In this house we support Aberdeenshire Shortlisted Design B

Also I figured it out, when you see it moving Design E doesn't just look generically fascist but in particular it looks like something a monarchist Helghast faction would use in a Killzone game.

Long story short, ChatGPT and I are brainstorming desserts based off flags now

Just noticed that the ticket machines for the local trains use the UAE flag to represent the Arabic language.
I've frequently seen the Arab League flag used for it instead.
Sometimes the flags of Yemen/Egypt/Assadist Syria (red, white and black horizontal tricolor, sometimes with charges), sometimes the flag of Saudi Arabia.
I'm not surprised by the usage of the Union Flag for English since I'm in Germany (and outside of areas with significant US military bases), though often you see the flag of the USA and of the UK split diagonally sharing the same spot.

Fun with Flags

I should have posted this on Flag Day (June 14th) but, as it so often does, life got in the way. So here’s a bonus Word of the Day you can save for next June. The Word of the Day is “flag.”
We’re talking about the noun here – a banner (star-spangled or not), pennant, banderole or gonfalon, generally made of cloth and attached by one end to a pole or rope, used as an emblem, symbol or signal.
If you were a regular viewer of The Big Bang Theory on TV, you’ll know that “Fun with Flags” was a recurring bit, an online web show within the sitcom. “Fun with Flags” was comedy gold.
So, where did the word “flag” come from? Who the hell knows? No one can say for sure, although there is some speculation that the noun is related to the verb “to flag,” meaning to droop, go limp, flutter or flap around loosely. The verb probably had its roots in Old Norse “flaka,” to flicker, flutter or hang loose.
The only national flag that is non-quadrilateral (that is, four-sided) is the flag of Nepal. At least one online source says the jagged edges are supposed to represent the Himalayas.
The flag of Mozambique is one of the very few national flags featuring weapons, and possibly the only one with an automatic weapon – in this case, an AK-47. There’s also an open book and a hoe, for what it’s worth.
And for overall weirdness, it’s hard to beat Sicily’s flag, which features three bare legs (a “triskeles”) surrounding a Medusa head, with three stalks of wheat growing out of it (Some say it’s three ears of corn, but it sure looks like wheat to me). We could go into the symbolism of all that at some length, but that’s all the time we’ve got for today’s episode of Fun with Flags…and Words.

Oh come on @sandeebridges there's no way it can be that bad! Is this because of the order they put the jam and cream on their scones?
Look at that contrasting green and white colouring. The tasteful thickness of the cross. Oh my God, it even has fimbriation.
Memes aside, I would genuinely really like to hear more of your opinions about this flag 😊
This site is great for people who have opinions so esoteric as to be functionally useless

Any MAGA person follow me that I haven’t blocked yet? Or maybe a fellow leftist understands:
If Republicans love symbols of the United States so much that it frankly feels like the very idolotry that the Christian Bible says is very much wrong, why is it that Republicans also love turning the symbol of the flag into anything but what it is? See below examples:

I’ve also often seen the flag, usually in dimmer colors, with Trump’s face or words supporting Trump, because what’s a little idolatry-with-a-flag when you can add the living Golden Calf to it too? Ironically, there’s even a flag that combines White Jesus - with crown of thorns! - with flag Imagery, likely alluding to the other complicated question of why Christian Americans think the country is somehow divinely ordained as if we were a Jewish tribe or something. There’s even a company that’ll just throw photos on top of the flag, because that’s the best way to show off your latest family picture apparently.
So… Why the fuck isn’t all this considered desecrating the flag?

FUN FACT #3
The Lone Star State arguably the most commonly used nickname for Texas comes from the Texas Flag which features a red and white horizontal strip and a blue vertical strip with a single Lone Star
It also comes from the original flag of the Republic of Texas which featured a large white star with each letter of TEXAS in the spaces between the points of the stars on a navy blue back
No matter how the nickname started the fact remains that texas has always used it Lone Star as a representation of the great state

I’ve decided that I want to start collecting flags. but only from countries that
1. I’ve been to AND 2. can sing the anthem of.
I’ve got a German and a Canadian flag. others that I should but don’t yet have (in order of how much I want them):
Wales
Sweden
Norway
Belgium
Italy
Switzerland
France
Austria
Spain
England
#ollie's log#fun with flags#fun with anthems#and I mean big flags that I can wrap myself in#(don't have that for germany - that one's small but enough for me)#I should really go to scotland and guernsey#and finally learn the lyrics of the portuguese anthem#though I'm not sure if I really wanna count portugal since I've only been to porto santo and madeira and not the mainland#I'm not counting denmark because I've never spent a night there#only transited through it on our way to sweden#other countries that seem doable in the near(er) future are#liechtenstein and finland and iceland and monaco (just have to go there)#and the netherlands (just have to learn the anthem)
