So to sum up WotC's latest fuckup concerning their new giant themed book
Back during the creator's summit, WotC said this about LLM images
Tumblr media
Now more recently, WotC was caught using blatantly LLM images for their new book, along with some category 10 classical Gygax racism and genocide endorsement
Tumblr media
As outraged fans investigated, similarities were noticed between earlier concept art, which WAS done by real artists, and the LLM images
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now April Prime was only credited as a concept artist in the book (and not credited at all in that post), so what happened?
Enter Ilya Shkipin: an NFT shill, LLM enthusiast and overall waste of flesh. Ilya took credit for these LLM images, which as you've probably guessed now, were concept art that he stole from concept artists like April, ran through his plagiarism bots and claimed was his own work.
Now, you would think that WotC would admit their error and drop Ilya for this blatant theft of art and credit
And you'd be wrong
Tumblr media
WotC not only refused to name or punish Ilya, but they're continuing to work with him and simply having him redo the LLM images he turned in for future printings of the book.
Sounds horrible enough? Here's the bonus round: CATEGORY 10 CLASSIC GYGAX RACISM AND GENOCIDE ENDORSEMENT
Tumblr media
Yes, that is a group of people being referred to as an "infestation" to be exterminated. And you have to make sure you ethically put them all to the sword, lest they rise as an icy mummy called a Frostmourn. If the name Frostmourn sounds familiar, that's because it's one letter off from the World of Warcraft sword: Frostmourne. A difference small enough for ActiBlizzard, one of the few game companies worse than WotC at this point, to turn angry copyright lawyers loose in their direction.
And that about sums the whole clusterfuck up. Remember to drop 5e and pick up a ttrpg that doesn't suck, such as Pathfinder, Savage Worlds or Fate: Core

WOTC shit the bed (again(again(again))),
because they can't help but commission AI art, which is now apparently being reworked because - rightly - everyone is very pissed about it.
so I made this, I have a feeling we'll get a lot of use out of it:

This shit is so fucking exhausting. This is what I mean when I talk about the damage done to the TTRPG scene by Wizards of the Coast. This is why I'd rather explain what I work on to my completely uninformed boss than to a person whose sole exposure is D&D.
I'm so fucking tired.

if we’re talking ttrpg alternatives cuz of wotc bs i’m never ever going to stop recommending the kids on bikes family
Tumblr media
kids on bikes setting is very 1980s kids investigating strange town things (think stranger things! et!!) and is such an easy to learn system and creates such wonderful storytelling opportunities. it’s my favorite rpg to run (i have a lot abt my kob campaign here lol) and i think is one of the best ttrpgs i have ever, ever played. you can play with super fun tropes like the nerdy kid or jock or popular kid and the prepared adventures are great!!
& teens in space and kids on brooms follow p much the same structure but w their own twists to fit the settings :] they’re great games!!
if you’re a d20 fan you’ll recognize kids on brooms is the system that misfits & magic uses, and if you want live action play of kids on bikes i cannot recommend kollok 1991 enough !!
like yanno if u want MORE options frm what a lot of ppl share
(also in a similar vein will plug tales from the loop, an alternative nuclear scandinavian set in the 80s-90s with the pcs also being kids/teens, with beautiful art from simon stålenhag!!)

If you've got a DnDBeyond subscription, canceling it is the fastest way to let Hasbro/WOTC know exactly where they can shove their new OGL
Hit them in the only place they care about: their income

Wow so this new dnd edition already has:
-A terrible VTT with video game monetization.
-People switching to pathfinder.
-Rules changes meant to fix the old system that just make it worse.
-OGL drama.
Can't wait for dnd 4.5th edition.

cannot get over the fact that WOTC hired the actual pinkertons
like not pinkertons, like in general. not just any old strikebreaking pigs-for-sale. the actual for real Allan J. Pinkerton’s National Detective Agency, with almost two centuries of workers’ blood on their hands
fuck Wizards, fuck them to high hell. stealing from them is the only acceptable way of playing DND

But who could have known a nice subsidiary of Hasbro would hire Pinkertons to bully their customers.... Surely this is out of character for them?

For those unaware, WotC is using AI generated images in their new Glory of the Giants supplement for 5e.
We're working on gathering the funds to commission art from real human artists for our work. You will never find AI generated content of any kind in a Sunbear Games product.
In other news, we're working on setting up a Patreon so that interested folks can get access to more of our work that doesn't always have a place in our main products, as well as more behind-the-scenes stuff on our design process. That, in turn, will help us commission artists.

Why yes my villain empire’s flag is an eight-pointed white shooting star bisecting a field that’s violet on top and azure beneath. That has absolutely no real world significance.
Tumblr media
Just like their soldiers using azure shields marked with a grinning maw in white has none.
