MODERN FARMER -- Is Your Favorite New Mushroom Eradicating Native Mushroom Species?

BY NATALIE JESIONKA (FGJ ‘21) -- Golden oyster mushrooms, with sunny-golden thumbprint caps, branch-like gills and clusters of fruiting bodies, are originally from Japan, Eastern Russia and Northern China, and they are prized for their culinary uses. They’re also easily cultivated, which, in this case, is a problem. They have been spotted in forests throughout the Midwest and Northeastern United States and are now so prolific in Southern Wisconsin that foragers can leave the forest with garbage bags full of the mushroom in one foray. Scientists are sounding the alarm, and in mycology and foraging communities, they are considered invasive; however, officially, there is little regulation around growing the fungi. READ MORE.

So this Father's Day I bought myself a gift (will show off in stories) and I received a gift that kept on giving. This is a mushroom grow kit. This pre inoculated kit came with 4 different grow bags inuculated with 4 types of mushrooms. #GoldenOyster,, #PinkOyster , #Blueoyster , and #Chestnutmushrooms The directions are pretty easy it's cut sit and watch with a little bit of spray just to make sure the blocks stay moist. I enjoy mushrooms but this is out of my comfort zone. Nevertheless always down to try new things , I am excited! I had the most wonderful photo shoot last week at @fratellifresh for @lickyourphone and @meandu ⁣⁠⠀ ⁣⁠⠀ I never knew Fratelli Fresh had food this good. Cocktails, pizzas and pastas so good I have gone on a diet since the shoot haha. And I was so blown away - they had oysters with GOLD on them - it looked like a crustacean had crossed with a jewel and should only be served to royalty. I took two :).⁣⁠⠀ ⁣⁠⠀ Full disclosure, #meandu is a client but the #billythebeacon is on the tables at Fratelli Fresh Darling Harbour and I am so impressed with this ordering and payment solution. I am totally biased but it has helped me a few times recently while checking it out at venues. Their expansion is huge and with $8mil in funding announced this week the options for their growth and success potential is out of this world.
