an﹒another genshin au oneshot bc ive been playing it a lot recently and then i had this idea and i was possessed it’s litetally 2am and i Think i’ve proofread but .. yk (rbs r appreciated :(( tell me what u think)

"Traveler!"

You blinked blearily, reaching up to lazily rub away the sleep from your eyes.

"Huh?"

"Traveler! Traveler!"

Your eyes focused after a moment of aggressive rubbing, and backlit by the fiery orange of the village, was the silhouette of pigtails and cute, slightly pointy ears. You recognised her as one of the particularly adventurous children from Vimara Village, Soraya. You propped yourself up on your elbows, wiggling your legs to dispel some of the numbness and summoned up a soft, sleepy sort of smile for her.

"Hey, Soraya, whatcha doin' out here?"

Instead of an answer, you were met with another question, "Traveler, why are you sleeping on the ground? My mommy said that's bad for you."

"Ah," you chuckled dryly, "I wasn't sleeping, just resting my eyes, that's all."

A petulant huff told you she didn't quite believe you, but clearly she had other priorities and you could make out the gummy grin spreading wide on her face.

"Will you tell me another story?"

You should've guessed.

You were hardly preoccupied; you’d been moping, alone, staring up at the stars until your eyes hurt, and then after a little while you'd fallen victim to the spell of a fuzzy, dreamless sleep that hadn't lasted long before Soraya's unexpected arrival. None of that was particularly worthwhile, so you nodded, stretched your hands high above your head, and yawned.

No harm in a little storytelling, you supposed.

She was already bouncing on the balls of her feet and with a cursory glance over her skinny shoulders at the village, still teeming with light, you gave her a proper nod of agreement.

"Just one, it's getting late y'know."

Your warning did nothing to dispel her visible excitement, and selfishly, you were a little glad you had someone to talk to, even if it was a child. Her eyes twinkled, her smile flashing you with missing teeth and it made your chest ache with a deep sense of nostalgia. She was so sincere it almost hurt, it stoked the warm embers in your chest that had been steadily cooling down since your travels had waned into an endeavour that was feeling dangerously futile. You shook it off, and brushed off her questioning head tilt with a smile.

"Yeah, what do you want to hear about?"

"I wanna hear about Liyue again!"

Soraya nodded in agreement with herself, and you hummed, stroking your chin as if you were really deep in thought. Maybe it was another bout of nostalgia, often saved for the confines of whatever home you took up during your travels, but a familiar face came to mind and selfishly, you wanted to tell somebody about him.

"Well, there's a special somebody I met in Liyue," she was already giggling, high pitched and delighted, "the coolest guy around. He can appear and disappear in a cloud of smoke, and fights all the baddies so he can protect the people of Liyue Harbour. Cool, right?"

Soraya's hands were clenched on top of her thighs in excitement, her mouth hanging open in awe even when you'd said so little.

"Who was he? Was he, maybe, your best friend?"

Soraya asked, almost in a whisper, and it was said with so much seriousness you couldn't even laugh. After a slight pause, you said, "I guess you could say that. He's somebody very special to me, Soraya."

She giggled again, and you joined her, letting her curl into your side and shake with infectious laughter.

"What's his name?"

"His name is Yeonjun, the Vigilant Yaksha."

Your statement was punctuated by an exclamation of the utmost amazement, and you smiled warmly. Although you hadn't been talking for long, the sky had darkened considerably, and you were cautious about sending her home in the dark.

"I'll tell you more about him some other time, yeah? It's getting late, you should get home, Soraya."

She whined in complaint but you'd had the same conversation with her countless times while staying in the village, so other than some grumbling, she got up mostly without complaint. You twirled her tufty pigtails with your free hand, and helped her brush stray leaves and blades of grass from her plum coloured dress. Ending your conversation so soon had nothing to do with the tears glittering in the corners of your eyes, clear as quartz and harbouring a pain you were ashamed to feel as deeply as you did. No correlation whatsoever.

"You promise you'll tell me more about your special friend tomorrow?"

You held out your pinky, and she bounded back towards you to interlock your fingers, "I promise."

She nodded, content.

"Goodbye, Traveler. Sleep tight, and don't let the bed bugs bite!"

Her laughter carried behind her on the late evening breeze, and you watched her as she skipped back towards the village. Your feet itched to follow her, but you knew she'd be safe and watch as the melted into the blur of greens and oranges at the hem of the village. Tears had been gathering in your waterline, sitting uncomfortably where you stubbornly refused to blink and let them fall.

You blotted at them with the back of your sleeve, careful not to irritate your eyes lest you received another lecture about how you were free to share your troubles with whatever sap had noticed. You huffed, bending down the gather your few small belongings from the grass and find somewhere to stay for the night. Indoors.

"Your special friend, huh?"

Your eyes widened, and the surprise nearly floored you, the concept of balance lost to you as your head whipped around in search of that voice.

No way.

Streaks of teal glittered in his hair, otherwise inky black and falling so prettily around his face in a way you knew, enviously, was effortless. His eyes, the ones others knew to be sharp and cold, were rounded with a softness you hoped selfishly you’d be the only one they were ever directed at.

You couldn’t even appreciate the sight of him before you were stumbling forward on unsteady legs, right into his waiting arms. When his arms closed around you, you melted into their promised embrace. His smell, the evening warmth that practically clung to his skin, you burrowed closer like he was going to vanish into thin air. You knew he could. You also knew he wouldn’t.

“You called.”

“You came,” you breathed out.

Yeonjun pried you away with an uncharacteristically gentle touch, and childishly you resisted, but a low chuckle weakened your resolve. He wiped your tears, thumbs lingering on your cheek bones and surveying your face, making up for all the time that had passed where he couldn’t hold you like he’d wanted so desperately to do.

“You don’t need to talk, just let me look at you,” he said quietly.

“There’s so much I want to say to you.”

“I know, and you can, I’m here.”

You melted back into his arms, and although you had never really known one, it felt like home.

“I told you I’d always come, didn’t I? Whenever you called me,” he paused, and continued in a whisper, “why didn’t you?”

You declined to answer, resting your cheek against his shoulder and soaking in the comfort he exuded. Amidst the static in your head, you were left wondering how one person was able to make your head spin to such a dizzying effect it put hard liquor to shame. It was concerning how easy it was to let your eyes flutter closed and melt into the sensation of him.

You don’t know how long you stood there, knees buzzing with pins and needles and arms looped around him so tightly you were sure your joints would lock in place. He hummed, and it reverberated through your chest in a way that brought you immeasurable relief.

Yeonjun pulled back again, hands gripping your shoulders tightly and staring straight into your eyes. Unbeknownst to you, those beautiful, mesmerising eyes had held him captive for god knows how many months.

“You’re so clingy, hm? Missed me?”

You huffed, “‘m not answering that.”

“I know you did, just wanted to hear you say it, that’s all.”

You leaned in to bump your noses, and he blinked in surprise as you brought him closer, unwilling to allow any space between you.

“Ah, so cute~”

In any other circumstance you’d be embarrassed, but not with him, not after you’d deprived yourself of his presence for so long. You’d take your small victories where you could get them. A finger pokes your cheek, and begrudgingly you pull back again, but the quirk of his lips, nearly a smile, is enough to keep you content with the distance. Warmth radiates from him, both through his skin and his overall presence. Being with Yeonjun is unmatched, a high that has you gunning for more. You’d like to lose yourself in the feeling for the remainder of the day, or even until the end of time.

Yeonjun’s eyes were glossy, like maybe he'd accidentally stolen one of his dreams from slumber's elusive hands in the middle of the night and stitched them into his neon irises. His lips were red, a little raw and bitten. You traced his bottom lip, he made as if to bite your fingertip and you couldn’t help but smile.

“Stay with me?”

“Always.”

A Summary of known Sumeru lore (crumbs) before 3.0 drops

Just the daily dose of Sumeru crumbs to make the wait slightly more bearable. In the last stretch of patches before we go to our next region. Idk about you guys, but I think I’m only going to look at the concept art of Sumeru whenever it’s shown to us. Otherwise, I’m going to ignore anything else, leaks included and explore Sumeru blindly!

About Kusanali

The youngest of the Seven, ascend five hundred years ago after the death of the previous Dendro Archon

Also known as the Flower Archon as well as Lesser Lord Kusanali as a term of affection from her people (in Chinese, this nickname is actually ‘Lucky Little Grass King/Monarch’)

According to Sayid during the Windblume Festival event in 1.4, the Sabzeruz Festival is a celebration in Sumeru that commemorates the birth of Kusanali (but whether or not this is birth in the literal sense or her ascending to godhood is not elaborated)

According to Vahid, she’s the creator of the Anahitian Blessing which is a fertilizer he claims can revitalize any barren land

About the God of the Woods

Suspected to be the previous Dendro Archon as they died during the cataclysm five hundred years ago which is when the God of Wisdom ascended

When they were alive, the trees, grass, and mud could whisper and speak but after their death, they stopped speaking

About Sumeru + the Academia 

Sumeru’s geography is a mixture of forest and desert according to Liben from the Marvelous Merchandise event and Lisa’s character stories

Eremites are a mercenary group from Sumeru and some in its ranks have strange powers. Some NPCs like Zhiqiong find their philosophies admirable, others like Nazafarin view them negatively

Xamaran, the large glowing mushroom from the Chasm, originally comes from Sumeru but it isn’t known how they got there

Knowledge is treated as a resource there, but as to whether or not that is due to the Archon herself or the Sages, is unknown

“Connections are far more precious than gold” is a Sumeru saying and some like Khedive go as far as considering repaying someone with gold rather than more knowledge or ability to obtain more knowledge as an insult (much to the Traveler’s chagrin)

Unsurprisingly as the Nation of Wisdom, Sumeru houses the leading schools in Teyvat, the most reknown being the Sumeru Academia which dates back to even before the cataclysm 

It’s so well-reknown, that students from around the world will leave their homes in order to attend the Academia

Rosalyne-Kruzchka Lohefalter, aka La Signora/The Crimson Witch, was once a student of the Academia

Lisa is another Academia alumni and she is considered the best student the Academia has seen in the past two centuries, graduating in only 2 years when it can take well over two decades for the average student to graduate

However, Lisa grew disillusioned with the pursuit of knowledge during her time in Sumeru witnessing raving mad scholars and underutilized sages. She then left and went back to Mondstadt, becoming a simple librarian

Cyno, a Sumeru native, is another Sumeru Academia researcher and an old acquaintance of Lisa’s, seen in the Teyvat Travail trailer and in the official Genshin manga

Collei is another Sumeru native who was a test subject of the Fatui who had archon residue placed within her. Thanks to Cyno, that power has been sealed and she has since returned to Sumeru

But as to what she has been up to since returning to her homeland, we don’t know but she is referenced in a Cat Tail’s Message Board sign as a girl wrapped in bandages

She’s good friends with Amber

Within the Academia there are Six Darshans that have their own foci students study but only a few are known to us

Spantamad/Aramati which specializes in studying the elements and the ley lines

Haravatat, which specializes in studying ancient runes

Amurta, unspecified specialty but theorized to be  related to ecology and plant life

Anisa, a traveling scholar in Watatsumi Island, notes being part of the Oceanographic Society 

There are different roles and progressions within the Academia

sorry to post about genshin on tumblr but i don’t want any whores from twitter seeing me. obviously i am going to talk to myself about the sumeru characters being sooo white (omitting collei bc we already knew what she looked like from the manga)

their designs are very cute!! i do like these a lot, especially in comparison to the recent inazuma characters that i just haven’t liked that much. (ayato, shinobu, heizou, etc). i really think their designs are fun & cute & cool. 

anyway here’s the thing. if sumeru is supposed to be based off egypt/the middle east....why are they all white. ok from this point on know when i say white i’m talking about like pale skin color. i know that pale people from these places actually exist & i am not implying that these people are “white” like from america or europe or whatever group "white” refers to these days. if i say some shit like “zhongli is white” you KNOW i mean that he’s pale. zhongli is still chinese. ii know this isn’t super clear but do not take me in bad faith here i’m literally just complaining to myself & my 3 followers who read my posts. anyway

i know genshin hates dark skin which is why we have exactly 2 darker characters, kaeya & xinyan. 

and maybe cyno & lansan, but they’re unreleased as of rn so they don’t count yet. & that’s still 4 out of like...40. 

we also have barnabas from the manga but i barely count this guy bc he’s a villain & looks like a racist stereotype & i think diluc beats the shit out of him anyway.

anyway. these are the 5 dark skinned characters in genshin impact right now, & 1 won’t ever be playable & the other 2 aren’t even on the horizon for being released. so it’s just xinyan & kaeya in a sea of whiteness. like cool. whatever. i get it. and you can kind of get away with this by being like “Well we’re focusing on germany. we’re focusing on china. we’re focusing on japan.” & be like haha it’s majority light people here!! 

but cmon hyv. idk i mean they’re SOOO intense about getting chinese lore right - liyue has like miles more love and care poured into its history than any other country right now - why don’t they extend this same courtesy to sumeru? 

we also knew this was coming because every single npc from sumeru - alrani, khedive, hosseini, soraya, vahid, parvaneh, sayid, that one guy that stands on a cliff at watasumi island - all of these people have been white. & i guess people were holding out hope that sumeru would be better but i’m pretty sure we all knew this was coming anyway. idk.  was hoping.

anyway idk if this is even kusanali or some fake leak made up to stir more shit but like....idk. i don’t think the god of this area should look like someone that doesn’t represent the actual area it’s based off. (i say this as if the raiden shogun isn’t walking around with purple hair, which is a known trait that lal japanese people have or some shit). 

I feel like it’s weird for her to look like this & have a name with that kind of history. idk i don’t know very much about that so i’f i’m speaking over people who do know better. in case anyone who does know better reads this. 

anyway just thinking some thoughts or whatever  . i don’t really like it but i’m not going to stop playing just bc of this. i hope they’ll learn

Picnic Date

A/N: Oh boy, my second request! And it’s about the adeptus man himself! I think I might have a grasp on his characterisation, from the game and other people’s writing of him, so I’ll do my best with this one! I think this is also my longest one yet!

You giggled to yourself as you rode the elevator up to the top floor of Wangshu Inn. A smile graced your face, and you were in the best of moods today. A brown picnic basket rested upon your arm, and you covered the lid with one hand, to make sure it stayed steady. As the elevator stopped at the top floor, you stepped out and gave a short greeting to Soraya, who was stood in her usual spot near the elevator.

“Good afternoon Soraya! Have you found any other interesting relics lately?”

“Good afternoon (Y/N)! In fact, I have! The Traveller helped me find a very interesting Jade Plate lately, so I’m researching it now! Are you off to meet your boyfriend again?”

“That’s wonderful! And yes, I am! We’re having a picnic today, I’m very excited!” Soraya giggled, and waved you off.

“Of course, I won’t hold you back any longer then. Have fun!”

“I will!” You gave a wave back to Soraya, and then you continued walking over to the railing of the Inn’s balcony. There weren’t many people here today, and Verr Goldet and the owner were most likely inside of the Inn still. A dog lay near the entryway of the inn, and it wagged its tail when it saw you, hopping up and trotting over. You grinned and bent down to scratch the dog behind it’s ears, cooing at how cute it was.

“What are you doing?” A voice came from behind you, and you beamed with excitement. You stood quickly and turned around, coming face-to-face with Xiao, your boyfriend. He stared down/up (if you’re taller) at you with those shining golden eyes of his, and you found yourself melting in them as you always did. Your arms moved to wrap around Xiao in a hug, and he returned the gesture.

“I missed you!” You cried, giggling excitedly. Xiao huffed, and probably rolled his eyes. He pulled back and pressed a quick kiss to your cheek, before leaning back completely.

“You just saw me yesterday, have you forgotten?” A pout crossed your lips, and you reached over to intertwine your fingers with his own.

“Yeah.. but I still missed you! I just want to stay with you all the time!” Xiao’s eyes softened, as they always did when he was around you, and he gently placed a hand on your cheek.

“I know you do, love, but you know you can’t. It’s too dangerous, and you are only human. I would be devastated if you got hurt...” You leaned into his hand, closing your (e/c) eyes in content. Your free hand came up to rest gently on his wrist.

“I know... but being an adventurer is dangerous too you know! But I do understand. I wish I was as strong as the Traveller, they’re super strong...” Xiao shook his head, and you opened your eyes, looking at him with big, shining orbs. This allowed you to see Xiao give you one of his rare, dedicated-only-for-you smiles.

“You are lovely just the way you are, (Y/n). You don’t have to be as strong as them just for me. Besides, they aren’t from this world anyways. They’ll have to leave eventually, and you get to stay. Now, what do you have there?” The question snapped you back to reality, and you remembered why you were here today.

“Oh, right! Let’s go on a picnic! I’ve got all the stuff here, we can go sit in a field at Guili Plains! It’ll be fun, I promise!” Xiao chuckled at how excited you were, enjoying himself just by watching the sparkle in your eye.

“Of course. But are you sure you want to go to Guili Plains? It’s been a little dangerous there lately..”

“I’m sure! I found the best spot, trust me! And besides, you can protect me!”

“Hmm, I suppose so. But I don’t want you to be in danger in the first place...” You began to pout, giving Xiao the best puppy-dog eyes you could muster.

“Oh, come on Xiao! Please please please?” Xiao blushed, and he huffed, looking away from you.

“Oh- fine. But you better have brought Almond Tofu.” You grinned, and began to tug the adeptus along. Of course you did.

After some walking, and the stabbing of a few stray hilichurls along the way, the two of you made it to Guili Plains. You grinned and dragged Xiao along behind you, the adeptus happily letting himself be handled as such. Only for you would he let himself be pulled along, as he loved you so. It made him upset at the thought that he would one day lose you, but you were ever the optimistic one, and you just took him on many dates and trips that you said would be “worth remembering”. They always were for him, and you always brought smiles to his normally grumpy face, but still, deep in his heart, he was still scared. A voice speaking managed to snap Xiao out of his thoughts.

“We’re here! Come on, come on!” You brought your boyfriend to a specific spot, underneath a tree, in a field of flowers. He gazed around the area for any potential dangers, while you pulled out your picnic blanket and spread it on the ground. You took a seat on the blanket and smiled up at the adeptus, patting the spot next to you. Xiao walked over and took a seat, sitting rather awkwardly on the blanket. You giggled at the sight.

“This is nice, we’ve never had a picnic before! All of our other dates were usually walking around Liyue Harbor or fighting monsters.” You giggled, and Xiao blushed, rubbing the back of his neck.

“Yeah I.. sorry about that. I just.. I really care for you and even if it’s been a month, I want to try to do whatever I can to make you happy. But I’m still despairingly new to this.. and I’m still always so worried for you, because I’m so dangerous to be around..” You gave him a soft smile, looking at the adeptus with gentle (e/c) eyes.

“I think you’re doing splendidly so far, Xiao. Don’t worry about it! Every second I spend with you is wonderful, no matter what. Here, have some almond tofu! I’m going to go collect some flowers really quick!” You handed your boyfriend the tofu you’d specially made for him, before standing and heading towards the colourful flowers. There were sweet flowers and Glaze Lilies, and other smaller pink and yellow flowers. You began picking a few, humming a song to yourself all the way. Xiao watched you as he ate his tofu, absolute love and adoration in his eyes. How did he ever land someone as beautiful and wonderful as you? Even if it was a worrying situation, the fact that the normally cold to others adeptus had worried for you made you feel warm inside. The two of you had known each other for nearly a year before you began dating, you having met him on your adventures through Liyue after you’d set off from Mondstat. He had been so indifferent and cold back then, but the two of you had grown closer and more fond of each other since. The memory made you happy.

Xiao had nearly finished his story when you completed what you were working on. He was so distracted in telling the tale, that he didn’t notice you reaching over towards his head. He only paused when he felt something land snugly around his hair. Xiao reached up, and felt the soft petals of the flowers you’d collected. They’d been woven into a flower crown and placed atop his head. You grinned, and placed your own flower crown on your head, giggling at your boyfriend’s shocked reaction.

“We match! Aw, you look so cute Xiao!” The adeptus blushed, and buried his face in his hands for a few moments, grumbling under his breath something about “cute” and “love you so much”. You giggled again. Xiao sat up and reached his hands out, cupping your cheeks and pulling your face close to his, entrapping your lips in a kiss. Now it was your turn to blush, and Xiao buried his face in the crook of your neck, scooting closer to wrap his arms around you in a hug. You smiled and returned the hug, rubbing gentle circles on his back.

“...Sweet Archons... what did I ever do to deserve you? You’re just so....hn...” Xiao muttered into your neck, nuzzling you as he hugged you tighter. After a few moments of being in the hug, the two of you broke apart, and smiled.

The Archon war feels kind of pointless ngl. The gods lived in relative peace before so what started that brutal era?

How or why it started is still unknown.

Scholars in Teyvat believe it started because of Seven Divine Seats in Celestia. Though, funnily enough, what we know about the Mondstadt archon war, that makes no sense. Because nobody involved was actually fighting /for/ the Archon War. They were fighting a different battle that just happened to coincide!

So, it's up in the air still.

It's described as "an era of power struggles" so from the information we have now. It seems less like a proper war, and more like a lot of little firefights that blew up into this big thing.

But we don't actually know, unfortunately.

Soraya says that it had to do with the Divine seats. But apparently not all Gods participated with the intent to win a seat anyways. Some fought to defend land, while others tried to save people from the destruction that the wars caused.

There is also the alternative theory that it wasn't Seven Divine Seats, but that when a God died, so did their seat. And the Seven just happened to keep their seats. But given that Genshins/Allogenes can ascend to Godhood and also the fact that new Archons can be crowned. This doesn't make particular sense either, even if you do include the whole Decarabarian's "crumbling of an ancient seat of divinity" thing.
