Teeny fic based on Cassie’s latest newsletter (aka the Hair Memo)

“Alec, please. Just one little haircut.”

Alec looked up from the stack of Clave reports he was reading through, frowning at Magnus. “I don’t see why it matters.”

Magnus crossed his arms over his chest. “It matters because this morning your annoying blond brother sent a memo to the Head of every Institute claiming that your hair looks, quote, ‘like he cuts it in the dark with nail scissors.’”

“I told Jace not to send that stupid memo.” Alec grumbled. “It looks unprofessional.” He tapped the stack of reports in front of him. “Half of these are complaints about it.”

“Nevertheless, his point still stands.” Magnus persisted. “You should really let me cut your hair.”

Alec still looked dubious, and Magnus hastened to reassure him. “No dye. No gel. No glitter. Just a little trim.” He ran a hand through Alec’s hair, ruffling it up, and Alec leaned into him, closing his eyes. He could feel Alec relax, the tension slipping from his shoulders as Magnus played with his hair.

Without opening his eyes, Alec murmured, “Okay.”

“Really?” Magnus said in surprise. “You mean it?”

Alec cracked open one eye to look at him. “I do.” He reached out to pull Magnus into his lap, helping him get settled so his legs were draped over Alec’s thighs. “But nothing crazy, okay? I’m leaving the dye to you.”

“And Simon.” Magnus said.

Alec laughed. “And Simon.”

He stroked a hand through Magnus’s hair, twirling the strands between his fingers. Gold streaks ran through the black, with blue at the tips. Magnus tended to change his hair often, but he’d had this particular look for a while now. Since their wedding a few months ago, in fact. Alec liked it more than any other of Magnus’s hairstyles.

“Anyway,” Alec murmured. “Jace’s judgment is obviously skewed. Your hair is a million times better than his.”

Magnus laughed, bright and happy, and leaned in for a kiss. He sank his hands into Alec’s hair again, pulling him in, and Alec went willingly, smiling against Magnus’s lips.

Dru crossed one leg over the other. She wished she was wearing something a little more dignified than ripped fishnets, boots, and a t-shirt dress that said SURELY NOT EVERYONE WAS KUNG-FU FIGHTING, but she hadn’t expected to be pulled into the Headmaster’s office so unceremoniously.

i wish cassie would really commit to making a boy a main character in a tsc main trilogy. like before tlh came out she was setting james up as the mc imo, and i was so sure she was setting kitty up as the main couple & kit as the protagonist. i think it would be really cool to see a boy leading the series.

(also i know that james, will, jace & jules are main charakters but they’re not the main character if you know what i mean, cordelia, tessa, clary & emma are. and obviously are magnus & alec main characters of tec & the magnus bane chronicles, and simon of tftsa & jem from gotsm but they’re not main series like tmi or tid)

and i know not much info about twp is out yet but the last newsletter made it seem like she’s doing it again..

Regarding the latest TWP controversy. A Rant.

A lot of ppl from the kitty fandom showed their true colors when the latest newsletter from Cassie Clare was released. It was all ‘Queen Dru’ or ‘Go Dru’ until Dru was worded before kitty in the newsletter and suddenly many resorted to body shaming Dru and hating on her when Cassie Clare made it clear that there is no such thing as main couple in TWP. Seriously just like many ppl are happy and excited about Kitty so is many ppl excited to see Dru and her adventures and love life. Cassie mentioned time and time again that Dru will be a significant character so why is so many ppl in the Kitty fandom so upset???? Dru barely has any content you guys had multiple povs through out TDA, tons of content in Gotsh, Sobh, artworks that wasn’t enough??? You all like Dru as long as she doesn’t overshadow your faves. I’m not a big fan of Kitty but I’m not going to throw a huge tantrum and cry if they become the focus of the author in newsletters or discussions. So many ppl in the fandom are in their 20s and even 30s act like middle schoolers who throw fits because things don’t go the way they want it to. Dru is central to the plot as much as Kitty if you don’t like that, you can keep crying and seething about it. And shout out to the TSC fans who were mature about this whole situation. They’ve my heart 💕

Wow, why did everyone read Cassie's newsletter like she hinted at Kit and Ty being a side couple or not the main focus? Am I the only one chill about it coz I didn't think too hard on it? I literally assumed all of them being mentioned, in whatever order, meant that Cassie wasn't gonna leave anyone out like Christopher from tlh and give them all the page time they (and we) deserve.

I have to admit, I am a little confused about the Kickstarter.

So the plans if I’m correct are SOBH, three new novelas and a diary and the kickstarter is a way of funding? I have no idea how it all works but I hope people can eventually buy them even if I prefer online books.

Kickstarter is a crowdfunding platform, people put projects on it to try to get the funds to make them a reality. That is, the books Cassie mentioned on the newsletter don't exist yet, she will use the money gained through Kickstarter to fund the development and production of these books independently, since this project isn't being done with the backing of a publisher. However it isn't SOBH and 4 novelas, it's 4 whole books: one is SOBH, one an updated version of the flower book, one a book with 4 novellas, and another a book a la GOTSM with 10 short stories focused on shadowhunter couples + the journal.

The campaign itself isn't up yet, it'll only go live in November, for now it's just a holding page on the Kickstarter site where you can sign up to receive the alert for when the Kickstarter does go live, which has its perks because if you back it up in the first 48h you'll receive the first chapter of TWP as a bonus when prizes start being send out.

Since the actual campaign isn't up yet, we can't know exactly how she will set it up, and I admit I have never used Kickstarter because it's not the crowdfunding platform used in my country, but crowdfunding projects usually have many "tiers" you can choose from. So tier 1 might get you only the SOBH book, tier 2 only the novellas book, etc, some tiers might offer a bundle of 2 or more books with or without the journal, a tier will probably offer you the chance to get all the books. Of course, price increases or decreases with what tier you decide to pledge to, and you'll only receive the products from the tier you selected.

It is unclear whether any of this material will be released online/as e-books, either as prizes for the Kickstarter or later on. For now Cassie has only said the prizes will be the 4 physical book options + a journal with art from Charlie Bowater.

It is also unclear so far if any of the books will be available to be bought after the Kickstarter ends, again, because Cassie isn't doing this with the backing of her publisher, so it's unclear whether she will be able to get them printed through them afterwards or through a different press or anything. Based on how these projects go, sometimes the crowdfunding does pay for continuous printing, sometimes not. So if you do want to guarantee your copies, for now the best choice is really to back up the Kickstarter!

She sent all the info on her newsletter which I'll copy and paste below the read more not to crowd the dash too much, but the project seems very interesting and gorgeous and I can't waaaait for it to go live!
