2. After 17-Year Absence, White Rhinos Return to the Democratic Republic of the Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) recently welcomed the reintroduction of 16 southern white rhinoceroses to Garamba National Park, according to officials. The last wild northern white rhino was poached there in 2006.
The white rhinos were transported to Garamba, which lies in the northeastern part of the country, from a South African private reserve. In the late 19th century, the southern white rhino subspecies was believed to be extinct due to poaching until a population of fewer than 100 was discovered in South Africa in 1895, according to WWF.
3. UK to wipe women’s historic convictions for homosexuality
Women with convictions for some same-sex activity in the United Kingdom can apply for a pardon for the first time, the Home Office has announced.
The Home Office is widening its scheme to wipe historic convictions for homosexual activity more than a decade after the government allowed applications for same-sex activity offences to be disregarded.
It means anyone can apply for a pardon if they have been convicted or cautioned for any same-sex activity offences that have been repealed or abolished.
4. Study shows human tendency to help others is universal
A new study on the human capacity for cooperation suggests that, deep down, people of diverse cultures are more similar than you might expect. The study, published in Scientific Reports, shows that from the towns of England, Italy, Poland, and Russia to the villages of rural Ecuador, Ghana, Laos, and Aboriginal Australia, at the micro scale of our daily interaction, people everywhere tend to help others when needed.
5. In a First, Wind and Solar Generated More Power Than Coal in U.S.
Wind and solar generated more electricity than coal through May, an E&E News review of federal data shows, marking the first time renewables have outpaced the former king of American power over a five-month period.

6. Iceland becomes latest country to ban conversion therapy
Lawmakers in Iceland on June 9 approved a bill that will ban so-called conversion therapy in the country.

7. The temple feeding 100,000 people a day
Amritsar, the north Indian city known for its Golden Temple and delicious cuisine, is also renowned for its spirit of generosity and selfless service. The city, founded by a Sikh guru, embodies the Sikh tradition of seva, performing voluntary acts of service without expecting anything in return.
This spirit of giving extends beyond the temple walls, as the Sikh community has shown immense compassion during crises, such as delivering oxygen cylinders during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the heart of Amritsar's generosity is the Golden Temple's langar, the world's largest free communal kitchen, serving 100,000 people daily without discrimination. Despite a history marred by tragic events, Amritsar continues to radiate kindness, love, and generosity.

Percy Jackson Preview at NYCC 2023
SPOILERS for the first seven minutes of the series!
We were shown the first seven minutes of the first episode, and a short excerpt of the Minotaur chase scene. This is a breakdown of what happens in the first seven minute excerpt to the best of my memory.
Opens with the ICONIC “I didn’t want to be a half blood” voice over as Percy approaches the camera in a stormy setting, very dramatic and moody
Cuts to title card!
Continued VO with flashback as Baby Percy (7years old) sees strange things and gets into trouble over it. He’s on a roof watching a Pegasus, zoning out in class watching a golden rhino that goes down the streets of NYC until he looks back and it’s just a garbage truck (the Myst at work). Percy is sent to therapy and outcast over these things and told it’s all in his head.
VO Percy introduces Grover who is also outcast, but who listens and does not judge about the things Percy sees. They exchange a Minotaur trading card and Percy doodles various mythical creatures.
Shift to Met museum field trip, Chiron gives a theme-stated moment about the gods and Greek history being about who you are etc. Percy looks at assignment where the words are all moving around, showing his Dyslexia.
While looking at a statue of Perseus, it flashes back to Baby Percy with his mom telling him why he’s named after Perseus; Percy says he’s a hero because he slays monsters; Percy’s mom warns that not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero or villain is a villain. #foreshadowing
Percy is drawn back to present with Nancy and Ms Dodds giving a hard time (ableist bs from Nancy “Percy’s special”) Chiron interrupts and gives the pen / riptide (comic con crowd goes wild, naturally)
Percy and Grover eat lunch outside the museum, sitting on the edge of a fountain, wordlessly w hanging food items (Grover takes a slice of cheese off Percy’s sandwich which I thought was hilarious). They talk about Nancy and Percy jokes (or perhaps does not joke) about shoving her into a dumpster while Grover says to never stand up to bullies. They’re interrupted by Nancy throwing some sort of food which hits Grover in the face. Percy goes to stand up to her and almost goes to shove her but he doesn’t even touch her before she’s flying back and landing in the fountain. Nancy shouts “PERCY PUSHED ME” and that’s the end of the preview!!!

That's not forgetting the fact MK was also in big trouble.
Wukong: 1300 years, Macaque! We have been married, officially, for over 1300 years! What in Newa's name would compelling you to look me in the eye and lie to my face about this!? For over a year!
Macaque: I-I know, but Peaches this was important! I promise, I promise I was only trying to protect you and our cubs!
Wukong: FAT LOAD OF GOOD THAT DID! We all got dragged into it anyway, Liu'er! Xiaotian was searching for you every day, getting into fights with demons and celestials alike to figure out where you went! Our powers are gone, we're being chased across all of China and beyond while our home is a literal icicle, and the Lady Bone Demon has Ringu Jingu Bang! How is this protecting us!?
Tang, whispering to MK: Is... is this the famous temper that once gave Sun Wukong the reputation of being capable of cowing even the great Li Jing!?
MK nods mutely: I heard the story. Apparently, I was there, just not born yet.
Small cute headcanon, but I headcanon that Tripitaka had officiated Wukong and Macaque's official wedding in JTTW Stone Egg au
referencing. Hehe I love all of this
Macaque: "Are son was getting into fights!?... did he win?"
Wukong: "OF COURSE HE WON! HE'S OUR SON! DON'T CHANGE THE SUBJECT!"
The Noodle Shop Gang: (*keeping a safe distance*)
Tang, whispering jokingly: "Oh my gosh. Flashback to the Golden Pouch Mountain, am I right?"
Nezha, with a thousand-yard stare: "Yeah, Macaque is not in Sun Wukong's good graces at the moment. I stll remember having to hoist him up so that he could look my father in the eye while he screamed."
Tang, fascinated: "I... I was just joking but omg. He had you lift him up? Thats so cute!"
Nezha: "Yeah, I wasn't about to argue with a hormonal expectant monkey. The only reason that anger wasn't directed at me was because he saw me as a cub to protect. My father crumbled like a stone pillar after the first five minutes."
MK, laughing nervously: "I was there! Just an Egg though."
The Noodle Shop Gang: (*realising just how old MK is*) "wut"
And oh gosh the legendary "Shouting at General Li Jing for the Rhino King incident". I love the idea of historians jotting that down and forgetting the context of why Sun Wukong was so furious at the Pagoda King.
I feel like Macaque deliberately struck himself out of many records to keep his and MK's presence a secret from mortal eyes and ears. But some people (esp demon historians) still wrote down that the Monkey King had a super-protective-adoring mate during his Journey to the West.
Basically most of Macaque's reunion + MK's reveal to his mom/baba that he's been secretly a superhero is Wukong yelling at them for hours from worry.
