People saying the tortured poets department is somehow tied to Joe because of ONE word that coincides with Joe friends groupchat , but dismissing queer analysis of Taylor lyrics based on queer history and references and parallels that Taylor has done herself is wild to me.

seeing this post circulating again and being reminded that being queer and liking a female artist, who is very possibly also queer simply by looking at all the flagging in her lyrics, is still seen as the most atrocious thing you can do. why can't they just keep their mouths shut? no instead they keep coming at us, a small group of people, a tiny fraction of all of her fans. they keep coming at us and telling us that we're disgusting and intrusive and they think because we have a different opinion than them it's okay to call us slurs. I'm so fucking sick of all of this. this is the reason why so many closeted artists and public figures won't come out, because they see how their fans are treated for simply saying "this person might be queer" about them.

Okay bare with me here because my thoughts are literally chaos right now! Going to try and take you through the ninja katana that just happened to my brain!

1. Everyone has been focusing on this album being white. Taylor wore a white dress, Taylor used the 🤍, etc etc

This has been bothering my photographer mind since I very first saw the cover. That cover is not black and white. That cover is Sepia.

Rep is Black and white…..Folklore as well (though more muted and grey than stark black and white like Rep)

Poets is Sepia!

Now obviously there is no Sepia heart emoji so it could be that simple BUT Taylor is a mastermind and she doesn’t do accidents. The Sepia toned album cover is not white and that immediately drew attention to it when everyone is focused on the white aspects (which also lended itself nicely to the Rep TV/Poets bait and switch)

2. So I decided to go learn about the history of Sepia and quickly came across this very interesting article. I started reading. Immediately aspects of this colours history started setting off lightbulbs 💡

Sepia comes from the Cuttlefish’s defence mechanism. When under attack the cuttlefish releases a cloud of ink to distract the predator and make a swift (SWIFT!!) escape!?!?

Already we have the ink tie in specifically mentioning jet black (like the octopus and squid) but the cuttlefish’s defender cloud is sepia……this album is a defence mechanism so she can distract the predators (hetlors/the press) to make her escape to safety. It’s the bait and switch. The distraction. The decoy.

This was already enough to have my jaw on the floor…but wait! There’s more!

3. Sepia’s use in photography…

This love story began in black and white…in Reputation.

This cover photo is very clearly Daylight after the long and tortured Midnight….now she only sees Daylight!

Sepia has come to represent a by-gone age….

There’s also the very obvious photography connection with the Polaroids significance to Kaylor.

Another link to Daylight coming after Midnight…the opening of the Karma music video shows the Midnights album which turns into a golden sunlight over the golden Taylor statue. Midnight to Daylight.

Not trying to defend Gaylors cause swifties in general are fucked up but as a queer woman ( who kinda believes in it), we don’t just think she had something with Karlie Kloss because of delusion. Currently watching the Swiftologist reaction to the "Look what we made Taylor Swift do" article and I have to stop it and say something:

TAYLOR SWIFT HAS NOT STATED NOTHING IN THE MATTERS OF HER SEXUALITY

In the first few minutes he was already spreading missinformation, saying that Taylor has, in multiple times, said that she is straight. She has never done that. This really would not bother me so much if he did not went on about how gaylors use false information for our "conspiracy theories".

Excuse me, but queerflaging and queercoding is a thing that has been going on for as long as queer people have existed. One might think that being part of our community he would know that, but apparently, he does not. This is what queer people not knowing about the history of their own community does, this is why we need conversations about flagging and queerness to be open. We should be taught about it, it is part of human history after all, an important part of it. If you doubt it, just take a look at almost every important figure on history, they were most likely queer and it affected their life and how they shaped the world. Queerflagging is part of history, not a conspiracy theory.

Talking about conspiracy theories, we could say saying she is straight is as well a conspiracy theory if we are going to say gaylor is one. I mean, she has remained unlabled about her sexuality to the public, so is only fair to assume that she could be attracted to any gender as far as we know.

Gaylors dont claim to know Taylors sexual orientation. Hetlors are the one hyperfixated on her straightness and sexuality. Gaylor reads the work of Taylor Swift through queer lenses with the propouse of relating to her music in a deeper level. Hetlors claim she is straight even if she has not say that before and punish any other idea that diverse from that even if, as far as we know, that idea could be wrong.

If I could rate how stupid the hetsplanations are for maroon, it'd go like this:

Jake - this is the only semi-plausible one because of the obvious red to maroon justification.

Reason Why It's Stupid: Jake thinks Taylor is a dumb hick and owns a million dollar couch, no fucking shot he ever had a roommate first of all nor did that roommate ever buy cheap rose. get a damn grip.

Harry- this is willful homophobia, no fucking chance you legitimately believe she wrote this about that bland ass white boy with no lips.

Reason Why It's Stupid: the person she lost in new york was her roommate, if y'all knew how to analyze a basic poem you'd know the only reason for setting the first verse up as "How'd we end up on the floor anyway?/You say, "Your roommate's cheap-ass screw top Rosé", that's how/I see you every day now" is to imply the lover and her are roommates. First, the lover is saying TO taylor "your roommate's cheap-ass screw top rose" so taylor is the one with the roommate. Second, taylor immediately follows the LOVER'S response with "i see you every day now" implying she's the roommate and that's the lover's wine.

"Scarlet Lips Are Taylor's" - actually, this is willful homophobia. you could maybe excuse the harry one with ignorance on poem structure now that I'm thinking it through. How stupid are you to believe she's referring to her own lips?

Reason Why It's Stupid: the surface level reading of the chorus is that her lover has red lips. Wanting Taylor to refer to her own lips in this reading is at best willful ignorance and at worst blatant homophobia. Your only reasoning for why it MUST ONLY REFER TO TAYLOR'S LIPS boils down to "there's NO WAY she could be referring to a woman lover. She's CAN'T BE BECAUSE SHE'S NOT GAY." This is homophobic, bestie.
