Mayhew failed the save to resist the Emperor's offer, and I have never been more pleased at a consequence! What an amazing moment.

This choice!! Or rather, this lack of choice!

I love, love, love how failing the save made Mayhew's own will ambiguous, even to himself. He didn't want to be changed, he didn't want to forfeit his humanity (gnomanity)...or did he? He resisted. He opened his mouth to say I will not, but the door to his mind was already unlocked, power welcomed in. Mayhew will never know who unlatched it.

Also, while this is a Gale run -- Mayhew and Gale make each other worse in the most devoted, well-meaning way; the heavens will rue their names -- it also kind of feels like an Emperor run. A subtextual badwrong not-romance.

The Emperor and Mayhew are allies of circumstance turned intimate enemies. The Emperor listens to Mayhew's every thought, gives protection which Mayhew needs, offers advice and temptations which Mayhew takes. Mayhew likes the Dream Guardian; Mayhew cannot shut the Emperor out. Mayhew would see the Emperor dead, if he let himself think about it, but he would miss him after he was gone. And, of course, Mayhew is too curious for his own good, and the Emperor is full of answers.

For the two of them, partial ceremorphosis is a kind of consummation: what could be more intimate than shaping someone from within and without? Metaphorphosis is a gift, by one telling, and a horror story by another.

You are exquisite, the Emperor praised. Mayhew will never know if he became so by his own will.

Lines!

I don't usually work primarily with line, but I love it. In some ways, it's easier than painting, and in other ways much harder. I find I can't fudge things as much with linework as I can with paint; because the stroke is smaller, I have to be more specific. Even if I abstract details away, I need to understand the underlying form until I know what I am abstracting. It was fun having to be so rigorous.

went to a tattoo flash event with my partner (right before she had to go into work LOL) and got another lil guy tattoo. i am slowly forming a leg of what im calling the lil guy leg. it just has funny cartoony creatures on it.

I've done another 32 since.#You may recognize the bottom row as elves from beasties of greenhollow. They aren't as central to the story #But I frankly adore the game mechanic they provide. I don't think any card game has done what they do #Flatmate loves when I give him a new version to test. He will sit and experiment with every deck I've made #I've taken a little break from it. We went to Amsterdam together a week ago and loved it. Well in hindsight anyway.#I was frankly stressing out about every little thing. But I got some nice photos.#First time organizing a holiday with a friend... that wasn't just to Arran. We did that and it was miserable. sorry.#Really it was only because of the state I was in emotionally. But also there isn't a lot to do there.#I recently got back to walking. I took a break over winter because my shoes got DEMOLISHED from so much use.#And I had to use my backup ones. Today I walked for 3 hours and felt damn good after. I might get even fitter this year.#Work hours are down. I'm doing okay though. Frankly I want more time to work on this game.#ALSO I SAW NELWARD LIVE!!! I was so fucking excited. He signed my record sleeve. I'm kind of collecting them.#It's far more of a “normal” hobby to collect records than digimon cards or japanese ps1 games. Maybe I'm growing up????#I'm really proud of what this is forming into. The story is forming up and it's linking everything together beautifully.#I just need to actually finish it. I've proven with BoG that I can actually finish what I start and I'm really proud of myself #But it turned out far less than I wanted it to be. I'm not at liberty to say what went wrong but let's just say I'm glad I'm solo for this.#I'm eating a good bit better too. Heddwyn "Wyn" Caldera is a freshman from Diasomnia. He's well known in alchemical circles for multiple revolutionary breakthroughs in the world of potions, the first of which he discovered at eight years old. Though invited to NRC last year at age thirteen, he waited a year before accepting a position at the school.

based off the black cauldron. both the movie and like. the cauldron itself. naturally he is good at potions. since the cauldron is essentially a mcguffin wanted by everyone the idea is that he's extremely good at what he does but is also pretty vulnerable to being used. he's also very stone-faced bc he's...... made of stone............ get it.............

Idk what general consensus is because I've been offline all day but that was the best episode of the series. Just to be clear: still not good.

#again. a LOW bar.#obviously does not hold a candle to season one #but like. i actually enjoyed that. felt much more in line with at least the vibe of season 2.#and maybe I'm just so worn down by the rest of the season being so bad but like. that was about as satisfying a finale as i could ask for.#i won't be watching s4 if it happens. i actually really like that as an ending.#like i don't need to see any more #because it will DEFINITELY be even worse than that series.#there's not many loose ends to tie up now so there's even more room to just make up more nonsense #and i don't want to carry on watching a show made by people that have such disregard for its actors and the art of storytelling in general.#ESPECIALLY when that disregard disproportionately affects the woc actors and characters #and now i can pretend that callie killed her father and she's on the run :)#still VERY bitter about Lottie and the way all of that was handled #but we DID get taissa turner tearing van palmer's heart from her chest and eating it and really that's all i was asking for.#i feel like this might be divisive but i really did like the way the pilot was tied in. i really actually liked that a lot.#honestly even just for like. closure if anything.#idk. i think my expectations were SO low that it didn't take much to impress me.#I'm just really glad it's over and it was only 90% awful #and what makes the whole season more frustrating is that there were CRUMBS of good. that they just threw in the bin.#awesome.#anyway. that's my thoughts if anyone cares. not sure how coherent any of this is i've been having a weird day.#thoughts may change.#yellowjackets #yellowjackets spoilers
