The 5 Best Winter Golf Courses Worth Visiting
For many of us, the onset of winter weather shuts down our favorite golf courses for the season. But if you aren’t interested in waiting until spring brings warmer weather and your local fairways reopen, there are plenty of golf destinations that are well worth the trip.
Tumblr media
Team building, market research—call it whatever you want. But don’t miss the chance to make a winter golf trip to one of these outstanding courses. Better yet, get yourself in for a custom golf club fitting and embark on your golf excursion with a set of cutting-edge clubs. Instead of waiting for your go-to course to thaw out, try one of these top-tier winter golf destinations this year. Reynolds Lake Oconee: Great Waters Since opening in 1992, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at Great Waters has garnered high praise for its outstanding architecture. The layout is superb, and the scenery makes for one of the most immersive rounds of golf you’ll ever play. The back nine at Great Waters offers a distinctive experience. The last eight holes are right on the lake, making the water visible or putting it in play for every hole. It’s no wonder this course ranks as one of the top 100 golf courses in any season. Golf Club at Dove Mountain: Saguaro/Tortolita/Wild Burro This award-winning club features three Jack Nicklaus Signature nine-hole courses that are each a Par 36 and measure just shy of 4,000 yards. Originally part of the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain resort, the club was founded in 2009. Public access is limited, but the club is open to Ritz-Carlton guests and has a private membership. Interestingly, the club is certified as an Audobon Sanctuary. It also boasts stunning views of the desert valley below. Omni Barton Creek Resort The Omni at Barton Creek is a resort worth visiting on its own, but this destination also lays claim to the best golf in Texas. The four Omni courses are situated in the heart of Austin’s Hill Country, just 10 miles southwest of downtown. This highly-ranked spot is one of the nation’s top golf destinations, so if you visit, be sure to arrive practiced and prepared with top-of-the-line hybrid golf clubs and everything else you need to make the most of your experience. Kiva Dunes Golf Course Kiva Dunes bills itself as the top public golf course in Alabama, and it’s a claim you’d be hard-pressed to dispute. From the seclusion to the gorgeous landscape and award-winning course, Kiva Dunes has everything you could want out of a winter golf destination. They’re serious about their dress code, though. Don’t bother packing any denim or shirts without collars. Kiva Dunes is well worth packing your finest golf apparel. Kiawah Island Golf Resort Home to five courses designed by the likes of Pete Dye, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player, Kiawah Island Golf Resort is a must-visit for serious players. From the Ryder Cup to the PGA Championship and many more, the top-level golf tournaments are held at Kiawah Island. Enjoy a tailored golf experience built around your preferences, enhance your game with private instruction, and experience the superior playability of Paspalum for yourself. Cockles vs J2 Tinhats
Tumblr media
Someone tagged me in a post with a gif of Jensen smacking Misha in the crotchel region in last year's gag reel.  You know the one.  Apparently, it is supposed to be proof of Cockles.  The person who tagged me ships destiel and cockles.  She put a smiley face next to the tag, and she followed me, which might mean she is trying to be friends.  Not sure.  Well hello hun.  Thanks for tagging me.  I don't know what the purpose is.  Maybe you want me to see what you see.  Hunny, I know what cockles is.  I am familiar with tinhatting and I am fairly thick-skinned about it.  So unless you take the hatty stuff to the actors, I have problem with you...the cockles tinhats actually do tweet hatty things to the actors.  Hmm, not cool.
This will be a good opportunity to examine both Cockles and J2 tinhat theories.  And why that clip is not proof of cockles for me. Just for fun.
Jensen and Misha
As a lead, Jensen is contracted to be in every episode.  Misha, a guest star, is only in a few episodes per season.  This means that these two actors don't get to spend a massive amount of time with each other unless they are working.  Misha lives, to the best of my knowledge, in Bellingham.  Jensen used to live in California, but moved to Austin.  Jensen usually does only one panel per year with Misha.  Jibcon.  If it weren't for conventions, they would spend even less time with each other.  If you love some one and you are a lead, wont you ask for more panels with that person.  Yes, I know someone will that they don't do more than one panel because the evil bronlies will complain.  Hunny, if they cared about fans throwing a tantrum, Misha would have been off the show the minute Jensen received a death threat from hellers.
Misha and Jensen have no common interest.  Jensen loves watching sports, playing golf, listening to rock music, playing the guitar and singing.  Misha likes, cycling, carpentry and Tibetan throat singing.  They have nothing in common.  If you like someone who has different interests than you, wouldn't you try to learn more about their interests and join them in pursuing their interests.  Jensen and Misha also don't have complimentary personalities.  Jensen doesn't swear on stage.  Misha is foul mouthed.  Jensen doesn't make overtly sexual remarks.  Misha is very vulgar on stage.  They outlook on the art of acting is also starkly different.  Jensen has a love for his craft, whilst Misha has confessed to not having a particular knack or passion for acting.
According to tinhats, Cockles are happily marreid to their respective wives but all four of them have orgies together.  Of course, there are variations to this theory.  When cockles tinhats are asked what proof they have for how they feel, they say:
Jensen laughs at Misha's jokes [and its a unicorn laugh apparently]
They mention Jibcon, where they claim Jensen got drunk and flirted with Misha on stage.
Jensen and Misha are flirty with each other, caressing each other's cheeks.
Jared Padalecki is proof of cockles because he ships it the most and gives clues to what is going on between Jensen and Misha.
They share shirts.
The crux of Misha's first impression of Jensen [from an earlier con]:
‘He actually seemed standoffish, when I first met him.  As I got to know him, however, I realized that he really is standoffish.’
Jared and Jensen
Jared and Jensen are the leads.  They spend nine months out of the year working with each other.  They have worked together nonstop for the past 13 years and counting.  They also live down the road from each other in Austin.  They used to live together and were best men at each other's weddings.  Their children go to the same school and call dad's friend ''uncle''.  Tom is Jensen's greatest fan and Jared regrets not being there for the birth of ''Birdie'' [JJ].  They have an extended family situation.  Despite spending all their time together, they also go on holidays together.  They are both middle children, both have an older brother and younger sister, grew up in Texas, love country music and sports.  Jared plays the guitar in his trailer everyday and, according to Jensen, he is very good.  Jared joins Jensen to play golf although he admits he is not very good at it.
Jared doesn't swear on stage.  He did once, by accident, but he was mortified and apologized.  He makes goofy jokes, not vulgar ones.  Jensen admires Jared's rendition of white suit luci but to date hasn't really said anything truly about Casifer.  He did laugh at the Empty!Cas voice though.  So Jensen admires Jared's acting efforts.  It wasn't the first compliment he paid to Jared's acting abilities.  He hasn't done the same for Misha's work as Castiel.  Jared helped Jensen with the construction work for the FBBC.  When Jared got sick at Jib a few years ago, Jensen took to the stage and sang a song because being Jared's emotional support.  The next year or so, he sang the song again on Saturday night, with Jared watching teary eyed.  That same year Jensen hugged Jared in the closing ceremony.  The year after that, Jensen hugged and sang Wayward to Jared in the hallway after the closing ceremony.  When he broke down, he hugged Jared many times, but when Misha tried hugging him, Jensen said ''don't''.
According to J2 tinhats, J2 have been married to each other since season four ish.  Genevieve signed a contract to be Jared's wife, and Danneel was just helping out her friend Jensen.  J2 are the parents of six children.  There are variations to this theory too.  When asked for proof of their feelings, J2 tinhats say the following:
Jared wiped his snotty nose on Jensen's sleeve.
Jared called his drink and dinner with Jensen #datenight on Twitter.
When someone called Sandy [Jared's ex-girlfriend] his beard, she liked the comment.
When Travis spent his entire panel talking about how in love J2 are, he got pulled out of the next con.
For Jared's honeymoon, he went on a group trek up Machu Pichu and slept in a tent, and for Jensen's honeymoon, Danneel's brother Gino went with them.   Both were delayed honeymoons.
Jared wore Jensen's underwear.
The crux of Jared's first impression of Jensen [from a recent afternoon panel]:
'He and I had so much in common.  It didn't feel like a blind date.'
I don't tinhat, but I don't blame the J2 tinhat.  The Cockles tinhats don't seem to have compelling info, and they take the hatting to the stars.  That is not cool.
As far as the gag reel goes, smacking someone in the crotch area is not a sign of affection.  It is horseplay.  Its pranking.  Jared fondles Misha in the crotch area.  Misha barreled into Richard, landing on top of him.  Its not a big deal, and its certainly not sound evidence of anything other than boys being boys.  Enjoy your hatting, but leave the actors alone and don't go out of your way to pull people into your circle.  But the J2 tinhats don't do that?  As far as I know.
Forgive all typos.  Insomnia sucks!

So I fell a lot faster than I could have even imagined .
And that fall has forever changed the person I was, who I am , and who I will be.
After that 1st night , where we had such an amazing time making my birthday memorable instead of depressing. We went back to his hotel room, talked for hours longer with the nervous feeling in our stomachs, not knowing how far was too far to go or initiate on this first night, it was greatly stopping us from just ripping the others clothes off.  But of course eventually we let our guards down enough to let the other one in, inside that boundary that the majority of the world will never cross.
He fit me perfectly, after some slow initial thrusts of course, he was bigger than most and I’m tighter than most.Yet It was definitely 1st time sex, kinda the initial figuring out the other person and how they tick, and the awkward bumping of heads while switching positions. When all was said and done and we had already gone for round two which was a little better, but all I could think about was I couldn’t wait to get more comfortable with him. Thankfully I knew that we were going to have plenty of time to do that, because he had already agreed to make a small (not small)  detour to austin in two days to drop me off at the airport.
Lets not get too ahead of ourselves and I just can’t forget this part, where I woke up the next morning to him in between my legs , him completely clothed, yet I was still in my birthday suit. Surprisingly I didn’t wake up startled at all considering, I just looked up at him as he was peering down at me, in a way I still can’t quite describe, except for the fact that I know it wasn’t a bad look. No it was almost admiring ,he soon noticed me now awake, as quickly he could see my thoughts processing his face slowly went into a smile, and me looking back at him. He slowly kissed down my leg letting me know just how pleased he was with my body, even in its morning glory.
After that session was done before it even started. He ran off to play golf and I promised him I’d be able to find a ride back to my friends to pack everything. Little did I know that my lack of money and my friends super being lame, I would have to walk in the humid heat of corpus christi, two and half miles or so. Super hung over and cursing the heels I wore the night before… which I never do. But by the time I got to Charlie’s Place ( a bar) and stopped for a beer I was exhausted and luckily found a ride the rest of the way. And so when I completely passed out when arriving at my friends place I didnt even think to plug into my phone an alarm. I had a couple hours to rest, I should be good.
Well that doesn’t help if your phone dies now does it
He was supposed to pick me up after golf at 2pm …..
I woke up at 4pm…
Scrambling I plug in my phone and call him.
First call no answer
Second call he answers, luckily he lets me explain. And something I never thought would happen. Does.
He turns around to come back and get me.
That in itself told me enough about this man  A man of his word. It intrigued me a bit more than i would have liked at that time..
See as fate would have it I was planning on moving to Denver Colorado, had everything packed and ready to get out of texas and move my life to the wonderfully unknown Denver area. Texas had become too familiar, almost boring as I was able to predict what was going to happen next . I crave the ambiguity of a foreign place , the unknown entices me, tickles my fancy and lets me walk into any scenario being exactly who I am with no one else’s preconceived notions to worry about. It’s truly a beautiful moment to me.
But when I got onto that plane and it started to take off the tarmac, I had an overwhelming feeling that I might never see this man again. The man that made me full on belly laugh, over and over again when I couldn’t even remember the last time I had even laughed. This man who kissed me with such passion and purpose and then would pull  away and just look at me as is he was making sure it was all still real, and I wasn’t a figment of his imagination. He was a gentleman, and sweet, thought of me before himself in basically every aspect. He was unlike anyone I had every dated in my entire life. And I liked that about him too. It was almost too good to be true though, almost waiting for the rug to be pulled out from under my feet.
Would I never really see him again ? The thought was too much to bare and the tears start streaming down my face .
Trying to keep composure was not even an option to break the stoic psisade…. eventually I had to just let it happen. Although I kept quiet I’m sure a couple people had to have seen me cry in that far too crowded airplane. I quickly fell asleep after that as I usually do in every flight I take. Its as if the altitude fucks with my head and then the hum of the planes engine lulls me into a deep deep sleep.
I will have to go into the Denver stories at another time . There is too much to cover in the Mr. Knight series to go off on a tangent. So Mr. Knight and I kept up with each other, talking everyday. And everyday I seemed to like him more and more. Then he asked me to leave Denver and meet him in California where work was taking him off his normal route and  to fill in for another colleague. We just saw it as something new and exciting. I was flattered he even wanted me to experience it with him. But I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you all that I selfishly wanted to go on that trip with him all along I loved adventures, and I really liked him .
SO the early morning came and me and my bestie Kawan were jetting off to the airport, and once again I’m running to the gate, barely squeezing in the door as they are about to close it.
Let the lulling of the engine resume and a deep sleep commence.
Getting off the plane and walking to the baggage claim area I was so excited to see him I just wanted it to be like a fairy tale and me run into his arms and he spins me round and round as we kissed . ( i know I’m a lame-o) And so when I finally saw him in his awfully fantastic neon shirt with a sign that said Ms Gogo and a huge red clown nose on that handsome face of his I couldn’t help but melt a bit, blush a lot and love every second of the moment.
A memory that will never be forgotten.
Even better, as we were walking he slyly slipped a clown nose on my own face so we could match. It was awesome start to the adventure.

Answer all the EVEN numbered questions!!!
Alright let’s do this!
2. You talked to an ex today, correct?
- Not yet but Megan ( @lamerperle ) and I are sending tons of snaps to Denell ( @denellynell ) from Austin, TX
4. Is trust a big issue for you?
- It’s an issue in the fact that I trust way too easily, I give people the benefit of the doubt and I assume everyone has good intentions.*
6. What are you excited for?
- RTX THIS WEEKEND
8. Do you think it’s disgusting when girls get really wasted?
- I think it’s disgusting when ANYBODY gets really wasted or even moderately tipsy tbh
10. What is the last beverage you had?
- Water at Peter Pan mini golf.
12. Do you own a pair of skinny jeans?

14. What are you going to spend money on next?
- Probably a Lyft to go get breakfast
16. Do you think you’ll change in the next 3 months?
- Who knows, last RTX taught me a life lesson two years ago but I’m hoping this one doesn’t do that though. Most likely not. Well, faire is within the next three months so that might change me in some way. Preparing for it already has.
18. The last time you felt broken?
- What time is it? 5 minutes ago? Feeling broken is my thing. I’m asexual, I don’t drink, I don’t do drugs, and I know I’m a huge stick-in-the-mud/buzz kill when people are trying to have a good time with substances and I look uncomfortable in the corner. I AM broken.
20. Are you starting to realize anything?
- Apparently somebody likes me more than I previously thought.
22. Would you ever want to swim with sharks?
- FUCK YEAH I’M DOWN :D
24. What do you want right this second?
- For Megan to be enjoying herself as much as I am. I honestly hope she is.
26. Is your current hair color your natural hair color?
- Yes, unfortunately my extremely thinning hair on top doesn’t let me experiment with colors very much. It looks bad enough as-is but I don’t want it getting any worse.
28. What was the last thing that made you laugh?
- Megan couldn’t figure out the shower and I’m just like bam there you go.
30. Does everyone deserve a second chance?
- Depends on how they broke the first chance.
32. Does the person you have feelings for right now, know
- I hope so, I’m fairly certain she does
34. Listening to?
- This poor AC unit trying it’s hardest in the Austin heat.
36. Do you know where the last person you kissed is?
- Not EXACTLY where she is, the 4th of July parade for faire got rained out so she could be getting food, hanging out with faire people, back home, on the road, who knows?
38. Who did you last call?

Emily’s GA Apartment
For future reference, I have compiled pictures of Emily’s apartment in Georgia. She had purchased it by March 30, 2014, going by this (X):
“Kinney’s gotten comfortable in Georgia for now, having bought an apartment in what she calls a “golf cart community” in a town next to Atlanta.”
(It should also be noted that Gimple said he’s had Beth’s death planned since season 4, so he would have cautioned Emily from buying a place: X.) Anyway, this post was prompted by @emilysnorman. In a post I made about Emily’s tweets early in season 5 filming, emilysnorman pointed out that Emily’s New York apartment has wood floors while her Georgia place has carpeting: (X).
The second part of this meta is also based off a post I read over a year ago. I can’t find it now, but I remember the pertinent information, so I researched it myself. If any of you know about the original post, please let me know.
Under a read more because it is picture heavy.
Emily had the place as early as the summer of 2013, as she posted this picture on July 13th, 2013. (The white bed frame appears in another picture which matches her Georgia place.)

This is Emily’s apartment. In a latergram she posted late that year, she wore the same black-shirt with the fur-like fringe. That latergram is definitely in her Georgia apartment.

This is the latergram. You can see she’s wearing the same outfit, and she also has the mug. She probably took both pictures at the same time. She likely has many pictures saved on her phone so she can latergram.
Between the end of season four filming and the end of season five filming, Emily performed at Eddie’s Attic three times. She first performed on November 25th. On the 16th, she was in Georgia for the wrap party, and she didn’t post on Instagram between those dates except once on the 21st. She likely was in Georgia that entire week.
Tumblr media
Source (X).
By the 27th, she was with her family for Thanksgiving (X).
She was at Eddie’s Attic again on March 17th to promote the rerelease of Expired Love, which came out the following day (X). She didn’t post about her location again till the 20th, confirming she had been Georgia.
Tumblr media
Source (X).
She then went to Orlando for MegaCon the weekend of the 21st to 23rd (X). But she missed New York so much that she rushed home the night of the 23rd.
Tumblr media
Source (X).
If you were already in Orlando for work, wouldn’t you stay an extra day to rest up and to enjoy the weather? It indicates that she hadn’t been in New York for a while. On March 5th she was still in New York as she was on CBS New York (X) (X). On the 6th, she recorded her interview with MTV.com, which was later posted on the 11th (X).
Tumblr media
Source (X).
The following day, she performed in Cherry Hill, New Jersey at Monster Mania (X) (X). This was also posted by delawareonline, one of my local papers, and Emily was so close what the fuck. Why didn’t I know about this? On March 9th, she posted a latergrammed picture.
Tumblr media
Source (X).
Then she performed threes from March 11th to the 12th at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas (X). On the 13th, she was in Chicago for an interview (X), before she appeared at the first WSC on the 14th.
Tumblr media
Source (X).
Tumblr media
Source (X).
She disappeared on March 15th and 16th, so she was likely in Georgia, as she would have mentioned getting back to New York. If she had a few days off before MegaCon, wouldn’t she just fly back to New York? Why would she stay in Georgia if she had no other gigs?
Emily likely had her three Eddie’s Attic performances to justify her being in Georgia. Her Halloween performance would have obviously been as a cover while she filmed post-Coda. I think in November 2013 and March 2014 she was meeting with TPTB in Georgia. The meetings would have been focused planning and preparing for Beth’s arc. Such preparations would include the rigorous filming, her social media activity, and her answers to interviews she would be asked leading up to and post Coda. They needed to coach her sometime. They probably took her to the studio and put her through secret arc boot camp, which would include getting into a van from her trailer without being seen, tilting her hat the right to hide the bullet scar, saving pictures to latergram, etc. It’s plausible. Writers and actors communicate about their characters and upcoming arcs. She even met with the writers that April 11th.
Tumblr media
Source (X).
So now we come to the second part of this piece. On the afternoon of November 16th, 2014, Emily posted a picture from her Georgia apartment. It was in support of Consumed, which aired that night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Later that day she posted twice about filming the Bulletproof Picasso video:

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Source (X) (X).
I remember the post talking about how cold it was that day. I researched the weather for Los Angeles, and the mean temperature that day was 65 degrees.
Tumblr media
Source (X).
So on the 16th, the temperature ranged between 55 and 74 degrees, with an average of 65. That water would have been too cold to splash around in, especially since it was the Pacific. I grew up with a pool. It takes a long time for  water to heat up, and even if the general temperature is warm, the water will feel much colder than the air. The Bulletproof Picasso was not filmed in mid-November. Its album, also called Bulletproof Picasso, came out in September of that year, and the album’s first single came out in June. With how in-depth the planning and marketing have been for this arc, I would not be surprised if TPTB set this up. They wanted Emily’s first non-music project to be a music video referring to a bulletproof artist. The theme song played; “Beth” was first seen afterwards with the music playing. Since the video also has so many Beth parallels (X), TPTB likely reached out to Train and worked out a deal. The bum pic is in Emily’s apartment, and since the Train pictures are latergrams, that would mean her bum pic isn’t. She was in her apartment, and considering her last scenes were filmed in late August, she would have sold her apartment by then. On the 15th, Emily was in California. She reunited with a friend of hers (X) (X), and she was wearing blue nail polish. TDers later figured out that she was filming her Rockstar video out there (X). It should be noted that the season 5 wrap party was on the 16th (X), and that filming finished right after midnight on the 22nd (X). Beth foot was spotted on the 17th, the day Emily posted from her trailer. She was holding a polaroid of the Bulletproof Picasso shoot, and she wasn’t wearing nail polish. What likely happened is Emily arrived in Georgia on the 16th and spent the better part of the week filming before she finished the Rockstar music video.
Emily still has her apartment in Georgia, because Beth is here to stay. For a long time.

Got an Idea for a T-Shirt? Here’s How to Earn Money From It on the Side
Josh Waldron is usually skeptical when he hears stories about people making colossal amounts of money working side hustles.
While killing time at an airport in February 2017, he read an article about how a man made $10,000 per month selling T-shirts online using print-on-demand services, which allow people to sell without owning a print shop. Waldron’s doubts washed away as the article laid out the business model.
The process seemed carefully documented and could be replicated on a smaller scale. “So that’s why I was willing to jump in,” he says.
Later that day, the 34-year-old founder of web-design company Studio JWAL and operator of a miniature golf course in Waynesboro, Virginia, signed up for Amazon’s print-on-demand service, Merch by Amazon. Once he was approved a few months later, he started creating designs.
Waldron says that last year he earned a couple of hundred dollars each month selling his products without dedicating much time to it. Here’s how he and others sell T-shirts online using print-on-demand services.
How Print on Demand Works
Print on demand is the process of printing custom designs on products such as T-shirts, hats and sweatshirts that are made to order instead of printed in bulk.
These services are appealing to side hustlers because most of the work is done by a third-party company. After setting up a profile, designers can start uploading their designs for review. This is when the designer can preview the shirt to see how it will look and also when the company examines the shirt for any possible trademark violations. After the shirt is approved, the designer creates a product description, sets the retail price and makes it available for purchase.
That’s it for the designer. No need to worry about managing inventory, shipping, returns or customer service. The third-party company handles it all.
This hands-off model is ideal for people like Terri Broussard Williams, 40, of Austin, Texas, founder of Movement Maker Tribe, a political and philanthropy blog. She uses print-on-demand services to create merch associated with her blog and public-speaking work. She always wanted to sell merch but had no idea how to go about it until learning of Spreadshirt. She opened her shop in August 2018 and now makes $100 per month from her designs.
One of the trade-offs with these services is that your profit margin will be slimmer because the company is doing a majority of the work.
Waldon says if he lists a T-shirt for $16.99 on Merch by Amazon, he earns $3.11 per shirt. The higher the retail listing price, the higher the cut for the designer. (Each print-on-demand service is different; to help you decide which service is best for you, we’ve highlighted below some of the pros and cons of different companies.)
Do I Need a Graphic-Design Background?
Even though it helps to have a background in graphic design, it is possible for people with no Adobe Photoshop experience to sell shirts. “I’ve tried, but I failed miserably,” Broussard Williams says of her attempt to learn Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
Instead, she outsources the design work to a graphic designer she’s worked with in the past, and they collaborate on shirts. Overall, she’s spent about $200 outsourcing her design work. If you don’t know any graphic designers, Waldron says, you can find freelancers on services such as Fiverr or Upwork.
But if you don’t want to outsource your designing, there are options. You can read articles and watch YouTube tutorials from experienced online T-shirt sellers to learn how to use creative suites such as Photoshop and Canva, a program that allows you to use royalty-free fonts to create images.
“So I think it’s doable for anyone,” Waldron says. “I feel like for me it’s definitely easier because I can just hop into Photoshop and kind of put an idea together. But there are other alternatives if you don’t have Photoshop experience.”
Tips for Success
Below are some tips for starting off in the print-on-demand T-shirt industry from people who have been successful.
Put Your Stuff Out There
Newbies trying print-on-demand for the first time need to be bold and brave, Broussard Williams says.
“You’re selling [a] product, and you’re putting it out for the whole world to see, so for some people that might be intimidating,” she says. “It might be easy to assume that no one wants to buy your message, but I’ve learned people do.”
If your designs are not selling right away, don’t fret. Stacy Caprio, 27, who lives in Chicago and runs the website her.ceo, started selling T-shirts on services such as Merch by Amazon, Redbubble, Printful and Printify in early 2017. She says it took over a month to earn her first sale.
“Test it for a month. Put some [designs] up and see if you get any sales because I think that’s the best way to see if that’s something you want to continue with,” she says.
Caprio has experience using multiple print-on-demand services to sell her designs. Although she no longer actively uploads new designs on these services, she still earns between $200 and $300 per month in residual income.
Find Your Niche
When coming up with designs, remember that the riches are in the niches. If you’re into a particular activity or hobby, then focus on that topic, Waldron says. In the beginning, he had a difficult time getting his golf-themed T-shirts noticed because that category was saturated with competition. One topic he noticed early on that didn’t have much competition was bowling. Waldron says his wife is a great bowler, so they brainstormed designs and phrases that appealed to bowling fans.
He says the more specific the niche, the less likely you’ll face competition from other designers. So find a topic and put your efforts into creating the best designs possible.
Have Great — Original — Designs
Waldron warns people to be careful when it comes to trying to create designs based on trending topics. You might have an excellent idea for a shirt that involves a celebrity or current event, but you might not be able to use it.
“It gets tricky because something’s probably been copyrighted, so the easiest ideas are just the ones that you come up with on your own, like purely out of the dark, and then you can go online and you can check the trademark database,” he says.
You can look up trademarks by going to the the United States Patent and Trademark Office Website and using the Trademark Electronic Search System. There you can search for certain terms and phrases to see if someone owns an active, or live, trademark or copyright. Also, a simple Google search will help to see if someone has already beat you to the punch and created a T-shirt with a similar idea.
Waldron says he learned early on that Merch by Amazon doesn’t play around when it comes to trademarks and copyrights. One of his designs was a vector image of a character that had some slight similarities to the superhero Iron Man holding a golf club iron. He says he tried to make him look not too “Iron Man-ish,” but the design didn’t pass. “They squashed that one pretty quick,” he says.
Don’t Neglect Your Product Descriptions
After your design has been created and approved, you don’t want to ignore your product descriptions and titles. “If you put all the energy into making a cool shirt and then you do one sentence for your description, you’re kind of wasting the little real estate that Amazon gives you,” Waldron says.
For example, let’s say Waldron is uploading a funny bowling T-shirt about the 10 pin, a pin that right-handed bowlers have trouble hitting. He’s not going to title it “10 Pin T-shirt.” He’s going to call it “Funny Bowling T-Shirt -10 Pin Design,” or something similar.
The goal is to think like a shopper and anticipate how they would search for your item if they didn’t know it existed, he says.
When writing the description, make sure to include part of your product title, such as the saying on the T-shirt, if there is one. He says, for example, “Are you looking for a great bowling gift for your family or friends? This ‘Living on a Spare’ T-shirt is the perfect gift, and sure to generate laughs at the bowling alley.”
Print-On-Demand Services to Consider
A couple of quick Google searches will reveal several companies offering print-on-demand services.
Each of these services has its own pros and cons regarding product quality, profit margins, audience size and speed of shipping.
Below is a list of some print-on-demand services, with details from people who have used them.
Merch by Amazon
Amazon’s print-on-demand service is the biggest player on the block, according to Caprio and Waldron. Caprio says she preferred using Merch by Amazon over other services because of Amazon’s massive built-in audience and its reliable product-delivery service.
One of the most significant hurdles is that you must go through an application process to sell on the platform. Caprio waited six months for approval. Waldron says he was approved in about two months and credits his web-design experience for giving him an edge.
Here’s where you can find out more about Merch by Amazon.
Printful
Printful features many high-quality T-shirts and items to put your designs on. The service has a profit calculator available so designers can see how to price products to obtain their desired profit margin.
Printify
Printify allows designers to save 20% on their costs with an optional premium membership for $29 per month. Caprio says it’s great if your demand is strong and people are buying your items often. Here is a breakdown of the pricing structure for Printify.
Spreadshirts
Spreadshirt has a wide variety of high-quality items and many customization options. Designers can put their images on short- and long-sleeve shirts, hoodies, mugs, phone cases and more. Buyers have the freedom to select their shirt and font colors. Broussard Williams says she typically earns between $2 and $3 per shirt.
Redbubble
Redbubble sells baby clothes, greeting cards, wall art and bags in addition to shirts. Caprio liked using Redbubble because it gave her the opportunity to put her designs on unique items such as onesies. Here is a breakdown of the base prices of the items available on Redbubble.
