i posted this on blue sky but haven't rly had the wherewithal to say anything anywhere else;

family death & illness tw

well, my Gramma finally passed away, early friday(10/27) morning. judging from the time my aunt checked on her last & how soon she found her, i think i woke up spontaneously at about the moment it happened…Mhothaigh mé spiorad nəkamehs ag imeacht.

90 yrs, still in her own home, & all of her daughters by her side by sundown.🍂

she went in her sleep - we were so lucky to have her in our lives this long, and to know she didn't suffer. she was lucid & her dementia mostly interfered with her speech, almost to the very end.

she still knew me by my current name. she remembered Pop was already gone. she was ready & so unafraid of death. she was always so at peace with it, honestly. truly, there is so much we have to be grateful for, having known her.

So it turns out that the smell I always associated with my gramma's house growing up was a gas leak from her stove. I'm at work, and one of the maids asked me if I smelled anything in one of the rooms they were cleaning, and it was like stepping back in time, only much more dangerous. The last guests left a burner open, and apparently so did my gramma, but nobody blew up so that makes it okay.
