nohecharei are maybe one of the best worldbuilding concepts ever. elite bodyguards are obviously inherently sexy, but then you add 'they are sworn to their charge for their entire lives' and 'when their charge dies they kill themselves and get buried with them' and 'they can literally never leave their charge unattended on pain of death' it's literally peak nothing is coming close to this

finished the goblin emperor. pretty much only have good things to say about it. did not expect it to be so wordy and dare i say crawling at times, but i appreciate how it dared to keep to its own pace and say everything it wanted to say and i was never bored with any of it. also enjoyed how the chapters were (mostly) contained to their own little event in maia's new life as an emperor with the cute detail of chapter titles. the characters also felt very effectively characterized, even the ones who only had a few lines or pages to make their presence felt. the world, too, felt very detailed and well thought-out without hammering a whole bunch of lore onto the reader. you can really feel the enthusiasm and curiosity katherine addison had for this world and its characters, but the way in which it was presented felt very... contained? strange to say for a 400+ page book, but i mean it had a very satisfying balance of presenting us the most interesting parts of these character's personalities and histories and society without overloading us with, what i am sure, was a very extensive worldbuilding document. very satisfying read for enjoyers of immersive fantasy court politics. with goblins and elves front and center!

It’s incredibly funny (and incredibly telling) to me that every time we see Frost have the love curse (not even in ouaw, since he was only affected by a love potion, and it literally went nowhere), he just. Gets incredibly horny.

Sure, in the non-canon pre-ouaw Feywild campaign, Nikkie kinda started the horniness with the “that’s one sexy cat/goblin” thing, but in OUAW proper? When Frost drank the love potion, and fell in love with Kremy, he immediately asked if Kremy would want to sit on the Ferris Wheel together with him. Alone. (Ofc it was a throwaway line that didn’t go anywhere and was promptly forgotten but yknow how I am about throwaway lines). Or how about in one of the live shows, when Frost and Torbek got affected with a love curse. Iirc, Frost was the one that instigated the horniness, and Torbek (being Torbek) was ofc along for the ride (hehe)

Something something Frost being aromantic and thus the love curses not affecting him the same way as it does the others, so he just gets horny instead

Genuinely love the stories of The Magnus Archives and Old Gods of Appalachia but it takes so much mental energy to get through just two episodes back to back because it makes the caveman part of my brain go, “oh, ok, we will never sleep again. We must face the darkness to protect the family. Every time you stare into the dark you will feel it staring back, and you will wait to see if it moves. You will not be able to consider the possibility of a benevolent god, you will feel worms beneath your skin, you will think every shadow is a being beyond comprehension and every chill is an omen. You will not be able to eat comfortably for days because your heart is constricting every artery ready to pounce at a thing that is not there. The heat will cloud your mind and coming of night will never be the relief it once was ever again. There is nothing you can do but wait, because fighting is a dream delusion feeds its weakest and most frightened for the thrill of a chase.” and that lowkey makes it kinda hard to exist nicely.

Something I feel often goes unrecognized in discussion of Harry Osborn is the fact that he is the Only Child of a Single Parent.

In my experience/observation (both real and fictional) the only child/single parent bond is so inexorable it's hard to fully comprehend. Few other things will bind two people together in such a way.

Like many familial relationships, it's full of a thousand little hurts that will probably never get brought up again. Sometimes you let the relationship go by the wayside in pursuit of your own life goals because you take it for granted that family will always be around. But there's a unique flavor to it.

Deep down inside you there's an awareness that it's Just The Two Of You. For the child, it may have been just the two of you from your very earliest memories. Sure, you know other people. There are extended family and friends and maybe the parent has a romantic partner or two. But at the end of the day, in your home, in your hearts (something you carry with you no matter where you go) the two of you are all you have and all you feel you can really depend on.

A world in which the two of you aren't together is almost impossible to picture and you don't want to try, even in the moments you wish you could just get away from each other. Being an only child separated from a single parent for the first time ‐ even on normal and amicable terms like when you move out on your own - makes you realize, again and again, how many ways your parent has influenced you. The things you say that you heard from them first, the habits, the opinions. You love them, but sometimes it feels like they still... OWN you, even though you are your own person. Sometimes that frightens you, but the alternative is even more frightening.

Like all love, it'll make you behave selfishly and irrationally at times.

And it'll really make you DEFENSIVE.

If you're Harry Osborn and complain a bit about your dad being a dickhead while deep down wondering if he really even cares about you, that's one thing. But if anyone says a word against him in your presence you have to backtrack. You have to argue in his defense because he's all you have and you're all he has. Loss would unbearable.

Look, guys. It has been years since Harry and Norman Osborn have gotten along or been able to really enjoy each other's company, if they ever could. But if anything happened to the other they would kill everyone in this room and then themselves, do you understand what I'm saying?
