This was from the CBT (Closed Beta Test 1) of Genshin Impact, the scene where Dvalin/Stormterror had caught Venti and the team in mid-air.

The final version was more polished and vividly animated, but Venti wasn't awake when he was caught by Dvalin in mid-air in the final cut. This is the only moment we could see his relieved smile while seeing Dvalin after saving the dragon!

1. My first impression of them

A Wimdy Boi.

When I first saw that one CBT leaked model picture of him from Moops, I thought he had the BEST design in Genshin Impact and I was right. The fall aesthetic he had going on really screamed "wind" to me. Autumn, a period of transition in seasons, something something winds of change. He made me think of Fu Hua too (which kinda makes sense considering his hair could have been inspired by hers)

Also, he looked like the kind of guy who'd eat a crunchy leaf

2. When I think I truly started to like them

Honestly, I liked him the moment I saw the guy. He turned out way more chaotic than I anticipated and I am here for that. The fact that he also reminded me of Nameless Bard didn't help matters.

28. The most unnecessary thing they ever did?

Idk about being the most unnecessary, but there was this part in one of his character stories where he was travelling with a random merchant and like. Kazuha just stood over the guy until he woke up. Likely for a while just so he could smile at him like "yeah you got pranked" as soon as the merchant woke up.

I'm pretty sure the guy got the message when he woke up outside and threw up leaves, so it might be a little unnecessary, but it was kinda funny

so. about the "boycott genshin" things. i disagree.

1. the hilichurl: it's using indigenous people for a reference. mihoyo never said that that indigenous people are "monsters" and if you wanna say that there's no indigenous people in genshin. THERE WILL BE. Natlan (an unlocked country) is based on Native American which is indigenous people/indians.

2. kaeya: kaeya is a cavalry captain. cavalry is something like a knight that fight on a horse, which means he's always outside and absorbs the sunlight to his body which make him have more darker skin tone. and he never open his eyepatch so that means his tan doesn't go into the eyepatch. it's basic logic guys.

3. xinyan: xinyan is called "scary" because of her clothing style, not because of her skin colour. she have SPIKES headband and shoes. that could litterly make your eyes bleed.

4. flora: flora in the cbt test is an adult, but people want more kids so it'll look more natural. but the new (kid) flora is different from ms flora now.

5. whitewashing: people said the xinyan official art and in game is very different, and the in game is a whitewash. it's NOT a whitewash. she was never even black, she's BROWN. lots south east asian people have the same skin color as xinyan. it looked "whitewashed" because of the lighting. if you don't know what lighting affect then shut up

6. whitewashed "sumerunian" npc: you do know that arabian, egyptian, indian people don't have a dark skin/brown skin right??

7. not much poc chara: have y'all seen lansan?? just wait. be patient.

if you don't want to support genshin and said "uninstall the games" then change ur pfp😐

note: i am just assuming that kokomi is mimi from CBT1 - the hydro catalyst with the giant bow

the back looks so good now, they improved it since CBT 1 and nailed the fish look - looks really regal and elegant. 10/10. mimi back had to go so kokomi back could soar

but why does kokomi have a jewel over her panties, just... why

idk the front half of the outfit is pretty meh to me overall - feels like the top half is barbara (bow and open shoulders), and the panties is fischl but with chafing-length panties

if her legs were sock-less like xiangling or hu tao i think i'd like it more too - i'm just tired of zettai ryouiki leg windows and honestly, why would a fish girl need stockings?

elsewhere: give me some time to cope of the loss of the pinned up hair, i'm sure by the time she finally releases i'll be no longer butthurt. hope they give the hair to someone else though, it's too good to pass up will also miss the coral and waves motifs on mimi too but i see why they removed them - better to streamline the visual language

The buffalo is actually from cbt 2 and not from cbt 1 as the rest, but I'm not gonna make a separate post just for it. It's got 3 different textures which is pretty neat

More enemies from the 1st beta!

The ruin guard seems the least changed, mainly changing in the head area

The fatui masks are separate from their faces but there are no eyes underneath, just a plain face model with the shadow from the mask. In the final game the mask and the face are modeled as one material so there's nothing to look at there

Actually interesting beta stuff today: "Monster_Test_Boss_110" and "Monster_Boss_Wolf_Test"

Wolf is obviously just a test model for Andrius, while the dragon may be a very early prototype for Dvalin. Their designs are wildly different so they must have changed their mind pretty quickly on that. They didn't even texture the poor guy and i had to work with some lights to show him off

The actual final Andrius does exist in the files but only his 1st form, he only looks a tiny bit different from the final

his legs got a bit wider and the icy bits now use their own texture instead of the main body texture, his inner mouth also got less saturated

now back to the dragon

hes also wayyy smaller than final dvalin, here's him compared to Kate

He does however have something that super cool-
