NO. STOP.

"Separating the art from the artist" and "death of the author" does not mean what most people think it means, and i am so sick of people using this as an excuse for an artists horrible behaviour. Yes, i am looking at you, J.K Rowling and Till Lindemann (and so many more.)

"Death of the author" is a LITERARY THEORY that argues that the meaning of a piece of art is determined by the readers interpretation, not the authors intention. It is a TOOL used by LITERARY STUDIES to determine the meaning of a piece of art.

It is not a good argument in an everyday discussion about problematic authors. And it is certainly not an excuse for people to keep supporting artists (and art!) that are queerphobic, transphobic, anti-feminisitc, antisemitic and misogynistic.

And no, "separation of artist and art" is not a reason to ignore the problematic views of the author that are INHERENTLY INCOPORATED in the art.

DO NOT EVER use "death of the author" or "separate art from artist" as an excuse. It is not.

How long do we think it's gonna be till James Somerton turns right-wing grifter? The people he stole from will likely never see a single cent, but his career is fucked. Within a month, all he'll be left with is name recognition and the fact that a ton of leftists hate him. He could just take the money and run, but given what he was willing to do to get this far, I get the feeling he'd rather not lose his fame.

Let's look at Rowling for a moment. She had all the money she could ever hope to get from her books. She could have simply taken the money and settled down, but she didn't want to. She wanted relevance. Before she started hanging out with fascists though, she tried to become a celebrity of her idea of the left.

Remember those couple of years where she was constantly announcing random characters were gay? The obvious pandering to the left? The "at least one Jewish student at hogwarts"? The weirdly graphic description she gave of Dumbledore's gay sex life despite never even hinting at it in the books? Making Hermione black despite specifically writing her as white?

What I'm saying is, she tried to pander to the left and it failed because everyone could see it was pandering. So what did she do? She started pandering to the right. The right is fine with pandering as long as they're the ones being appealed to. And look at her now, we can't go a week without hearing about some fucked up thing she did, and the right loves her for it.

All of this is to say that Somerton is gonna have a realization that he's been grifting the wrong audience. His one honest trait is his hatred of women and that'll work perfectly for appealing to incels. Just watch as he spins this as the left turning on him and pushing him to the right. He's gonna join the Blair White school of being "one of the good ones"

Unpopular opinion: Harry Potter Legacy 🫣

I’m playing the fucking game… but I beg you to put your totally righteous high energy emotional response on pause for a millisecond and exercise some curiosity with me about why.

Every single thing is shit out here. The oceans are rising. The economy is always ready to collapse. Our US debit limit is capping or whatever. I know Trump waiting to throw some mess in the upcoming elections. I’m a black bisexual woman in lower middle class America. I fucking GET that J.K. Rowling is a classless tasteless Uber Villain of epic proportions who CANNOT keep her mouth shut…

But I have been waiting for this game since I was a stupid 13 year old child who thought an owl was going to crash into her bedroom.

HP taught me to love reading. These stories brought me joy in such dark sorrowful moments that children should not have to live through. These books taught me to be patient and to take my time. They gave me community and friendship.

I’ve been doing some inner child healing ❤️‍🩹 especially the wounds that surround 13 year old me. Which is why I’ve started LIVE streaming on Tumblr. This is the first platform that made me feel like I wasn’t totally alone in these HUGE EMOTIONS that were ripping me apart… so I’ve returned to heal and connect with others.

Healing 13 year old me includes playing this stupid fucking game.

SO, I GUESS the unpopular opinion is that this franchise, this fandom, these materials will and do continue to exist but we should let people fucking enjoy what they can because we’re all going to die and there is 0 chance we can ever get enough people to boycott for anything to matter. No minority was harmed with a game bro

I assume you're talking about Hogwarts Legacy, and in extension about the Harry Potter universe.

There are multiple topics to dig into on this one, but I'm gonna keep it short:

The game has Jewish-coded characters (goblins), including many dogwhistles and using shofar as "just a trinket that goblins used to annoy wizards", when shofar holds huge significance to Jewish people. You're basically suppressing a slave uprising as the main story of the game.

The main creator behind the game, the one who wrote the story itself, was a far right neon@zi. Even tho they kicked him off team, they didn't change the story.

The goblins are believed to steal children = blood libel.

You can own slaves (house elves) in the game.

The only trans character is named Sirona (like sir, y'know).

To expand more on why Harry Potter universe is harmful:

Werewolves are coded as gay people with AIDS. Lupin being the only responsible one.

Using Dumbledore being gay as a distraction from when the book sales started dropping because he wasn't this pure nice person.

Again, so much racism, including the names of the characters and stereotypization. And antisemitism.

So much sexism as well. Someone tell me why Tonks didn't stay this bright vibrant character and settled down to more conservative look.

Rowling recently said that she wrote Death Eaters as a symbol for LGBT community "pushing their agenda". The only agenda LGBT people push is wanting basic human rights.

Rowling actively promoting transphobia AND getting money off the game as well, using the money to then harm trans people. She stated that any purchase of anything from her she considers as an agreement with her bigotry.

And yes, I realize this wasn't in good faith, but maybe someone reads it and changes their opinion anyways.

I never thought about HOW brave Hermione had to be when she fought Bellatrix in the battle of Hogwarts. Not only because Bellatrix was one of the most Powerful and evil Witches of her time who had no issue with killing her any moment, but also that's the woman who tortured her at most a month earlier and has left a racial slur written in her skin. She must've been so incredibly scared and she still did it.

All of this counts for Luna too, which had been imprisoned in Malfoy Manor for about half a year before being freed so it's not impossible that Bellatrix tortured her too.

Both of them must've been deeply emotionally scared and they still fought her. They are incredibly brave and also very traumatized.

Since my two biggest posts have been about fnaf, I think it needs to be said: If you support Scott Cawthon and his political beliefs, you are not welcome on my blog. He regularly donates to racist and anti-queer politicians. As a side note, my beliefs are the same with JK Rowling. I don't care about your opinions on fnaf or Harry Potter, but it's important to know where your money is going. I try to make sure as little of my money gets to Scott Cawthon or JK Rowling as possible, even though I like fnaf and regularly interact with the community. I believe it's possible to enjoy the fandom without supporting the one pasty dungeon dweller who had a stroke of luck at their writing desk.
