In Praise of Tom Hiddleston and Female Directors
As a female director (albeit of Theater and not Film) I have been feeling a little frustrated once again as awards season brings no nominations for women. This led me (as many things do, lol) to thinking about my favorite Muse, Tom Hiddleston.
One of the things that I love about TH is willingness and enthusiasm to work with female directors, and on thinking about it I realized that this allyship has also benefited him as well. Case in point:
1. His first movie, Unrelated, was directed by Joanna Hogg. Now, of course all of us see Hiddles as the perfect Beautiful Boy but imagine if this movie had been directed by a man. In that case, Oakley, the handsome younger man who charms and tempts the 40 something woman, would almost certainly be cast with some young beef cake actor, or at very least had them bulk up in order to play the role. This is who male directors seem to think we desire. Instead, Hogg casts TH and boy does she sell him. Oakley is a little shit, but the way he is lit, framed, directed makes him all but irresistible. The female gaze sees all of his ethereal beauty and shares it with us.
Tumblr media
2. Next we have my personal favorite, Henry V in The Hollow Crown. In his big leading episode, Tom is once again directed by a woman, Thea Sharrock. Again, look at how his is shot. The female gaze follows him riding in like a hero from our collective imagination in his opening shot. He is strong and dangerous, savage even at times, without ever loosing that thread of empathy that Henry struggles to clamp down. And do I even have to mention the proposal scene? Watch that and tell me it isn’t pure wish fulfillment for the majority of people who fancy men. I liked him when I watched Loki, but Hollow Crown made me fall so deep down the rabbit hole that I may never climb out again (and honestly, I’m okay with this).
Tumblr media
3. Lastly, we come to the role that pushed him over the edge into superstardom, The Night Manager. Can there be any doubt that this miniseries was directed by a woman? The entire show was an advertisement for how gorgeous he is. Yes, there are some lovely shots of Elizabeth Debicki in various states of undress, but Pine is the major eye candy here. See him in finely tailored suits, see him astride a motorcycle, see him bathing, both in a waterfall and in a shower covered in mud, see his much lauded English countryside looking all round and pert... it just goes on and on. It is not just the visual that Susana Biers gets either. Unlike other spies of film and television, Jonathan is emotional, chivalrous, and above all intelligent. Tom nails the role and the world loved him for it.
Tumblr media
I am not saying that male directors do not make Tom look good (hello Conrad’s arms) or play to his strengths (see the psychological beauty of Adam). I just believe there is something to be said for the qualities that female directors can bring out.
In short (ha, sorry, this ran on looooong, lol) Tom trusts women directors more than many of his fellow actors, and I think the results are that he shows a vulnerability in his work that helps make him more than just another action star. Women have helped make him the actor he is today, and I don’t believe the fact that his last two directors were women is an accident. He said in his interview for Leading Lady Parts that he needed to work with more directors (he had worked with five at that point I believe) and he has been as good as his word. Another reason to love this man.
* I also want to make a special shout out to stage director Josey Rourke, who has the career that I want and gave us this amazing contribution:

Tonight, Paloma is consumed by a fiery fervor, ignited by the series of eventful days she's encountered. Each moment pulses with vibrant energy as she eagerly anticipates taking the stage, a surge of excitement coursing through her veins. With every fiber of her being electrified, she yearns to pour forth the myriad emotions that have enveloped her, releasing them into the world through music.
Between Javier’s ‘will they won’t they’ repartee and August’s piquant personality; these men have been bending her will to remain strong. It’s a peculiar thing, reminiscent to the stories she reads or movies she watches.
Paloma hasn’t stopped to think about it in a logical sense, where these newfound ‘relationships’ can go, and frankly she doesn’t want to stop and think. She just wants to be … allow herself to indulge in the pleasantries of the attention.
She’s at the bar hours before she’s set to do her gig, cheerfully enjoying the company of her best friend as she drinks her signature root beer and muddled cherry mocktail. She eyes the new karaoke machine that’s just recently been acquired and leans in to get Sloane’s attention.
“ Has anyone used it? ” She gestures to the machine and Slo shakes her head, wiping down the counter.
“ No, but I think you’d be the perfect person to break it in. Pretty sure I saw some Madonna songs on there… ” Sloane tells her in a sing-song tone, causing Paloma’s eyes to light up and she hops off the bar stool to walk up to the machine that consisted of a large television set and the actual karaoke machine.
She plays around with it for a second, familiarizing herself with the controls before she’s skimming through the dozens of available songs.
The evening crowd has started to file in, she doesn’t even realize since she’s been too busy figuring the machine out. She lets out a delighted sound of glee once she sees that Like a Prayer is one of the available songs and wastes no time in selecting it.
The song begins and she takes her position on the stage, few eyes on her. She doesn’t even need the large teleprompter for the lyrics. Bringing the microphone up to her lips, she begins to sing the intro softly…
Once the music picks up, Paloma sways her hips when she needs to, keeping up with the song as it’s one of her all time favorites. She’s done a variant of this performance in her bedroom with her hair brush many of times.
As the final notes of the song fade away, Paloma finds herself nearly breathless, her heart still racing from the intensity of her performance. The thunderous applause washes over her like a wave, enveloping her in a blanket of appreciation. With a wide smile adorning her face, she gracefully bows and waves to the audience before delicately placing the microphone back on its stand. As the jukebox resumes its melody, filling the void left by her absence, Paloma makes her way back to her spot at the bar counter, basking in the warmth of the moment.
“ You know how to put on a show! ” The compliment comes from a redhead sitting in the stool closest to her.
“ Thank you. ” Paloma’s mouth curves into a smile as she eyes her. A bride sash draped horizontally over her torso with the small veil clipped in her hair and she’s dressed in all white. There’s three other woman behind her whom she assumes is the bridal party. “ And congratulations. ” She raises her glass that had been replenished courtesy of her best friend.
They cheers then engage in some small talk when the bride, Wendy, confirms to Paloma that they are out for her bachelorette celebration. They had some car troubles in the middle of their travels to Austin which led to a rest stop here in Seminary until morning.
It wasn’t how she had planned to celebrate the trip, but there was nothing she could do about it so she’s making the best of the situation.
This has an idea pop into Paloma’s head, empathetic as ever, and she says her goodbyes once the band arrives. The plan is simple enough; perform some of her more sultry songs for the stranded bridal party in hopes to make their night a little more entertaining. It doesn’t take much before she’s got her band on board, tapping on the microphone to get everyone’s attention when she returns to the stage.
–––––––––––––––––––
Javier did not plan on being at The Whiskey Fox tonight, especially with the lack of sleep he’s endured recently. Not that he hasn’t dealt with it before, but it’s been on an unforgiving incline as of late.
The worst part about his insomnia is how inconsistent it can be. He could go weeks with little to no sleep then suddenly a period where it’s all he does. Hasn’t hit the latter of the cycle just yet, but he can feel it creeping up on him at an agonizing pace.
It’s a complete shit show and infuriatingly lonely. He wouldn’t admit to it, however.
Exhausting himself throughout the day with hopes that he’ll be bone-tired by the end of the night, he makes an impromptu stop at the bar where hopefully a few glasses of bourbon will have him easing into sleep the second he makes it home.
It’s a long shot, nothing irregular of what he does on a regular night, but fuck he really needs to get some rest. He can only function off coffee and nicotine for so long.
The bar is in high spirits the second he steps foot in, and with that comes the reminder that it’s a weekend night which means…
Eyes drift over to the stage and sure enough, she’s front and center, and he fights the urge to gravitate towards her.
Instead, Javier opts to sit at the bar, easily getting Sloane’s attention and ordering his bourbon.
“ Y’know… I think this is the first time you’ve in been here while I’ve been on shift. You hidin’ from me, handsome? ” She begins with a teasing simper, expertly pouring the drink.
Javier chuckles briefly, giving her a once-over, “ Had I known a pretty little thing like you was tendin’ the bar I woulda been in here much more consistently. ” Flirtatious as ever, despite his exhaustion, brown eyes meeting her gaze as she diligently sets the glass in front of him with a vivacious grin.
“ Oooh, you’re a sweet talker. I like that. Not many darin’ boys ‘round here. ” She leans forward, making a point to press her breasts together to show off her cleavage which he shamelessly ogles.
“ S’a good thing I’m not a boy , sweetheart. ” Bringing the glass up for a sip, their stare isn’t broken and she cocks her head to the side in interest.
“ A great thing, even. You’re all man. ” Her southern accent drips with sensuality, the suggestion hanging heavy in the air between them. For a fleeting moment, Javier entertains the idea of inviting her back to his place to relieve some tension and get some rest, but before he can act, she's whisked away by another patron, leaving him to ponder the tantalizing chemistry that sizzled between them.
Divine intervention, Javi thinks, since his interest for her drops the second he hears Paloma’s voice. Placing some cash on the counter, he moves over to the table he’s accustomed to sitting at, distancing himself from the distraction with great tits behind the bar.
His attention now fully on the woman on stage, her honeyed voice and the movements of her hands as they trail along the length of her body, diligently tracing her curves.
Her attire is understated yet alluring. Clad in a sleek black dress with a sweetheart neckline, its hem teasingly grazing the curve of her thigh, she exudes an effortless elegance. The mid-thigh high boots she wears elevate her stature, causing her back to arch ever so subtly, drawing his gaze to the enticing curve of her ass. With each graceful movement, she exudes a magnetic allure, her hips swaying with a tantalizing rhythm that ignites Javier's imagination, conjuring images of her poised above him in a passionate embrace with his cock drilling deep inside of her.
The glass in his hand feels suddenly heavy as his thoughts drift to her, so he takes a long sip, relishing the fiery sweetness that ignites his senses. Mesmerized by her performance, he finds himself completely entranced, lost in the melody of her voice and the grace of her movements. As Paloma begins her descent from the stage, weaving her way through the tables scattered around the room, a sense of anticipation stirs within him. With bated breath, he shifts in his seat, eagerly awaiting her arrival, his heart pounding in anticipation of her presence.
She continues her performance, tastefully interacting the patrons nearby, pocketing bills that are being handed to her. She handles it suavely, tucking the wads of cash in the band of her boot that’s pressed up against her thigh.
Javier’s eyes fall to the area as she does this, running his tongue over his teeth and truly contemplating if staying away was worth it all. He digs into his back pocket, fishing out the leather wallet and swiftly pulling out whatever was in it to give her.
It’s then that she approaches him, the spotlight making Paloma look more radiant than any star he’s ever seen. Their eyes meet in a enchanted gaze, his lip tugs up into a cocky and expectant smirk in which she matches before slowly rounding behind him, almost singing in his ear.
“ Te deseo, cariño, boy, it's you I desire. ”
Javier’s jaw ticks as her touch runs along the expanse of his broad shoulders, and before she’s able to leave him completely, he slips the bills into her palm before letting it drop from his grasp.
That line was a seductive invitation, crafted for him alone, and he can feel it in the way her lips curve into a knowing smirk. Was it penned with him in mind, sung in Spanish to tantalize him? The notion ignites a fierce longing within Javier, his skin tingling with anticipation. Her lyrics, saturated with desire, mirror the very same craving she stirs within him. The hunger in her eyes speaks volumes, a silent plea for the passion they both yearn to share.
She finishes the song, the table of a bridal party praising her drunkenly as the music dies down and everyone begins their applause. Some whistling at her, too.
Javier remains unmoved, reclining effortlessly in his chair, one arm draped casually over its back. His gaze is fixed on her, unwavering, a fresh cigarette dangling from his lips, the tendrils of smoke curling around him lazily. He makes no attempt to conceal his admiration, indifferent to whether she notices his lingering stare. The bold move she just made only serves to fuel his desire, leaving his infatuation as intense and consuming as ever.
It's evident that Paloma seeks his pursuit, craving the thrill of his relentless chase until she willingly offers herself completely. Though Javier typically refrains from chasing pussy, he finds himself captivated by the enticing dynamics of their relationship—a tantalizing dance of push and pull. This experience is vastly different from his usual encounters, where women often yield quickly to his advances. With Paloma, however, the challenge persists, defying his expectations and fueling his intrigue.
For a time, Javier reveled in the thrill of it all—the fleeting encounters with women at brothels, the allure of one-night stands. The fast-paced rhythm of constant attention and swift liaisons kept him occupied and amused. Yet now, a shift has occurred. He finds himself drawn to the unhurried pace of whatever undefined connection he shares with Paloma. It's a departure from the whirlwind of his past experiences, and despite its ambiguity, it holds a newfound allure, captivating him in its gradual unfolding.
It’s building tension, prolonged foreplay to a shared fantasy that’ll only bring them both conflict. Conflict that he doesn’t want to be burdened with…
Yet, she makes it so hard to stay the fuck away.
As she vanishes into the depths of the back area, Javier swiftly drains the last remnants of his drink, feeling more restless than when he had come in.
–––––––––––––––––––
It has been days since her last performance, yet she hasn’t stopped thinking about that night. It was her first time doing anything remotely sensual as she had–– and she liked it. It gave her a lot of real confidence and not that of which she pretends she obtains.
She’s already preparing herself for the scrutiny she’ll receive from a certain group of gossips at church for putting on such a scandalous performance.
Whatever, she thinks, people were going to talk shit regardless and she’s never felt more sexier and empowered. The self-assurance she got from people handing her tips and receiving Javier’s undivided attention was exhilarating.
It had been more than enough for her to quickly improvise a specific lyric in her song. For him .
Paloma is at a loss to rationalize her impulsive behavior as she approached him, swept up in a sensation of allure akin to a siren's call, drawing in a lost sea captain with an irresistible charm.
He’d been more preoccupied than usual the week beforehand, leaving Paloma to grapple with an unexpected yearning for his presence. Their interactions had become fleeting, confined to brief exchanges in passing or hurried conversations over the phone, often revolving around attempts to reach the sheriff.
So seeing him there that night, very present at her gig, she knew she had to do something big to give him the hint that she is very, very interested in doing something, anything with him. Consequences be damned.
Paloma won’t be the one to take it there, that’s a rookie move. If Javier is as interested as he appears to be, then she fully intends to practice some patience to have him crawling over to her .
Would he actually do that, though? She only knows bits and pieces of his romantic endeavors and from the little information she’s gathered; he doesn’t seem like the type to chase but she could be wrong.
There is no harm in trying to seduce him, really, and if he rejects her then she’ll take the hint and move on. It’s not like she wants to date the man or have him fall to one knee asking for her hand in marriage.
No, Paloma just really wants to get laid. Too many nights have came and went where all she’s dreamed of is the hot, older deputy sheriff screwing her into oblivion.
Then at the bar… he actually gave her money, matter of fact, he had been the biggest tipper of the night. Paloma contemplated giving the cash back to him, thinking it was entirely too much, but she talked herself out of the idea solely because she found the transaction incredibly hot.
With caution not to invest her entire focus in him, she’s also been seeing August. Their time together brings forth a distinct experience, stirring uncertainty about her romantic attachment to him. It wasn't until yesterday afternoon, amidst the tranquil shade of a sprawling oak tree, engrossed in shared reading, that an almost kiss cast light on her true sentiments towards him.
Their connection pulsates with an undeniable chemistry, his gaze lavishing upon her as if she were the rarest gem. United by shared passions for literature and idyllic beliefs, he breathes vitality into the stifling surroundings. While the opportunity for a shared kiss tantalizes, Paloma's thoughts persistently drift toward Javier, rendering the moment bittersweet.
Lost in her own thoughts amidst the task of pulling weeds from the garden, she remains oblivious to the persistent ringing of the landline inside. Only as the sound penetrates her consciousness does she snap out of her reverie. Hastily removing her gardening gloves, she reaches for the phone just before its final ring.
It’s Lola from The Whiskey Fox letting her know that a letter has just been dropped off–– addressed specifically for Paloma.
She is confused yet intrigued at the news, and in no time she’s in town; sitting on top of the counter ripping the poor envelope open and scanning the words on the piece of paper.
Apparently, the bride who was here last weekend contracts acts from all over Texas to perform at the state fair in Dallas. Seems like Paloma was conspicuous enough to warrant an invite.
A much bigger crowd, her first real chance to branch out by doing something she’s genuinely passionate about.
After freaking out about it with the ladies at the bar, even taking a celebratory tequila shot, Paloma is racing to make it to the station to share the good news with her dad.
She hurriedly hops off her bike, not even bothering to chain it to the rack as she snatches the letter and saunters up the steps and into the building overly excited.
Clearly, she’s interrupted something as both men’s heads snap in her direction with heavy, worried looks in their eyes when she barges in.
“ What’s wrong? Are you okay?! ” Her father steps towards her, scanning her for any injuries.
“ Yes I’m fine daddy, ” she tucks her hair behind her ears to contain some of her excitement as she feels some of the leftover apprehensiveness from before she arrived, “ I’m just excited to show you this, look! I got invited to preform at the state fair! ” She shoves the paper into his chest and he turns it around so he can read its contents.
Her eyes are bright in anticipation, searching his stoic face for a reaction.
“ Sweetheart, this is wonderful... ” He trails off and her smile begins to fade at his tone.
“ What? What’s wrong? ” She questions, eyes flickering over to Javier who stands almost awkwardly behind the sheriff.
“ A girl in Fayette has gone missing. We just got the call. About to head over to help ‘em out. ” The news has Paloma drawing in a breath, all the enthusiasm in her body evaporating as he hands the paper back to her.
“ O-Oh, that’s–– ”
“ This is amazing news, babygirl. We’ll talk about it more when I get home later, alright? We gotta get goin’. ”
The dismissal breaks her, and there’s a second where her demeanor shows it but it’s only temporarily as she nods understandingly then steps aside to allow him to maneuver his way into his office.
“ State fair, huh? That’s huge, congrats bella . ” Javier’s voice keeps her from scurrying away and she gives him a small smile.
“ Thanks, but seems like there’s more important things to focus on. ” Paloma won’t be self-centered by taking up any more of their valuable time. A girl is missing and if they want to come out on top then their focus has to remain on her and not Paloma’s trivial news.
“ You’re right but that doesn’t mean we can’t be happy for you. ” She lifts her gaze from her shoes up to meet his at the use of ‘we’ and she melts, instantly.
In his captivating brown eyes, there's a delicate balance of gentleness and resolve, causing her knees to weaken slightly. As she meets his gaze, she discerns the subtle golden flecks that add a compassionate depth to his stare. It's as if his eyes extend a warm invitation, enveloping her in a silent understanding that speaks volumes.
“ Yeah, I guess. Just hate that all this is still happenin’. I’m assumin’ y’all aren’t any closer to findin’ out who’s doin’ all this, huh? ” Since her father doesn’t tell her anything except what he needs to, Paloma isn’t fully aware of the exasperatingly severity or statuses of the cases.
Javier lets out a heavy sigh, thumb dragging across his trimmed mustache then bottom lip and her eyes zero in on the movement, which she shouldn’t find as attractive as she does. “ No, but things like this always take time. It’s the most frustrating thing about the job. ”
Paloma nods, having somewhat of an understanding, “ Then I’ll get outta y’alls hair. Leave the solvin’ the mystery and savin’ the day to the pros. ” Her nose crinkles as she lets out a soft laugh in attempts to lighten the mood.
He gives her a smile that doesn’t quite reach his eyes and she feels that disappointment from earlier fizzle away at the sight, leaving her momentarily breathless. Javier's allure is undeniable, his rugged handsomeness coupled with an air of competence that captivates her completely. In that moment, she senses something more than mere physical attraction. It's as if small, fleeting moments like these are chipping away at the salacious layers of their connection, revealing something deeper and more profound beneath.
“ I’ll see you soon, yeah? Got those parts for dear Darla comin’ in any day now. You’ll be cruisin’ around town in no time. ” He winks at her and she giggles softly, blood pooling at her cheeks in a deep blush that he notices immediately and it makes his heart swell.
“ I’m lookin’ forward to it. ” Paloma replies, a bit more shyly than she’d like but that’s just what happens when you’re affected by Javier Peña’s irresistible charm.
They hold each other's gaze for a few fleeting seconds, Paloma losing herself in the depths of his warm brown eyes, while Javier savors every precious moment of her undivided attention. Their silent exchange is interrupted as Romeo emerges from his office, oblivious to yet another fleeting moment shared between his daughter and the deputy sheriff, lost in their own world of unspoken emotions.
–––––––––––––––––––
She is well aware of the copious amount of time she’s been putting in to her performance for the fair, spending all her free time at the bar with the band rehearsing or in her room piecing together her outfit.
This is her moment to showcase her mastery of her craft, and she seizes it with unwavering determination. To an outsider, the prospect of performing at a mediocre state fair, hours away from home, might seem insignificant. But to her, it's everything. Every chord struck, every lyric sung carries the weight of her passion and dedication. This performance isn't just about the venue; it's about pouring her heart and soul into the music, ensuring that every note resonates with sincerity and purpose.
At first, her father had been really excited for her… but as the days dragged by and tensions with the missing person case increased, he began to grow more cynical about it. With the way things were going, he wouldn’t be able to accompany her and that’s when all the unnecessary comments began. Romeo began to bring up the crime rate in Dallas, hypotheticals of what would happen if she were to get stuck on the side of the road on her way there, even insinuating that her band (which consisted of four members from their church) wouldn’t be as reliable as she knows them to be.
It pissed her off every time he opened his mouth to talk on the matter. At first she just ignored him or said something neutral to appease him, but now that the date was slowly approaching, she found it difficult to keep her rebuttals to herself. How many times was she going to have to remind him that she was a grown up? For some reason, he thinks she’s still a meek sixteen year old girl that needs his protection.
This is what led to the current argument. Him reluctant to let her go and Paloma insistent on going with or without his ‘permission’. Before it has the chance to get out of hand, there’s a knock at the front door and she uses it as an excuse to end the conversation.
Sighing heavily, she opens the wooden door to find Javier on the other side and immediately her frown disappears and she smiles sweetly up at him.
Amidst her intense preparation for the forthcoming performance and his deep engagement at the station, their encounters have become infrequent, a departure from their usual routine. Yet, despite the scarcity of interaction, their bodies seem attuned to each other's presence, responding instinctively to the silent symphony of their unspoken connection. Each glance exchanged, every fleeting touch carries a weight of familiarity and longing, painting a silent portrait of their unspoken desires.
“ Hey cowboy, whatcha doin’ here? ” She crosses her arms against her chest, the screen door still separating the two of them.
“ I told you I’d have the parts in any day now. ” It’s then that she sees a cardboard box in his possession and realization dawns on her.
“ Oh my god–– no way! Thank fuckin’–– god you’re such a saint. ” Javier chuckles at her words which has her feeling fucking giddy as she opens the screen door and steps aside to let him in.
“ M’not a saint, princesa , but your kind words are appreciated. ” They walk side by side, her shoulder softly brushing against his arm, to the kitchen where her father is.
“ Daddy, Javier’s here to finish workin’ on sweet ‘ol Darla. ” There’s a tinge of bitterness lacing her words as she addresses her father, their previous argument still fresh on her mind but she would rather throw herself off a bridge than finish said conversation in front of their company.
The two men greet each other, making small talk as Romeo thanks Javier for all he’s doing for both the town and the help he’s been extending to his daughter. Paloma boredly leans against the doorframe, waiting for them to wrap up their conversation and Javi can feel her impatience.
When they finally breakaway, It’s just him and Paloma in the shed, Romeo stuck inside taking an important call. Instead of perching herself on the chair like last time, she’s leaned over the hood of the car with him, close enough to be able to feel the heat radiating from her body.
“ I didn’t interrupt something earlier, did I? ” Javier asks, picking up on the tension between her and her dad in the kitchen just then.
Paloma doesn’t reply right away, eyes trained on his working hands within the engine.
“ You did but it was a good thing. We were havin’ a small argument that was about to turn into a real big fight. He’s being so anal about not lettin’ be go up to Dallas for the fair. He doesn’t seem to understand that I’m goin’ regardless. ” She scoffs with a shake of her head, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
“ He just worries about you… doesn’t necessarily go about it in the best way but he just wants to make sure you’re safe. ” Picks his words as carefully as he can, gaze flickering to her face briefly before returning to the task at hand.
“ I know, he’s just so stubborn about it. ”
“ Sounds like someone I know. ”
She lets out a genuine laugh, the one that involuntarily brings a small smile to his face and she elbows him playfully.
“ He’ll come around. He sees how passionate you are about your music. Like you said, you’re goin’ to do it with or without him. ” Paloma doesn’t say anything, thinking his words over knowing that Javi’s right but he’s underestimating how adamant her father can be.
Finally getting the last piece screwed in tight, he stands to his full height and wipes his hands off on a rag, “ Alright, go start her up and see if she’s cooperatin’ finally. ” Javier gestures towards the driver’s seat as he slams the hood close and she excitedly leaves his side, flinging the door open and sliding in.
The engine starts with ease and the delighted cheer that comes from Paloma is more rewarding than anything he’s deserving of.
She hops out, throwing her arms around his neck in a hug that takes him back, literally, stumbling over his feet slightly but they’re kept upright as his hands naturally fall to her waist.
In this moment of exquisite closeness, their bodies meld together, igniting a fervent blaze of desire within him. The sensation of her pressed against him sends shivers of longing coursing through his veins, a primal urge that pulses with raw intensity. Her scent, an intoxicating blend of freshly bloomed flowers and ripe fruit, envelops him like a gentle summer breeze, evoking a sense of timeless enchantment he never wishes to leave. His touch against her velvety skin due to her cropped shirt ignites a symphony of sensations. The gentle curve of her back beneath his fingertips, the softness of her curves, beckon him into a world of unspoken longing and endless passion. Javier savors the electric thrill of her response, the subtle shivers that ripple across her skin in response to his touch. A satisfied smirk graces his lips.
“ Thank you so much, Javi. You have no idea how happy you’ve just made me. ” Paloma pulls away first, but not completely, and the position they’re left in is much more intimate than it should be.
His breath fans over her face, which is just inches apart, if he really wanted to; he could lean in and press his lips against hers…
And he really, really wants to but with Romeo just around the corner–– he won’t risk getting caught. No matter how enticing and easy it’d be to give in.
“ Javi? What happened to officer or cowboy? ” He teases her, pinching at her hips and she pushes at his chest, finally breaking their embrace.
“ Right, forgive me for wantin’ to have a moment of authenticity. ” Paloma playfully rolls her eyes, “ Thank you so much, officer . You have no idea how… ” She trails off suddenly and his brow cocks inquisitively.
“ You have no idea how satisfied you’ve left me. ”
The sultriness in her voice, gleam in her eyes and those long lashes batting up at him all innocently does nothing but fuel his craving for her.
“ If this is all it took to leave you satisfied, hermosa , then you’re in worse shape than I thought. ”
She bites down on her lower lip, “ Thank god I have you here to help me out, hmm? ”
And for a split second it feels like something might happen but ultimately it doesn’t.
“ Just doin’ what I can, cariño . You get any more car problems just call me and not that mecánico de mierda (shitty mechanic). ”
As she leans forward to retrieve the keys from the ignition, he finds himself entranced by the graceful arc of her back, a delicate curve that seems to invite his gaze to follow its every contour. The gentle slope of her spine draws his eyes downward, tracing a path along the subtle rise and fall of her silhouette. Clad in low-rise jeans, her form is sculpted with an exquisite precision, each curve accentuated by the snug embrace of denim. From the gentle swell of her hips to the elegant taper of her waist, she exudes a natural allure that captivates him completely. In the soft glow of the car's interior, she appears as a vision of timeless beauty, her every movement imbued with a subtle grace that leaves him spellbound. And as he watches her, his heart swells with an unspoken longing, drawn irresistibly to the captivating essence of her presence.
“ Well… I can’t call you if I don’t have your personal number… what if I have an emergency and you’re not at the station? ” Paloma can feel his gaze on her and it makes her feel satisfied that she’s able to capture his attention so easily, closing the car door with her hip and leaning against it.
“ That would just be a downright wretched thing. ” As his hand instinctively reaches for the memo book he habitually carries, a silent curse echoes in his mind upon realizing its absence. Yet, a solitary pen remains within his grasp, a slender tool poised for action. With a swift and decisive motion, Javier closes the distance between them, a subtle shift in proximity that doesn't escape her notice. In that fleeting moment, a sharp intake of breath betrays her surprise, a subtle acknowledgment of his unexpected approach.
“ Don’t have paper on me, but… ” Taking her hand gently in his, he turns it and begins to write his home phone number on her palm.
Paloma's heart quickens its pace as Javier's hand envelops hers, his touch a juxtaposition of rough and gentle against her soft skin. In that fleeting contact, she becomes acutely aware of the stark size difference between their hands, his encompassing hers entirely. A shiver dances down her spine at the sensation, igniting a primal response deep within her. With a soft exhale, she finds herself unconsciously pressing her thighs together, a physical manifestation of the stirring desire unfurling within her. The simple act of hand-holding, once mundane, now electrifies her senses, leaving her yearning for more of his touch.
The only thing she can think of is how good his large, thick fingers would feel pressed against her clit while he pleasures her.
Focus, Paloma, you’re practically drooling.
“ Might wanna write that down somewhere. The sweat’s gonna just mess it all up. ” Javier messes with her, letting go of her hand and stuffing the pen into the front pocket of his shirt. The thin layer of sweat clearly in response to his gesture.
Her eyes widen at the comment and it has her tripping over her words, “ Y-Yeah I’ll, uh, make sure not to lose this. Like I said, it’d be a bummer if I couldn’t get ahold of you in a time of need. ”
Her desire simmers beneath the surface, a silent melody of longing that dances in her gaze. Each stolen glance reveals the allure of his sun-kissed skin, teasing her senses with the promise of warmth and intimacy. The sight of his exposed collar, bathed in the soft glow of ambient light, ignites a fierce yearning within her. Her fingers itch to trace the contours of his chest, to explore the hidden depths beneath the fabric. With every breath, she fights the urge to succumb to temptation, her resolve tested by the magnetic pull of his presence.
He smirks, absolutely loving to see his affect on her. It’s only fair, seeing as she’s always the one to be riling him up. “ Alright cariño , I better get outta here before we get ourselves into trouble. ”
The fragile awareness of their shared moment shatters the haze of desire enveloping her, grounding her back to reality. With a subtle nod, she acknowledges the unspoken understanding between them, her heart pulsing with a mixture of longing and uncertainty. As he starts to withdraw, she feels a pang of reluctance, but the need to maintain composure propels her forward. " Of course, " she replies softly, her voice carrying a hint of wistfulness. With practiced grace, she gestures towards the exit, concealing the flutter of anticipation in her chest. Her hand remains steady, resisting the urge to wipe away the lingering warmth of his touch.
–––––––––––––––––––
All hands are on deck to find Jessica Valdez, the missing girl from Fayette.
Back in Colombia, everyone was too afraid to speak up when something was amiss in fear of having their lives taken by the vicious cartels that ran the streets. Those who did have the bravery to come forward with information only did so in hopes of getting support and protection from a government that wasn’t even theirs.
Among the multitude of warning signs observed by Javier, this particular one remained conspicuous yet unacknowledged, overshadowed by the grand scheme of dismantling the kingpins. Consequently, when adversity struck, the flow of valuable intelligence was delayed, impeding the acquisition of pertinent information. This rationale justified Javier's visits to the brothels, veiled under the pretext of proactive investigation aimed at uncovering critical data essential for combatting the narcos.
The fucking was just a pleasurable addition.
In small communities stateside, though, that’s all people do. Talk. So, when Javier goes out to do some canvassing of his own; he isn’t all surprised by how willingly people are to spill the secrets of their neighbors. By the end of the day, he damn near knows about all the affairs in town, who likes to steal money from who, the mayor’s illegitimate child, and decade long family feuds.
Exactly what he expected to find in small Texan towns.
Like he had told Romeo in the beginning, there’s always some truth to a rumor. As he’s collecting information about Seminary and the communities that surround it; he comes to find out about a trio of troublemakers that come from one of the towns where one of the earliest victims had been found and their peculiar interest in all things occult.
This piqued his interest and upon further investigation; he quickly found the files for August Dixon, Sloane McCarthy and Gabriel Torres.
At once, Sloane caught his attention, although her mugshot portrayed her with a youthful demeanor. The man from Nina's funeral, Gabriel, also stood out in his memory. He recalls Sloane mentioning him by name that day he was at the Leighton home, too. However, the third male remained unfamiliar, his appearance suggesting a rebellious disposition, evident from his file and accompanying photograph.
The trio had been in and out of jail all their adolescence for petty crimes like stealing, vandalism, public intoxication, fighting and other nonsense. Nothing severe. They were just troublemakers and that is not odd to find in rural areas. Kids get bored and do stupid shit.
Javier would know better than anyone, he did similar things at their age.
He’s spread out on his couch, whiskey in one hand and file in the other. He is deep in concentration, reading over different police reports and trying to find out where the occult aspect of it comes into play when the phone begins to ring and he lets out a grunt.
Reaching over to grab the receiver, he tucks it between his shoulder and ear as he answers.
“ Peña. ”
“ Hey cowboy. ”
Her voice has him sitting up straight, discarding the folder in his hand on the coffee table, now fully attentive. It’s actually kind of pathetic how fast his demeanor changes when it comes to Paloma.
“ Hola hermosa , a little late to be callin’, yeah? You should be getting your beauty sleep for the big day tomorrow. ” He hadn’t forgotten about her performance at the fair, making note of the date the second she’d told him about it.
“ I should be but I’ve got nerves like you wouldn’t believe. ” She pauses and he can hear her thinking, “ Daddy and I just had a fight… well I dunno even know if you’d call it that. It ended with him sayin’ he didn’t give a damn if I went or not… all that fussin’ just so he could say he didn’t care in the end. If I’m actually that insufferable I’m beggin’ you to put me out of my misery. ” He chuckles at that and he can imagine her smiling at his reaction.
“ Don’t be nervous, corazón . You’re goin’ to do great. You already knock it outta the park at The Whiskey Fox every weekend. This ain’t no different. ” It is different and he knows it, but he also knows her and how she tends to overthink to the point of anxiety. “ You ridin’ up there all alone? ” Not a fan of the idea but he wouldn’t disclose this to her, now when he knows how much it ticks her off.
“ I was gonna hitch a ride with the band, then I remembered I have a car now so I was goin’ to do that but… ”
“ But? ”
“ I want you to come with me… if you can. ”
The request surprises him, so much so that it prompts him to take a larger drink of his whiskey.
“ I didn’t scare you off, did I? ” She giggles nervously at his prolonged silence.
“ No ‘course not. Just figured you’d enjoyed your newfound freedom of being on the road alone. ”
“ As fun as that sounds, I think it’d ease my daddy’s nerves knowin’ his glorified babysitter was taggin’ along… ” Javier feels like there’s more to it than that, especially since she’s always complaining about being under father’s thumb then she goes on to continue and pacify him. Before he can ask her about it she continues,
“ And I’ve never traveled outside of Seminary… well not since I was a little girl. Didn’t really get out much after mom… Just haven’t been outta town in a long, long time. ” He can sense her coyness at the admission and it does nothing but persuade him into joining her.
Javi should think it over more, the logistics of him being hours away with Paloma, knowing how ambiguous things are between them. However, he swiftly dismisses his apprehensions, feeling somewhat foolish for blowing what might be a trivial matter out of proportion.
Especially when she seems so nervous to ask for his company.
Finishing off his drink, Javier leans in deeper to the comfort of his couch and he can hear her soft breaths on the other end of the line, anticipating his response.
“ Alright, cariño just tell me what time you need me to be there and I’ll be there. ”

welcome to marina, VALENTINA FLORES ( female, her/she ) ! they are a 27 year old who has lived over on LOCKE ROW for HER ENTIRE LIFE and works as a COACH AT YOUR AVERAGE X. everyone says they look a lot like ANYA TAYLOR-JOY. what do you think? —
Name: Valentina Flores Gender: Female, her/she Age: 27 years old Sexuality: Pansexual Occupation: Coach at Your Average X (rage cage/axe throw) Neighborhood: Locke Row D.O.B: April 16th Height: 5'8" Body: Tall, Slim Hair: Blonde Eyes: Hazel Definable Marks: knife tat on her forearm
Character Summary:
Val is an overall eccentric person. She loves hard, and hates even harder. Can be rather blunt at times which comes off as rude to many people, but she couldn't be bothered to explain herself to anybody. She absolutely is a ride of die for her friends, and would not waste a minute to sucker punch the first person to say something bad about them. Has a bit of an obsessive personality in that she becomes love stuck easily and without a reason given. Is the type of person to break into your house and not see the error in her actions simply because it's something she's done her entire life. She has a lot of abandonment issues so can become clingy with friends, and easily emotional if she's pushed aside. Her strongest emotions come out as anger outburst.
Intro:
Valentina doesn't remember anything before her 6th birthday. All she knows is what the island has on paper for her, which isn't much other than the location of where she came from. She was born somewhere in the United States and spent most of her life in the foster care system. At the age of six she was adopted and that family brought her to Marina, but none of it lasted. By the year she turned eight the family sent her to a friend's house and she never saw them again. Ever since then she had been moving from home to home, and by fifteen she could be found sleeping out in the streets beneath tarps and blankets.
She decided to get herself together and started working with local farmers collecting eggs from their chickens, and milks from their cows in exchange for money and sometimes even a place to sleep for the night. In a year's time she was able to afford a small trailer over in Locke row which is where she has lived until now.
Having had spent so much of her youth alone and alienated, Val learned a lot of things on her own. She did a lot of things that are questionable like stealing food, picking pockets, breaking into houses and shops whenever she was in dire need of anything. She isn't proud of it, but she looks back fondly at all of her experiences because they made her the woman she is today.
While in high school she spent a lot of time at friend's houses where she found a new love for horror movies, anime, and video games. Since she had no television or computer in her house she stayed with them whenever she wasn't working.
Despite living in the same trailer she's been renting since she was fifteen, Val makes just enough money where she was able to buy herself a computer, and television and turn her sad home into somewhere that she enjoys spending time with and is proud to call her home.
Headcanons:
AESTHETIC: pastel goth/e-girl
Loves playing video games and watching anime. Will talk about it for eons if you let her
Has a pet hamster called Gargoyle, and a small hamster cemetery behind her trailer home for the previous hamsters. (unfortunately they only live for around 2-3 year. Talk about more abandonment issues)
Loves cinematography, and would love to one day be able to create her own Claymation short stories.
If she ever dreamed of becoming anything worthwhile in life it would have to be a movie director
Travels the island in a bicycle
Loves people watching. It's her favorite pass time
Owns a panther named Hela
Wanted Connections

What were the ROs like as kids? What were their favorite things to do?
John: The class clown: always surrounded by friends, often in trouble with teachers and his parents (at least until he'd successfully charmed his way out of it). He didn't care for school, preferring to spend time with friends, listen to the radio, watch television, and go to the movies whenever he could. He held the former town sheriff in high regard as a mentor and hero, and tended to follow him around like a duckling; beyond being an impressive (and impressively patient) personage, the old sheriff was also one of the few adults who didn't seem to think John's youthful lack of scholarship or ambition denoted a similar lack of intelligence.
Marybeth: The baby of her family, and a rebellious tomboy. She had all the love for learning her brother lacked, and none of his social charm; thankfully, while her parents were more baffled by her interests than supportive of them, John was happy to hand over such treasures as his unused toy microscope, along with his outgrown blue jeans and flannels. Scientifically-minded and voraciously curious, she kept stacks of her father's old cigar boxes under her bed, filled with such items as a rock collection, feathers, acorns of various types, the desiccated corpse of a lizard, bird bones, a large moth, etc..
Patti: (I won't get too detailed here, since she describes her own childhood in-game) Patti grew up fast, taking on responsibility for her little brother at a young age, as well as shouldering a roster of chores at the family ranch, in addition to school. Her mother viewed Patti as the successor to her own role in the community, with Patti shadowing her as she ran errands in town proper. During moments of respite (or rebellion), Patti's favorite thing to do would be to run out to the surrounding hills, climbing trees, gathering wildflowers, or laying in the meadow grass, enjoying the warm sun and solitude in peace.
Sparrow: (again, this comes up in the story, so I won't delve too deeply here) Sparrow had a rather rough childhood. His parents were neither one happy individuals, and his iconoclastic tendencies resulted in near-complete social isolation both at school and at home-- with the exceptions of a years-long scholastic rivalry with Marybeth, and his much-beloved older brother Evan's support and protection. Shy, bespectacled, and extremely tall even early on, Sparrow has always found books his best and favorite refuge, reading whatever he could lay hands on. He also loves music, but had little scope to explore it beyond listening to the radio until he grew older.
Jasper: Precocious from the start, Jasper's parents struggled with managing first their own expectations of him, and then his expectations of himself. Multi-talented, highly intelligent, and prone to hyperfocus on his interests to the exclusion of all else, Jasper excelled at almost all he put his hand to, but his perfectionism meant he struggled with activities prioritizing group work or reliance on a team. He enjoyed cooking, as it allowed him to both spend task-focused time with his mother, and to express affection and care in a practical way that played to his strengths. His favorite thing to do as a child was to study astronomy, sitting up late in the evening alone with a telescope and notebooks.

"[Girl], you're an alien Your touch, so foreign It's supernatural Extraterrestrial"
Paring: Robin Buckley x Angel Voorhees
Summary: Robin Buckley finds out her new girlfriend, is out of this world. A/N: My first fanfic writing for myself, I'm a bit rusty for writing for me so I hope it's gonna turn out good.
The first time I met Robin Buckley was at her Family Video job, she was working the counter and I had rented some various horror and scifi movies. She had seen my collection and complemented them, especially the movie Zombie by Lucio Fulci, which I was surprised a tiny town like Hawkins had a film like that. She was beautiful, the way she looked in her blazer and neck tie sent me falling even more. Not to mention she knew about Lucio Fulci? Like come on, how could I not fall in love. So I asked her out then and there. Gave her my phone number, and the rest they say is history.
We had been dating for a few weeks. Everything was going well, but I had to tell her my secret. The secret I didn't want to tell a bunch of people. The truth is, there was something about Hawkins that drew me in. That's why I moved there. Hawkins has some very strange shit that happens there. Of course, me being what I am, I had to go there. You see, I'm not human, I'm actually an alien from the 5th planet of the Solar System, Jupiter. I'm the queen of my whole species. I struggle with this everyday, I can't really fit in with everyone around me cause I'm not even the same species as them. So when it came to dating Robin I had to tell her what I am. Before it ate me up inside or worse, I could accidentally use my alien powers in front of her before telling her.
"Robin, honey, I gotta confess something to you, it's gonna be weird but..." I said before Robin cut me off.
"Babe, I'm the Weirdest Girl in Hawkins, try me." she giggled. I blushed and tried to hide my smile but I know she saw it.
"Ummmm what if I told you that aliens are real, and they live among us." I said.
"Well you know I believe in UFOs so of course aliens are real." Robin said. I gulped and then breathed deeply.
"I'm an alien...." I blurted out. Robin blinked and then her jaw dropped.
"Really? Can you prove it." Robin said. I sighed and got up to look into her eyes, I then changed my eyes to black and white, then it meshed together like static on a television.
"Holy shit! You really are an alien! Do you have any more powers? I wanna see!!!" Robin said.
"I can read minds of course, that's how I knew about your favorite flowers before you even said anything about it." I said.
"Now that explains everything! But why didn't you tell me sooner! You know I've seen some weird shit, so seeing an alien is nothing to me at this point. Also I didn't know aliens could be so... cute!! I thought they were all tiny with big heads and black eyes. Well you have black eyes so I got that right!" Robin spoke.
"Oh there are those, but we all come in different forms. Some humanoid, some insectoid, ecetera ecetera" I said. I skooshed up against her on the couch in my house on Elm St and held her arm.
"I promise, one day you'll see all of my powers. Some of them can't be done indoors. I also hope you won't be afraid. That's one thing I was keeping this from. I don't want someone I love to be scared of me." I said, almost crying.
"Angel, you don't have to worry about scaring me. Since you're a mind reader, you've probably already seen the shit I've seen." Robin said. She was right, I had seen everything in her mind. The poor woman's been through some shit too. I saw that Mind Flayer thing inside her mind and I was baffled. A part of me wishes I was there to save her and her friends from that thing.
"Now, if this Vecna fucker ever touches you, ever hurts you, I am so sorry for what you and everyone will see from me. Because if he lays one fucking finger on you, there will be an apocalypse, but he won't be the one to cause it." I said getting up from the couch, the low growling of my T-Rex roar spilling from my vocal cords, my eyes turned to static again. Robin's face is what made me realize she really didn't care about me being what I am, her face was that of admiration. Because she was surprised that someone would want to protect her that seriously.
"Okay, you're really hot." Robin said. I calmed down after her saying that. My cheeks were turning redder than the lipstick I was wearing. I can't help it, I may be a powerful alien queen, but I am a weak pile of mush when a pretty girl compliments me.
"I'm so glad you accept me." I said plopping down on the couch next to her.
"Of course I do, I'm a fucking weirdo too! It's only fitting that I ended up being with someone who's not even from planet Earth. I mean that as a complement too." Robin said.
I pulled her onto my lap and kissed her neck leaving lipstick all over her. I had to give her lots of love and affection after all this. Finally, I feel like a big weight lifted off my shoulders.
"Oh, since you know I don't like explaining things to people, so I gotta do this to let you see my whole life's story." I said.
"How are you gonna do tha---" Robin said as I placed the tip of my middle finger to her forehead, right where the pineal gland would be. The third eye part of the skull. I had transferred the entirety of my memories into her brain. Robin blinked and shook her head.
"Your life could be one big movie or a long television series." Robin said.
"I know right! I would want Ally Sheedy to play me." I said.
"Oh my god I love her! They did her so wrong in The Breakfast Club" Robin said.
"Why they gotta make her like that at the end what the fuck?" I laughed.
"Hey, wanna go bug Steve and see what we can get away with using your powers?" Robin said.
"I've been wanting to fuck with him for so long, so yeah, let's go!!!" I said. Robin got up to call Steve to hang out. We're gonna prank the fuck outta him. It's gonna be rad as hell!!!

How has Lego Become Suddenly Even More Popular?
I have been a fan of Lego my entire life but recently however, this has slowed for me in the later years due to saving my money for the purchases that I would like to make. This has not been the case for almost the entire world because Lego has been gaining more popularity globally over the past couple years . In the article above written by Sarah Whitten she talks about how the privately owned Danish toymaker revenue increased 17%, reaching $64.6 billion Danish krone, or about $9.28 billion in 2022. Lego has been effected by Covid pandemic and the war in the Ukraine with the increase in shipping costs and energy costs. However, this has not slowed down Lego from introducing new and more complicated sets to the public. Two of their biggest products is that of the Star Wars Universe and the Harry Potter Universe. Lego can often be seen as a child brand but with these sets you need to be much older to put all the pieces together because with large sets like Hogwarts there is over 6,000 pieces. These sets are often targeted to teenagers and adults because someone who is younger often can't put together that many pieces without an adult helping them. With this new success Lego has also been expanding their brand into new markets. They have recently been introduced into the Chinese market. They also have plans on building a factory in Virginia.
Some backlash that Lego has taken over the years is that they are an expensive brand to purchase. I couldn't agree more with this but with this article by Farnam Street they dive into the reasoning why these Legos can often be so expensive to buy for the average consumer. The first point that they make is that Lego isn't selling a product but they are selling a story. This comes through their collaborations with renowned brands in movie and television such as Stranger Things, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, and many more. You can build the Death Star or the Millennium Falcon in your bedroom or in the living with friends. This is something that is not just a simple normal purchase but also a bonding experience or hobby that you can continue your entire life. You can collect sets from your favorite franchises and create or recreated your favorite scenes or alter them any way you seem fit. This is the big pull Lego has is that they have many loyal franchise fans.
Tumblr media
I have a few reasons why Lego has continued to grow in popularity over the past couple years. The first being its nostalgia factor, Lego draws a lot of their consumers from the feeding off their nostalgia in the best way possible. The often reintroduce classic sets to the public for older people who grew up with Lego to repurchase the sets that they grew up with as a kid. The brand Lego has extremely innovated when it comes to creating new products to the mass. Lego continues to expand its product offerings, introducing new sets, themes, and building techniques that inspire creativity and imagination. This helps Lego stay appealing and relevant to a expanding range of consumers, including children, teenagers, and adults who enjoy the challenges and the creativity involved in building Legos. The licensing and partnerships has created another level of success with popular intellectual properties such as Star Wars and Harry Potter. These collaborations have expanded Lego's product range and brought in new fans from all different fandoms, making Lego sets more appealing and collectable for fans of these franchises. Lego also has a large presence on social media and with their fan engagement. Lego often likes to engage with fans, encourage user generated content, and build an online presence with Lego enthusiasts. With this presence Lego has created a strong fan base love to share their creations, participate in Lego building contests, and provide feedback. This in turn has built up brand loyalty and creating some diehard lego fans. Lego has a large range of diversification as well in their brand and sets. They have an area of products such as their own video games, TV shows, movies, and theme parks that have been extremely successful.

Hey could you write something where reader is new to the team but before she joined she was a huge Loki fan girl. Most of her sleep wear is Loki themed and she’s got a ton of Loki plushies. It’s why she keeps the door locked. But one morning she forgets to close her door and Loki walks by and sees a collection of Loki stuffed animals and some clothing items. Instead of teasing her about it, he buys her a huge ass Loki teddy bear that’s almost to big to fit through the door but he manages. Just something cute and fluffy to brighten my awful mood.
ACK! YES! Omg this is such a cute idea thank you for sending in an idea.
For the record I am always accepting requests, but I may not write every idea I’m sent. So please if you have something you’d like to see send it in!
Edit: OH MY OSIFSOIOSFDOJ GOD
I shit you not right as I was finished writing this, I highlighted the whole fic to put it in a word counter and i somehow managed to DELETE THE WHOLE FUCKING THING IFHOIFHWERIHGWOEIRFGOWI
If this seems a little fast paced and poorly written, then I’m really sorry but I had to rewrite literally this whole thing and I was really annoyed about it aosifhaoifhaois
Summery: Loki’s your favorite Avenger, and your personal decor can attest to that. Can you keep your passion under wraps when you move into the Avenger’s Tower?
Warnings: Very little swearing, just me loosing my mind

You’d always had a soft spot for villains.
You ate up every enemies-to-lovers novel, movie, or television show you could get your grubby hands on. You firmly believed that everyone had good in them. No matter what they did, everyone could be redeemed, and that they could put good into the world.
Maybe that made you naive, maybe it made you an idealist. No matter what people thought of you, you stayed true to your philosophy.
It was what had drawn you to Loki it the first place.
The man who had once brought ruin to your city was now working with the people who’d saved it. It was the redemption arch of your dreams.
The Avengers had some kind of PR team that seemed determined to bring Loki out of the shadows he lurked in by putting out more and more merchandise based around the God of Mischief. Loki themed graphic tees, pajamas, plushies, and even office supplies hit the market by storm, and you were at the front of the line to buy them.
You found yourself practically swimming in Loki merch, particularly stuffed toys. You had an army of about a dozen of them displayed on your bed and the shelves surrounding it. Something about being surrounded by the likeness of one of the most dangerous men in the world brought you so much comfort. Maybe it was the memory that people could change. That no matter what happened, they could get better.
For the longest time, you thought this was the closet you’d ever get to any of the Avengers. For better or for worse, this soon changed.
You didn’t officially work for SHIELD, so you didn’t expect to ever work with the heroes who kept the city- and the rest of the world- safe. You were a criminal psychologist working for the New York Police Department (an occupation that fit your idealist morals surprisingly well). You were good at your job, good enough that you’d been brought in by Director Fury to interrogate captured HYDRA agents and other captured bad guys.
Evidently, you were good enough at your job that you were promoted from everyday crooks to Avengers Level Threats.
Your knees went weak when you took your first steps into the incredible tower. You realized with a jolt that you were going to be living here from now on. You were living in a dream.
It wasn’t that day that you felt the electric shock of mortification about your admiration for the dark-haired demigod. When Loki (the real, non-stuffed Loki) shook your hand begrudgingly and introduced himself, you suddenly remembered your socks pattered with golden horned helmets tucked safely into your boots.
You took care to lock the door to your bedroom whenever you left it. There wasn’t any shame in having an idol that you bought merchandise of, but it became a tad strange when you lived in the same building as that person.
You later discovered that the Avengers could get their own products for free, so a lot of them ironically wore clothes bearing their own or another team member’s resemblance. You still opted to keep your Loki treasure trove hidden away, and keep your graphic tees hidden under sweaters and zipped jackets. It was one thing when Thor wore hoodies with his brother’s name stamped across the back, you figured it would be a little less funny if you, a newbie, did the same.
Besides, you liked Loki, and you were pretty sure he liked you, too. You’d worked hard to crack the walls he’d set up and slip past his defenses. You didn’t want to jeopardize your friendship with him by revealing your boarder-line obsession.
So you were diligent to always lock your door.
Until one day.
Two HYDRA agents who’d been causing the team problems for months were brought in, so you had to rush from your room to do your job. Halfway to the interrogation rooms, you realized with a chilling jolt that in the hurry, you’d left your door swinging, not just unlocked, but wide open.
“No one’s gonna go up there, for now.” You muttered, reasoning that it would just be a waste of time to run back up to shut the door. “Everyone’s busy down here.”
You ignored the growing pit in your stomach and hurried on.
. . .
Loki was going up to your room.
He hadn’t seen you in the chaos of bringing the agents in, so he decided to pop up to your room to make sure you knew what was happening. It had been easy to slip away undetected from the mass of people, reliving, even.
As Loki approached your room, he noticed your door hanging open. Odd, he thought, knowing this was out of character. You probably where down on the lower levels after all, if this was the case.
Despite knowing he should turn away, respect your privacy, or even close your door out of courtesy. That damnable curiosity that had plagued him for centuries pulled him closer, though. Just for a peek.
Bookshelf teeming with books, partially made bed, serval small plush versions of himself- wait, what?
Loki blinked a few times, sure he’d imagined them, but there they were. It was as if he’d seen the toys, his eyes had been opened to the rest of your room. He noticed the pajama pants patterned with his signature daggers draped over the foot of your bed. He saw you laptop, which had be decked out with Loki-themed stickers. He nearly stepped on a notebook emblazoned with his helmet lying on the floor.
Once the shock had worn off, he found himself somewhat flattered. It was charming, seeing this side of you. He knew he had some sort of fanbase (though for the life of him he couldn’t figure out why), he would’ve never imagined you were part of it.
His lips curled up in a found smile.
. . .
The knock startled you. You quickly slid your laptop under your covers, threw off your Loki-hoodie, stuffed it under your bed, and in record time answered the door.
You were well practiced in opening your bedroom door just enough so that you could see outside, but whoever was there couldn’t see in. That person, to your delight and somewhat horror; was Loki. A small smirk spread across his features when he saw you.
“Hello, there.” He greeted smoothly. “I have something for you.”
“Something for me?” You echoed, raising a brow. “What the occasion?”
“No occasion.” He lilted. “Just something I thought you could add to your collection.”
“My- oh.”
Loki wrestled the comically large teddy bear through your doorway, placing it gently on the floor. You watched as it tipped over from the weight of its own head and fell onto your feet. The gesture would’ve been sweet, if not for the fact that the bear was costumed in Loki’s garb. You felt your heart sinking longer and loner as you continued to stare at the toy. “How did you know?” You asked, your voice a near whisper.
“I came up to get you for something a few days ago. You’d left your door opened.” Loki admitted, his smile dropping a fraction.
“Oh,” You said again, wishing you could curl in on yourself and die in a pit of embarrassment. You lowered your head.
“You needn’t be ashamed, if that’s what you’re thinking,” Loki quickly said, gently closing his hands around your biceps. “It’s perfectly alright.”
“You’re not upset?”
“No, not at all. It’s quite endearing, actually.”
He released one of your arms, placing a finger under your chin to tilt your gaze up to meet his. He gave you a reassuring smile. You tentatively matched it.
You wrapped your arms around his torso, pressing your face securely into his chest. He held you, letting you hide.
“Perhaps once the public sees how important you are,” He whispered in your ear, sending shivers up your spine. “and there is merchandise of you as well, I’ll collect all that I can and decorate my room the same way.”
You groaned, hands fisting in his clothes. “Please don’t.”
He chuckled, his fingers ghosting over your back. “Just try and stop me, darling.”

JJK + different art majors
max.notes: so, i’m a art major (surprise surprise) so y’all should’ve expected this at some point. plus, art majors need more appreciation !! also, i will be using a lot of uhhh art terms? but i’ll try my best to explain them. also! i had to physically stop myself from writing too much for the explanations cause i can literally go on and on about this. so yes, this is long.
characters included: y. itadori, f. megumi, k. nobara, s. gojou & k. nanami
warnings/tags: nada
Tumblr media
ITADORI; Painting
Tumblr media
i was gonna give him gaming, BUT he gives me painter vibes and i’m about to explain why. painting is so widely diverse that itadori would be so immersed with its different painting styles and medias. he’s a color theory(study of colors + how they work with each other) prodigy okay? critics praise him for his usage of colors. i believe his favorite style of painting would be objective abstract art. which has a subject but it’s un-uniformed, hence the name abstract. he’s the type of painter that lets their feelings and emotions control his brush strokes + choices of colors. the overall tone. if he’s feeling angry or has pent up energy, it’s mostly dark but vivid colors and erratic movement (think of scarlet reds with orange undertones with everdeen greens.) but if it’s a calmer mood, it more flowy and smooth, using more cooler tones (think of indigo blues, purples and maybe a splash of gold.) he hates oil painting, it’s too much work and preparation. watercolor is cool but it can be tedious sometimes. so acrylic is his go to media. he always has paint underneath his nails.
MEGUMI; Animation
Tumblr media
animation is a whole spectrum of its own. there’s so many different parts that goes into making one, whether it’s television, a film or even 5 minute short. megumi likes the tediousness, patience + dedication it takes to make an animation. there’s different concentrations that one can focus on, but i think megumi either concentrates on technical animation (which that name states, the more technical part of animation. think of it like the joints between your bones.) examples would be elsa’s hair in frozen. she has over 400,000 strands of hair and disney had to create a new software to bring her hair to life. or, he would go into story animation (which focuses on story boarding and character design) megumi would have the most fun creating fun and emersive characters for audiences to enjoy. whether it be the main character with a complex personality and tragic backstory or a simple side character that’s meant for comic relief, megumi will love and cherish every character he creates like it’s his child T^T
NOBARA; Cermanics
Tumblr media
cermanics or pottery, is no joke. like seriously, it’s another field of precision that i, unfortunately can not do. you would think because nobara is loud and bubbly that she wouldn’t be able to do it, or have the least amount of patience for it. but she actually really enjoys it. clay is soft + mendable. controllable. and nobara likes that, cause she can make it into whatever she desires. her favorite type of clay to work with is porcelain. who doesnt like making a pretty plate or pot? after that would be earthenware, which from there can fire it in the kiln (a special “oven” for baking clay) and put pretty glazes on them uwu. and what’s even greater about this, she even makes her own clay. she’s bojuee like that ;)
GOJOU; Film + Television
Tumblr media
you would think he’d live for the spotlight, like being an actor, but he definitely gives me director vibes. he wants his name on the damn thing. not a featuring or just a size 7 font on the rolling credits at the end. no, size 24 “directed by: satoru gojou” but of course, he starts his way from the bottom up. feels more rewarding that way. gojou will not, for the life of him, put out basic movies. he creates the most compelling, imaginative worlds and characters. they’re engaging, thought provoking even. gojou believes that every aspect of film making, from color grading to the overall cinematography is important to tell the story. dark, depressive movies with twist and turns are desaturated and mystical with up close camera shots on the actors face during pivotal moments. jumpy soundtracks and explosive cgi makes for a great action/adventure film. delves into every genere because being well-rounded is better than being a one trick pony.
NANAMI; Art History + Restoration
Tumblr media
i love this for him. out of all the majors on this list, i think this is the most unappreciated. nanami thinks the same, so honestly, if he wasn’t a sorcerer he would be an art historian. after saving up the money, he’s opened up his own little gallery in town, collecting all sorts of ancient and wild paintings + sculptures he can find. nanami has a deep love for art history, and he wants to share that with the younger generation. he does regular tours of the gallery for elementary childern. i think he’s secretly good with childern alright? nanami is so... smooth and thorough with his descriptions when he’s talking about a painting from the edo period, he has the kids captivated and engaged. he even invites high school and university students to do restoration presentations. showing them how to properly do so from cleaning the canvas, color correcting and even stretching it out on a new frame.

II've decided to watch MacGyver from the beginning (again), and I'm live tweeting the experience with every tweet tagged with #savemacgyver. I thought it would be fun to share my collected thoughts from the episodes on here as well.
My Thoughts on S1E3, "Awl"
You're not only going to make it to 30, Mac, but you're going to make it to season 6. #savemacgyver
I love that Jack's bucket list includes finishing the Harry Potter books. Guess he's not a one-trick pony after all with sci-fi. A healthy blend of science fiction and fantasy is just what the doctor ordered.
Dylan Thomas reference! That poem was written about the poet's own father, and is about how everyone, no matter who they are or what they stand for, fights against death in the end. He's begging his dad to "rage, rage against the dying of the light," to not give in to death so easily, to keep fighting. Just taught this poem, actually, so I'm vibing with this reference super hard. Though to be fair, I'd be vibing with it anyway. Love Dylan Thomas.
Oh my gosh, this is the one with the fire extinguisher and inflatable escape! I'd forgotten which episode that came from, but I see GIFs of it all over Tumblr. Poor Mac especially, that looks like it hurts. Why is Lucas Till so good at being whumped?!
Jack hugging the fire extinguisher: Iconic.
I'll never get tired of seeing that polar bear! Do we know if he has a name?
I cannot get over how small and excited Bozer is, not a care in the world except for his movie. It's exciting to think about what's to come for his character growth, though I do wish he wouldn't have to go through all the things he does. :(
Jack's conversations with his dad at the grave are just everything. And I feel cheated that we haven't gotten to see Mac have the same kind of conversations at Jack's grave (though I firmly believe it's a regular occurrence off-screen).
Seriously, the way he talks to his dad is so familiar, so comfortable, so natural. It's like Daddy Dalton is right there with him and it fills me with so many emotions that I can't even.
The smile on Jack's face and the pride in his voice when he talks about Mac to his dad is the purest thing ever.
Also, that's a big-ass tombstone Jack is leaning against.
"Hi, Mr. Dalton. How's... life?" MAC! 😂
I can't tell you how much I love it when other characters talk about how smart Mac is. "He's a genius..."
First mention of Mac's dad. It's sweet how invested Jack is in Mac rebuilding his relationship with his old man. Also, I really wish we would have gotten a flashback of Jack's dad at some point. He seems like such an amazing man.
"If I could have one more day to sit and talk to my dad instead of that hunk of rock, I'd do anything." Jaaaaaaack 😭😭😭
Good old Ralph Kastrati. Single-handedly the most annoying character in all of cable television. Y'all have no idea what you're getting into with this one, dream team.
PUNCHFACE.
"My mom dated a guy like that once." Ouch. I'm about to start a Riley Zinger Counter for each episode. Her comebacks are 🔥
It's not just his face, Jack. Everything about this dude is punchable. Especially the way he says "yo."
Ewwww tightie whities no thanks imma head hom now byyye
Mac just snatched that can right out of Jack's hand as he was about to take a drink. Classic.
If I didn't hate Ralph before (spoiler: I did), then I extra hate him for the foie gras comment.
Yes, Jack, "asshat" is the perfect descriptor for this guy.
Is Mac seriously about to just make him some noise-canceling headphones? Who am I kidding? Of course he is.
I need more of Mac punching people in the face. For science.
Poor Jack didn't get to punch the punch face.
🎵 Snipers gonna snipe, snipe, snipe, snipe, snipe 🎵
Between the foie gras and the calfskin, they are really making this guy so easy to hate just sayin'.
"As soon as you're done saving his life, I'm gonna kill him, you hear that, smart-ass? I'm already dressed for the funeral." 🤣🤣🤣🤣
"He's g-good. He just... got kinda shot." Is that the medical terminology, Mac?
Jack using country music as a form of torture 🤣
"You're going to be seeing Yelp stars if you don't shut up!"
Have I mentioned how much I love the music in this show?
"I don't wanna die listening to country music!"
I love how bossy and grabby Mac gets when he improvises.
Another belt grab! I can’t get over Jack trying to keep his crazy partner from falling out of the window – it gives me life!
Actually makes me wonder if he does it because Mac’s taken a tumble out of a car window before. *fanfic brain engaged*
“You know how I feel about your puns.” C’mon, Mac, pus are the greatest forms of humor, bar-pun. (Geddit?)
Mc made a C in biology? I’m not buying it.
Dwwwwwww the sounds of the surgery. No thanks.
Though I will say this is one of the coolest (albeit grossest) things Mac’s ever done on this show.
What the heck is with that elevator door? It took a whole 10 years to close! I wouldn’t trust it. (To be fair, I don’t trust any elevator, but that’s neither here nor there.)
Sir Bleeds-a-Lot lol
Riley stepping in and taking charge once again. No idea how these two functioned before she came along.
Some seriously cool MacGyverisms in this episode. The whole process of “killing” Ralph and bringing him back with office supplies is so OG MacGyver and it gives me all the warm fuzzies.
Ralph: “You’re not a scientist, you’re not a doctor. So how the hell do you know all this stuff?” Mac: “...I read a lot of books?” I love Mac so much.
“Now go die.” Lolololol
The moment with Ralph wanting to call his mom and grow the hell up is surprisingly genuine and heartbreaking. Character development for a character in only one episode, hello, is that you?
“He’s dead, but he’ll get better.” MacGyver, 2016
Riley’s comeback about Jack’s plan to take out six guys if Mac takes out two is another winner. (Riley: 2, Jack: 0) Still, I love the whole, “Sure it does [count as a plan]. First, I’ll take two. Then, I’ll take the other four.” This is why Mac is the plan guy, not Jack.
“Or I can take them all out.” Mac’s confidence = 🔥
I might need to start a Mac sass counter too. Jack: “You seriously want me to put this on my face?” Mac: “Only if you like breathing.”
Jack’s left fist getting jealous 🤣
They really liked choking Mac in the early episodes, didn’t they? Not that I’m complaining. Actually, why did that stop? That strangled, panicked cry of “JACK?!” is music to my fanfic writing, hurt/comfort obsessed, whump-loving soul.
That cough - it actually hurts me to hear it! They should have given us some more repercussions or aftercare for Mac breathing in that gas!
Ralph fell asleep. Of course.
“You know, it’s weird. I’m glad he’s alive… but I still want to kill him. 🤣 I’m with Jack on this one!
Ralph: “A fresh start. I could use one of those right?” Riley: “Or a whole new personality.” ZZZING!!! Riley: 1 million, the world: -10
Oh he did not just call Riley “little hottie.” I’m back to wanting to kill him, character development be darned. So diminutive, dehumanizing, and objectifying. This guy has more than won the douchebag lottery. Riley can more than stick up for herself, but still. The way he speaks to her here makes me feel all kinds of gross.
He just said “ya heard” unironically. Can we let Jack punch him now, please?
Jack offering to let Ralph keep the cash he lifted if he gets to punch him is great, but even better is Mac and Riley offering to chip in money for The Cause.
Oh, yeah, Bozer was in this episode. I’m excited for when he is utilized more!
Bozer’s monster Mac is nightmare fuel!
“A letter? That you put in the mail? It’s 2016.” Hey, as someone who has an actual, old-school type pen pal, step off, Jack.
Mac: “You just gonna watch?” Jack, offended: “Not anymore.” How is it Jack is like Mac’s dad but they also bicker like 5-year-olds? This relationship is so strange, so wonderful, and the heart of the show in so many ways. I love them.
Mac’s words of wisdom about the nature of life are actually super encouraging and exactly what I needed to hear today.
I’d forgotten how much I love this episode – t’s so fun! Although the Codex storyline in season 4 is probably my favorite plot-wise, coming back to these early episodes is like a breath of fresh air! Excellent, excellent episode with so much to offer!
What are your thoughts on "Awl?" I'd love to discuss! :)

Wellness Wednesday:
Knocking Out A Challenge
There's nothing better...
Picking a goal - setting up a challenge - and completing it.
I've been consistently setting goals for myself since 2013...
I think I am slightly addicted to waking up in the morning and having an objective for myself. I'm not talking about work or chores either - no - I'm talking about something that engages, provides fulfillment, and causes me to stretch myself.
This Groundhog Day Diet Challenge was an interesting one. If I did it again, I would do it differently as I feel I shortchanged my self when it came to portions/calories, but I did enjoy aspect of having to stick to a rigid meal plan - even if that meant traveling with my own toaster.
Getting to the meat of the matter - Let's Discuss the Pros and Cons.
PROs:
I didn't have to think twice about a meal. Fast, easy, efficient.
Saved money on my grocery bill.
Really opened my eyes to simplicity of the food I eat - aka - I can survive without condiments, snacks, seconds....
Due to the strict calorie intake (an uncalculated accident) - I hit a massive bout of weightloss especially after a long, stretched out plateau
CONs:
Couple weeks ago I mentioned "side effects" - well, what I was experiencing was blurry/loss of vision every time I stood up. Hit me hard during week 2, but went away some time during week 3.
Early on, my morning hunger was ravenous. To the point I know I was not thinking clearly until I had my Turkey and Swiss.
Having to eat on schedule was a pain - especially when traveling.
I can't find a direct correlation (as other factors besides the diet may be at play), but this month by far was my moodier month of the year so far.
What am I going to do with any of that information - I don't know - but at least I can check it off the list.
Now,
With 8ish weeks left in the year I need to start plotting on my next big challenge for 2024.

Closing Thoughts:
The Good:
The Groundhog Day Diet is over. My mouth is already watering for all the tasty possibilities.
Loss 100 Pounds - All without Ozempic!
Ending the "Wellness Week" with "classy feast" aka Steak and Veggies. I stated before that I would never use food a reward, but I broke 100 pounds AND just wrapped on eating Sammies and Soup for 31 days... I think I can break my Food as Reward Rule just this once - especially since it will be a home cooked meal.

The Bad:
I've been tad moody lately. Hoping I can chill out this coming November.
The Ugly:
My Ankle/Achilles is very sore/tender. Continuing with my scheduled workouts, but babying it as much as possible. The pain seems to get worse with each passing day.

welcome aboard, jude harris, student #50. we are excited to set sail with you !  has anyone told you that you look like elliot fletcher? according to our records, you hail from brooklyn, ny, prefer he/him pronouns, are a trans man, and are here to study cinema. we also see you received a spot on the ss university because of your academic scholarship — we won’t tell anyone. during your first few weeks here, other students said you were + outgoing, + generous, but also - anxious. it sounds like you spend most of your time at the zen room. upon checking your luggage, we noticed you packed a polaroid camera brought from home. hopefully your roommates don’t steal it!

Jude had a fairly happy childhood, despite coming from lower-income. He lived with his parents in a tiny, cramped apartment for most of his life. Luckily they had always been a close bunch and they made it work.
His parents always knew something was different about Jude. Although they didn’t quite know what it was, they always made it clear to Jude that they would love him no matter what. This made things a lot easier on him when he started to question his gender identity as a teenager. Jude considers himself lucky because his parents were incredibly accepting of him when he came out as transgender.
Being from a lower-class family, Jude knew the only way he could ever hope to attend college was to get a scholarship. Luckily school came easy to him. He especially thrived in classes where he got to be creative --- English, drama, and photography were his favorites.
Jude has always been in love with film. Although he’s friendly and happy to be your friend, he’s awkward and much prefers to be behind of a camera than in front of it. He especially grew frustrated by the lack of representation in mainstream Hollywood movies, and vowed that he would be the one to change that. His main goal in life is to direct documentaries ( hence him always carrying around an outdated, bulky video camera and recording people --- with permission of course! ) His ultimate dream is to open a production companies where he can uplift BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women, disabled, and all marginalized voices both in front of the camera and behind it. He remembers vividly how isolating it was to never see anyone like him on television.
He’s the biggest romantic nerd you ever did meet. When he falls for someone, he falls hard ( which is to say he falls in love a million times a day with anybody who smiles at him ). This led to him getting engaged to Muse #55. He was devastated when their engagement ended. ( SKELETON CONNECTION ).
Jude’s loyal to a fault and the word no doesn’t exist in his vocabulary, hence him getting arrested with Muse #29. ( SKELETON CONNECTION )
Ever since his failed engagement, Jude has been hesitant to enter another relationship. He prefers to just awkwardly watch everyone else be happy ( aka Mark Cohen from RENT has boarded ! )
He loves flowers more than life itself and will randomly give people flowers with a kind note just because he can.
He identifies as pansexual.
Jude’s interests are flowers, film, photography, social justice, art, musical theatre, and elephants. Have you seen that video of the elephant painting? Don’t worry, Jude will show it to you twenty times.
Huge believer in meditating and manifesting. Definitely has a crystal collection.
Always has weed on him, and will always share.

I’ve said it before but this feels like an important time to say it again: Art-making needs to be accessible alongside Art Consumption!
IATSE is preparing to go on strike across much of the US film and television industry next Monday, No More 10 out of 12s is gaining momentum in the theatre industry, and something’s got to change!
Tumblr media
My background is in theatre production, not film and TV, but a lot of the stories over at IA_Stories sound pretty darn familiar - and the theatre industry has been using this “pandemic pause”or “long intermission” to re-think some of our own habits.
Tumblr media
When I was younger, my favorite movie quote was from Shakespeare in Love:
Tumblr media
Henslowe: Mr. Fennyman, allow me to explain about the theatre business. The natural condition is one of insurmountable obstacles on the road to imminent disaster.
Fennyman: So what do we do?
Henslowe: Nothing. Strangely enough, it all turns out well.
Fennyman: How?
Henslowe: I don't know. It's a mystery.
“It’s a mystery” was my short-hand, for years, for the way we always managed to pull things off somehow, by opening night - no matter how stressful the show got.  What I realized at some point, though, is that it’s not a mystery - and calling it one allows those who set the schedules (and budgets and paychecks) willfully ignore the ridiculous hours put in by the production team in order to pull off seemingly miraculous results.
As someone commented over on IA_Stories a few days ago: “We make the impossible happen on a daily basis because it looks bad if we fail. So they expect us to always accommodate the impossible because we did it before.”
I was working at a youth theatre once, where the adult production staff were regularly pulling 17+ hour days to get things accomplished.  And it wasn’t until we has to stop some of the teenagers from volunteering themselves into exhaustion that we realized what a horrible example we were setting, all in the name of pulling it off “for the children”.
And that’s not even getting into pay rates. As they joke in Shakespeare in Love, producers love to pay the cast (and/or crew) a “share of the profits” when there aren’t any - but do their best to avoid it when there’s actual revenue to be made (@AMPTP trying to get out of paying IATSE streaming residuals).
Entry level positions usually involve unpaid internships or rates that haven’t come close to a living wage in decades.  And we’re told to suck it up, for the privilege of doing work that we love.  But not everyone who loves this work can afford to do that (for so many different reasons) - and they get shut out of the industry while the rest of us pat ourselves on the back and try to one-up each other’s stories about the worst place we ever worked.  And that isn’t okay.
For those who aren’t familiar:
IATSE is the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (although “International” here really means US and Canada) - The 360+ locals under its umbrella represent most of the production staff in film and television, as well as in higher tiers of (mostly commercial) theatre.  After long and unsuccessful negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) on two of the largest-reaching collective bargaining agreements (”Hollywood Basic” and “Area Standards”), IATSE are preparing to strike as of Monday 18th October - not all shows filmed in the US will be affected, but many of them will.
A “10 out of 12″ is an industry term for a technical rehearsal that involves ten hours of actor rehearsal time over a twelve hour span (on many contracts, two of these are allowed back to back, in the week before performances start).  The ten out of twelve hour thing, of course, only applies to the cast, and for many production team members this means days that are 13 out of 14 hours (or longer)!
