Kobylu Week Day 1: Roleswap

LAST FEW MINUTES OF THE DAY SHUSSSSH

Okay silly lore I thought of since I'm free now-

The only ones swapped are Koby and Luffy, and I also adore the Rocks D. Koby AUs so of course I alluded to that lmao, and basically Luffy is just the most unhinged Marine you've ever fucking seen 💀

Rumor that Xebec had a descendant got out a while before Koby was born, around the time Roger was executed. Koby was soon involuntarily abandoned after he was born, since his parents got found out and killed by Marines. He was taken into the care of a communication line of fishermen, who found out Koby's bloodline pretty quickly, but decided to keep it a secret. He was passed island to island to keep his existence a secret (oh hey sorta like Luffy lol), but he was still kidnapped by Alvida at 14. However, Koby was aware of his lineage and was already trained in how to defend himself, and he managed to escape only after a few weeks, albeit badly injured. By pure coincidence, he ran into Red-Haired Shanks, who decided to give Koby some medical attention before dropping him off someplace. In the time they knew each other, Shanks decided to give Koby -instead of his whole hat- the red ribbon attached to his strawhat to Koby. Koby still wears the ribbon as a bandana to this day.

Luffy never met Shanks in this AU, and Garp drilled Marine ideology into his grandson's head harsher than ever, but it of course didn't stick right, and Luffy interprets it in bizarre ways. Luffy is still extremely motivated to find the One Piece, but not to become the King of the Pirates. He just wants to out of spite and boredom.

Luffy and Koby met during the timeskip, about a year after Ace had been wrongly executed. In that time, Koby had become a prominant pirate from both his name and his grandfather's. People assumed he was after the One Piece as well, and they weren't wrong, but Koby's real reason to find the One Piece was to end the era of pirates, not to become King. Luffy had been on a sort of off-site probation after he tried publicly saving Ace (to keep him out of the public's eye/to forcefully make him cool down/to make people believe he was dead), and ran into Koby. Luffy was briefed who Koby was, but couldn't care less, and became good friends with him extremely quickly.

Up late at night thinking about Marineford possibilities with Determination and honestly I could see it as instead of Ace getting captured its the reader and just chaos ensues of every pirate imaginable banding together to save them 😭

Honestly that could be a very interesting diversion (I don’t have that planned sadly but I could make something similar)

But if that happened you can best bet the world government would be fucked over immediately due to the fact their god damn warlords and emperors are not happy with this. It’s one thing to have Whitebeard going up against you but it’s another when you got Him, Big Mom, Shanks and motherfucking Kaido rolling up to your doorstep with their angry crew along with just about every other Damn pirate on the sea.

What’s even worse tho is that some literal marines aren’t happy with it. Garp is basically in the position he’s in during marineford where it’s duty over family plus Sengoku is now there are well. Smoker, Tashigi and Koby would probably debate whether or not this is truly justice capturing and trying to make a kid who’s essentially been tortured both mentally and physically to hell and back for over several decades by several things done by marines to join them/become a asset for them. Then there are a few other big name marines who are either conflicted about this entire situation due to prior meetings with y/n or ecstatic about the situation, seeing it as them finally taking y/n away from the horrible pirates that have been trying to corrupt them with their evil ideals. That now the marines will help them In making a new world…..one free of pirates (guess who this one is? Hint: lava and donuts)

EPISODE: 1114

You and koby are surrounded by pirates. You got shot on your arm. "This is... too many... plus, this shackle... isn't there any way to survive?" Koby thought.

"This is it, (Y/N)! Hand over koby!"

"I'll be taking that bounty!"

"Fire!"

They're about to shoot you. koby, grab your waist and pull you up to get away from the bullet, but no. The pirates shoot you up high, but all of a sudden, the bullet turns to flowers.

"What the fuck?!" You said, the pirates were so shock, "what? What? What? It's beautiful! Wait, no! What the hell is this?!" They shout. "Why did a flower come out of the muzzle?!"

It is revealed that Hibari used one of Vegapunk's inventions, Flower Bullets, to transform the bounty hunters' gunpowder into flowers. "(Y/N)! Koby!" You and koby turn around to see.

"Get over here! Wait, no! I didn't. I didn't mean anything weird!" Said Hibari, "Hibari! Right at time! You did that?!" You said, asking about the flower.

"That's right! I shot flower bullets, the flowers that bloom out of gunpowder! The enemies can't use their weapons! Get away quickly while you can!" She said.

On the rooftop, Prince picks up the call from tashigi, "Prince! Any progress?" Tashigi called. "Yeah, our task has just been completed. (Y/N) has koby safely, too!" He says.

"My mud puppets are not so easy to take down. I'll keep them busy fighting out there. The pirates can't get anywhere near the open area."

"What are these bastard?!" One of pirate shots, "and... they can't escape from there, either!" Said Prince. "H-hey... Has this open area always been shaped like this?"

The pirates watch the building move on their own, realizing they're trapped. All because kujaku, devil fruit power. "See, you can do it if you try. Now, whenever you're ready!" She said.

"I was able to contact Prince! It's all ready! Vice admiral grap!" Said tashigi, grap smile. "Come to the dead center!" Prince shouts, "everyone, hang onto something!" Said Helmeppo.

"Charge!" Grap said, he launches his ship into the air with his fist, then rides the ship onto the island. "C'mon! Hurry up!" Said Hibari, koby was about to climb the ladder but stopped.

"(Y/N), they're come to rescue me, didn't they?" He ask, you're so confused, "yes, of course! They did! Didn't I tell you?!" You shout. "Ah! Sorry!" He says, and koby was about to cry.

"Okay! Let's get out of here!" He said, then koby turned around to see the group of pirates seem terrified. "Look up!" They shout, koby look up and was wide eye.

You smile, "took these bastard long enough." Of grap ship flying. "What?!" Koby shout, so as the pirate.

"A naval ship is flying up there!"

"Why?! How's that possible?!"

"Who's on it?!"

"Isn't it... falling towards us?"

"R-run!" They scream, "wait! Koby!" You said chasing Koby as he ran to the ship. "No way! I thought he retired!" Grap laugh.

"Koby! I'm here to save you!" He said the pirates try to run, but they couldn't. The building blocks all open areas. "Hey, you damn pirates!" Grap yelled.

"He's coming! Run!" Grap, jump on the air, making a fist, and he laughs. "Vice admiral grap... why?! I'm not worthy enough to save..." said koby, that makes you pissed.

"You fools! Who do you think you have kidnapped?!" Garp shout, his fist glows brightly, making everyone scared for their lives. "Koby is the future of the navy! And... he's also my beloved pupi!" He said, making Koby almost cry.

"Galaxy... impact!" Grap, make a big explosion, making the building break. The pirates fly up in the air, and you grab koby tight as you two fly up high.

You landed safety. "Geez... does he ever know he'll get us killed?!" You said he almost killed you two. Grap landed safety with his ship.

"If we don't run, it'll crash into us!" You and koby were shocked to see, "Why did he come to beehive?!" Said koby. Prince uses his devil fruit power to catch grap ship, "cumulo-glorpus!" The mud catches the ship. Pirates were all passed out.

"He destroyed the town with a single blow..." said koby, "he still does that crazy stuff." said Hibari. "No wonder he just like luffy," you said, "damn grap! He's insane!"

"I'll make that geezer pay!"

"Don't move, you pirates!" Said Helmeppo, with the group of navy aimed their gun. "Just obey us! Resistance will result in further damage! Put your weapons down!" He shouted.

"I'm not satisfied... I'm off my game." Said garp, "screw you! What's that I-could-do-better attitude after causing this much destruction?!"

"We can't take any more damage!"

"Vice admiral garp!" Garp, turn to see you, koby, and Hibari running. "Oh, koby! (Y/N), thank you for saving koby!" He said, "well it no biggie. We did go to trouble!" You said, smiling.

Then Helmeppo see koby, "koby, that fool... I'm so relieved! He didn't get killed! Thank you, (Y/N)!" Helmeppo cried. "Koby-kun, I'm glad that you're okay. Goowork, everyone. " Said tashigi.

"Geez... he overlooked it. Garp is a bad boy!" Said kujaku, "garp-san said koby's the future of the navy. It's unforgivable! I'll drag him down!" Said Prince.

"You've got to do those things in secret. You spoiled brat! So cute. Koby is so lucky to have a sexy woman." Said kujaku, "hey! Koby!" Koby, look at the ship to see the navy soldiers yelling his name.

"Everyone!" He said, then he saw tashigi and Helmeppo, who was crying. "Koby-kun! Come on! Let's go home!" She said, "Helmeppo-san! Tashigi-san! Even those who are not SWORD members.."

"Everyone likes you, koby!" Said Hibari, then garp noticed koby Chain on his leg. "Why are you carrying that, koby? Looks like it's hard to run with it." He said.

"Vice admiral garp! We can't get the shackle removed... and we didn't know what to do! Please... do... some... thin'..." Hibari was frozen in ice. You were shocked to see, and you know who it is.

"Hibari!"

"Hibari-san!" You catch Hibari with your shadows abilities, even though you badly wounded. Everyone was surprised. Garp, look at kuzan with a glare.

"You fools... what do you think you have done?" He said, "kuzan." Said garp. "Kuzan-san! What are you doing?! Thaw out Hibari-san!" Koby shout.

"He's aokiji!"

"Captain kuzan!" The pirates cheered, "Kuzan-san! I'm begging you!" Koby beg, "it no use." Said grap. "Don't get me into trouble, koby. I can't have you running off... while Teach is away." Said kuzan.

After losing a duel against Sakazuki for the position of Marine Fleet Admiral, Kuzan resigned from the Marines as he was unwilling to serve under him. Shortly after resigning, he encountered Blackbeard Pirates on an island in the New World and battled them, ultimately encasing many of them in ice.

When Blackbeard appeared with his captains, he immediately recognized and confronted Kuzan.

I know it's supposed to be part of the theme of "blood family doesn't have to be your only family" but Garp just putting his life on the line for a kid he knew for 2 years and NOT for his the one he PROMISED a dying man to protect just because Koby wanted to be a marine is just 🗻🌋🔥🔥🔥🔥

LITERALLYYYY like there are people who go "Garp has learned from his mistakes by saving Koby"

no the fuck he hasn't!! those are two completely different situations! Garp sees Koby as WORTH saving because he sees Koby as beneficial to the MARINES.

The MARINES. SPECIFICALLY.

Garp wants change, but he only wants change in a system HE agrees with and has deemed is WORTH the change. It's why he keeps trying to recruit young people to be marines, it's why he doesn't see the revolutionary army or the pirate age as positive change. He wants change in his own little box that he deems as SAFE change.

Ace wasn't part of that, Ace was a pirate who - he believed - purposefully defied him. Saving Koby did not redeem Garp at ALL for what he did to Ace, if anything it made me realised just how much of a closed minded boot licker Garp is and ESPECIALLY made me angry FOR Ace.

Sorry Ace! Your life just wasn't worth standing up for and saving according to Garp! Woops!

Ok I think I like the live action 😭 i was so ready to hate it but I honestly am having a good time relearning the characters in a different way!

They connect the crew together faster but they have more moments that really show why zoro and nami started to like Luffy which is nice not have to go through 50 episodes just to get a few plot points out of the way.

Koby!! My boy!! I was SO READY to diss on his character because in all honesty his character was whiny at the beginning (even in the anime too). BUT them introducing Garp early and allowing Garp to become a psueo parent to him is honestly so fucking cute 😭. They have a genuinely interesting relationship and its part of my favorite moments in the show 😭 Also the actor is doing a great job showing us how Koby grows more confident and sure of himself and its amazing!

Zoro i couldnt help but keep loving and Nami is so good! The actress that plays Nami is amazing!

I’m only on ep. 4 but a couple of gripes:

1. It a little 🤪 cringey. But in all honestly its kinda a given for a live action for an anime, some of the elements are going to come through but its just a little shocking to see live actors actually act out the fighting moves yell since we r so used to anime characters in a anime environment.

2. The characters that where HUGE in the anime are like meh. Not saying they werent great characters but its still disappointing to look at Arlong when he looks so normal size. A core element of what makes one piece so memberable is watching this tiny underdog go up against the biggest and the baddest and having the strength within to come on top all because of his determination and drive. Its just underwhelming some of the fights that are supposed to be so epic: biggest and baddest vs underdog rubberman! Who will win! I get that they probably tried their best with what they had but im allowed to complain a little i think.

3. There are MANY moments within the anime that was SO IMPORTANT! And it just gets… left out. Ok! I’m not saying that it has to be another series that is 1000 episodes long but in live action form but sometimes a scene is so powerful and to leave it out is not my cup of tea. For example im fine that they changed zoro eating the dirty rice balls in a different context. It worked in showing us that zoro is a good guy! But leaving out how Luffy got Koby in with the marines and how zoro, badly injured, tried to save luffy by carrying his cage showing us how loyal of a person zoro is bla blah blah. I think people will understand what im talking about if you watch/read the original source material.

The show is great to watch so far and brings a new spin on the characters without making them unrecognizable (cough* velma *cough). The actors are fantastic and the costumes are SO good. I’m loving them actually change clothes according to the new chapter they are on, i think they are inspired by the cover page art, its nicely paced and they do give a good representation of the anime/manga. And im glad im not hating it yet.

People accusing others of remaining neutral, impartial or not picking a side are saying that because One Piece is Anti-Genocide, the non-supporters deserve to be hated. But an important theme in One Piece is also that things sometimes aren't black and white.

Luffy has saved Smoker from drowning, is friends with Koby, genuinely likes Fujitora, and more. He's still capable of being friendly with them despite being Marines, whose organization serves the World Government, whose leaders have ordered and committed genocide. But because we have seen the experiences, actions or backstories of Smoker, Koby, Fujitora, Garp, Aokiji, etc. we the audience have determined that even if they're still part of the Marines, they have proven that, when truly needed, they're willing to disobey orders and do what is truly right. There are bad pirates and good marines, there are good pirates and bad marines.

Sensitive and serious problems like genocide are definitely black and white, you either support it or condemn it. But harrassing people for not doing enough, for not focusing on the problem enough, or for not doing a perfect contribution to a cause; I'm sorry, but that's not black and white anymore. People have a right to contribute in a matter that is reachable and possible for them, how can you know for sure they are not praying for the victims everyday from the privacy of their home? How can you know for sure they are not being indifferent to pain of the people? Have you thought that the reason some people can't donate much is because they are struggling to make meets end and support their families?

I was JUST talking to someone about how I myself (with 3 small kids, working from home at a job who's work load is very inconsistent, and a mountain of debt to my name) cannot donate at this time. No matter how much I want to, realistically, I simply can not right now. Does that mean I'm pro-genocide? Abso-fucking-lutely not. And this argument about neutrality is ridiculous. Some people may not like it, but neutrality is necessary when rendering aid to INNOCENT LIVES. The ones that never wanted to be a part of this. That hate what's going on. That only wanted to live a normal life but can't because of the violence around them.

I was 11 when 9/11 happened. I remember how a lot of people assumed people in and/or from the Middle East were terrorists or sided with terrorist ideals.

Flash forward to my time in community College where a good portion of the student body was Muslim and either from the Middle East or who's family was. I listened to their stories in 2011 during the 10 year anniversary. I listened to how heartbroken they were to witness what had happened in NY. They were proud Muslim but at no point condoned the radical ideas of ISIS and Bin Ladden and all that. Would they not deserve aid and support if it were needed?

According to Lafitte though the Man Marked by Flames sails a ship of pitch black, and may have a whirlpool fruit

Tbf yeah I wouldn't have put it past the WG to have had a Poneglyph to keep the One Piece out of reach, but Aokiji notes he never saw one to Shiryu

Lafitte made the mistake though of asking Teach in Kuzan's earshot whether they intend to take his fruit, so back on the icing

Teach however offers him to join

See, as bad as Blackbeard is, the way he sells thing seems much like how Luffy does it: just people with their agendas living how they feel, the difference mainly is the way people do things

Back in the present, Aokiji refuses Garp's demands to unfreeze Hibari and return to the marines

Aokiji questions if Garp can kill his first protege to save another

But Garp sends him into the ground again 'only weaklings lose their way'

Garp seems to have space-themed attack names, since this one was 'Blue hole'

I wouldn't say Kuzan is being 'weak' here though, even Garp resists the system they worked for, he's living on his own path now is all

With Aokiji in Fullalead too that means it's likely that Lafitte and/or Devon are in Egghead, but we have wrapped up the Winner's island incident.

Law losing was expected, him and Bepo getting away does mean that Law may play a role in Luffy's and Blackbeard's eventual clash. We will have to wonder further with Fullalead though if Koby escapes, I mean I don't think Kuzan can beat Garp but Shiryu, Vasco, and Pizarro haven't made a move (not to mention Moria and Perona haven't had a follow up), so until they get involved I can't say the ball is in SWORD's court. Perhaps like Law only some will escape, perhaps Koby, Helmeppo, Hibari and Tashigi get away while Garp, Grus and Kujaku are held (hero of marines, high ranking officer's granddaughter and a high ranking SWORD member).

With Aokiji I still feel like he's playing a bit of a long con, it's just that working with Blackbeard aligns with interest right now. The way Teach is with potential allies though shows the layers of the man, he's an asshole to Law and Luffy, villano numero uno, but to Aokiji he was a lot more palatable, reasonable and a little bit encouraging, the art of the salesman I suppose.

They didn't say a break next week, but Golden Week is approaching so we'll see if we'll follow up, I kinda expect us to go back to Egghead again but we very well may stick to Fullalead a little more, maybe Marejois with Kuma. Lot's of things are still happening, and a big incident in Egghead is still about to occur.

OKAY IM ACTUALLY GONNA POST MY OPINIONS ON THE NEW ONE PIECE

TLDR: VERY VERY VERY GOOD JUST FEW DISLIKES

SO first I'm gonna talk about what I didn't like so I can end with the good stuff, cause I do think it was really good! And I actually do hope for more! Also these are subject to change as I just watched all the eps and once with friends and we excitedly talked over quite a bit of it plus it was a bit of a blur

OKAY first problem I had was there didn't feel like there was a really good stand up moment for us usopp in syrup village arc, in the original he had that moment where he was getting torn to shreds literally brought to the brink of death, and he still kept standing up to defend Kaya and the village, and it didn't feel like he got that moment at all really, which was both strange and sad to me, plus with no Jango he didn't get to save the day at all (also mini add on, I agree with moon paws post, with merry dead it felt really weird to just leave Kaya on her own, especially since we didn't meet anyone else in the village like the kids)

The next thing is, well, while I actually liked a lot of the changes they made from the source material (especially in syrup village, despite my major complaint with it) a LOT of the changes made to Arlong Park I really didn't like. The village not knowing her secret, showing her fight with belimeir before literally any other part of their relationship, some of the Fishman stuff, and a few others I can't think of rn, idk I feel like this arc hurt the most from not getting enough time yknow? Like I really didn't feel the emotional impact I felt from originally reading and watching this arc (aqlso another mini add on is no hatchi which was surprising)

One neutral thing before we get into the good is tho there was a lot of fun and silliness, at times this felt like a gritty reboot with the gore and killing and cutting of comic relief characters, part of that I liked and part I didn't, and I know it comes from not having enough time and not having as much suspension of disbelief to play with with it being live action

OKAY NOW TO GUSH ABOUT THE GOOD!!! First is the AMAZING fucking sets and costumes and casting!!! All of the places felt unique and true to their source, the world felt amazing and colorful, with the only thing I can compare it to being speed racer live action movie (tho it wasn't quite that colorful), the costumes were all so fun to see the characters in, and all the actors did so well! I think just about every character we all had a moment where we went "wow [insert characters actor here] is SOO good!" All their interactions were so perfect too! Ugh! Amazing!

And this is rare but most of the changes to the source material I actually really enjoyed! All the added stuff with garp and koby and helmepo was really really good character work, and good showing of the navy system and values and the worldview of the individuals within it. The changes to sanjis character I actually really liked, where he's a bit warmer, and not a sex pest but just more a sap I thought was done really well, along with all the zoro sanji interaction. I thought a lot of the syrup village changes were really well done, as much as I like Jango the cat brothers actually worked really well, and I ADORED the interactions with the crew and Kaya and I fucking ate up the scene where they're getting chased around by Kuro. I'm sad the kreig pirates got phased out but I did enjoy their fight with Hawkeye a lot, and I understand why they did what they did. All the changes to the characters also felt natural and they still felt like themselves yknow? OH ALSO all the buggy stuff was so good!!! Having his head along was so perfect and fun! It was just amazing, amazing show everyone involved should be proud!!

for realsy tho i dont understand how any relatively high ranking marine can possibly think theyre the good guys when they serve the celestial 'slaves r kool' dragons? especially someone like garp, like my man, you need to pick a side and fuckin commit. you had so many chances to save ur damn grandson, bur i guess protecting the rights of slavers is more important. sure there are bad pirates, but uhhhhhh the celestial dragons have them beat by far in rancid-ness. unquestionably. i cannot wrap my head around it.

This is whyyy I like Koby but he is extremely naive and I feel like that's on purpose, like Garp hasn't told him the nitty gritty fucked up-ness of how the marines actually work. I need Koby to be truly confronted with just how corrupt this system he's serving under is, just like Smoker has - hence why Smoker is so jaded and angry at the marines and tends to outright ignore orders and help people in his own way LMAO
