One of my buddies asked me this week if I’d be willing to sell one of these pieces (unusual) at a fair price representative of the amount of time and skill it took to make them (unheard of!). My initial reaction was “hell no I made these for ME”; he eventually talked me into a commission, on the theory that if I made it for HIM from the start maybe it would be easier for me to convince myself to part with my work. TBH the only reason I agreed was that he’s up there on the like “top 3 lifetime best bros” list and it’s made me think hard about my motivations for making art in general, and why I have conflicted feelings about taking money for it even when an opportunity just drops in my lap.
For starters there’s the “fair price for labor” issue that most potential buyers are flat-out unwilling to accommodate (that arm took 30 minutes to sketch but 20-30 hours to create out of fabric, pegging a fair price at easily $500). But then there’s the “how much is this worth to gradientdescent specifically” or, phrased a different way, “how much would you have to pay for me to consent to you removing it from my living room without reporting a theft” and that number is… a lot higher. My gf has tried to convince me to apply for some local gallery shows and I’m like “I am 1) unqualified and 2) unwilling to take the chance that someone else might actually decide to buy it and take it away from me”.
Pretty much the only motivator that appeals to me is the chance that letting my art out into the world will give me the chance to meet other people who like the things that I like. But “I’m talking to you because you paid me $500” isn’t a relationship of equals, it’s customer relations management. And truly there are few things I’m LESS interested in doing with my spare time than that. I don’t want to “market” myself or “build a personal brand”, I just wanna hang out with people and swap tips for how to make weird eyeballs look nasty.

🌼👃🌼 thank youuuu
Flowers take probably the second second place right after the cats of pictures on my phone 😂 (which is 10 years old so no quality pics haha)

Please feel tagged everyone, i want to see some flowers :D but just for the sake i'm also tagging @omppupiiras @gradientdescent-does-it-all @safetofirst @drugsforaddicts @bisnes-socks
Flower power Friday
Thank you so much for tagging me @wilmonsfolklore 💜
I love this because I'm like a boomer always taking flower pics although I'm not really that good at it oops

I took this pic today
I'm tagging @alkalinetrios @skibasyndrome @gulliblelemon

The result of the reversed-trope prompt y’all voted in a while back: “Really nice guy who hates only you”.
Astarion can’t resist harassing Wyll. Wyll harasses him right back, as only a true gentleman can. Astarion may never recover from this series of crushing losses at the hands of Wyll’s unsurpassed mastery of the polite “fuck you”.

Little hiatus this week from the embroidery: my corporate overlords have generously deigned to grant me a week of free time to do with as I will. Therefore as I am no longer chained at the ankle to the Zoom machine all day, I’m out and about working on other things. If you’re interested, I’ll be over on the main blog @gradientdescent-does-it-all doing leatherworking, gardening, and staring at an empty word processor document waiting for it to spontaneously fill up.

Artificial Neural Networks Part-II
My new blog post is finally out! Tell me in the comment section, how do you like it. I would appreciate having a word with you. Cheers! #machinelearning #nanotechnology #neuralnetworks #ai #activationenergy #gradientdescent #neuron #costfunction
In the previous blog, we learned about how the networks learn, how we came upon computers with brains, and why are neural networks critical. We got this as machines learn via training data. For this post, we will determine the heart of neural networks which involves some fascinating and multi-variant functions. We will learn about gradient descent, backpropagation, and a bit about MATH. We will…
