[Video] Chilly Gonzales präsentiert neue Single "Poem"!

Nachdem Chilly Gonzales in der vergangenen Woche sein neues Album ankündigte, erscheint heute ein weiterer Song aus dem neuen Werk nebst Video. "Poem" ist nach "F*CK WAGNER" die zweite Auskopplung aus dem Album "Gonzo", das am 13. September über Gentle Threat erscheinen wird.   “I hear the hum of nothing / So there's nothing left / Except / To accept / The ending”.

Umtriebig wie eh und je, hat Gonzo kürzlich auch "F*CK WAGNER" in einer bemerkenswerten Performance mit dem Rundfunk Tanzorchester Ehrenfeld bei Jan Böhmermann im ZDF Magazin Royale performt. Außerdem spielte er ausverkaufte Shows in Hamburg (Laeiszhalle), Leipzig (Gewandhaus) und Berlin (Tempodrom) und startete, begleitend zur ersten Single, eine Petition zur Umbenennung der Richard-Wagner-Straße in Köln, in die Tina-Turner-Straße.

in my ideal vision, when they finally get in something resembling a relationship (as adults, they were Not There as teenagers), it's because they both want it, which means they unlock previously forbidden features with each other like sharing a bed instead of a couch (you all know about my weird obsession with skk and couches), but also freely touching.

Dazai is a rather tactile person; my guy is freed after 2 weeks in prison and the first thing he does is dance, poke at, lean/hug and play with the hair of the first non-evil person (a stranger) he meets. Being with Chuuya, he constantly finds himself in Chuuya's bubble, and indulges in ways he usually can't with others. That often means direct skin contact, not even with ulterior motives, but really just because he is allowed and he wants to.

Chuuya on the other hand has never done something gently ever: he is fierce, he cares and loves intensely, and he never lets go, but he barely knows the concept of a reassuring gesture (working on it). Dazai being in his bubble wouldn't bother him at all by that point, but the handsy part? it's awkward. needs some getting used to. It's a learning opportunity.

And when Chuuya gets used to it and finally makes a move to return the favour? it's Dazai who short-circuits.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I love how insincere Jean Valjean is whenever he interacts with Javert in Montreuil-sur-Mer. Whenever Jean Valjean compliments Javert, it’s never reflective of his true feelings; it’s always just empty insincere polite flattery he’s using in an effort to get Javert to behave the way he wants (usually to get Javert to stop talking, stop being suspicious of him, and go away.)

When Jean Valjean is actually alone and thinking honestly about how he feels about Javert, during Tempest in a Skull, he refers to him as “that Javert, who has been annoying me so long (…) that frightful hunting dog!” And enthusiastically hopes he will leave town. Jean Valjean is described as “glacial” to him, resenting his cruelty towards Fantine.

When Jean Valjean insists at the police station that Javert is an honest man and proper police wouldn’t arrest Fantine, he doesn’t actually believe that— Jean Valjean knows, from experience, what proper policework means. He has been on the receiving end of “proper policework” all of his life. Fantine is legally “in the wrong” and proper police would arrest her, it’s just that the laws are vile. Jean Valjean is just lying and saying whatever thing he thinks will manipulate Javert into letting Fantine go; he knows Javert wants to do policework properly, so he pretends that a proper police officer would let Fantine go. It doesn’t work, because both he and Javert understand that this is not the truth, and a proper police officer *would* arrest a sex worker who violently assaulted a wealthy man. As a result, when his polite conciliatory bootlicking fails, Jean Valjean eventually needs to fall back on using his Authority as mayor to force Javert to leave Fantine alone.

But again, the funniest way this manifests is during the scene where Javert attempts to have himself fired.

Because Jean Valjean spends most of the scene dissociating, panicking over the revelation about Champmathieu, wrapped up in his own head, not really thinking about Javert at all and barely listening to him. Then he attempts to say whatever empty polite nothings will end the conversation without raising Javert’s suspicions. This is something we’re later told is something he’s doing solely out of terror of “the great danger” of Javert’s presence.

Jean Valjean doesn’t really think Javert is a “good man” who he “esteems.” He just wants the conversation to be over without arousing any suspicion, so he treats Javert with empty bootlicking deferential (unsuspicious) politeness.

…but sadly, this is the wrong Dialogue Option. Jean Valjean then becomes helplessly trapped in a series of Unskippable Javert Cutscenes.

Jean Valjean is trying to treat Javert with this bland indifferent (unsuspicious) politeness in order to end the conversation quickly and unsuspiciously, and Javert responds by going on a series of longed passionate Deranged tangents where he pulls out a Pepe Silvia conspiracy board and explains why the concept of kindness enrages him.

It’s very powerful.

[Album] Chilly Gonzales veröffentlicht neues Album "Gonzo" am 13. September!

Nach zwölf Jahren, in denen vornehmlich Instrumental-Alben erschienen (von zwei Solo-Piano-Platten über Kammermusik bis hin zu gemeinsamen Alben mit Boys Noize, Jarvis Cocker, Plastikman und sogar einem Weihnachts-Bestseller), hat Chilly Gonzales sich eine Menge von der Seele zu schreiben.

Die Notizbücher, die seit dem 2011 veröffentlichten orchestralen Rap-Opus "The Unspeakable Chilly Gonzales" leer blieben, füllten sich seit Anfang 2022 wieder mit Worten, nachdem Gonzo ein langes Jahrzehnt der Psychoanalyse beendet hatte. Ein Zufall? Wohl kaum. Hinter all den Wortspielen und dem Namedropping (u.a. Ron Jeremy, Marie Kondo, Dschingis Khan und Philip Glass) offenbaren die Songs, die es auf das neue Album "Gonzo" (13. September über Gentle Threat) geschafft haben, eine anhaltende Spannung zwischen Überzeugung und Bekenntnis, Wahn und Selbsterkenntnis und schließlich Dankbarkeit. Auch das Spannungsfeld zwischen Kreativität und Kommerz ist für Gonzo ein Thema, das ihn schon lange beschäftigt. Ist dies wirklich ein Rap-Album? Instrumentalstücke wie das strawinsky-eske "Fidelio" oder "Eau de Cologne" erinnern das Publikum an Gonzos selbsterklärte Rolle als “musical genius“, während sich die Worte und Reime der vorangegangenen Strophen im Ohr festsetzen.

Schon mit 16 Jahren wurde Gonzo von seinem Vater zu Wagner-Opern nach Bayreuth geschleppt. Diese Erfahrung prägte ihn fürs Leben. Der junge Teenager war von der Musik überwältigt, verstand aber, dass ihr Komponist ein monströser Mensch war. Aus diesem Zwiespalt heraus entstand die aktuelle Single "F*ck Wagner", das genauso gut ein Lied über Kanye West, die Cancel-Culture oder die tragische Menschlichkeit aller Artists sein könnte. Die in "F*ck Wagner" angedeutete Trennung von Kunst und Künstler verlangt von uns, Wagners (oder Kanyes) Musik zu feiern und gleichzeitig die Freiheit zu haben, “f*ck them“ zu sagen. Deshalb ruft Gonzo, der den Song kürzlich auch im ZDF Magazin Royale performt hat, in seiner Wahlheimat Köln derzeit eine Kampagne ins Leben, um den Namen genau dieses verhassten Mannes aus der Richard-Wagner-Straße zu entfernen und durch den von Tina Turner zu ersetzen, die Köln als Exil-Amerikanerin einst zu ihrer Wahlheimat gemacht hat, so wie auch Gonzo als Kanadier 2012.

Der einzige Gastsänger auf diesem Album ist Detroit OG Bruiser Wolf, der auf "Open the Kimono" eine Strophe voll mit spielerischem Swing und mystischer Lyrik beisteuert. Nach dem durchschlagenden Erfolg von "French Kiss" (mit mehreren Radiohits, in denen Gonzo auf französisch rappt), kam er zu einer Erleuchtung: das Schreiben in einer Fremdsprache kann einen Autor einschränken und zugleich auch befreien. Gonzo hat den größten Teil seines Erwachsenenlebens in Deutschland verbracht und zollt auf "I.C.E." den Höhen und Tiefen des Lebens in seiner neuen Heimat Tribut: “Mein Deutschrap? Schnapsidee / Aber ich mach das anyway“. Das Album erreicht seinen Höhepunkt mit "Neoclassical Massacre", einer Schimpftirade in Reimform, in der jene Artists angeprangert werden, die Musik machen, nur um sich der Algorithmus-Logik von Spotify-Playlisten anzupassen (“Ich hasse es, wenn meine Ohren nicht überrascht werden“). Ein kompliziertes Vorhaben von jemandem, der 2004 mit seinem ersten ikonischen "Solo Piano"-Album fast versehentlich den Anfang der “neoklassischen“ Musik begründet hat.

oh no! never! he's not the violent type At All - with aus, i like to adhere to canon as much as possible, and from what i can gather... Wally is quite the pacifist!

so in this au, he's occasionally violent, but only by Necessity. out of a need to protect his friends. he doesn't enjoy it in the least, and in the early stages of the timeline, he himself got hurt quite a bit due to his hesitance to fight back / inherently peaceful nature. it takes him many years to get to the point where he attacks perceived threats on sight. it doesn't come naturally to him, and he Never looks forward to it - even when he's used to it. he avoids conflict when he can & does his best to prevent it

Letzte Woche, am 3. April veröffentlichte Gonzo seine neue Single "F*CK WAGNER", begleitet von einer Live-Performance beim ZDF Magazin Royale am vergangenen Freitag. Auf F*CK WAGNER nimmt sich Gonzo der Cancel Culture an und geht dieser höchst aktuellen Frage ohne Umschweife auf den Grund: Sollten wir den Künstler und das Werk trennen? Chilly Gonzales rappt über monströse historische und zeitgenössische Figuren von Wagner bis Kanye, deren kultureller Beitrag nichtsdestotrotz unbestreitbar ist - roh, ungefiltert, frontal, ohne seinen Sinn für Melodie zu verlieren.
