Interview with the Vampire for the hyperfixation ask meme - but I'm sure someone else will also want to ask that, so I offer Moon Knight as a backup. And oops I just realised we're probably meant to pick questions from the list, so ✨ (stars emoji if it doesn't display properly).
Oooh I will do both!
✨ what draws you towards your hyperfixation? what is interesting about it?
MOON KNIGHT: I'm going to be honest: a lot of it is deeply enjoying Oscar Isaac and thinking he did a great job with it. This one is a strange case where the version of this show that exists in my brain is actually much better than the actual show when I rewatch it? I enjoy ancient Egyptian stuff, blame me watching The Mummy too many times in my impressionable youth. I have never been so deranged about a fanfic as I am about this one it's a WIP that will probably never be finished and I think about it like, once a week at least. I like that it's about a character whose mental health struggles are central to the narrative. There's lots of themes of guilt and self-acceptance that are interesting to me.
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE: I love a bit of superntural horror, I've loved vampire shit ever since I was young. It's all just... dialed up to 11? I am just really drawn to like, unfettered melodrama and intensity and IWTV really delivers on that. It's got levels of passion and violence and heightened emotions and eroticism that a lot of other media just isn't bringing to the table. Also, it's queer in such an integral way that is so refreshing. AND it's very different from a lot of other contemporary queer media that I watch or read which seems very careful about not being problematic, is afraid to have characters fuck up and be selfish and hurt one another and make ugly but understandable choices. And IWTV is just ALL THAT all the time. I love that it isn't afraid to be outrageous and explicitly kinky. But also it never really feels like it's... trying JUST to shock or be edgy for the sake of it? And there's moments of such gentleness and romance threaded through all the horror that make it so irresistible. I simply love a love story, and IWTV has so many threads that are about love so big that it becomes monstrous. I eat that shit upppppppppp.

Bella: *reading a magazine*
María: *playing a solitaire* Are we? Isabella, why didn't you tell me? I would have taken my clothes off.
Bella: I mean, she's not wrong.
María: Still.

To be fair, ROP producers did what I would have done, if I was tasked with making a show about Second Age without having the rights to Second Age source material - they wrote a Galadriel x Sauron fanfiction.

The whole "ascended vs spawn" debate on whether or not you're a decent human on what you decide for a fictional man or that you don't actually like him is tiring. He's not real and not fucking you either way
Tiktok sucks

I still really like LuciferxLilithxMiriam, but I'm also really into ZestialxCarmillaxMiriam. I'm really into both of these, but I have no one to talk with them about, so I'm such thinking up elaborate scenarios while listening to music. Why must I love this silly demon show, and Miriam so much?

I just posted a re-writing with notes of Van Helsing's long speech about why he needs to wait for Arthur before staking Lucy if anyone needs it, but as there's also confusion about his explanation of how vampire!Lucy works, I'm going to try and do a simplified version of that part of the entry too.
This is the original version in the text:
Here, there is one thing which is different from all recorded; here is some dual life that is not as the common. She was bitten by the vampire when she was in a trance, sleep-walking—oh, you start; you do not know that, friend John, but you shall know it all later—and in trance could he best come to take more blood. In trance she died, and in trance she is Un-Dead, too. So it is that she differ from all other. Usually when the Un-Dead sleep at home"—as he spoke he made a comprehensive sweep of his arm to designate what to a vampire was "home"—"their face show what they are, but this so sweet that was when she not Un-Dead she go back to the nothings of the common dead. There is no malign there, see, and so it make hard that I must kill her in her sleep.
And this is my attempt at a simplified paraphrasing, with a few notes for context:
What's going on with Lucy the vampire is unusual for vampires, based on my research. She was bitten while she was in a sleep-walking trance, and her being in this trance was the easiest way for Dracula to feed on her. Since she died and was bitten while in a trance while alive, her undead vampire form also behaves as if she was sleep-walking in a trance, which is different from other vampires. Usually, when vampires are asleep in their tombs, the looks on their faces show their true, evil nature as vampires. (Note: Remember Jonathan's reaction to seeing Dracula in his coffin?) But Lucy was so sweet in life that when she is undead-sleeping in her coffin and not running around as a vampire, she looks as normal and harmless as a regular dead person. She looks so kind and sweet instead of evil when she's just lying in her coffin that it makes it very difficult to kill her while she's just resting.
The short version is that Van Helsing finds it difficult to do violence against Lucy's vampire body while she is resting peacefully in her tomb during the day bc she looks just like her sweet and kind self while she was alive and sleeping, just as a corpse now, so it feels less like destroying an undead monster and more like harming and desecrating the real Lucy from before she was turned, and whom he still cares about. And Lucy the vampire also operates as if she is still sleep-walking in a trance, compared to how the usual vampire moves and acts with purpose and agency, like Dracula himself.
At this point, it's also very important to note and remember Lucy's lack of agency as a vampire, in contrast to how her last moment of agency while alive and herself was to tell Van Helsing not only to protect Arthur, but to, quote, 'Give me peace', and what that means in the context of what she has become and may do if she continues to wander the earth as a vampire, along with her soul being unable to enter heaven right now.

Okay, my own answer to my "playlist for an OC/story you haven't written/talked enough about" challenge is this - I've had a Baldur's Gate 3 modern paranormal AU living in my head for a month or so. It's got a very 90s goth and/or genre TV/movie feel to it, so that's what the music leans toward. If you want to imagine a fight/chase scene montage in fanvid/AMV form, then this might be the playlist for you. It's how my brain works, anyway.
Fun fact: "Come Undone" is probably the least thematic song on this playlist, but it's the song that actually inspired me to start imagining this whole AU, so it stays.

yeah the holiest love part is. (eating dry wall)
(Can I have some) yeah and I think my favorite part of that passage was Van Helsing's speech right before (sorry op you triggered my need to expand).....
"For so surely as we live, that scar shall pass away when God sees right to lift the burden that is hard upon us. Till then we bear our Cross, as His Son did in obedience to His Will. It may be that we are chosen instruments of His good pleasure, and that we ascend to His bidding as that other through stripes and shame; through tears and blood; through doubts and fears, and all that makes the difference between God and man."
It is very rare imo that horror maintains any kind of theological soundness. And I think Jonathan's comment of holy love wouldn't really mean much without it. Van Helsing's dismissal of the physical scar in light of the knowledge of Mina's character and more importantly God's character was so kindly done, as it was such a horrific and hopeless moment for Mina which may not hit as hard to readers who have never taken communion. He doesn't miss a beat in recognizing that even this horrific outward sign of evil did not change anything about Mina herself and I love him for that!!! The comparison to Christ's outward scars and the shame and humiliation he endured while completing the most merciful and righteous act throughout history is so poignant and beautiful.
