Hello there.
[Slides elegantly into the tags]
Do you ever think about Emotion?
Of course you do. How could you not. But do you ever think about this exchange specifically:
Tumblr media
“You’re not Adrien!”
Because Adrien is sweet, and forgiving, and kind. In fact, kindness is his defining quality — Marinette herself made sure of it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’ll never tell another boy I love him before I know everything about him! Whether he’s kind or not, thoughtful, what he does outside of school and with who… I’ll know everything.”
But.
Do you ever think about Adrien’s development in S4 and especially S5?
Overtime, he has grown resentful of a system that exploits him relentlessly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of the people he gave countless chances to, only to be let down over and over again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of the web of lies and half-truths he constantly finds himself tangled into. A web that is only growing bigger, stickier, and trickier to escape.
Tumblr media
And the Senticousins. Do you ever think about them?
Tumblr media
Do you ever think about how they are each other’s reflection, identical and opposites all at once?
Tumblr media
“When you bring a living being into this world, you have a responsibility towards them. Your duty is to protect them, love them, help them discover the true meaning of their existence. To deprive them of that… is monstruous.”
Tumblr media
“To have a child is to help them blossom, to grow, to find themselves and to be free!”
Do you ever think about their opposite character arcs in S5 — one learning mercy and trust, the other developing a rage so strong it could destroy the world?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you ever think that if Felix can now have this exchange with his mum, and mean it:
Tumblr media
“They’re all monsters!”
“Not all of them.”
Then there’s nothing stopping Adrien from saying this:
Tumblr media
“Look closer, Marinette. They’re the monsters.”

Random AU Moment #25: Shame
*After a particularly disastrous accident that ruins a delicious homemade dinner for 20 people* Nathalie:*gets off the phone* Okay, the pizza should arrive around 19:30. Emilie: Well, that shouldn't be too long... Where's Marinette? Alya: Wallowing in the corner in shame. Emilie: Oh, come now. It was just a little fumble. Felix: Yeah, a fumble that pulled the tablecloth and sent dinner flying. Kagami:*elbows him* Felix! Emilie: Still, everyone trips up now and then. How embarrassed could she be? *everyone looks over to see Marinette curled up in the corner, wearing a paper bag that reads "SHAME!" on the front while being comforted by Adrien and her parents.* Emilie: Oh... Oh, dear... Amelie: Add some extra toppings on her sundae for dessert? Emilie: Agreed.

natalie ships are so funny to me, like stop fucking adriens family.
They’re all so fucking funny. Girl is out here pulling all the Graham de Vanilys and Agrestes. I can’t decide if she was just a third for Gabe and Emelie or if she rebounded with Gabe after Emelie and then rebounded with Amelie after Gabe. Either way it’s gold. Adrien is chill with it though.

I never really noticed this before (mostly because I haven’t rewatched this episode) but the color here is crazy.
Emilie (or Kagami representing Emilie) is in a blue room with Paris being orange. And Amelie (or Felix representing Amelie) is in an orange room and London is blue.
Now upon first glance, you feel more the temperature of the colors, and storytelling wise, the colors would seem to convey Emelie in a cold environment, despite marrying for love, and Amelie in a warm enviroment, despite knowing it was arranged and he was abusive. It’s poetically different. And slightly strange, as their environments tells us a different story.
But then I thought about it a different way. Emelie was an adventurer. She wanted to travel and see the WORLD. Amelie gave up everything for her FAMILY and being the heiress.
My eyes are quite quickly drawn to things in light contrasting the darker colder blue. Bringing things into focus. Emelies focus lies outside of her home at the WORLD, at Paris, the city of love. As if she still longs for adventure and is trapped inside. And Amelie’s focus lies inside with her FAMILY that she gives everything for, no matter how hard it is or what abuse she may have to face.
The windows have a story as well. As Emelies window is smaller and thinner, with less space between the bars. We know Adrien’s deepest fear is being contained and locked away. Maybe he shared that with his mother. But Amelie’s (like Adrien’s) window is big. Giving a sense of freedom. Perhaps, that freedom was allotted, or just an illusion for more control.
I think this can give interesting depth into these characters, and subsequently, the children they made. And why they made the discussions they did, such as Amelie’s devotion to her son despite not fully understanding. Or perhaps, some secrets of the Agreste household, where things never seem to be what you think.

Question is...amilie normal in tweos? Emilie got the boy mom thing going on and Gabriel is a greedy capitalist
Yes!
Tumblr media
Colt and Amelie are freakishly normal, if only to contrast the fact that Felix will be the second coming of Draco Malfoy with added cain instinct. (Colt is alive, given by a small tidbit in Ch53 where Gabriel asks to speak to the founder of Fathom Enterprises directly.) They loved and doted on their son a normal and healthy amount, but Felix is evil anyways as well as immensely jealous that Adrien gets to be the famous one. To contrast Adrien further, Felix basically succeeds in every area Adrien fails—mostly when it comes to being a classist stuck-up little prick. And he likes horseback riding and billiards, the pompous fuck.

I mean, Adrien was as made the "perfect heir". Given that the GdV's only characterization in the show has been a desire for that it makes sense that they'd want to claim Adrien as theirs. Bonus points if they know his nature and want him specifically because they could control him in a way that they never could Emilie.
(Special shoutout to Emilie for making sure the child she had came with a remote control and raising in him in a controlled environment with only friends that she and Gabe chose in spite of having rebelled against her own parents for similar constraints BTW.)
Between Amelie, Felix and Adrien; the perfect boy stands out as just what an ancient aristocratic family would want to be their inheritor.
Of course, I was going to say that Adrien probably wouldn't want to really be part of their family given how they treated his mother... but given that no one's told him anything: he might just accept them with open arms to get more family.
(Oh look another easily avoidable problem/complication caused by the needless exclusion of Adrien from secrets that involve him. I wonder if this is going to be a pattern for next season?)
Thinking how Adrien grandparents are to appear on S6 assuming they are the Vanily what if they try to take Adrien (maybe Felix also) away with them. They always yearn for a boy and seeing that Adrien has no parents they could try to take advantage of that. Also if Nathalie is legally Adrien guardian they could also take advantage of that as she is not blood related.
I don't think they'd have any claim to Felix, since his mom's still around. But they'd have a decent claim to Adrien, it's definitely arguable whether an aunt or a pair of grandparents have a stronger claim. And they DEFINITELY have a stronger claim than Nathalie, who isn't connected to Adrien through blood or marriage.

If you’re up for it, could you talk a bit more about Felix in the la terreur au? I saw that comic of Colt shooting him in the head (and not dying bc senti shenanigans), and that makes me want to know more about how he grew up and what else Colt did with him (and what Amelie’s role has been in all of that). Love what you do, thanks! 💙🦚
Oh boy !! I think Felix is one of my favorite characters from canon.
He's extremely competent, right ? He has all these grand plans that he does go through with, unfortunately the plans all have stupid goals. Not only that, but he can't seem to think long term. (confronting Gabe during the same episode he learns he's keeping his aunt's body in the basement, the diamond ball episode, his whole relationship with Kagami...) He has this childish recklessness I find really endearing.
We're pushing all those things a little further in LT !
Felix grows up isolated in a big, big house, he learns quickly that no one that can will help him. Amelie's in the same boat. His grandparents are fully aware of Colt's behavior and refuse to step in. Emilie's oblivious. Gabriel is Gabriel.
So he learns to rely on himself.
Colt is not a good person. He's selfish, and he's jealous, and he's set in his ways, and he's a war profiteer. And now he has a magic baby of dubious origins.
He can't get past the fact Felix is not a normal baby. The first few years go smoothly enough. The baby is fussy but manageable. Something for Amelie to do. Then Colts starts gets sick. It's like a cold initially, but he never gets better.
He tries to raise a real man. Drills and old fashion discipline. His mom whines about it, but it's what he needs. He's "beating the devil out of him." Colt keeps getting worse. Amelie's head is everywhere but here. She's calmer. She's stealing his Codamol, but he doesn't bring it up. Anything to get her to shut up.
He's dying ! He's dying, and he's scared, and he's a profoundly religious man, he's sure this fucking thing he created is siphoning his life forces. That's what he gets for messing with the devil. He blames everyone but himself. He mostly takes it out on Felix. From that point on, it's constant orders. Do this, don't do that, do it this way or that way. He's using that ring like his life depends on it. Does it ?
This thing cannot die. He tries to get rid of it 3 times and no matter what it gets back up.
He's dying, and his mind is going with it. This thing is a monster. His brother-in-law is a monster. His wife is a monster. Everyone is a monster. He's dying and it's their fault.

About your Angel Layer au, what's Adrien backstory and relationship with characters like Chloe, Marinette, Nino, and his father? Why he hides his identity until becoming champion? And Adrien's father role in this story.
Also how can someone hide their identity while playing the game?
Like this!
Tumblr media
(and since I'm still in Making Changes phase, add Marinette into this group).
Tumblr media
Chapter 2 will be from Adrien's POV and will explain his backstory, but in summary, his parents Rich Kids Club has been remade into an International Angelic Layer Development Club. So that's Tomoe, Amelie, Emilie, Gabriel, Andre, and Aubrey all personally invested.
I don't know how familiar people are with the Angelic Layer anime in particular, but in it they gave the main character Misaki's mother a disability that actually was made *worse* by her pushing herself to play that game. So, I'm making it that Emilie's dedication to making the game better made her already deteriorating health worse.
Yep, Angelic Layer killed Adrien's mom (lol).
So naturally in Gabriel Agreste fashion he takes this super well...and bans the game from his home, locks up anything related to the game in the basement, cuts off all their friends and family for being involved in it's development, and forbids Adrien from ever touching the game.
That means he's childhood friends with both Chloe AND Kagami and Felix (which makes more sense to me), but that friendship was cut off around 9 years old. Chloe definitely tried to force her way in anyway but Adrien hasn't had real contact beyond VIPS events that Gabriel couldn't reasonably turn down.
As for Nino and Alya and Marinette, he'll meet them within the comic!

Adrien hair dump!
Also some context for the last one: Adrien has a "sneaking out disguise" (the first row hair) that's just a dark brown wig, brown eye contacts and no makeup and he actually meets Marinette for the first time like this. She doesn't know it's her and Adrien's first meeting, she thinks he's a warehouse helper named Darien, and she later believes him to be Chat Noir's civilian identity, which is why she calls him that in that picture.
Anyways, some more blabberings under the cut:
- With Amelie and Felix's help too, Adrien has a go-to civilian disguise for when he's out and about. (it's mostly him NOT putting on makeup, reverse makeover if you will) For this reason, Inheritance!Adrien is a lot more acclimated to going out and having interests. He acts a lot like Chat when in this disguise as well- but just slightly less unhinged
- He sometimes parades as a storeroom assistant for the biggest Agreste warehouse/workshop, and this is how he meets Marinette for the first time. She's also the reason he began to ask to go to public school that following year
- He's a natural brunet, he started dying it blond when “Gabriel” began to put him into modeling. “Gabriel” was against it at first, but Adrien spun it for the company's favor and got him to stop fussing about it
- any resemblence to anything is accidental, "Darien" was made a while ago and was low-key based on fanon Plagg designs from like 2016 off my memory 😅
- Marinette and Chat hang out while he's in his "civilian" form quite a lot, and Tom ships them
- the glasses are cosmetic, it's for sentimental reasons
- annula disclaimer that I am going to pout an obnoxious amount of marichat outta this au 😌👍

It’s Felix.
Felix, the theatre kid, who got his dreams crushed again and again by a cruel father
Tumblr media
Felix, who is so desperate to find his kind, and saw a bit of himself in his aunt — the rebel child who actually made it out
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Felix, who persevered because if she was able to leave and follow her dreams, then maybe — just maybe — there was the slightest chance for him to do the same
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Felix, who was so distraught when he found her in the crypt — trapped inside her own body like he is in his, after all the efforts she deployed to gain her freedom
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Felix, who despite learning Emilie was responsible for violating her own sister’s bodily autonomy and bringing him into an abusive household, still holds so much tenderness for her
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You better believe this child watched every single obscure movie and five-second-long commercial she was ever featured in. Even if she was just a nameless extra, even if the camera only caught a glimpse of her back while focusing on the leads.
He, too, wants to be seen.
I just remembered that Emilie is an actress, and in my AU, I tend to make her a bit more well-known. So that begs the question: Who, among Adrien's friends, would be her biggest fan? Who would have posters of her in their bedroom, watch all her movies, and would be begging Adrien to get them her autograph?

Love what you're doing!!! Is there anything about Marinette's and Adrien's family? Pics or just some more info about them? (I'm also kinda guessing that Julia is supposed to be Manon's replacement?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mod CN- So first thing's first, Manon isn't getting replaced! Marinette just has a younger sister now! But Julia and Manon are best friends.
But we did design the whole family! In fact, we designed literally every single character in the show, we just haven't shown them yet!
But for the Dupain-Chengs, we gave Marinette a younger sister b/c we felt like Mathias and Lucy would be the type of couple to have two children, by personal preference and the culture Lucy grew up in.
Mathias and Lucy haven't changed up much personality-wise in Metamorphosis, but Mathias is now a little bit more over-protective, based off of his characterization in the movie.
Lucy's side of the family is much more involved in the story now! Zhihao, Marinette's great-uncle, would be moving in to Paris to start a new restaurant there, and we plan to have several episodes focusing on giving Shu-Yin a character! We're still designing Marinette's maternal grandparents, but we have plans to give them a semi-big role in season 4!
Also, we're still working on this, but we plan to bring in some family angst, focusing on how Gina isn't spending a lot of time with her family. Making her a good person, just overall acknowledging her flaws more. As well as a deceased bigoted grandfather who still gives Mathias and Lucy trouble, even after he's long gone.
Mod LB- As for the Lachances... let's start with the elephant in the room.
As we have addressed in many posts, Gabriel is NOT the butterfly holder in this universe, neither is Nathalie for the peacock.
Despite this, Gabriel is still going to be the cause of MANY problems.
We're leaning on the idea that Gabriel is more superstitious in this rewrite, he believes in something called "The Lachance Luck." Which he believes is the root that leads to all the misfortunes the family had experienced over the years.
Also, in case you're wondering where Adrien's Bodyguard/Gorilla/Placide I.T. is, he's Major Daume now! Based off of his original conceptual design found here. We plan for Daume to be more of the fatherly figure to Adrien, allowing him to sneak around and find loopholes to give the kid more freedom. He also learns of Adrien's identity mid-season 1, and keeps it a secret, even from Adrien. He prefers to wait for Adrien to open up on his own.
Nathalie is toned down a little from the series, no longer an explorer hired by Tomoe or whatever, she's just a stoic secretary who eventually becomes more motherly to Adrien and Felix.
Amelie actually moves in with the Lachances after the death of Colt Fathom. She's still the same as she was in the series, although she butts heads with her brother-in-law frequently over his parenting skills.
As for the deceased... Emilie is, no questions asked, no ambiguity, just outright dead. A woman who haunts the narrative, and drives most of Gabriel's actions posthumously. But we still plan to give her a character, and a LOT of flaws, so she isn't going to be a fridged wife.
Oh also colt fathom isn't an abusive asshole, or that important. Just some yankee-doodle-dandy who kicked the bucket. But his death did impact who Felix is as a character, making him grow up too fast and learn to be more responsible for his grieving mother and family.

I just thought about something. Amelie once said Felix and Adrien tricked Gabriel and Emilie for a whole weekend. I wonder, did The Agrestes agree to let Felix stay over for a while or do you think Adrien might have had to suffer a night with Colt?
For the longest time I thought that happened on the Graham de Vanily estate, while they were all trapped together for the holidays or something similar — but we’ve learnt from Werepapas that couldn’t have been the case!
For Adrien’s sake, I hope it happened while Felix/the Fathoms were staying in Paris and that he wasn’t trapped alone with Colt for an entire weekend, but that’s definitely a possibility. I’ve seen a few different posts theorising that this particular weekend is why Adrien appeared to be so afraid of Marinette’s sheriff/cowboy sketch in Psycomedian… and I mean, just look at the way he flinches here (00:35-01:07):
youtube
He seems genuinely scared of Marinette in that instant, which otherwise never happens. So it stands to reason that the problem isn’t her, but this particular act — which is eerily similar to the way Colt is portrayed in Representation. I don’t think Colt actually walked around dressed like that, mind you, but the cousins may have been caricaturing him since they were very little. Of course, there’s always the possibility that Adrien simply witnessed Colt’s treatment of Felix, and that was enough to leave scars.
If that worst case scenario did happen, then Amelie’s retelling and forced laughter is a little weird? But we know this petulant exterior of hers is all an act. She was very likely trying to make Gabriel mad on purpose, and bringing back memories of how Colt laid his hands on his son would accomplish just that.
There’s also the possibility that while Felix tricked Gabriel and Emilie for an entire weekend, Colt found out about Adrien immediately — especially if he failed to follow amok orders — and didn’t do anything to him. Which would make for some insane Senticousins angst upon their reunion (of course Felix wouldn’t want Adrien to be hurt, but it would probably reinforce the idea that there’s something wrong with him).
It’s always a little hard to analyse Felix (the episode) due to the inconsistencies in characterisation compared to later seasons (I don’t mean this in a salty way at all — I simply think the writers hadn’t fully figured out what they wanted to do with Amelie and especially Felix then, and had to course-correct from S4 onward). But Adrien being collateral damage of Colt’s abuse, in one way or another, is very likely. Maybe he himself isn’t sure why he reacted the way he did…
I actually have some fic recs on this concept, so here you go:
no one listens to the dead by @bittersweetresilience
It Was Never That Funny by @cookiedough77
There are probably more I’m not thinking about right now, but I hope you’ll enjoy these! 💚💜
EDIT: OK I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING ELSE. What if Adrien tried to do what Felix did in Risk — stand up to his father for him? What if that’s how he convinced Felix to let him leave with Colt and it went horribly wrong? Can you imagine the guilt on both sides?
