Reactions to Being Ignored for Video Games (part 1)

Exactly what it says on the tin! Modern AU Genshin characters react to the reader not paying attention to them in favour of a video game!

Ayato is undoubtedly pouty about it. He gripes and grumbles to himself, but won’t just outright express what he’s feeling. He'll sit in your peripheral with his arms crossed and an unamused look on his face. It isn't often that he gets time off just to spend with you, so he takes it as a grievous offence if you don't want to do something with him. He isn't the type of person to particularly enjoy playing video games or watching others play them, so he'll just act like a stick in the mud until you set the game aside and give him some attention - then all will immediately be forgiven, or he'll just complain to Ayaka or Thoma later, then grumble when they joke that he's jealous of a game console. 

Arlecchino will just outright bitch at you - not necessarily in a mean or rude way, just in that signature way of hers where you can't quite tell if she's joking or not. She may snatch the device or controller from your hands to play a round or two and certainly won't say no if you offer to take it in turns (be warned though, she's prone to bouts of gamer rage). As long as she has at least some semblance of your attention, she's usually okay - but if you're ignoring her entirely, prepare to have your gaming session well and truly interrupted. If you don't let her play, or, gods forbid, continue to ignore her, she'll get snippy and annoyed, huffing and puffing and stomping about the room as she waits for you to give her attention.  

Baizhu is almost painfully polite about it - if you miss something he's said or don't respond, he'll just let out a breathy little sigh and shake his head and sit somewhere nearby to wait until you're done and he has your full attention - he struggles to compete with noisy devices when talking aloud and usually doesn't mind hanging on until you're ready to talk to him. He'll just read a book or do something on his phone for as long as it takes, but his very presence in the room seems to be loud in some way, though he himself isn't. It's just always extremely obvious that he's in there with you, keeping a close eye on your every move and waiting to say what he wants to say. 

Capitano doesn't really care unless he's trying to tell you something urgent (in which case he just plucks the device from your hand to make sure he has your full attention). He likes spending quiet time with his loved ones and is more than happy to sit in the corner and read a book, or quietly watch you play your game. He doesn't have much interest in participating, but he likes seeing people engage in things that make them happy. If you offer him a controller to play with, he seems to almost get flustered as he shakes his head and insists that he's fine just watching. He's too darn polite for his own good. 

Childe cannot stand not being in the centre of your attention. The moment he realises you're more absorbed in your game than you are in his mere presence, he turns into the embodiment of that one annoying little cousin at the family gathering. "Hey, what are you playing?" "Can I play too?" "Why are you being so quiet?" "Are you concentrating?" "Why won't you talk to me?" He's all up in your face, prodding and poking and pulling at you until you eventually snap and ask him what he wants - he usually doesn't really want anything except your unwavering attention. If you keep up the charade of ignoring him long enough, he'll practically start climbing all over you like a needy puppy, grumbling and pouting all the while. 

Cyno doesn't really mind - or doesn't even notice that your attention isn't on him. If possible, he'll just pick up a controller and jump into the game without even asking, or he'll sit right beside you to watch, so close that he's pressed up against you. He loves providing commentary like a mid 2010s YouTuber. Whether the act is satire or not is a hotly debated mystery amongst everybody who knows him, it's still pretty funny to hear though. His reactions are always so over the top and hilarious - if you play a horror game, rest assured he'll be hiding under the nearest blanket or clinging to you at the first jumpscare. If it's a strategy game, he'll put on a voice like a sports announcer and comment on your every move. Comedy genius, honestly.

The amount of copium jokes I made about faceless!Ayato being a yandere for me for the past hour is astronomical and admittedly very concerning lmao. I can't tell if the man hates me or he's pulling some Pro Yandere Gamer Strats ™️ by making sure no one sees my posts hAHAHHA–

It's 10x funnier that I was contemplating on whether or not I should pull in the weapon banner for Childe and sacrifice my C4 Ayato dreams before all this so I guess this is Ayato's way of revenge lololololol. Note: I only have 20 pulls, my character banner is at 30 pity guaranteed but this idiot thinks they have a chance in winning the weapon banner. And with my luck I'd probably have to pull 210 times.

I just need to vent a little. 

What is it I am venting about? The theory about Nahida. 

But before we go any further, you guys should know there’s going to be some 🚨SPOILERS🚨 for Sumeru and Inazuma if you haven’t progress far into the game story.

Let me start from the beginning.

The first bandwagon that most players jumped on was about Kaeya. Yeah, that Kaeya.

It was only after learning a bit more about Khaenri’ah (most likely the second Dainsleif/Abyss Order story quest) did the theory of Kaeya being Khaenri’ah’s royal prince appeared.

To be fair, I thought so too. But the community decided that he was the prince without any concrete evidence. Yet, it was not until recently when we were introduced to Diluc’s new skin did we learn that Kaeya is, in fact, NOT of royalty.

That’s one strike.

The next bandwagon theory was in Inazuma.

I think this was from leaks, else there were rumours about an alleged playable character perishing in Inazuma. And that went to Kazuha.

Kazuha was a wanted fugitive of Inazuma and players were speculating that he would perish after confronting the Raiden Shogun. 

This allegation was questioned whether Mihoyo would actually kill a playable character, because it didn’t make sense if the character is already with the players’ teams and the game decided to just kill this character. Honkai players who were also playing the game affirmed that this does happen in Honkai Impact. 

And that started the flood of short comics of Kazuha perishing, friends trying to avenge him etc. on any social media community you can find. Obviously, that never happened.

That’s strike two.

Now, here comes the third bandwagon. Nahida.

The story of Nahida (summarised) is that she appeared after the alleged passing of the Greater Lord Rukkhadevata at the Catalyst 500 years ago. In case you are not sure what the Catalyst is, it’s the fall of Khaenri’ah.

Fast forward to the in-game archon quest, we had one cutscene that tells the story of the relationships of Greater Lord Rukkhadevata, King Deshret (The Scarlet King), and the goddess of flowers. Towards the end of the cutscene, Greater Lord Rukkhadevata expanded her powers to save Sumeru and at the end, shrunk to the size of a small child. Coincidentally, Nahida is also a child.

That’s where the bandwagon comes. Players started confirming that Nahida, aka. Lesser Lord Kusunali, is Greater Lord Rukkhadevata just from that cutscene.

May I ask, how the heck did you guys come to that conclusion?

I am not saying that it is not possible, but players seems to be forgetting that the cutscene could be from a different time point; this probably happened long before the Catalyst. 

Moreover, there’s no confirmation or concrete proof that Nahida may be Rukkhadevata. It is alright if we call it a theory, but players are just jumping into the bandwagon saying that it is true.

I had players telling me in the Facebook Community that it IS a confirmed theory 🤦‍♀️. Like, people, where is the proof?! 

It seems like the Genshin Community has yet to learn their lesson 😮‍💨

generation; a group of streamers that debut at the same time and the lore of their streamer selves will be connected in some manner

by streamer selves i mean that they are usually playing a character when streaming, they'll use their real personality but for any personal details they will refer to a character backstory that they have. however their character is not the main focus of their streams, they stream like regular people and will only deflect to their lore if dealing with personal questions.

HELLO gamers it's ya girl Jazzy back at it again with the theories..

This time I'm going to yell about Dainsleif! Because I love him a lot and there's a lot of lore to be unpacked with him, I feel like.

So for the longest time I always wondered: why does he hate the Archons? It makes sense that he despises the Abyss since it's very heavily implied that our sibling was his traveling companion and then subsequently corrupted by the Abyss and made the ruler; but his disdain for the gods is not as easy to pinpoint. However, I think I have an idea (and this may have already been said but, I want to say it as well).

As we all know, people with Visions can become gods by ascending to Celestia, like Vennessa. However, that's not the only way to get godlike power- there's also Delusions, which are extremely powerful and extremely dangerous. They are powered by Archon residue, which is what Collei was infused with in the manga!

What I am trying to get at is this: what if the Unknown Goddess was once human? What if she's a test subject gone horribly right?

Consider that perhaps she and Dainsleif were companions and then both taken by the Abyss and experimented on (and that's why Dainsleif wears a mask and why his arm looks kinda funky and also why he looks similar to an Abyss Herald), and while he managed to escape, she did not and was corrupted by Archon residue which is why Dainsleif hates the Abyss AND the Archons; since it was their power combined that warped her.

Maybe that's what Dainsleif was referring to when he told us "prove to me that you are worthy to save her-" the MC can canonically purify corruption, so perhaps once he gets his powers back instead of killing the Unknown Goddess, he'll cleanse her impurity and free her!

Of course this can apply to our sister too but I'm saying what if it's not just her?? It'd be a fun subversion from "kill the evil god endgame" trope too, for the goddess to not actually be evil, just corrupted, like Dvalin.

Additionally I've been thinking: since Dainsleif is the Bough Keeper and thus most likely linked to the Ley Lines, which have the memories of all the world, that's how he knows so much about..well, everything. Since he visits the bar so much I would say it's safe to say he's at least seen Kaeya before, and he probably knows everything about him too- and the fact that he hasn't raised any alarm has me thinking he doesn't see Kaeya as a threat (which thankfully makes villain!Kaeya theories that much weaker since Dainsleif shows explicit wariness towards Albedo, but not him; and even in Albedo's case it's not even him being villainous it's the impactions that he's connected to Durin, the cursed dragon, and perhaps cursed as well. But not evil.)

Personally I think that Dainsleif and Kaeya are two of a handful of survivors from Khaeri'nah and Dainsleif is low key watching to make sure nothing happens to Kaeya (I really like the theories that Kaeya's royalty) in a very "hands off" way. But we'll have to wait and see-
