[230628] Consequence Article: 10 Dynamic Pop Albums ATEEZ Think Every Music Fan Should Own
1. SZA - SOS
HONGJOONG: I’ve been so into this album lately. SOS itself is so organic, and with SZA’s voice, it’s music that you wouldn’t get tired of even if you listened to the entire album on repeat all day long. I can honestly say that it’s an album that awakened a new taste in music that I never realized I had.
2. DPR IAN - Moodswings in to Order
SEONGHWA: The videos and concept are so fascinating and extremely cool. And the music, of course, is to my taste and preference. I’ve actually been largely influenced by the style from this album.
3. Christopher - Under the Surface
YUNHO: Every single track on this album, even the B-side tracks, are my style! I can honestly say that every song on this album is my type of song.
4. ATEEZ - SPIN OFF : FROM THE WITNESS
YEOSANG: This is an ATEEZ album, but I wanted to bring it up because I personally really like the style and mood of the album. I loved performing the title track off the EP a lot, too.
5. EXO - DON'T MESS UP MY TEMPO
SAN: This would definitely be my personal pick for a top album because it’s one that largely inspired me as an artist on stage. I grew my own dreams of being an artist while listening to their songs and watching their performances.
6. Calvin Harris - Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2
MINGI: I’ve always been a huge fan of Calvin Harris, but I really like the overall vibe of this album, so it’s my favorite. It’s got so many songs that are great for easy listening, so it’s an album that I’m really fond of.
7. Shawn Mendes - Illuminate
WOOYOUNG: There’s a lot of memories tied to this album, and Shawn Mendes is an artist whose vocals have really inspired me as an artist. I remember when we used to listen to this album a lot as trainees, and even do vocal practices using his music. Each and every single song on this album is a masterpiece! I’d love to collaborate with him one day.
8. Bruno Mars - XXIVK Magic
JONGHO: Every single song on this album is amazing. It’s an understatement to say that his music has given me so much inspiration vocally. This album in particular really makes you think, because it’s simply enthralling how one person’s vocals can express so many different genres! After listening to all the songs on this album, it made me want to work even harder to broaden my spectrum and range.
9. Charlie Puth - Voicenotes
ATEEZ: We listened to this album a lot in the car on our way to and from different work schedules during promotions, so it brings back a lot of memories. Definitely one for the road that brings back a lot of memories we’ve had together as a group.
10. EDEN - RYU : 川
ATEEZ: This is an album that we listened to a lot as trainees that gave us comfort. We learned and gained inspiration from this album during our early days as a group. And though we work with him frequently now as our producer, it wasn’t as easy to see EDEN back then. We would listen to his songs, study them, and receive comfort from them.

Can we talk about how distasteful the Getaway Car title is, please? It's like Calvin didn't have a car accident that could have killed him weeks before she dumped him to be with Hiddleston.

She's a horrible person who probably cheated on her injured and hospitalized boyfriend and dumped him while he was resting and getting better from his injuries. He cancelled a bunch of shows, he was told to rest and she had her team saying she will never leave his side and see what she did.
Then she does the this is what you came for thingy to put her entire fanbase against him. If someone had a cruel summer in 2016 was Calvin, not her.
She thought she was dying but he nearly did. He was so lucky to have survived.
I do wonder from time to time what would have happened if something bad happened to Calvin during that car accident. Would have she played the widow part and milked it for publicity?
I'm just glad Calvin made it and gave us the best album with Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 the following summer and now he's happily married with a successful and beautiful woman.
As she says.. something.. something Karma is a relaxing thought... 😏

Calvin Harris enjoyer here, I'm feeling amazing by seeing Calvin getting vindicated.
He exposed TS and swifties and proceeded to make the best album of his career Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.
Stream Slide for clear skin.
guess I will stream the album as an apology to CH💀

As a longtime fan of Calvin Harris, I believe a musical fairy dies when swifties say that his biggest hit is "This Is What You Came For"
Their ignorance about music is astounding to me.
"We Found Love" is literally there.
And I need to say this: The entirety of Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 is better and way more interesting and original than anything she has produced in her career so far.
One Kiss with Dua Lipa too! So many platinum certificates.

Penrose Song of the Day Day 29: Hawt Disco Loop by Keys N Krates
This song is. exactly what it says on the tin. And honest to god, one of the few reasons for a song to be 2 minutes long these days.
I actually really like Keys N Krates. I know them more familiarly by Pull Up (What's good Drag Race Canada), but Dum Dee Dum is. Fine (I know I'm Seinfeld is Unfunnying them here, but it comes with the territory unfortunately). But A Beat Tape for Your Friends is so. SO. I love it, what can I say.
Just the name of the album. A Beat Tape for Your Friends. I think the thing I like most about Electronic Music is the thing I like most about, well , frontier work in general. There's this sense of shared work, of iterating and riffing and creating off of. Nothing is new under the sun, but at the edges of what we can do we're always pushing to find it. New. Something that makes you wonder if there's more, further, more interesting.
So the idea that this album is specifically a beat tape for you to make your own songs with is just. So charming. I can't help but fall in love with it. The idea that your album is not only ready to be riffed, but is inviting it in name, structure, format. It's so much my jam. I love it.
Are all the Beats hits? Absolutely not, I find some of these to be so... slow? unsnappy? behind the beat? They feel offtempo sometimes, or off the mark. I don't know how else to describe it. It feels wrong in some indescribable way.
But the first track hits just right, trust me.
You know Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 by Calvin Harris? And how for an entire summer we had this album putting song after song on the charts. I love that Album. Feels, Heatstroke, Cashout, SLIDE of course Slide, I love Slide. There's something about this album that puts me in the Summer mood. The beats hit that summer vibe, even the down tempo stuff like Hard to Love feels like a sultry summer evening. Sticky with sweat and a bit nostalgic.
Hawt Disco Loop gets there, for me. It just. It delivers. This is a Dead Dove Do Not Eat moment but like. Hawt Disco Loop is... a hot disco loop. Crazy I know. It hits hot, summery, exciting, flushed. It hits disco with the funky, bouncy, wavy way it hits the track. And it's a 2 minute loop. I know it fades into Baby Don't Cry, but if you cut it right it probably loops perfectly. It's got dynamism, the loop is not just the same 8 bars (though those 8 bars are damn near perfect).
I get pretty charmed by a song that tells you what it is and then just does that thing. Know who you are and all that.
Anyways, sometimes just say what you're doing and deliver. You could be dead right now. Go listen to something you love.

The collaboration comes after ATEEZ’s established admiration for Halsey.
The K-pop group’s fans, known as ANTINY, know the members frequently share music recommendations: Both Wooyoung and Jongho have shared their fondness for “Boy With Luv,” her hit collaboration with BTS, Yeosang has recommended Halsey’s chart-topping Billboard Hot 100 hit “Closer” with The Chainsmokers to fans. Mingi has also praised G-Eazy’s work, notably his Hot 100 hit “Me, Myself & I” featuring Bebe Rexha, and previously recommended Calvin Harris’ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 album, where Halsey features on two tracks.

Music Fans Think G-Eazy’s Verse on ATEEZ’s ‘Work’ Remix Is a Callout to Halsey: ‘This Was Not on My Bingo List’
G's mention of Libras raised eyebrows in his new remix to the K-pop group's No. 1 hit.
Tumblr media
With the newly released version of ATEEZ’s No. 1 single “Work” poised to make crossover impact for the K-pop group via the all-English remix featuring G-Eazy, the rapper’s verses have also sparked speculation among fans online that he used the track to take a jab at his ex-girlfriend, Halsey.
Released Friday, Aug. 9, the “Part 4” remix of “Work,” which topped World Digital Song Sales in June for ATEEZ’s first chart-topper on the ranking, features G-Eazy delivering a verse that has fans talking: “Actin’ innocent, no, it’s not your first time/We’re far away if Libra is her sign/ Oof, danger, danger (Danger, danger)/Don’t be a stranger (Don’t be a stranger)/ She said no one can save her.”
This particular line has drawn attention due to Halsey’s Sept. 29 birthday, making her a Libra and leading to widespread speculation that the lyrics could be a thinly veiled reference to his experiences and their past relationship. The stars were in a highly publicized relationship from 2017 to 2018 before an abrupt breakup in July 2018. While neither has spoken up directly about what ended their time together, both artists have released music that fans believe alludes to their breakup. Halsey has also previously mentioned being in an “abusive relationship,” though she has never explicitly confirmed if G-Eazy was involved.
After the collaboration’s release, one user on X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote that they “got weirded out when he sings that [because] I immediately remember Halsey…this is ATEEZ’s song why tf did u make it about u.” One X user added, “A collab of all things to make a little diss at your ex,” with another saying, “G-Eazy shading Halsey in a K-popcollab…this was not on my bingo list AT ALL.”
As some fans have noted, the particular lyrics in G-Eazy’s verse stand out against the backdrop of ATEEZ’s original message in “Work,” which is about focusing in on pushing toward your goals and achieving success. One fan on X wrote, “We’re talking about clocking in and he’s over here harassing his ex.”
Indeed, the K-pop group sings about the hustle in lines like, “I like to party when it’s a party/That’s payin’ me to pull up” and the addictive chorus of “Gotta work, gotta work / Gotta make that money, make purse.” G-Eazy later adds, “Work, flex, work, flex, always in the lab/ How I earn checks/ Hundred thousand dollars for a verse, yes/Wouldn’t lift a finger if it were less.”
Representatives for G-Eazy nor ATEEZ did not return Billboard‘s request for comment at press time.
Even if the potential diss has dominated most of the conversation, it’s important to recognize the latest steps in ATEEZ’s barrier-breaking 2024 that includes multiple “Work” remixes, being named an “Up Next” star in Variety’s Young Hollywood Impact Report, and the ongoing [Towards the Light : Will to Power] in North America arena and stadium tour that just took over New York’s CitiField on Saturday, Aug. 2. This year has also been momentous for G-Eazy with the June 21 release of his seventh studio album, Freak Show, marking his first full-length project in nearly three years, which precedes a world tour hitting North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand through this and next year.

Skrt On Me
Skrt On Me
Nicki Minaj (June 30, 2017)
Arriving fresh off the back of a successful summer so far, Nicki Minaj joins forces with Calvin Harris on his gem of a summertime album called Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1 for the tropical song Skrt On Me. Despite spending the earlier part of the year proving herself as a rapper amidst the beef with Remy Ma — Nicki mainly sings on this song, rapping for only one verse towards the end. Skrt On Me is a song that feels wistful and gives a sneak peek into Nicki's current state of mind as she fools around with potential suitors, completely in love with her independence as a single woman.
"You know my loving ain't free, babe/Won't make you do what you don't wanna do/What you don't wanna do, no, that ain't me, babe." Here, Nicki talks about her love of expensive gifts and lavish jewelry. The man in her life can't just satisfy her sexually but should be able to adorn her with gifts since he's trying to keep her attention. In 2017, Nicki was one of the most sought-after women in the industry, freely flirting in ways she couldn't in the past due to her relationship with Meek Mill. Nicki entertained Nas in early 2017, but then she quickly pivoted in the direction of the Toronto native that's spent the last few years of his career professing his love for her: Drake. It's no secret that Drake and Nicki reunited after Nicki's breakup, but they also hung out privately a lot more and spent more time around each other than they had in years. "I need you ten hut now, need you ten toes down, baby." Nicki might be playing into Drake's hand, but she needs security from him. The guarantee that if he's hers, then he'll stay hers and not wander off when she needs him. "Said if you ride, baby, ride up/Pull up from behind, baby, wine up/And you and me, we can shine up/So, baby, come make your mind up." Nicki pokes at Drake's indecisiveness, telling him that she wants to ride with him: as in, literally riding him (sexually) and riding with him as his woman if he really wants her like he says he does. Nicki uses the playful lyrics of the pre-chorus to sexually characterize how she wants him to be there for her. He can "pull up from behind" when they're dirty dancing, but also "pull up" when it comes time to hold her down so they can shine together.
This entire song is Nicki singing as she discreetly tries to communicate her wishes to the man she's dancing with about what she desires from him. At the end of the chorus Nicki sings: "'Cause you keep telling me your love ain't free, babe." Interestingly enough, in 2016 Dj Khaled and Drake released a tropical pop song (kind of like this one) where Drake raps about needing to be paid because the "sex is too good" for it to be free. "I always wonder if you ask yourself (Ask yourself)/Is it just me? (Just me)/Is it just me?/Or is this sex so good I shouldn't have to fuck for free?." Nicki knows how Drake gets down and knows that he won't stay in something if it isn't benefitting him. She knows that he could be looking at anyone, but he's giving her his attention — and while she has it she intends to hold him to his word and take him seriously, so long as he is honest with her. "Yeah, maybe I-I-I got so used to just giving you the least, babe/But nowadays, I need more from ya, I need something I can keep." Nicki knows that she's pushed him away in the past and wants him to know that she's trying to be better, she just needs more reassurance.
"And I'm playing the field, Brad Wing in the punt/I'ma tell him I love him in the foreign and cuff him." As much as Nicki is trying with Drake, she's still technically a single woman. They're both feeling each other out, taking steps to see each other without doing anything concrete that confirms anything. So in the meantime, Nicki continues "playing the field" having a couple of "new boys" as she waits for Drake to follow through and show her that he's worth it. "This the real thing, can you feel the force yet?"

For a brand-new song, Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding have teamed up once more. You can listen to it below; the song is called “Miracle.”
“Miracle” is the title of the duo’s first joint song in almost ten years. In 2012, they worked together on “I Need Your Love,” and in 2014, “Outside.” Harris released Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 2 last year as a follow-up to 2017’s Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 1.

We have noticed a multitude of peculiarities on our digressive discussions of Calvin Harris' strangely compelling career that slowly propelled him towards the upper echelon level of the modern electronic music landscape. One such weird thing might be the reason for his longevity as a DJ, i.e. he thinks like a singer.  This remains my personal theory, but I believe he gets many guests thanks to the fact he structures his pieces with a similar mindset he used during his singing days. His latest, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, shows that succinctly, since the album doesn't contain him behind the microphone, yet the LP feels distinctly his. He also appears to be more relaxed, which results into a collection of intriguing tunes, so you do wish he does Vol. 2 soon.
