucker Carlson, Fox's most popular host, openly embraces white nationalism. Her also endorses the notion that if the left doesn't surrender (presumable giving up trans people as a sacrifice), fascism is the only option left.
April 7, 2021: Carlson declares that transgender people are a threat to the survival of the human species, implying that minimizing them is more than just a moral imperative, and that they represent an existential threat to eliminated.
April 8, 2021: [British/American right wing extremist blogger] Andrew Sullivan proposes a "compromise" to the "transgender question" that includes a national bathroom ban, "separate but equal" facilities and sports, national bans on health care for trans youth, and banning any discussion of trans issues in schools.
Tumblr media
If "separate but equal" being floated as a "solution" to the "trans question" doesn't make you nervous, I'll also point out that Germany took it's cues from the American Jim Crow South.
April 8, 2021: Donald Trump wades into the fight, threatening Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson for vetoing a bill banning care for trans youth. This signal Trump has embraced the anti-trans right, and this will drag on for years.
It also signals this is likely to be a wedge issue in 2022, and in the general election in 2024, making it the first time in 20 years that LGBT issues have been centered in a presidential election, and that the GOP thinks they can win on this openly.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) released its 2021 "hate map" with an updated list of 733 organizations it brands "hate groups" on Wednesday. The list still includes many prominent conservative advocacy groups and a Christian ministry that has sued the SPLC for defamation in a Supreme Court appeal challenging New York Times v. Sullivan (1964).
The 733 number represents a decline from the 838 "hate groups" the SPLC reported last year.
The SPLC defines a "hate group" as "an organization or collection of individuals that – based on its official statements or principles, the statements of its leaders, or its activities – has beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics. An organization does not need to have engaged in criminal conduct or have followed their speech with actual unlawful action to be labeled a hate group."
SPLC KEEPS CHRISTIAN GROUP ON ‘HATE MAP’ 9 YEARS AFTER TERRORIST ATTACK
Critics have claimed that the SPLC brands mainstream conservative and Christian organizations "hate groups," placing them on a list and a map with truly hateful organizations like the Ku Klux Klan. The "Intelligence Project," the SPLC division that monitors "hate groups," began as a project to monitor the KKK and other White supremacist organizations.
In 2019, the SPLC fired its co-founder, Morris Dees, in the wake of claims of racial discrimination and sexual harassment that traced back decades. Amid this scandal, a former staffer came forward, claiming that the SPLC uses its "hate group" accusation to exaggerate hate in a fundraising scheme to "bilk" donors.
The 2021 "hate group" list includes many conservative nonprofit organizations, branding them "anti-LGBT hate groups," "anti-Muslim hate groups" and "anti-immigrant hate groups." The list includes Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), the Family Research Council (FRC), ACT for America, the Center for Security Policy (CSP), the American Freedom Law Center (AFLC) and D. James Kennedy Ministries (DJKM).
In August 2012, a terrorist targeted FRC in Washington, D.C, planning to shoot everyone in the building and put a Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich by each victim's head. The shooter opened fire, striking a security guard, who successfully tackled him until police arrived, preventing the intended massacre. The shooter, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison on charges including terrorism, told the FBI that he found FRC on the SPLC's "hate map." The SPLC condemned the shooting, but it has kept FRC on the "hate map."
The SPLC has faced multiple defamation lawsuits over its "hate" and "extremist" labeling. In 2018, the SPLC paid $3.375 million and issued a groveling apology after branding Muslim reformer Maajid Nawaz an "Anti-Muslim Extremist." The Supreme Court is considering whether to take up DJKM's defamation lawsuit challenging the "hate group" accusation.
CHRISTIAN MINISTRY APPEALS SPLC CASE TO SUPREME COURT, CHALLENGING NYT V. SULLIVAN
The SPLC has also faced criticism for its large endowment, which had $529,801,832 in 2019, and for offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands.
"DJKM proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the truths of the Bible," David Gibbs, DJKM's attorney, told Fox News Digital in a statement. "The ministry has sued SPLC for defamation, libel, and slander because we are not a ‘hate’ organization, and our case is currently before the Supreme Court to decide whether the Times v Sullivan standard should be reconsidered."
"We believe that greater accountability will create more civility in public discourse, and SPLC’s hate map is dangerous and intended to destroy organizations which they arbitrarily decide to include," Gibbs added. "If every church and ministry with similar Biblical beliefs were included, it would at least be complete, but SPLC selectively targets some organizations for destruction for reasons known only to them."
"The SPLC so-called ‘hate map’ is accurately titled," a spokesperson for AFLC, a Judeo-Christian law firm in Michigan, told Fox News Digital. "It is nothing but a listing of progressives' hatred of any person or organization that disagrees with their radical sociopolitical agenda. And being a hateful progressive organization is profitable in this day and age."
"Any non-profit that hides hundreds of millions of dollars in secret off-shore bank accounts is in reality a money-laundering criminal enterprise dressed up as a non-profit," the AFLC spokesperson added. SPLC brands AFLC an "anti-Muslim hate group."
"The SPLC has perfected the art of smearing their opponents in a way that defies all sense of logic and objectivity," Brigitte Gabriel, founder and chairman of ACT for America, told Fox News Digital. "Not only are those they often target not actually hateful, but often, actually fighting against hatred and standing for true human rights."
Gabriel, whose organization the SPLC brands an "anti-Muslim hate group," said she founded ACT for America "after the tragedy of 9/11 because I am a survivor of terrorism." She said that after radical Islamic terrorists bombed her home in Lebanon in 1975, she determined to "fight hatred and evil and stand up for the defenseless no matter who they are and what their religion is."
"The SPLC realized long ago that selling hate was very lucrative to their bottom line," Gabriel added. "They not only named ACT For America as a hate group, they even went so far as to list 48 chapters of our organization as 48 different hate groups at one point." The 2021 list has 22 "hate group" entries for ACT for America.
DEMOCRATS CELEBRATE SPLC ANNIVERSARY, IGNORE RACE, SEX, FUNDRAISING SCANDALS
Gabriel noted the 2019 scandal, claiming that "the same organization that projects itself as the sole arbiter of who can and should be considered a hate group, is in fact itself, a hate group, starting at the very top of their organization." She called the organization "an insincere, untrustworthy, slanderous, money-sucking machine" and called on "corporations, government agencies and the media" to "find a more honorable, objective and trustworthy source of information when it comes to identifying ‘hate’ in modern-day America."
Don Woodsmall, interim president of the Center for Security Policy, pointed to the 2019 scandal and the FRC shooting.
"The SPLC leadership’s own history is one of racism, misogyny and spreading hate, including an extremist attack on the Family Research Center," Woodsmall told Fox News Digital. "The notion that haters of the truth can be fit judges of who is or is not a ‘hater’ is preposterous, and the sooner people stop taking these far-left loons seriously the better."
The SPLC did not respond to an after-hours request for comment regarding the criticism.
