Unpopular opinion, but:
I think Taika Waititi should direct the Goncharov reboot.

goncharov (20XX) reboot cast - core trio
(no don't run i promise these are really good)
OSCAR ISAAC as GONCHAROV
he has the range. saw someone casting him as andrey and that works too, but tell me you can't picture this man slowly unraveling under the chains of inevitable cyclical fate and outrageous fortune. goncharov's themes of sacrificing one's own self for power and security would be beautifully portrayed by an actor as versatile as isaac.
WINSTON DUKE as ANDREY DADDANO
imagine: andrey as not a skinny white twink but with the broader build, naturally distinguished bearing, and endless gaze of duke. picture the iconic clocktower scene, goncharov, visibly unraveling, with his shaking hands and unsteady gun - juxtaposed against andrey who stands perfectly still and unworried with the clock ticking behind him, lighting his cigarette.
GEMMA CHAN as KATYA MICHAILOV
i am most proud of this one you couldn't pay to convince me that this wouldn't absolutely fuck. chan's katya perfectly portraying goncharov's seemingly graceful and innocent wife, showing her teeth only at first in select scenes - the early poker scene comes to mind. the coolness of her gaze perfectly matching andrey's, further emphasizing the nature of them being narrative foils for each other. also who doesn't want to see gemma chan wearing fur and pearls and splattered with blood?
(okay that's all i got for now thanks for not running!! don't be racist in the notes or i'll bite you thankssss)

What do I want? Collin Farrell playing Goncharov or Mario in a live adaptation reboot of Goncharov.

The 2011 goncharov reboot was really weird, I don't get why they thought making it a gritty bond knockoff was a good idea

Guys we need to go on the offensive with this scooby doo rewrite stuff. literally every person on this hellsite has proven they could come up with a better scooby doo reboot (you are all literally so genius and talented, shoutouts to all the redesigners and rewriters out there, keep it up!) But I think we should really just Goncharov the hell out of it. just create the apex of scooby doo and pass it off as our own creation
honestly this could be our solution for many problems to come too
Forsake reality, Undergo Goncharovification

@mauvecardigans every once in awhile it's good and healthy to get the sheer indignant feeling out at cobra kai, I think it's like a purification process -- if there's one thing every fan I've seen on tumblr have in common, regardless of which characters we stan, it's a knowledge that the show has fucked with them in some way, and that fanfic and fanart and meta that incorporates original movie themes is fixing it
(and then we collectively clown-makeup our way through s6)
(clown hand in clown hand)

Considering all the recent buzz surrounding Goncharov I'm a bit worried about it getting rebooted or made into a cash grab sequel. I'm not the biggest fan of mafia movies, but there's something about the 1973 film that absolutely encapsulates my soul.
I don't know if it's the cinematography, the performances, the whole story with the heartaching time motif. I seriously stayed up all night after hearing Goncharov say "if you loved me you wouldn't have missed"
I really don't know how to feel on one hand a remake would get even more people interested in the original film, but it would feel weird to see anyone replace De Niro, Sophia Lauren, Harvey Keitel, or Cybill Shepherd.

Honestly! You get it! Katya did nothing wrong, she just did everything she could given her circumstances!
LITERALLYYYYY like what else could she have done. what else was there for her to DOOO like. you have this loving marriage with a man who you SEEEE is falling further and further into depravity and what choice do you have but to dirty your hands too. what else can you do to avoid being left behind?
like we SEE what happens to goncharov, to andrey, after ice pick joe dies, we see these tensions escalating and these stakes rising and despite it all you still love him, so leaving is just not in the cards. you have to take care of this SOMEHOW, both for your safety and also your livelihood like can we REALLY condemn katya. would any of us do otherwise? love leads to the deepest violence, which we also see paralelled with andrey and we all KNOW he isnt meant to be read as a villain so why did ever critic jump down katyas throat like just say you hate women 🙄
