When literally any other popular game IP gets an indie spiritual successor based on it, fans of those IPs are all like "wow, I'm happy to see another game similar to this other game that I enjoy. I am excited to see what new ideas this indie game brings to that old formula".
When the same thing happens to Pokemon or Zelda, Pokemon and Zelda fans throw a temper tantrum, and sling the word "plagiarism" around without knowing what it even means.
Not even Sonic fans do that shit...
I don't even think it's a Nintendo fan thing either, cuz even Mario fans are pretty chill when Paper Mario or SMRPG gets a new indie successor.
It's always the Pokemon and Zelda people.
In fact, I'm pretty sure the only time Zelda fans were accepting of an indie adaptation was when Arzette came around.
Edit: Actually nevermind, Yu-Gi-Oh! fans do this too with any other card game that exists, ugh.

Hello! Earlier today, an upcoming indie game came to my attention (through this yt video) and I figured it needed more publicity since it looks absolutely dope and with a really fucking cool artstyle and exciting action gameplay.
Tumblr media
Here's GENOKIDS! A fast-paced hack-and-slash game about four band kids that try to save the world from an alien invasion! Their ship landed on their stage during a concert and they won't let such an action slide!
Meet the GENOKIDS!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My personal favorite is Yellow, she's cute what can I say lol
There's a demo out right now and you can try it out for yourself! This game takes inspiration from games such as Kingdom Hearts as well as Devil May Cry so you can expect similar gameplay mechanics such as the lock-in system from KH and the style meter from DmC!
All the media provided in this post is taken straight from GENOKIDS' main site (x) where you can also find a trailer and their devlog! I've been informed (from said YouTube video) that the development team consists of two people so it's exciting and inspiring to see a game of such a scale from them!
Check it out!!!

Demo Days - Genokids
I am back and this week I played a nice little hack and slash spectacle fighter titled Genokids. It had surprised me so much that I played the demo more than once, which I almost never do.

Tonight at 9PM ET on twitch, I'll be playing the early access GENOKIDS Demo thanks to the devs at Nukefist! Stop by and check out this fast paced hack and slash where a band of musicians have to defeat an alien invasion! This is a tag action between the band members who have different abilities, it looks like a fun game and I'm excited to try it out!

Not sure if you're looking for any game recommendations considering FF7R, but Genokids looks like it'd be right up your alley. It's a character swap hack-and-slash based on DMC and Kingdom Hearts and it currently has a demo up on steam.
Oh I've heard that name before! I checked out the page and it looks really cool, definitely downloading the demo.
It's kind of funny. With Soulslikes (which I have to preface here that I still enjoy mind you, even the clumsier non-Fromsoft designs like the new Jedi games) taking over what the default "action game" looks like, it feels more and more like all these character action / stylish action games became more closely-knit communities that expect to mostly share the same players.
So much sharing in fact, that almost all of the indies pay some kind of overt homage to DMC in their storepages like it's a secret password to accessing their target market.
I mean, the first line of the Genokids store page is a Vergil joke.
Tumblr media
An even more extreme example is Slave Zero X. It's not even a 3D action game but a 2(.5)D one, making it closer to Strider, and yet the Devil May Cry mention still comes first
Tumblr media
The action game landscape has changed so much from the PS2 era that these games can't just say "action" and get their players anymore, the communities have to namedrop Dante to find each other. Very interesting to think about.

Ignore the youtube label, just press it and then press ‘go to site’ and then it’ll lead you to a kickstarter page ‘GENOKIDS’ is a co-op hack and slash game wherein a band of musicians take down an alien invasion Please spread this/consider giving cash as they have 6 hours yet as of posting this in their campaign and STILL haven’t reached their goal!

Genokids seeks Kickstarter support and a Linux build
Tumblr media
Genokids co-op hack and slash Kickstarter due for support in Linux gaming, Mac and Windows PC. Thanks to the two person development of Nukefist. Which is 67% funded with 3 days left before the crowdfunding campaign ends. Genokids co-op hack and slash has a pledge goal of €30,000 ($35,577 USD). Which is a game about MOTIVATION. Also, a fast paced co-op hack and slash where a band of musicians take down an alien invasion! Inspired by games like Kingdom Hearts or Devil May Cry. Genokids is a game about flashy, over the top action where player expression is highly encouraged. While you arm yourself with the power of motivation. And take what seems to be impossible. Here's what Nukefist have to say about Linux support:
You should expect both a Linux and a Mac Port. We are using Unity and right now only a few issues stand in the way of doing such ports. In the case of Linux, we can port to it and test it...
Since the game is using Unity 3D for development. This should make porting easier. Even though support is not listed on the Steam page. It's a pleasure to know that Nukefist already has plans for a port. Hopefully, the Kickstarter campaign is successful.

Playing as one of the four characters is great. But all of them playing at the same time is even better. Genokids lets you take on the entire campaign with your friends. Doing so in split screen co-op as you blast your way through the levels. While trying to one-up each other's style! If you want to try out the Demo for Windows PC, the game is playable via Wine. At the end of the Genokids level, the entire band will recieve a rank. Which is based on their performance. With the MVP of the match due to receive extra Ego. Letting players replay a level as much as you want to get S ranks.
Features:
Play as one of the 4 protagonists, each with their own unique moveset!
Unlock powerful abilities and combine them to create your own playstyle!
Play the campaign alone or up to 4 player splitscreen!
Follow the hilarious story of Genokids. As this band of misfits makes the impossible, possible.
Creating full fledged anime-like animation is extremely expensive. But Nukefist does not want to miss out on the flexibility that 2D graphics can allow. So for cutscenes they are opting for a motion comic approach. With Genokids having very limited animation. As a result, the dev team are only outsourcing content they cannot make themselves. Such as the audio, sfx, music, etc. It'll also cover our hardware upgrades as well as software licenses. Genokids co-op hack and slash is doing well on Kickstarter. But still needs your support for the crowdfunding campaign. Due to release in Linux gaming, Mac and Windows PC in November 2022.

First look at GENOKIDS
A new trailer has been released for GENOKIDS. No release date was specified.
Welcome to Las Divas, normally a busy city full of busy people doing busy things. Tonight's a little different, though. Tonight is where the fate of our species will be decided.
But who cares about that!? Definitely not our protagonists, the Genokids. You see, they've got a killer concert scheduled for tonight. I think you can imagine they weren't very happy when this so-called, "Infinite Empire of Zenodia" decided to turn their stage into a landing pad.
