Got assigned my first big engineering project as a college student: building a model Mars rover. There’s another FRC alum in my group. Proof FRC is it’s own language:

Me: Tank?

Other Alum: that could work well

Other member: Like make it look like a tank?

Us: Drivetrain.

Different member: With treads???

Us: Treads yes. Belts no.

Everyone else: 🤨

You know you’ve spent too long in the pits when you can still feel the phantom of your safety glasses around your ears hours after you took them off.

Chilling because you have an easy job at competition while your girlfriend actively fights computer demons in the pits is such a strange experience. I’m playing infinity Nikki while she evades scuffles between other robot people. This is such a niche post only one mutual and my irl friends will understand.

being an frc alum and friends with other alums means that 2 weeks out of the year you and your friends get activated like sleeper agents to say the weirdest sentences known to man then the second the competitions are over you never speak of them again

This Friday Molly got to meet a robot! The local junior high robotics team dedicated some time to come to the nursing home where I work so the patients could see their robot and learn about how it works! Me and my coworkers agreed it was a great opportunity for Molly to learn how to function around unexpected things, she did VERY well considering you don't see robots everyday. The team was nice enough to let me get a photo of the bot with Molly, and she thoroughly enjoyed watching it wander around the floor (I let her watch the bot for awhile since it was a new experience and expecting her to focus right away was just completely unrealistic). She was able to effectively task and listen to commands even while watching her environment which is exactly what I hoped for. Great job Molly!

kickoff was an absolute blast! the game looks really interesting and there's some cool strategy options. today, we created most of our strategy and decided to ignore algae altogether except for potentially a processor mechanism if we have time, and focus on scoring all levels of coral. the climb is undecided except that we're gonna do some sort of climb, and that will be finalized sometime this week.
